What an unexpected gem of a find in the middle of the redwoods!! My friend and I stopped by Avenue Cafe for a late lunch as we were driving along the Avenue of the Giants. Neither of us had super high expectations for this meal, but we really enjoyed our meal. It wasn't super crowded when we arrived on a Wed afternoon around 3 pm. The decor is pretty casual. I think I saw an outdoor patio as well, but it was too hot outside, so we sat inside where there was AC. The menu features a range of foods such as soups and salads, sandwiches & burgers, pasta, pizzas, and calzones. I was impressed by the variety. I got a meatball sub and got the soup of the day - minestrone - for $15.95. My friend got the chicken parmesan sub + onion rings for $17.95. I don't know if it's because we were hungry or what, but both of our subs tasted so good. The meatballs were tender and flavorful and I loved the bolognese sauce on top. My friend agreed his chicken sub was amazing too. The sides of minestrone soup and onion rings really hit the spot as well. I would love to come back and eat here again! Was really impressed by the food.

I came here as it was very close to my cabin and I'm very glad that I did. We ordered a supreme pizza which was absolutely delicious and filling. We also ordered their garlic fries , which had a bit too much garlic but tasteful overall. We added some beers to our order- which were also very tasty. Overall, I enjoyed this place and the service by our waitress. The views were great, the food was delicious and the experience was worth it. We will definitely come back again when we're in the area.

Great place to stop by after biding the avenue of the giants. Quick service. Ordered the French dip and sweet potato fries. Tasted good plenty if table and enjoy your food while listening to the rock music.

Great selection of food in a small town. Their sub and day of the soup was great! The service was quick and they were very helpful. The overall ambiance and food experience was amazing!

I forgot to take a picture but the gluten free pizza is amazing! Seems like they might make their own gluten free pizza dough? I got the flying pig but with grilled chicken instead of breaded and it was super good. We also got the Bigfoot burger (not on gluten free but the do have gluten free buns and bread) and I was told it was amazing. FYI none of the fries are gluten free, though. They're all coated in flour for crispiness. We also had cider, of course, and that was good. Very relaxed vibes. It was a beautiful evening so we sat on the patio which is where everyone else was and it was a great experience.

awesome spot off the 101 to grab dinner. we were staying in phillipsville so this place was quite convenient to that small town just over, which had food places that closed earlier in the evening. buffalo wings were pretty solid. bigfoot fries were so delicious, with pulled pork, cheese, green onion atop seasoned fries. the meat lasagna took us out. it was so big, idk why we ordered so much food but we ate the leftovers for brekkie. lasagna was probably the best thing, sooo well made with layers of deliciousness. corn chowder hard pass. we thought the server had a "humboldt" accent lol. we were asking about beers and she said people love the "blurberry" and we looked at eachother like "wat" and realized the beer is actually called "blurberry" hahah. it was so good, but hella strong. nice local fruit cider. would surely come back here when i'm in the area. it's nice to sit outside by the big trees. fun place that's bigfoot themed! lots of deco.

My friends and I stopped by Avenue Café for lunch after a morning of hiking and travel to Miranda, CA, from Sacramento. We were starving, and this spot hit the mark! The café is small and wasn't busy when we arrived. The service was very friendly, and the portions were much bigger than expected. I ordered the tortilla soup, garlic Parmesan chicken wings, and sweet potato fries. The tortilla soup was hot, flavorful, and perfect after a chilly hike. The sweet potato fries were also tasty. However, while the chicken wings were cooked well, the garlic Parmesan sauce wasn't appealing. Overall, a nice spot for a hearty and satisfying meal!

Along the Avenue of the Giants is this gem of a cafe with home made hamburger patties and seasoned to perfection fries. Stopped by here while on a visit with some friends from out of state and we were not disappointed. We still talk about how this was one of the best meals on our trip! The owner who was manning the bar and takeout counter was real friendly and down to earth and talked about the Sasquatch folklore that pervades the area which was interesting.

