Our family visited the Eureka area this week, and on our drive back home, we decided to follow the Avenue of the Giants. If you have the time and you are in the area, I would not skip it. It's amazing! While we were going through, we decided to stop for lunch and stopped in at the Avenue Cafe. What a great experience! The food was great and the staff made us feel welcomed. When we arrived, we walked in the front door and found it packed. So packed, in fact, that we had to eat at their outside tables. We chose the fully outside table (versus under the cover) and found that it was a mistake...when it started raining on us. Trisha didn't even mind that we resat ourselves in the covered area. We will definitely stop there again even when we don't drive the Ave itself...the food and service was that good! read more

Food was ok. The service wasn't great- our waitress wasn't super friendly... but also it was obvious she was the only one working and the place was full, inside and out. We had a pretty big party too. The food all needed salt, in our opinion. Our favorite was the focaccia cheese bread. read more

A clerk at a gift shop in Redcrest suggested this place for a bite to eat so we stopped here to get something to-go. I felt like I needed to eat more greens so opted for the Greek salad. They were out of artichokes but gave us extra Kalamata olives. As I was waiting for my salad, I kinda wished I had gotten a pizza (they looked great! And you could see them being prepared right in front of you) but again, I could use the greens instead of more carbs and cheese so I waited until they brought my order. The interior is on the smaller side but there were also some tables outside. Definitely a place for both tourists and locals as the employees seemed to know a lot of the regulars by name. I ate my salad on the road and it was precisely what my body needed. Light and refreshing and the dressing and olives added a nice zest to the overall flavor. A full size portion was about $18, which is on the pricier side in my opinion but it tasted delicious and I bet the pizzas taste good too. If you find yourself in this area and in need of a bite to eat, definitely stop! read more

What an unexpected gem of a find in the middle of the redwoods!! My friend and I stopped by Avenue Cafe for a late lunch as we were driving along the Avenue of the Giants. Neither of us had super high expectations for this meal, but we really enjoyed our meal. It wasn't super crowded when we arrived on a Wed afternoon around 3 pm. The decor is pretty casual. I think I saw an outdoor patio as well, but it was too hot outside, so we sat inside where there was AC. The menu features a range of foods such as soups and salads, sandwiches & burgers, pasta, pizzas, and calzones. I was impressed by the variety. I got a meatball sub and got the soup of the day - minestrone - for $15.95. My friend got the chicken parmesan sub + onion rings for $17.95. I don't know if it's because we were hungry or what, but both of our subs tasted so good. The meatballs were tender and flavorful and I loved the bolognese sauce on top. My friend agreed his chicken sub was amazing too. The sides of minestrone soup and onion rings really hit the spot as well. I would love to come back and eat here again! I came here as it was very close to my cabin and I'm very glad that I did. We ordered a supreme pizza which was absolutely delicious and filling. We also ordered their garlic fries , which had a bit too much garlic but tasteful overall. We added some beers to our order- which were also very tasty. Overall, I enjoyed this place and the service by our waitress. The views were great, the food was delicious and the experience was worth it. I overheard someone in the gift shop saying how good the pizza was, so my family checked it out. It was very good, fed 5 easily. They have a good selection of items on the menu, dessert and outdoor seating. My family had a very peculiar experience here but nothing involving the restaurant it looked like they had one sever and she was being overworked. I'd eat here again read more

Great place to stop by after biding the avenue of the giants. Quick service. Ordered the French dip and sweet potato fries. Tasted good plenty if table and enjoy your food while listening to the rock music. read more

Rather standard fare but for the remote location OK. Staff are nice. Love the patio which makes you enjoy the trees across the street.

I forgot to take a picture but the gluten free pizza is amazing! Seems like they might make their own gluten free pizza dough? I got the flying pig but with grilled chicken instead of breaded and it was super good. We also got the Bigfoot burger (not on gluten free but the do have gluten free buns and bread) and I was told it was amazing. FYI none of the fries are gluten free, though. They're all coated in flour for crispiness. We also had cider, of course, and that was good. Very relaxed vibes. It was a beautiful evening so we sat on the patio which is where everyone else was and it was a great experience. read more

awesome spot off the 101 to grab dinner. we were staying in phillipsville so this place was quite convenient to that small town just over, which had food places that closed earlier in the evening. buffalo wings were pretty solid. bigfoot fries were so delicious, with pulled pork, cheese, green onion atop seasoned fries. the meat lasagna took us out. it was so big, idk why we ordered so much food but we ate the leftovers for brekkie. lasagna was probably the best thing, sooo well made with layers of deliciousness. corn chowder hard pass. we thought the server had a "humboldt" accent lol. we were asking about beers and she said people love the "blurberry" and we looked at eachother like "wat" and realized the beer is actually called "blurberry" hahah. it was so good, but hella strong. nice local fruit cider. would surely come back here when i'm in the area. it's nice to sit outside by the big trees. fun place that's bigfoot themed! lots of deco. read more

