You need to read my review on Pep Boys to understand my renewed appreciation for Auto Zone. I've always had good service here and love that I can "rent" tools for less than it would cost to buy them and get my money back upon return. It's a loan program that definitely builds customer loyalty and keep people coming through their doors. Anyway, that's one of the many things I like about this place. (You do have to check your receipts, though, because sometimes new employees don't seem to get it right.) That customer loyalty and building traffic thing is vital...so here goes (and do read my Pep Boys review if you want the whole enchilada)...I tried to pick up a battery at Pep Boys that was purchased for me as a gift online by my generous mom, who lives out-of-state. It was a ridiculous no-go, even though the employees have seen me there and I've also given them a good amount of business. Frustrated (understatement), we go to Auto Zone. Luis, a man of great patience (we learned he has seven kids), takes the time to hear us out, gives me the number for my mother to call, then, after verifying that she does indeed know me by asking pointed questions while looking at my ID, he takes her CC info over the phone, destroys the little notepaper he used to write it down in front of my eyes, processes the transaction and, like retail magic, we walk out with the battery. Tah dah...! Auto Zone gets the sale and I'm able to drive again without the drama-trauma that Pep Boys corporate was offering. Here's the deal: Luis was smart enough to know this wasn't a high-risk transaction and, apparently, Auto Zone puts at least a little trust in its employees to use common sense judgement in dealing with their valuable customers. Thank you, Luis, thank you, Auto Zone and thanks, mom, for getting me back on the road! Sorry, Pep Boys employees, that you're stuck in this cluster-you-know-what!!! PS: Another thank you is due for allowing for me to answer the question of whether or not my car is 4 or 6 cylinders, rather than running to your computer to confirm this information. I can kinda relate to Jefferey C.'s comment about dudes behind the counter just holding their own conversation, and a little bit with the fine I'll help you attitude... but I've had to go in there multiple times, and it's not always like that. Mind you, it shouldn't ever be like that, but I've had helpfule service from this specific store before. I recently needed to get a new battery, and the sales rep offered to replace it for me. I had a great experience at Autozone today! I had to get a new battery for my car. The checkout process was easy and they were very helpful helping me decide which battery I needed. Shah K installed the battery in my car and he was awesome! He was really friendly and very knowledgeable. He mentioned I had a leak that he noticed when he was changing the battery. I went to an Auto Zone close to my house and was told that they couldn't help me put my headlights in and found that strange and annoying but realized that it wasn't worth the argument so I left. A few days later I was running some errands and remembered that I still needed to get it done so I stopped into this Auto Zone which is where I met Jackson. Even though it was a busy for the store, he stepped away and helped me put my headlights in and I really appreciate his patience and going the extra mile for me. Thank you Jackson! read more

After looking for a part for approximately 4 hours in pepboys and Auto zone and other part stores like discount part and Napa, I finally arrived to this Auto zone,it was very busy and the staff look knowledgeable and try to help,after few minutes in line,the guy checked and find the part but he said that he doesn't have it and asked me if he wants me to check other Auto zones,he looked in the system and saw that the one in Arleta has it, he wrote me down the adress,charged me for the part,called the other store and told them to make it ready for pick up,this is how a customer should be taken care off,the auto zone on sepulveda could do the same thing about 4 hours ago when I had started to look for this part. As the owner of two 15+ year old cars, I've gotten a ton of parts here. If it says online that it's in stock they always have it. Sometimes the wait in line can feel long. The employees aren't the friendliest or happiest in the world but you know what neither are the other customers. What an AWFUL experience at this store location. The employees, especially the manager, Christian, were extremely unhelpful and careless. They messed up our order for chains and could not even tell us what happened, after specifically assuring us days before it would be ready. Disappointed is an understatement. This is my go to place for auto parts, it seems like if the part is not in stock their staff is extremely helpful in getting parts quicker than other locations. This review deserves zero stars. I had ordered and paid for a part. They are supposed to call when the part arrives. Nobody called. It took three calls and more than thirty minutes holding to find the part. When I went in to pick it up the manager Carlos aka Max was extremely aggressive and rude and lied to my face telling me that all calls go through a call center and it was not his staffs fault that I was on hold for so long. Even though it was obvious this was a lie on the way home I called the store and spoke directly to him after first checking to see if I had reached the shop directly ( which of course I had). He soon changed his tune and apologized. I have written to Autozone to complain. So poor was this mans behavior this is the first time in my life I have been moved to do this. I will never go to an Autozone again. I encourage you to do likewise. read more

