30th Avenue is filled with Greek Cafes that are filled with people at all hours of the night. Flo, Athens, Grand, and Avenue are the many draws to this busy street. All the cafe's offer Greek food, coffee, and liquor that draws all the scene and young kids to the area. For once I would like to go to a resturant where the food is the focus rather than the image of the place. Avenue Cafe is not a place to eat a meal at. They have tables but most are busy. There is a couch area in the back (where I sat) that is comfortable and is filled with iKea design elements. My girlfriend and I stopped in for a quick bite and ordered a couple of sandwiches. They are served with french fries and a house salad. The fries are reheated from a freezer bag, the house salad is a couple of pieces of lettuce, tomato with some feta on top, and the sandwich was a wrap where the burned elements of the bread over powered the taste of the sandwich itself. It was pretty pitiful. The menu is filled with traditional appetizers, deserts, waffles, and other such things. But if the rest of the food tastes like the sandwiches (which are not hard to mess up), then I would avoid it. If you like the young astoria scene, if you like drinking and coffee, and if you like sitting around laughing at how the people look around you, head to Avenue Cafe. Just avoid the food. read more

Very disappointed with Avenue Cafe owners and management......INTEGRITY is an ESSENTIAL element to any business.. I have been a customer for many years with the old and now the new Avenue Cafe ..A recent experience with their management tells me they are missing INTEGRITY... Please take this with a grain of salt...it could have just been an off day for this place. I had a drink here this past Friday and while the physical place was nicely decorated and conveniently located with other bars in Astoria, my friend and I moved on after only one drink. The drink prices were a little higher than I expected for Queens...but I guess if you're used to Manhattan prices, it was quite normal. The music was loud and techno heavy, no variety so that was a little bit of a minus. Now the bad part was...it was hot, so the sides were open and we were situated in the inside half, but there were so many smokers that we may as well have been smoking ourselves...it was very unpleasant and while I would try this place again, I would definitely either sit at the bar, or deep inside this cafe. Hope this is helpful to those visiting or living in Queens. read more

I'm a big fan of Nutella and these guys aren't afraid to smother their crepes in it. Their other food is great. Try the Avenue Pizza! All their drinks are reasonably priced as well and not watered down. I've taken my friends here quite a few times and they always feel underdressed. There's no dress code here, but the place is beautifully designed. They have TVs throughout. When there's a big game on, Avenue is fun! Outdoor seating let's you enjoy the weather and your food/drinks at the same time. This place does, however, get pretty loud. The background lounge music is meant to drown out the noise from other tables, but sometimes can be a bit much. Only when you sit inside though. read more

Recently visited Avenue cafe with a colleague of mine on a Friday afternoon. After having walked Steinway street on a hot summer day, we were ready for some cold beverage. We were greeted by a lovely hostess and an equally beautiful & friendly waitress took out order. We sat outside and ate our meal with the locals. Granted that they took a little while to bring our food -- it was worth the wait. We enjoyed talking to the staff and service was great for us! The food - right on par! The service could have been faster -- but it gave us time to enjoy our appetizers! The ambiance was magnifique! I felt like I was hanging out with the locals. Price: YOU GET MY YOU PAY FOR! For me, the quality was excellent and I am always down to spend money on good food. Great place for a quick meal and catching up on an old friend....perfect for Europeans and trendy groups! My place to go to when I am around Steinway St...bravo! My favorite: mango puree read more

Horrible service! Servers don't check on you, 30mins to get your check, servers talk to customers like its their home here. Other places nearby treat their customers 10 times better! read more

The only reason this place is getting two stars and not one is because the food was really, really good. Our waitress did not seem interested in serving us at all. Aparently she had something better to do than HER JOB! Every time my boyfriend and I walk past Avenue Cafe he always wants to look at the menu, but then the flashbacks start . So I drag him up the street to Grand Cafe. ....That is all. read more

I came here for lunch with my friend. We were seated quickly. You have the option to sit outside when the weather is nice out .I had a guacamole burger with fries. The burger was so juicy and tasty, and the creaminess of the guacamole just added greatness. We also had pita bread w/guac. This place just makes awesome guacamole period! For dessert I had a very berry crepes. It came with blue berries, strawberries, and let's not forget the nutella. I was on heaven! read more

