Neighborhood Auto parts in the 'hood. Back in the day it was easy to find guys at a friend's carport where a car was being worked on, everyone was positioned around an open car hood, working on the car, talking story. Most people would go to their neighborhood auto parts store to get those spark plugs, oil or whatever you needed. There aren't as many stores as before but you can still find them. Here in the Kaimuki/Kapahulu area of east Honolulu, one of the larger Auto parts stores is AutoZone. They stock just about anything you might need for repair or maintenance outside of real specialty items you might need to get directly from the car dealership. The stuff you are likely to do yourself such as oil change, wiper blades, coolant, battery, etc can probably be found here. Although cars have gotten pretty complex, if you know what you are doing you can likely find the product you need here. AutoZone had a nice-sized parking lot and it's easy to look for your what you need or employees to talk to about products but also advice for minor issues. A nice neighborhood auto parts store with friendly staff for your do it yourself auto needs. read more

First world issues... Thank you Nadine for noticing my brake light was out as it would be difficult to notice on your own but knowing which one is another thing for me. I've passed AutoZome numerous times as it's located on busy Waialae across City Mill and with lots of free parking it was not an issue. Walking I'm sure I had the look of confusion...and I was but luckily the staff was able to look up the right part number I needed though I was on my own for the search wishing the sea a bulb it's mind blowing as u search behind a gentleman who was struggling himself but luckily I found exactly what I was looking for and was on my way. I chose AutoZone specifically because their batteries are supposed to come with free installation -- that was the deciding factor for me. Walking into the store, it was not that busy (about five people ahead of us, three workers on the floor). I was helped by a tall Filipino man in his 30s with black hair, wearing a red shirt (no name tag, an employee I presume, because managers wear gray). From the start, his attitude was off-putting. Before ringing me up, I asked if installation was included. He flatly replied, "No, I cannot." I explained that I wouldn't be purchasing the battery if installation wasn't part of it. With irritation, he responded, "I'm on break." I said, "Okay, then I won't be purchasing this battery and I'll go elsewhere." With a huff, he muttered, "Wait," disappeared to the back, returned with tools, and told me to pull my car to the front. I obliged, trying to remain patient. As soon as I popped the hood, he glanced at it and went straight into dramatics: "There's too much to remove, I can't do it. I'll refund you. I'll talk to the manager." ZERO EFFORT, ZERO COURTESY. He went inside and complained to the manager. Thankfully, Kayla, the store manager, was the complete opposite of him. She was calm, professional, and genuinely helpful. After assisting another customer, she came over, grabbed her tools, and got to work. The "too much" that her employee had complained about? Simply removing one clip from a plastic panel -- a task that took less than a minute. She then completed the rest of the battery replacement smoothly and efficiently. TO THAT RUDE EMPLOYEE: If you're on break, stay on break. If you can't help right away, say so politely -- I would have gladly waited. Instead, your negativity and laziness turned what should have been a simple service into a miserable experience. Everyone has bad days, but that doesn't excuse unprofessionalism. If you hate your job, don't take it out on customers. Be professional -- or find another job. Kayla deserves recognition for stepping up and doing the job with kindness and efficiency. Unfortunately, the first employee's behavior soured the entire experience, which is why this review is one star. read more

Worked Here Before & The Manager Was Very Unprofessional. He Had His Child Running All Over The Store While Work Hours. The Delivery Vehicle Smelt Like Weed & They Were Speeding In The Work Truck. They Were Welding In The Store & Sleeping There As Well. I Heard Complaint After Complaint's About The Poor Service & Complaint's About The Worker's Smoking Outside Of The Store Door. I Got Into It With Other Store Manager's Because Of How The Managers Were Treating The Employee's Wrong. Some Of The Customers I Delivered To Also Gave Me Attitude For No Reason Because They Could Pay For The Parts They Ordered. This auto parts store has been my go to for anything auto related since I moved to this area. The website is also easy to navigate and see what's available before you go. I've ordered a couple of hard to find parts a number of times. They even carry some trailer parts if you need them. I had blown out a bearing on my trailer and had to park it by a sidewalk. I was able to look online and the find the bearing I needed and picked it up same day. It saved the day as I was able to go back, Jack up the trailer and get us back on the road. This past visit I had to find some vulcanizing rubber cement for tire repair and they were the only place I could find that as well. The parking lot is a bit challenging being on Waialae Ave near UH, but it's got a lot of spots and have never seen it completely full. The workers have all been helpful with inventory and recommendations. Definitely my favorite auto parts store in the area and highly recommend it. I went in to get a new battery for my car. They were super busy but one if the workers were able to help me with researching the type if battery my car uses and also helped to assist me with changing the battery. I was impressed because a female helped me out and majority of the times I have been to these parts stores, it has been predominantly males working in them or who would come out to help me with something. This employee was very friendly, talked some story about how she was sent to schooling for mechanics up on the mainland and wanted to work for a huge auto company but here she is. I was just impressed watching her change out the battery while telling me her story. She tried hard at getting the old battery out, as it was stuck, so she asked an associate of hers if he could help her out. He came out to help and it must have been jammed because he too had a hard time getting the battery out. With a little more muscle he was able to. She then was able to put the battery in with both problem. Had me start up the car, and done deal. I was happy with her assistance and tipped her out as well to show some appreciation for what she has helped me with. I was happy with the great customer service! read more