Concerning employees at 18824 SHERMAN WAY RESEDA, CA 91335... On Feb 25 2013 about 3pm. Three employees behind counter and not one would wait on me. I was the only person in the store ready to make my purchase of battery cables. All 3 saw me waiting and when I asked to be helped one standing behind the counter said "I'm off the clock". Then I said, "Is there anyone that will take my money?" Then one of the other 2 sales people behind the counter got up and said "Fine, over here", after I paid he said "have a nice day" in a sarcastic tone. And she came out to the car to see and gave my some plastic ass screws and fucked up whole because it broke right inside. Very Poor customer service. I brought in a motorcycle battery to test and charge. The lady who helped me didn't speak English so after about 20 minutes of dealing with her I had to wait for another employee to be free. They told me come back in 5 hours to see if its good. I came back in six. I waited in line for about 5 to 10 minutes at the register. When it was my turn the guy said " Oh for a battery pick up you have to wait ever there". I said " there is no one over there"? He made me wait at the other counter until he rang up the 4 customers behind me while he took parts phone calls, so that was another 10 - 15 minutes. Came over finally looks at my battery in the back and came out with the bad news. Its a sealed gel battery and that takes a lot longer to charge up. I have to come back tomorrow. Urrggghhhh! I came back the next day to all new employees who were just as annoying and I am sure had no idea what the term "customer service" even means. (well maybe I was just still angry). I waited in the right place for about 5 minutes while people took calls and looked for parts. I finally had to literally step in front of someone to get help. He was a manager and had a lot of pins that showed his training including a customer service pin, SWEET! He brought my battery out and told me it had 12.9 volts. I asked him how it tested? ( you have to test a battery under load (simulated starter) because it can have enough volts but not enough amps) (amps start you car/motorcycle). He told me that they can not test such a small battery with there equipment. I was pretty annoyed about all the times and trips to AutoZone with a horrible result. I told him about all that had happened. His response was, "That sucks, we are normally pretty good here". I asked him how he got that customer service pin. He didn't like that at all! I went home and got all the other stuff I had purchased there and returned it. I even emailed corporate office and told them the story. They keep trying to give me coupons but unless they are to another company I will not take them!!! read more

I went to this store today to purchase a low beam light for my car. Even though the store is not in the best area possible, the staff is always very helpful. Mario O. asked me right away if I needed assistance and helped me find the bulb and oil, which I remembered I needed for my car once Mario told me about their promotional offers. Mario was kind enough to help me change the bulb. Mario definitely made sure I was a happy customer by changing the bulb and making sure that it worked before I left the parking area. Awful, awful awful. I drive an 01 Escape and I went in for break pads and rotors. They sent me home with rotors for a truck and the wrong break pads. They also sent me and my boyfriend home with other miscellaneous things that were the wrong sizes etc. Not only were they incompetent, but their customer service was horrible. Attitude, and a sense of "I hate my job, I don't want to be here." NOT the attitude I want from someone I have to deal with when I go anywhere. read more

Have never had a problem finding what I need here. The major problem though, is they are always so understaffed, you wait at least 10 minutes in line just to pay, no matter the time of day. They have multiple registers but there's always just one person doing it, looking stressed and bothered. No real customer service, just grabs the money, hands you change, never asks if you need a bag, and then hurries you on. They need help here, badly. read more

Staff was really swamped today. But they still helped customers quickly. The staff was nice and helpful. They charged my battery for free. I think that is an awesome service. That in itself makes me want to come back. In addition they tested battery to see if I needed a new one. These people just don't know what they're doing. Nobody here knows what your car needs, or what a simple gasket is. And when all else fails they resort to their computer, ask you what the year make and model of the vehicle is, and tell you the part isn't available. I'm pretty sure that 2.5" gaskets are UNIVERSAL. Decent Autozone. Kind of hard to get into the parking lot. Their parking lot is also oddly shapped but the store itself does the job. I come here alot to pick up car oil and car filters before i do an oil change. They have most car parts and I do believe also offer free services like testing your car battery or alternator. I think I prefer Autozone to Pep Boys based on overall value but the stores are definitely different when it comes to size services offered. They don't do repairs here. read more