I wish there was a zero stars option. Called the night before to make reservations for 14 for Mother's Day brunch. When we go there they seated another group at my reserved table....wait thats not the worse part. When I spoke to the hostess who wore a tacky hot pink pant suit she said she allegedly wasn't told of our reservation. We still wanted to eat there and said we would sit on the other section not in a booth but NOT ONE SINGLE EMPLOYEE came to set up our table or make us comfortable, to make matters even worse, the tacky hostess sent a group of men to sit right next to us where we were our group was to sit!!!!!!!!!!! We got up and left right away. We usually go here for brunch but the service is terrible!!!! read more

Avenue, avenue, avenue. Used to be my favorite place on 30th ave, and then something happened. The service there went down the drain. All waiters care about is chit catting with each other or flirting with customers. The food is usually good, but takes so long to get to you that by then everything is cold. I still love the fact that you can smoke in both outdoors sections, and the coffee is very good, especially the greek frappe. I will give this place 3 stars and try going back there here and there, hoping it will get back the good qualities it used to have. read more

The best place in Astoria, best service, delicious food, great music and the best owner ,love u guys

Ordered delivery from them. Eggs arrived stone cold, and no syrup or anything given to us for our waffles/pancakes. They also used to substitute strawberries for raspberries for me in their Romeo and Juliet crepe, as I don't like strawberries. All of a sudden, one day, they decide to stop without telling me. No call, nothing. Just a "Surprise! There's strawberries in this!" Won't be ordering from these guys ever again. read more

Having eaten here for brunch this past Sunday, I think we went wrong with actual breakfast items. Everyone else seemed to be ordering mainly coffee, drinks and salads. The sausage had an odd taste that we couldn't place. The steak and eggs consisted of flank steak, which was tough and under-seasoned, so we sent it back. I asked for my eggs scrambled hard. In my mind, that meant no runny bits; in the chef's mind, it meant burned bits and lots of crust. A dish that came with bacon only came with two strips, and most of the fat wasn't rendered. The server was nice, but not that attentive. The chairs look like they've seen better days. I bet this place looks stunning at night, though. On the plus side, we enjoyed the coffee frappe, waffles and potatoes. read more

If you like your food with a side of secondhand smoke, then make sure to check out Avenue. Lots of smokers at the sidewalk tables -- so many that the stench is inescapable even outside. Not to mention rude staff and bland food. Never again. read more

Had a nice time here. I had the crepes which were pretty good (raspberries and bananas with nutella mmm) and the coffee was decent. I liked the layout and the music was good as well, but our waiter was bitchy and didn't even acknowledge us till it was time to pay the check. Service isn't that great which is probably why their ratings are low, and they don't even take credit/debit why ? read more

Nice neighborhood bar/restaurant. Very nice food and trendy environment. Staff are nice but a little poor on the customer attention but nice people all the same. Came on Sunday afternoon with parents in law, only downfall was the music was THUMPING LOUD! So loud we could not hear each other at the table. If it was at half its volume then it would be a 5* review. Easy on the music volume and you have yourself a lovely place to spend a Sunday afternoon lunch and cocktails. We had to leave after the drinks as it was too uncomfortable! read more

Was there tonight and the newly renovated place (since I have been there) is amazing. Didn't have food this time around, just drinks but service was great. I totally understand now why the stars for this place is 3 stars. How embarrassing for a space with a fantastic location and OK food. It's in competition with grand and flo that are the big cafes on 30th avenue. - it's great because you can sit outside but seriously, Avenue, get your Customer Service together. I sat in the corner next to the bar in between the in door and outdoor space for 20 minutes waiting for someone to come to me. I eventually gave up and walked to the bar to order when I should have just walked out. But I figure let me give it a chance. A skinny Greek waitress with too much caked on face makeup that doesn't blend to her skin and pink/purplish lips (I'll refer to her that way not because I'm a "hater" but because she didn't introduce herself and didn't even look at me so I don't know how else to identify her; albeit, embarrassing for her) finally arrived and was impersonal. She didn't apologize nor did she ask how she could accommodate the issue. Once I told her I ordered from the bar she walked away! Eventually she came back but never asked me if I needed anything else. She asked "how's everything?" -- The same server didn't come back a third time to check on me. Someone else came by and I asked for the check. As a business owner of 3 restaurants in Brooklyn and Manhattan, it is clear this place makes its money on convenience and location rather than customer service. This place needs to do a better job interviewing staff and making people feel welcome. This space has so much potential. They'll continue to have 2-3 stars until service gets better. 2 stars because the bar was nice and so was the busser. read more