How do they get so many useful things in such a small space and I got to tell you it was worth dropping in there. I'm a disabled veteran and I went in there and the guy jumped up from behind the counter and took my list and went and filled it Bing Bang boom.. I was so pleased that he took the initiative to do that how nice of a. Both guys at the counter were pretty busy and so it was nice that he took that moment to stepper away from on my behalf. It's a small place but man they can really pack a lot of stuff in their. Decided to fix my light in my dash panel of my car .Well went to Napa they didn't have the part I was looking for. Decided to check out Auto Zone for the first time. Not a good first impression got to the counter the sales person asked if I needed help. I showed him my small bulb I was looking for . Another salesperson got involved in the conversation and right off the bat said they don't carry that bulb. He explained that I would have to buy a generic bulb than have to wire it myself. Than he advised I should buy a whole pack of bulbs because it's going to be hard to wire and might go through a couple before I get it right. First of all I don't have patience in doing that and I told him I'll just go check directly through Toyota parts department. He replied he doesn't think even the dealership would carry that kind of bulb. Well I know for a fact the dealership will carry it because how would their mechanic fix Toyota without having the parts ? I'm sure it probably be very expensive but that's ok because it has to be done . If not I would be driving at night and can't see how fast I'm driving lol. Kiana is the BEST and made me into an Autozone customer for life! Car battery went out, AAA gave me a jump start and told me I needed a new battery. None of the other shops had the battery in stock. Autozone opens the earliest at 7am so I gave them a call. Kiana told me to come in for free battery testing, charging and jump start if needed. Not only did Kiana test my battery and found out it was perfectly fine (just needed a jumpstart), she tested the alternator and other parts to make sure they were working fine. Kiana went above and beyond; she took the time to educate me and I learned so much! She showed me how to disconnect the battery and reconnect it, showed me the exact wrench to buy at the best price, then watched me do it to make sure I was doing it right. Kiana taught me some great info about car maintenance as well. I'm so much more confident about car maintenance and learned so much. Kiana is a great manager and Autozone professional. Great Service here and very convenient location with a good variety of automotive parts, tooling and accessories. I came here looking for a 5/32 socket for a project. They had a 1/4 inch drive T-Handle driver with assorted SAE sockets that meet my basic need. I can't say the tooling is the highest quality but for the price, it meets the need. I was asked several times if I required any assistance and then after politely refusing, left alone to explore their tooling on my own. I appreciate the offer and also appreciate being allowed to browse the isles on my own. AutoZone has a reward program and offers a Military discount. Long story short: Huge thank you to Kiana, knowledgable and a fast worker, and a great help to me! Free battery check and free battery replacement/installment, though I still left a tip cuz she deserved it! She also helped me purchase a new alternator real quick! Long story: Kiana helped me multiple times throughout the day to replace both my battery and get me a new alternator to be installed at another shop. She was always helpful and polite, fast in her work and knowledgeable. She gave me both cheaper and more fancy options so I could choose for myself, and explained everything to me in a way I could understand. The battery check was free and so was the installation. Also, the battery check diagnosed my failing alternator as well, so they saved me a lot of work and money! 10/10 service and a HUGE thank you to Kiana; she saved me and my car today! :) read more

