After interviewing several people to install tile in the downstairs of my home I chose Avid Tile & Design. This company was hired because the owner stated he was an "expert" in tile work. He came across as competent and trustworthy.
I entrusted him with a key to my home and left on a short trip in an effort to be courteous and stay out of his way while the tile was being installed. I was under the impression that he would be installing the tile with another employee and supervising the work.
Before leaving on my trip I came home to find one of his employees in my home alone unsupervised. I called the owner and asked if he was the only person that had a key to my home? He assured me that he was. When I returned home from my trip I was greatly disappointed!!
The cutting powder from the tile was caked on my back patio, grout haze was left all over the tiles and not wiped clean, 2 gold necklaces were missing from the necklace tree in my upstairs bedroom (the tile was being installed downstairs there was no reason for anyone to be upstairs) AND the pattern in the tile was not followed!!
After changing the locks to my home, filing a police rpt and speaking with a detective, I then called the CSLB and an attorney. I was told I had to give the contractor a chance to "cure the defects in his work". I was very unhappy that I had to let this company back in my home. The contractor came back and used an electric saw and chisel to replace 12 of the tiles that were not installed correctly.
This experience turned into a nightmare! It was very stressful and the 2 gold necklaces were never recovered. I still have tiles that do not follow a pattern. I hope this review prevents another person from being naive. If I had to do it over again I never would have hired this company had I known the job was not going to be supervised and an employee was going to be left alone unsupervised in my home. I also learned that you NEVER give a contractor a key to your home!
When hiring contractors always be present and make sure the job is being supervised. I also paid this contractor in installments. I did not give him the balance of the invoice until the tiles were replaced. read more