I wasn't a fan of this place. The sangria I ordered was good though. Strong and had a nice flavor. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich on chiabatta bread. The chicken was overcooked, the sandwich was dry. The ratio of bread to everything else was too much. I had to trim the bread off. It came with Swiss cheese, lettuce & tomato, but no type of sauce. Too dry & the bread was hard. It also came with a side of fries, I didn't know that because the menu didn't specify so I wasn't able to ask if there were other options. The fries weren't crispy. They were limp and soggy. Our waitress came to check on us when we first started eating but then never returned to ask if we wanted another drink. Our glasses of water were replenished often by a busboy. The outside seating is nice except for the fact that ppl choose to smoke their cigarettes way too close to where everyone else is dining. There should be some type of rule about that. read more

Friendly, attentive service. Trendy yet comfortable decor. Music is a bit weird- euro house is probably how you'd describe it. Some nights they have a DJ, which actually is rather good and not annoying as one would presume. As for the food, their grilled chicken wrap is delicious; the chicken is grilled perfectly without being dry, the pita for the wrap is warm and fluffy. The accompanying Greek yogurt sauce is the perfect addition. I would pass on the seafood salad containing shrimp, salmon, and octopus. It's quite bland and lacking in substance. The salmon had little to no seasoning- the shrimp were however great. For $16 I would expect a better salad though. A while back I ordered a salmon with strawberries salad from here, which I loved. Unfortunately I don't see it on their current menu, which surprised the waitress as well when I asked if they still served it. Their frappes and cappuccinos are good. I never tried it, but their crepes look delicious The crowd is a young, trendy good looking group of people. I'd frequent this place again, especially in the summertime with their outdoor seating. read more

Introduction: We went on a Tuesday night and this place looked reasonable. It was busy and had a lot of out door seating. We decided to hit this spot instead of Grand Cafe, poor decision on our part. The Good: The wine is cheap by the bottle. $20 to $25 for a bottle so this would be a decent spot to start off a Friday or Saturday night with a group of friends. The Bad: Appetizer: Mozzarella and Tomato with Balsamic - Poor execution. The mozzarella was generic and not even a quality you find at Citarella or Whole Foods. The tomatoes were not very fresh either. Main Course: Vegetarian Crepe (Tomato, Mushroom, Black Olive, Cheese) - No other way to describe this other than "not very good." Greek Burger (Pita Pocket, Feta Cheese, Hamburger) - My burger was done correctly and was actually pretty tasty. I would eat the hamburger again. Summary: The service was terrible. I asked for a water refill and the guy took the glass to never return. The food was served and we never saw the waiter again until we flagged him down for the check. We would have liked more wine or to take a look at the tea/coffee/desert list but it was impossible to get the guys attention and after waiting forever we decided to just leave. If the service would have been at least average the restaurant would have scored 2/5 for their cheap wine and edible burgers but the lack of service drove the score down. And just an FYI to any potential diners they take cash only. Oh and does EVERYONE in Astoria smoke? Sitting outside I swear I must have smoked a pack myself. read more

I had never been to Astoria and a friend of mine familiar with the area recommended this spot to start the night. Very nice place in terms ambiance. Inside it's lit like a fancy lounge and they have plenty of outdoor seating. Staff was nice and attentive. My friend suggested the Avenue Club, which was great. The fries seem like they are freshly cut and made and go great with their chipotle sauce. I figured I might as well order the Avenue X cocktail while I'm at it, continuing my trend of ordering items on the menu named after the establishment. Wasn't too big a fan of it, too sweet for my taste. Luckily, I was able to wash it down with shot of Ouzo and Avenue water after that. read more

I use to love coming here, alone or with friends, (yes, I enjoy my own company). I use to order the Avenue Salad, yum, But I went their recently, and they changed it :( What a sad day. I use to rave about this salad like crazy. It was mixed greens with cranberries, honey roasted walnuts, I hold on the onions and bacon bites, seasoned with balsamic vinegar and pita bread served with grilled chicken. Yum yum yum... But Why, WHY change it! Ugh :-/ I need to find a new salad. (I hope the manager reads this so they can at least consider changing back the to the Original Avenue Salad) Anyway, besides my sorrow, that day I had the Quesadilla, it was pretty good :) read more

