I grew up in New Britain and this was minutes away from me growing up. There are so many great flavors, but what's my favorite? The green one! Lemon lime! I love Avery's! There are so many other flavors to choose from like Blue Raspberry, Birch, Cream Soda, Fruit Punch, Grape and Pineapple....omg--does the fun stop?! There are over 35 flavors! Sherman F. Avery began making soda in the red barn on Corbin Avenue in the summer of 1904. Avery's quickly became known for its variety of flavors, especially the Cream, Birch Beer, Root Beer and Ginger Ale. Avery's is one of the oldest soda bottling companies in New England and their soda is still made in the same red barn on Corbin Avenue. Avery's continues to be a family run for the past 119 years- wow!!!

Avery Beverages is a craft soda and bottling company that opened in New Britain, Connecticut in 1904. It was founded by Sherman F. Avery. He started crafting sodas in a red barn on his father's poultry farm. Some of the flavors that he produced were Cream, Birch Beer, Root Beer, and Ginger Ale. Avery made deliveries to local homes and stores in a horse-drawn wagon. By 1914, he was able to purchase his first delivery truck. Nearly 120 years after its founding, Avery's Beverages is still in that old red barn and is still family-run. They are the oldest soda company in Connecticut. The flavor menu has now expanded to nearly 40 classic and diet flavors and five seltzers. All sodas are still crafted with real cane sugar in small batches, just like they were in 1904. Avery's frequently releases specialty flavors for holidays and special events. In recent years, they have also released a "Totally Gross" line of sodas with humorous names such as "Dog Drool" or "Zombie Brain-Juice". In 2023, they teamed up with New Britain-based Alvarium Beer Company to release a line of "Hard Hittin'" hard craft sodas. My family and I recently visited Avery's production barn and retail store while we were traveling through New Britain. Born and raised in the Greater New Haven area, I always enjoyed locally-made Foxon Park Sodas whenever I went out for pizza or had a summer cook-out. Avery Sodas were not seen often in my area, but I heard about them a lot from people in the New Britain area. When we walked into the retail store, I couldn't believe how many flavors they had available. They had all the classic old-fashioned flavor sodas, but also ones that I don't see often such as Pineapple, Lime Rickey, Korker, and Half & Half. My older son was entertained by an old pinball machine that they had in the shop. I had a few laughs to myself as I read the names of the "Totally Gross" sodas. I also enjoyed reading the names of sodas they had on display which were originally released in commemoration of political elections, such as "Trump Tonic" and "Hillary Hooch". We ended up taking a mixed case home. Along with Foxon Park and Hosmer Mountain, Avery Beverages is a fine producer of Connecticut's delicious old-fashioned sodas!

Have always enjoyed their unusual flavors and labels. Not widely distributed in CT (local New Britain plant plus Stew Leonards). Unusual, since a friend and I found them in a gas station / convenience store in California near the Nevada border a few years ago!!?!? I always like to support local businesses, and Avery's is local. The whole, entire operation is in a big, barn-like structure, circa early 1900's. One of the reasons for the trip was to buy some Putin Punch. 50 cents of every bottle purchased goes to the Ukrainian Red Cross. Bottle caps for Putin Punch are either blue or yellow, the colors of the Ukrainian flag. Good soda for a good cause.

"I am 32 flavors and then some" (Ani DiFranco) Avery has a lot more than 32 soda flavors. They have 54!! How about 24 classic, 8 diet, 6 specialty, 11 Totally Gross, and 5 seltzers. When you pull up to Avery's Beverages, one of the first things you'll see is a big red barn that's been there for well over 100 years. And if you had a time machine to propel you back to the Summer of 1904, you would see Sherman F. Avery inside that very barn, making his soda for the first time. He had a horse drawn wagon that delivered his sodas to businesses and homes in the area, until 1914, when he bought his first delivery truck. A lot has changed since the early 1900's, but Avery's sodas really haven't. They're still made inside that red barn, hand crafted in small batches and bottled in glass bottles. I visited their factory store and picked up twelve diet sodas for about a buck a bottle. The place is a hoot!! You'll see their bottling line, and cases of sodas piled up everywhere. A helpful young lady directed me to the corner of the warehouse where the diets were, and she filled up my cardboard six packs for me. I picked up 2 bottles each of Diet Orange, Cream, Cola, Lemon Line, Ginger Ale and Black Raspberry. The clear winner was the Cream Soda -it was excellent.

Another New Britain institution. They've been here since 1904. You can pick up a six pack (or a case) of cream soda, or choose birch beer, ginger ale, etc. They also have strawberry, black raspberry, and other more unusual flavors. Everything is bottled on-site in glass containers, and make sure you have a 'church key' to pop off the cap. Kids love the "totally gross" offerings like Monster Mucus and Toxic Slime. They're actually really tasty and made with cane sugar. A fun and interesting way to support local business!

Avery's Soda is absolutely iconic in Connecticut, and it's so great to report for good reason! They hand craft every bottle in their charming little brewery shack, which is not only interesting to watch but informative. The staff is friendly (and used to being watched), highly knowledgeable, and helpful when it comes to picking out the perfect flavor and mix for your needs. Would highly recommend Avery's for a signature soda mix! They can customize and create a soda and label for just about any occasion!

Still as great as it's always been, SAVE your bottle cases because it's definitely worth the work for keeping a few bucks. Grab a box and serve yourself with some of their old fashion and modern flavor combos!

Nothing fancy here ,just a Good ole rustic place that bottles Avery sodas on a cool old school belt . They let me walk right up to the production line and take pics . The guy that runs the register was very cool . Told us all about the soda flavors and showed us exactly where they were . Boxes and boxes were all around us. They sell them by the single, six pack ( around 6.00) or a case . You pick out your flavors yourself which was cool. Bottle caps were in-cased by the thousands . I took a picture of it for words on how cool it was doesn't help, lol.

This small red barn hides a gem of fun!

"This is the weirdest thing you've made me do" - my brother in law So....this was a very different experience. A LOT of fun but a little strange. So you can make and bottle your own sodas. While that doesn't sound weird/strange the place itself was. I'm pretty sure the FDA would shut it down but oh well...too much fun. You get to keep your three bottles you make and the apron. I would put a little more syrup in. I think the sodas taste a little seltzery and diet. (I bought a case of different flavors. Word of advice....don't wear flip flops! You'll be like a mouse on a glue trap in the mixing room. I highly recommend doing this at least once. It's truly a fun experience.

Found this place on roadside america website after staying overnight in MA due to snowstorm. on our way driving back we came for this soda factory tour and The NBA Hall of Fame. The NBA hall of fame is closed on Monday nd Tuesday and Avery's Beverage is closed on Mondays and tours are $11.50 per person and on Saturdays only which includes making three sodas and you keep the apron. Each of the soda is $1, and if you buy a case of six you get a discount. Case of six for $6 for the gross flavors and case of six for $5.10 for the other flavors. The sodas and flavors are very unique. There are over 40 different flavors. The gross flavors are inspired by Children says the tour guide. Its a small factory and can be self toured. Definitely a good place to check out.

Avery beverage guys New Britain ct. this soda these flavors and more are one of the best I tasted to date. See for urself and support.