Great stop for travelers with pets!…read more We stopped at The Peg House on our way to the Avenue of the Giants, and we're so glad we did! This hidden gem sits just off Highway 101, so it's easy to find. All of the seating is outdoors, with plenty of shaded spots -- perfect for relaxing without baking in the sun. There's even a stage area for live music. We stopped by on a Monday evening, so no music that day, but the atmosphere was still wonderful and laid-back. When we went to order, we were greeted by incredibly friendly staff who immediately offered our dogs some treats (always an A+ in my book!). Their burger and sandwich menu had so many tempting options that it was hard to choose. I ended up with a burger topped with jalapeños, while my partner went for one with bacon. The burgers were amazing -- the meat was tender and juicy, practically melting in your mouth. The toppings complemented everything perfectly, and the bun tasted fresh and fluffy. I also really appreciated the coleslaw -- not overloaded with mayo like most. My partner loved his meal too. We've decided this will be a new tradition every time we're in the area! Pro tip: Don't skip the gift store right next to the eatery. Pick up a Train Wreck cookie, Rice Krispy treat, and a brownie -- they're all incredible. We loved them so much that we stopped again on our way home to stock up. You won't be disappointed!

We had the French onion soup, Brussel sprouts, and the Chicken Ceasar Schnitzel and devoured it all. Wrapped up our dinner with a few rounds of pinball, which was a blast. There is a great stage to the right with a see thru back room that had a pool table and a few arcade games. To the left is the bar and large indoor 70s style fireplace. We were camping 20 mins up the highway and I felt completely unprepared for this scene. Next time I will be ready with more glitter and cowboy boots. We were lead to the back room, which somehow looked like a 20s speakeasy, with its cool dark wallpaper, dark academia bookshelves, and gold glittered tables, which overlooked the redwood trees. It was rustic and chic and I questioned if I was dreaming at how cool this place was. I know it's weird but I even loved their tea tree smelling hand soap in the bathroom. The service was excellent and food was delicious. They only have a few menu items and are mostly vegetarian (LOVE!) but they source their ingredients from local farmers and you can taste it. The waiter/owner explained that they have rotating chefs so this night they had Armenian influenced dishes. Yes, you heard right, Armenian food, 'my God,' I thought, 'could this random place in the redwoods get any better!' Between everyone at the table we tried most of the dishes, the shrimp cocktail, the fried cheese roll, roasted purple cauliflower, and fattosh salad, everything was excellent and comparable to the foodie scene you would find in the bay area. After dinner we headed to the bar for a few drinks and talked with the lil Kim shirt wearing, badass bartender. The place was a little quiet that night, but she explained they have had some pretty popular events this summer and do line dancing once a month as well. The halls are decorated in bands that have once played here and biker rallies with big names like Alvin Bishop and George Thorogood. Absolutely shocked by this hidden gem in the redwoods. Who knew Phillipsville was the place to be, I wish I lived closer so I can visit every weekend. If I could give this place more than 5 stars I would and am looking forward to my next visit. I definitely think that it is worth the drive from the bay just to hang out at this place. Go now while you can so you can say you knew it when.

It was a little early for dinner (4:30ish) and aside from two women sitting together, we had the place to ourselves. The vibe is cool. Hardwood floors, huge vintage bar, nice lighting. We were greeted nicely by a server who said we could sit anywhere. He brought us menus and took my husbands drink order, a Manhattan. I hadn't really decided what I wanted yet so I asked for a few minutes. Once the server returned to the bar, he asked me to come let him know what I'd decided to drink because walking around to the tables was "hard". I politely shouted to him over at the bar that I'd like a glass of white wine. He brought my husband's manhattan and spilled nearly half of it on the floor and on our table. No apology or offer to wipe it up, just used his apron to dry his own hands. I asked what a particular sauce was on their steak dish to which he replied, "you know, I'm not even sure". Since he didn't offer to find out, I googled it instead. My husband decided on their fried chicken sandwich and I went with the smash burger. The food was really great. My husband said his chicken sandwich was one of the best he's had. Perfectly fried and seasoned batter, good level of spice. My burger was cooked just like a smash burger should be and the fries were delicious. Despite the strange service (though there was another older lady who was very sweet), we liked the vibe of the place and really thought the food was noteworthy.