This is top notch NY-Style Italian home cooking. The sauce, breads, pasta, heros, are amazing. The focaccia bread is like an amazing pizza, loaded with cheese, perfectly cooked, a touch of rosemary. Chicken strips, salad and fries were awesome! They make their own ranch dressing. Now for the negatives: Their spinach ricotta manicotti was missing ricotta. It should be called 'creamed spinach'. It was supposed to come with garlic bread and we didn't get ours. We called our order as take- out and they gave us 20 mins to pick it up. We arrived and waited 30 more minutes. My friends and I stopped by Avenue Café for lunch after a morning of hiking and travel to Miranda, CA, from Sacramento. We were starving, and this spot hit the mark! The café is small and wasn't busy when we arrived. The service was very friendly, and the portions were much bigger than expected. I ordered the tortilla soup, garlic Parmesan chicken wings, and sweet potato fries. The tortilla soup was hot, flavorful, and perfect after a chilly hike. The sweet potato fries were also tasty. Along the Avenue of the Giants is this gem of a cafe with home made hamburger patties and seasoned to perfection fries. Stopped by here while on a visit with some friends from out of state and we were not disappointed. We still talk about how this was one of the best meals on our trip! The owner who was manning the bar and takeout counter was real friendly and down to earth and talked about the Sasquatch folklore that pervades the area which was interesting. read more

The Avenue Cafe is an old-fashioned diner / burger joint / pizza place. It's clearly the most pouplar place in the small town of Miranda, and it gets busy and crowded around mealtimes, especially in tourist season. It's worth the wait! The service is friendly, and the food is great! I was once seated at the counter while the owner was manning the pizza oven because his cook had called in sick. Watching him making pizzas and calzones, popping them in the oven, and pulling them out and delivering them to tables was like a crazy dance, and all the while he was talking to people and making jokes. And yeah, the calzone I ordered was amazing! When you're on the Avenue of the Giants, make it a point to stop by the Avenue Cafe. read more

Located along the Avenue of the Giants. I wasn't expecting much so this place actually over delivered. Good customer service and the food came out in a timely matter. Quirky cafe along the Avenue of the Giants. We took advantage of their outdoor seating to take in the views and smell of the redwoods. We were both torn between two dishes, the Bigfoot Fries and their special of the day which was a pesto chicken sandwich. Definitely should have both got the fries. The pork was perfectly cooked and flavorful, they didn't skimp on the toppings at all. And the portion was huge. The sandwich was nothing special, the meat was a bit chewy and it could have used a lot more pesto. We both got Shirley Temples as well, the cherrys were huge! I'm assuming it was some type of maraschino cherry, but tasted so much better. I usually don't like them, but I had to take a bite of this huge thing and ended up eating the whole thing. Wow! Best Stromboli calzone I've ever had. Wonderful light, flaky crust, yummy cheese and meat/veggie filling and delicious marinara to go with it. We also ordered the garden salad, it was huge and easy to split. Everything was fresh and delicious. We would definitely give this one a 10! read more

Pizza was excellent! Their crust is so light and airy, with a nice chew and slight crunch. We ordered the Azteca and the topping combo really worked. Their large caesar salad was enough for 3 people to share as a starter. We'll definitely make this a regular stop when we're driving up the 101. During our recent trip to see the Redwood Forest, we were delighted to discover the Avenue Cafe! They make a fabulous vegan calzone and a really good veggie burger. You can also get plant-based cheese on any pizza. They make delicious smoothies and wonderful fresh salads too. The service is friendly, and the outdoor patio has a fun, relaxed vibe. We went back several times during our stay at Hidden Springs Campground. And we will certainly go back again next time we make the cross-country trip from New York! read more

We stopped in here probably like most on our Redwood excursions and it did NOT disappoint. My husband had a calzone which was filled with all sorts of yumness, he mentioned to the waitress red sauce gives him heartburn, she recommended their garlic sauce, he said it was to die for. I got the lasagna, it was hands down the BEST LASAGNA I have EVER HAD! I am ready to drive 4 hours back to get some more! Clean, quaint and so good. Definitely did not disappoint and will be on our list of places to visit when we do our annual Redwoods tour. This place also got us to drive the Avenue of the Giants route which was spectacular all in itself. read more
