We had such a lovely time here. Owners Todd and Candy were very gracious hosts. The space is charming and has all the amenities you could ask for. Numerous sitting areas, porch, little gazebo; coffee, Keurig, and water always available. We stayed in Room #2, the ?Mary Kay room. There's a cozy reading nook which I utilized. We had a hot 90 degree day but inside there's central air, plus a window unit, a ceiling fan and additional tabletop fan if needed. Needless to say, we were totally comfortable. Our room also had a free-standing tub, which is unique to us. You may not like that part if you're claustrophobic, because you're totally enveloped in its graceful, pretty shower curtain... just an fyi. Definitely added to the charm, though. Also, if you're used to a king bed, like we are, this bed might feel a bit snug. Again, just fyi. The B&B is very conventionally located to town, just a few minutes walk. Make sure you bring your walking legs for the hills though ;) As with the whole area. Breakfasts were filling and delicious. Cookies and candies are always available, too. And again, Todd and Candy were very helpful and accommodating yet not intrusive, so it felt like your own home. Would definitely come back. Thank you! read more

The wife and I's first Bed & Breakfast experience. And it's what we expected from a bed and breakfast, comfy, cozy, and friendly. When we first stepped into Avery, it felt like we were intruding someone's home, we felt stiff... but once we met the DuBois, they welcomed us, and we became more relaxed. The DuBois', both wife and husband were friendly. The breakfast was perfect and satisfying and fun, the food provided us with the energy to explore Galena. And the one sitting allowed us to meet the other folks that were staying at the inn, the dinning room was intimate, allowing us to trade stories and ideas about how to spend the day in Galena. We stayed in Lydia Rebecca's room, it was cute, had a gas fireplace. We were hoping for a tub in the bathroom, but settled for the shower. We've been staying and judging our Bed and Breakfast stays against Avery ever since. Avery has a touch of everything we look for in a bed and breakfast, charming property, delicious breakfast and friendly innkeepers. read more

This is an awesome Inn, with even more awesome owners! Todd and Candy could not be more welcoming, kind, accommodating and helpful. My friend and I enjoyed two wonderful nights at The Avery, and are now making plans to return next fall. The room was sweet and inviting. Candy is an awesome cook and the meals were presented so elegantly. The entire experience was a 10+. You should go... I guarantee you will not be disappointed! Absolutely loved my first experience at a B&B. Todd and Candy were great hosts. The home was so comfortable, peaceful and welcoming. There is not a bad thing to say about this wonderful find. The bed was amazing and super comfortable. All the linens were fresh, new and clean. We were treated like family. The breakfast was amazing! More food than you could imagine and A+ delicious. We had to ask for the recipe and of course Candy was kind enough to share. It was cold and raining but that did not damper our visit but would love to go back and enjoy sitting out side on the porch or gazebo when it is a bit warmer. The room had an extra heater for comfort if needed. TV whit DVD player and plenty of movies to choose from. Too bad we spent both nights completing the puzzles they had in a common room. Mini fridge was available for wine or left over food. I would most definitely make a return visit to this great B&B...Thanks so much Todd and Candy for being so wonderful. My wife and I wanted a nice bed & breakfast in Galena to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. A previous BnB we had stayed at in Galena years ago was no longer in operation, so after an online search, we settled on the Avery Guest House. We were VERY pleased! Todd & Candy are wonderful hosts. (It's clear they love what they do!) The breakfast was unforgettable. And it was so convenient to just walk to downtown Galena for the house. When we make a return trip to Galena, without a doubt we'll be staying at Avery again! read more

I'm going to say what everyone else that stays here will. Todd & Candy are truly the best! We arrived and were greeted by Todd who took us on a tour of the house (mansion!) and gave us some history on the house and Galena. He showed us to our room, which was perfect in every way, and asked us what we needed. We asked for some ice and within 5 minutes we had ice in the upstairs sitting room. We took full advantage of the upstairs sitting room and the main sitting room, we are a social people but unfortunately we didn't meet any of the other guests until breakfast the following morning. We met Candy as we sat In the main sitting area and were left with her fantastically awesome lemon bars. We went to our room and watched the greatest showman on DVD. The room and bathroom was spotless (as was the entire house) and the bathroom had a hair dryer for my wife and extra soap if you needed! The bed was so comfortable and the temperature in the house was on point and we slept like a lot. The morning breakfast at 9 am was to die for. Candy and Todd went all out with fantastic food and conversation. My wife and I cannot wait to come back and spend another night here. Thank you guys for making our quick getaway amazing! read more

The love and care in every detail show in every aspect of this home. Small details such as the tv/DVD in the room, central air plus individual AC in each room (very appreciated during my heat wave stay) and the immediate proximity to town - forgot to mention the very reasonable prices-make this guest house my return choice for next Galena visit. read more

This was the first B&B my wife and I stayed in and we were hooked. Our first stay was our wedding night. Now we go back every year for our anniversary. The Innkeepers are super personable and share their stories with you over an amazing breakfast. They have a dessert set out in the afternoon with coffee and water! We stayed at Avery on Prospect Hill for Memorial Day weekend and we could not have asked for a nicer place to stay at! The owners are the sweetest people ever and are extremely helpful. The house is gorgeous and very peaceful and has a beautiful garden. They have anything you could ever need- movies, popcorn, coffee, magazines, food...The room we stayed in was very comfortable. The breakfast Ms Candy made was spectacular (parfait, blueberry and cream cheese French toast, hash browns and sausages). It was an overall great experience!