A great place to grab a bite and enjoy the atmosphere. This place has great outdoor seating and a very unique indoor decor. The back of the restaurant features trendy leather couches and a large 50 inch LCD TV for viewing. I ordered the Cubano Panini with an coffee float. The Cuban sandwich was fresh and the bread was well seasoned. In addition to this, the fries were also seasoned with sea salt and herb seasonings. The waiter was also very helpful in recommending my entree. My only gripe was that the table was not cleaned very well prior to arriving and was quite noticeable. There also was an issue with noise coming from outside due to the area. That aside, my experience at Avenue Cafe was very enjoyable. read more

This is my second time coming to this place and I felt the same way I did the first time around....it's nothing to brag about. For starters, we sat indoors because we thought it would have been warmer outside but I think they forgot to put the AC on that day. My friend is NEVER warm and when she's complaining I know there's a problem. I'm always warm so it wouldn't be far to scold them just on that. The service was mediocre. The servers could have a little more enthusiasm and also come to check on us once and a while. In the end, when I want to get up to bring the check to the front myself, it means I've waited for you to come back way too long. Do servers care about tips these days?! The food... *Chicken Greek salad mixed with olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, grilled chicken, and green peppers. I was happy with it, large enough to split for two. Dressing was a little more on the oily side but it was good overall. I believe it cost us approximately $16. *Steak and cheese on a pita bread was good as well. Also filling, full of cheese and the steak was tender. It's also a nice dish to split. The fries were unimpressive. They were bland and thinly sliced. The dessert... Belgian Waffles with drizzled Nutella. It's an okay substitute for crepes, which I prefer 100%. The reason we had to go with this as a finish is because their crepes are dull and empty. I like to go to Astoria primarily for the delicious crepes that I haven't been able to find in Westchester County as of yet. So please do yourself a favor, and pass on the crepes at this location. Its okay...nothing to brag about. Trendy looking but the vibe doesn't match up. read more

I've only been here once and will be back. At first the service was quick, we were seated received our menus, water and orders were taken promptly. The service was friendly and the food was delicious! The busser continuously filled our waters when needed and took the plates when we were finished, afterwards though, it took about 20 minutes to get someone's attention for the check, the waitress who brought it to is was even friendlier than our first. Great food, low prices and good service, one star deduction was for the long wait after our meal. read more

Do not eat here! Drinks are ok though. We came for brunch and it was disgusting, which surprised me because it's always busy and from the sidewalk the food looks pretty decent. The sausage I had I could not even try to eat (sick raw flavor and dry at the same time/wanted to throw up), the "mixed fruit" was really just apples... I could go on but I wont, overall: CONS: food, DO NOT eat here its a total waste of money (go to Shady Lady a block down much better). PROS: service is decent, nice outdoor seating with umbrellas, and the frappes/drinks are good. read more

Watery, overpriced drinks. OK customer service. Not friendly hostess. Won't come back again.

I'm only giving this place two stars cuz the food was good but everything else was terrible. The waitress we got was terrible and service in general was terrible. We had 5 in a group and one got the wrong meal and one didn't get a meal at all. The three of us who got our meals had to then wait an hour till we all had our meals. Then when the check came they added on the wrong meal there along with the corrected one. The waitress also never checked in on us and we never even got water refills. Terrible experience honestly. read more

The food is typical American style. The service was a little scattered. Seemed like the wait staff was a bit confused or there was a lack of communication. We started off with one waiter and in the middle of taking our order this waitress comes and says this was her table and had to retake all our orders. A little silly. Then there was confusion as to what we actually ordered and the food that was brought. Standard food. Not bad but nothing to write home about. Took a while for us to get our check but it was fine for a quick bite otherwise. read more

I love this place! Not sure why others are giving Avenue 3 stars because my friend threw her birthday party here last night and everything was PERFECT! The hostess was really sweet and showed us to the bar while the waiters were setting up our table all the way in the back for 14 people. Everyone came at different times and our waitress and waiter were friendly, patient, and accommodating- they didn't rush us to order food or drinks. When we were ready to order, the drinks were prepared really fast, really strong, and really delicious! I ordered the swimming pool (vodka, rum, curacao, coconut, pineapple) and my friends ordered frozen margaritas and bellinis- all the drinks were well made! The food was good as well but the chicken skewers need more seasoning. I am impressed by the service here; our waiter and waitress got a 20% automatic gratuity on top of our $470 tab but we left them extra because they went above and beyond for my friend's birthday party! Thank you Avenue Cafe! We will definitely be back soon! Atmosphere- 5 stars Service- 5 stars Drinks- 5 starts Food- 4 stars Price- 5 stars read more