Management on duty might be the most incompetent people I've ever spoken with. They are unable to find a receipt in their system, based on the exact date, time, amount, and location reflected on my bank transaction record. The kicker, it's for 37.22. Not 100, or 500, or even 50 bucks. I think one guy lied to me about being the manager, because the problem escalated to the Assistant manager, who could not explain to me why they took money from my account, less than a month ago, and couldn't produce proof as to why it was removed. Either way, they obviously owe me 37.22. Whether they choose to believe me that it is for the lights that I am trying to return is up to them. Hope it was worth this horrible review, and everyone who's time they wasted that we're lining up during the Sunday afternoon rush, arguing over 37.22. If they prove that I did not purchase the lights from them, then they are admitting to fraudulent activity. I don't know what else to say but, I expect more from a company as essential to the community as Auto Zone. read more

Professionally trained to rip you off! I had a problem with my son's car after I replaced the thermostat; car wouldn't start. Everything was checked...so I took the battery to this location. The guy behind (behind so you can't see) tested it and said "Very Dead" So my son bought a $70 one. Brought it back....hooked it up...nothing! So my son look around down the engine and "hey dad, what is this wire not connected?" It was the ground on the housing. So I connected it and duh, the car started right up. Left it in that car and brought the car back to that Auto Zone. They refused to give me the old one back and a refund!...So I got angry and asked to see the manager...he also refused. So I told him I'd call corporate and also stand outside to inform all coming in customers to not trust this place. So he said "Fine...here is you $ back and you dead battery". With that...I said "I'm a professional Voodo doctor...I bring the dead back to life" With that he got mad and said B.S. that is a dead battery. I then had him and the other guys come out to watch (and a few customers too) I put the "dead" battery back in...I said fake mumbo-jumbo and delclared it "raised from the dead and with the living" opened and closed the hood 3 times and had my son start it up. The look on their faces was priceless! I'll go back cause they do have the small things at a good price. I also think I made them more honest....I hope. 2 stars cause the manager on a later visit did apologize. read more

My husband went in to purchase a car part and came up to the desk to pay. The clerk (a Hispanic guy) said, "and whatever is in your pocket." My husband (who's never stolen anything in his life) got extremely angry at the accusation and immediately pulled out his pockets showing the clerk they were empty. It was especially demeaning due to the fact that there were several customers in the store at the time. He stormed out of the store and when he told me about it I said he should have demanded to see the supervisor. He was willing to drop the whole incident but I told him they're lucky it wasn't me, I would have sued them for false accusation or at least public humiliation. We'll never go to ANY Auto Zone again. read more

I wish this wasn't the nearest AutoZone to my house. The line is usually long and they are always understaffed. I complained to the store manager about it and he said they can't hire more people because they don't have more computers. I asked the obvious and he said they can't buy more computers because they don't have space. Tonight I called, they had the part I needed and said they would hold it at the register so I wouldn't have to wait in the parts line.. When I got there - no part ! They had to look it up again and go fetch it. Guess what ? They said they were too busy to put the part behind the register !! ....so they had to look it up twice and waste time. read more

If I can avoid writing a bad review I will but I can honestly say this store deserves all the bad reviews. I purchased some rubber hoses from this store almost a month ago. When I asked the employee for hell because they have to cut it for you he took me to the back and cut the tubing I asked for 2 feet of hose he cut about a foot and a half. So I asked for another two feet again I got a foot and a half then I asked for 6 feet of another hose and I actually received the 6 feet shockingly enough. A month later goes bye and I never ended up using the hoses so I thought might as well try and return them (completely understanding if they wouldn't allow it because it's been almost a month and they were custom cut) I went to a different autozone just because it was closer the person who helped me was kind and understanding he believed everything I told and and very kindly explained to me that unfortunately he couldn't return it because it was shorter than what's written but he told me to take it to the store I bought it from and they should return it no problem. Boy was he wrong. Max Moran was the manager at that store and sadly he was the person helping me. I told him the same story I told the employee at the other store but instead of just saying no or being understanding he got defensive and started arguing he started accusing me of cutting the hoses at home and that I must be lying to him his exact words were "I'm not stupid this wasn't done by us" because his store wouldn't give me a product like that. I told him if he didn't believe me that I'll happily wait for him to check the cameras because I could care less about the 30 dollars but you don't call me a liar and expect me to sit there and take it because you and your employees are incompetent. I will say he did end up taking the product back after my father put him in his place about how to treat a customer. But I've never gotten treated like this but explain the poor reviews on yelp this store should close the one down the street is cleaner and everyone is nicer.
