Proprietor Mark, his Son Luke and Elaine make you feel welcome and well taken care of. We had cheese, crackers and wine waiting for us in our room. Home make chocolate chip cookies too! The breakfast of a muffin, fruit, crust less quiche and a potato casserole was delicious and filling. There is a nice comfortable sitting area where you can read, visit or play board games. The private garden out back is lovely too. The inn is an easy walk to downtown. Galena is full of beautiful historic homes and we enjoyed learning the history of Galena and the area from Mark. I highly recommend the Farmers Guest House when in Galena.

A perfect romantic getaway…read more The entire weekend my wife and I could not stop talking about how charming and relaxing our room was. Matthew, the Innkeeper, seems to have thought of everything when it comes to comfort and relaxation. Our brunch each morning was healthy, fresh, and gourmet prepared. There was complimentary wine and finger foods in the downstairs shared sitting area each late afternoon and evening. Matthew was always attentive, warm, and welcoming with any requests. We loved that we were steps away from the main shopping street of the town, and walking distance from historical sites to tour and the charming businesses of the town. We plan on returning to The Jail Hill Inn and becoming "repeat offenders" as we loved staying in our room so much this past weekend we still have so much of Galena to see.

The food - from the afternoon appetizer/cheese/wine tray to the incredible breakfast - was really delicious. And I could go on. If you're at all contemplating a stay in Galena, this is the place to go! It is romantic, quiet, nurturing, luxurious.

Our bathroom featured a claw-foot freestanding tub, which was fine for us but could be a challenge for older or mobility-challenged guests. The happy hour at 5:00 each evening offered wine and a simple cheese plate, which Jordana prepared. Breakfast each morning was a full 3-4 courses, which was really delicious and served promptly at 8:30. We enjoyed chatting with other guests at breakfast and learning about their adventures in Galena. Communication with the Inn was frequent and easy. Note that the former "Potting Shed" is now a Sauna space. The Inn is within about a 15-minute walking distance of downtown, and a 10-minute walk to Grant's home. Great stay, highly recommended.

We booked the massage and dinner package as well as renewed our vows in front of the mansion. I cannot say enough about the amazing experience we had during our time here. Paul was an amazing host! He puts in a lot of details into making the experience one to remember. We have never stayed at a bed-and-breakfast so we were completely surprised by how wonderful and elegant the mansion was. On Thursday when we arrived, we had our scheduled massage, followed by our ceremony, and a private dinner in the dining room. Paul even took some pictures of us and gifted us with a beautiful framed picture of me and my husband. On Friday morning, we met some wonderful guest during our breakfast, and headed out to downtown Galena. Our breakfast was an excellent and tasty homemade breakfast, so much so, that we were so excited about breakfast the next day. Although Paul is basically the face of a mansion, his wife and employee work just as hard to make it an overall beautiful experience. We will definitely be back! We know that we have other options, but we cannot say enough about this place and want to continue to support Paul like he supports and tends to his customers. The largest is called the Master Suite, and the others are named after the original owners daughters. We stayed in the "Eleanor" room, which is the smallest of the rooms. She told us the history of the house, how she became the ninth owner and also helped us find the only restaurant open on Christmas within a 30 mile radius. She then gave us a gift of local wine and a tiny Christmas ornament. So great! Another thing I appreciated about this B&B is when I was looking up places in Galena, I noticed a rather disturbing trend of a lot of places having beautiful buildings, but then were either ridiculously expensive or else inside things got really hokey. Like with in room jacuzzi tubs or everything Super Girly with pink and lace exploding everywhere. Thanks for keeping it simple & elegant, Hellman, we are excited to come back again.
