This is a small and unassuming shop next to Cal State Dominguez Hills. The sign was partially covered with a tacos sign. I can't speak to the tacos sold at a place that does drinks as I haven't tried them, but I can say the following: Ambiance (3/5): Small but cute, they don't skimp on AC even as it's a sunny little shop. Great for studying if you're able to nab a seat; they have three tables that seat 4 (maybe 5 if you bunch up on the bench). The natural lighting makes it pretty nice to so some work in there. They have an extension cord with multiple outlets tucked in the corner under the corner table. Service (4/5): Server was friendly and quick. I'm glad he asked if regular milk was okay because it reminded me that it's not for my husband. It's a small thing but it's appreciated! I also loved the little surprise of getting some extra smoothie in a small cup, perfect for my daughter. Why can't other shops be like this? Appreciate it! Drink (4/5): The strawberry banana smoothies tasted fresh. Real fruit bits and not overly sweet or artificial tasting. My husband and I both noted that it had great flavor. My only gripe was that it was still a bit icy; it was hard at times sucking the smoothie out of the boba straw we used. If it were blended fully and smoothly, I would say it would be near perfect. For my very 1st review as an official Yelp Elite All-Star (which I extremely earned by doing 31 reviews in 1 month last month!!!), I choose to do my 1st February, 2026 review on this gem of an Asian-owned business in the heart of Carson, California: Avalon Cafe & Boba! My very 1st taste of this place was thanks to my wifey for bringing home their Chicken Pesto Sandwich; which was the thing that got me HOOKED and wanting to try more of their stuff! Everything from its texture balanced out with the juiciness of the grilled chicken, toasty grilled bread, their seasonings and all around flavor just straight up HITTTT! For $10.75, it's honestly not a bad sandwich and I put it up against any other delis around Southern California because it is that damn good, IMO. Now...originally, we wanted to try another spot near this place, BUT there was a line and we didn't want to wait, SO ....we ended up going to Avalon Cafe & Boba instead. It was meant to be because I wanted to honestly try their other foods as well as their drinks. I believe my wifey got the Peachy Like Me with lychee if I'm not mistaken? while I got their regular iced Thai Tea. Her drink was very refreshing and my drink was great because it wasn't watered down with too much ice like other Thai Tea spots. Food-wise... Like I stated... I wanted to try their other stuff, so I ended up getting their super proteined-up Breakfast Croissant! I told the owner to just load me up with that ham, cheese, bacon and sausage, so he did!!! LOVED IT! Tastes way better in gourmet quality compared to donut shops. Hard to fully explain, but you have to just try it for yourself. I also wanted to try their Pastrami Melt and damn.... Bruhhhhh... compared to other famous delis out there, THIS was just amazing because you got that crunch from their toasted/grilled bread, along with their specially seasoned pastrami with all their fixins! It's not even oily or too drippy! Nothing but perfect balance and such a gourmet/homely flavor compared to other pastrami delis!!! On the side, I had some of their seasoned tater tots, but the sandwiches stole the show for me. All in all, this little place was just so warm and welcoming all around literally out of nowhere. It was our jump-off, but ended up being such a hero/star/main eventer in our hearts and tummies that day of rejected hunger due to the other spot nearby being too trendy and popular to where we couldn't partake in that other journey; but hey... Today I went to Avalon Café and Boba because they had a sign out front that said tacos. I love tacos and I'm always trying to support local businesses in Carson. Customer service was excellent, and the price was good as well. It was three tacos with two types of salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, and grilled jalapeños. You can have a clean location, great customer service, good prices, but at the end of the day, it's the taste of the food that matters. This restaurant fell short in every way. The tortillas taste like they were warmed up in a microwave. The Carne Asada, pork and chicken all have no flavor . They were not seasoned well at all. The guacamole was a little brown like it had been sitting for a while. The pico de gallo is not good as well, not seasoned no spiciness at all. unfortunately, this is definitely not a place you want to visit for tacos. I should've known better based on the name of the restaurant but again just trying to support local businesses as they diversify to try to stay open. Maybe their coffee is better. I am in love with this place. They are always so nice. I can tell that the owner, Mark, emphasizes to their team to make their customers feel welcomed and valued because literally everyone has always been so kind and accommodating- whether offering suggestions, small talk or answering questions. I've encountered at least 5 different people and they've all been amazing! I am really big on customer service so they are already winning before the food and drinks are ordered. I can tell it is a family business. It has that feel and I love it. I tend to find something I like and veer. My go-to selects are the mudslide (a protein smoothie), the breakfast croissant (what makes this bomb us how much you get on it - 4 proteins!) And the vanilla cold brew with oat milk topped sea salt foam. The pesto chicken sandwich is being eyed however. I really need to try more of the menu. Today, T.K. made my sandwich. He told me he made it with love and asked me if I wanted to see it. I was so hungry and so happy that he made it with love and was excited to see his creation. It was magnificent! And Michael (I think, sorry if I got that wrong) made a wonderful cold brew for me today, too! They were both new employees but so attentive to me and it really made my day even better. They have a points program, too. Every 50 points earns you $5 off. The store is always clean. They have a small seating area but they somehow manage to make it feel roomy by maximizing the space. There is plenty of seating with a mounted television, too. I love the little details and the effort they make. For example, they offer flavored coffee creamer. I am very particular when it comes to my coffee which is why I tend to never order coffee when I'm out. Instead, I usually do like a latte or cappuccino but having these options is clutch. I make mine at home with french vanilla creamer so this makes me smile. Also, I believe their coffee is dark roast which is right up my alley. It is all I drink. Don't swing no medium roast my way. After the Yelp event I also purchased additional items. The review below is based on purchases made and not the Yelp event. I arrived this Sunday around 10 and the parking was easy. I am not sure how parking would be during the weekdays. The staff was very friendly and professional. The staff had a good vibe with the customers and they helped us use the photo booth. The photo booth was cool. The wall décor gave this place a nice vibe. There was not a ton of seating but enough and they also had some outdoor seating. I enjoyed the "Netflix and Crunch" cookie which was sweet, thick, and had a density of flavors. It reminded me of Recess and Chocolate and Cookie, so, it did the job. I enjoyed the Ham and Swiss Croissant because the ham was cooked and the bread was soft inside and lightly toasty on the outside; I appreciate that a lot. Stopped by while we were in the area after hearing about from a friend, and it's definitely a solid spot to grab a quick boba, smoothie, coffee. What was pleasantly surprising was the food though. It was really good. Drinks wise, I got the Mudslide shake, which is peanut butter based, really good and filling. Also tried the watermelon chamoy smoothie, which I really liked too. The sweetness level could not be lessened and the girl said the milk tea should not be too sweet. But I guess since I got two scoops of boba, mine turned out a little bit sweeter than I wanted. I wish they can lower sweetness level. But most importantly, why I am giving only 4 stars is because of the quality of boba I got. The owner of the cafe who is a veteran and served for the country and who I had the pleasure to meet and speak with every morning when I go in is an amazing kind person. I always go for the Thai Tea, which is Delicious and best in Carson town! The reason it's a clutch for me is because is near my home, near the Stadium, and near my job.