One of the things we need to do is to find a good steering wheel cover for the car. Unfortunately my husband is too picky that he wanted to grab the thing/s in here. And way up from Waikiki we drive all the way to this AutoZone. ~ We purchased the tan steering wheel cover and a coconut perfume spray. This store is pretty good to shop for your car's need. From accessories to almost everything. This store will whip you off. ~ Customer service is good. They are really professional and knowledgeable. They got the patience to deal with frustrated customers like my husband. Staffs in here are simply informative. I love this store. This review is for Fri 11.11.22 I received the best service from sales rep Kiana Smith!! Exchanged a 2 yr old battery under warranty, the transaction was quick and flawless. I spoke to Kiana the day prior about my situation. She checked to ensure the same battery was in stock. She pulled up my transaction history to verify the warranty and told me to just come into the store when ready. So I did the next day. Kiana also helped me removed the old battery and put the new one into my car. She was very professional, knowledgeable, had a great attitude and excellent customer service skills. I was very impressed by this young lady and her automobile knowledge. Turns out She is a recent graduate from an auto mechanic school and received additional training in the mainland in this area. She answered every question I had about my car ranging from what size ranch and socket to use if I was to change out the battery on my own next time, synthetic oil is better for my vehicle after certain mileage, power steering oil for my other car. An auto supply store that stays open till 10:00 PM at nite? Shoooooooots! So I was checkin' the fluids in my rod the other day (as I knew it was almost time to change the oil in my rod). After checkin' the oil, I decided to check the other fluids in my rod and I noticed my radiator reserve on my rod was a bit low on fluids. What shall I do???? Well, first of all..........I went to my auto shelf to see if I had some Anit-Freeze..........upon checking my auto shelf, I saw that I had the Dex-Cool Anti-Freeze (da pink stuff), but that's not what my rod uses. What I really needed was the Motorcraft Anti-Freeze (da gold stuff) for my rod, but unfortunately for me, I got have that. Darn it! Well, that's when AutoZone came into the picture...................I first went to the AutoZone web site to see if they actually carried the Motorcraft Anti-Freeze (the stuff I needed for my rod), but unfortunately this item is only available if you order it via on-line at AutoZone, you cannot pick up this item locally at an AutoZone store. Shucks! No matter, I decided to check out AutoZone anyways, as it's not too far from my house. Upon walking into this new store located diagonally across the street from the Kaimuki City Mill hardware store, I must say that this new AutoZone parts store is pretty darn clean looking, & very well organized! I head straight to the Anti-Freeze section to see what was available.......and upon looking around, I find this AutoZone brand, Universal Anti-Freeze. Well, it may not be the Gold Colored Motorcraft Anti-Freeze that I'm looking for, as this AutoZone Universal Anti-Freeze is"green colored", but it says it can be mixed with whatever (because it's universal), so I go ahead & get it.......not bad, about $15.00 bucks or so..........cheap enough, as it's not gonna break da bank, so I wen' chance 'em! Hopefully it will get me though for a few months till I have to drain my radiator (to clean), then replace the radiator fluid (with the correct fluid) in a couple of months......... read more

Went to AZ to replace my headlight lamp. Ryan helped me by volunteering to help replace the bulb. He suggested removing the bulb holder and putting it back in to test the bulb. He said that's what he did for a customer last week and it worked. He did the same for me car & it worked. He didn't try to upset me but just provided eexcellent customer service. My Kia needed some battery care, and my daughter suggested AutoZone. Although I knew exactly where it was, I never needed to go there before. My car had been acting up, but I hadn't had a chance to check it out until, well, it was too late! After surmising that the weird clicking noises and flashing lights meant that I wasn't going anywhere without assistance, my dear daughter helped me jump the car (thank you, YouTube) and I got to work just in time. Fast-forward to the end of a busy day where I forgot to go home during daylight, and of course, clickety sounds but no purr of the engine. Dear Son and Daughter came to the rescue again, and thank goodness AutoZone is open until 9pm!! After the jump, I drove straight to the end of Waialae and did a weird turn (that actually makes sense) into the parking lot. I debated about turning off the engine, but my pragmatic daughter said, "Well, if you need a jump they can probably help you..." I walked into the unfamiliar but fun-looking territory and found several helpful-looking faces, and of the three people at the register, one was not helping anyone and without hesitation, came over to see what I needed. I didn't get her name, but she offered to check out the battery. I led the way to my car (the hood was already opened by the prepared daughter), the AutoZone person found out pretty quickly that my battery was BAD (it even says that right on the ... multimeter-like thingie?) and she noted that the existing battery was from Napa and that it might still be under warranty. She also noted that if I got a battery there, I might need to come back during daylight hours. Either way, I was happy with her friendliness and efficiency already. She went back inside to see if they even had the kind of battery I needed and then came out to say that one of her co-workers was willing to do it right then. (He was under no obligation to do so at that hour.) Well, one of the other friendly cashiers showed me the types of batteries they had available, I chose the one I wanted, and while I was paying for everything, the young but experienced installer got the tools he needed and went to work. I realize this is getting long and it must be because I'm a teacher with students who love stories, but this is Yelp, not school, so suffice it to say that Cy, or Sai, or Tsai was a sigh of relief because as soon as he was done and the bonnet was shut, I tried my Kia Soul again and she started like a dream. My battery has been going out, I stopped by Auto Zone to have them test it, and sure enough, bad battery. Shen (sp?) installed my battery for me, and while my vehicle started right up, it immediately died which it had not been doing previously. Logically the problem couldn't be related to the battery, though it was quite the coincidence! Shen took a number of steps to try to diagnose the problem on a hot day in a hot parking lot. Really appreciated the extra effort, I've definitely been to places where they'd shrug it off and say the issue wasn't related to the battery. read more

I'm not a mechanic by any means, but this shop not only has the resources to help you with car problems they also have excellent customer service. High fives (virtually) to the guys that work there. I went there because they provide free diagnostics for your check engine light when it surprises you unexpectedly. They were supportive for the whole process and the BEST thing is they encouraged me to fix my car myself. I saved probably $300 by doing this project on my own!
