He then insisted on helping me change both my headlights even though it was pouring rain.

Pandemic life has really put me out of touch with my car and being in it as a daily habit. In any…read morecase, I finally figured out I had been driving with one headlight (for who knows how long). After some youtubing and removing the bulb from the light housing, I made my way over to AutoZone (it also happened to be Christmas Eve - so I wanted to make it there before they closed early. Luckily they had their holiday hours posted on their website. Got in, found the bulb/lighting aisle easily and made my choice. The store wasn't that busy so it was easy to social distance. All staff and customers were properly wearing masks. The staffer who checked me out recommended this bulb grease to make my connection to the new bulb better. I could have said no, but I'm an automotive novice - it couldn't hurt anyway and it was like a dollar and some change. I can't imagine Autozone making loads of money with trying to push bulb grease, but after reading about it, it does help with making the bulb more effective and have a better connection - so kudos AZ! Thanks for lookin' out. I was in and out of the store in about 5 min. I did see another associate helping another customer get new windshield wipers on his car - even though there is a "NO WORKING ON YOUR CAR IN THE PARKING LOT" policy indicated in the signage around the lot. I probably don't have the whole story (the customer may have tried at home and was unsuccessful) so I'm not going to pass judgement. Overall, I would come to this AZ again if I needed a part or something for my car. It is a little weird to get to due to the light rail, but depending on which direction you are coming from, a u-turn will get your there regardless.

This is the first time I have experienced this. We have the same bank account. They said it's an auto zone policy. Making things difficult for their customers to return things. It makes so sense to make returning a brand new, unopened, receipt in hand this hard to return an item. Not happy at all!

If you're looking for lower cost through discount labor rates this is not the place. Your SIGNIFICANT cost savings come from this: I have had my car at a dealership several times over the years. The dreaded moment comes when the service writer comes out to tell you the bad news. You need 11 things (real number from one experience) done immediately. I thanked the service writer, asked for a copy and bought it to Compact. Two of the eleven were "Do it now" required. 7 were done as needed over the next 50 or so thousand miles. AND 120,000 miles later, two of the recommendations on that clipboard never came to pass. I can't begin to calculate my savings. But what is priceless is knowing I'm family and in good hands.

That introduction likely says enough, but I would not recommend you bring your car here for service. In June, Compact Car Service replaced the front axles on my 2014 Honda Civic, a car that has an automatic transmission. However, instead of installing axles meant for an automatic transmission vehicle, they installed axles meant for a manual transmission vehicle. I had two different shops diagnose this same error, including an actual Honda dealership. As a result of the wrong axles being installed, my car was completely destroyed, I broke down on the side of the road in a different state and had to have an entirely new transmission installed after having the car towed back to my house. This was an extremely expensive and time-consuming endeavor. I had been taking my Civics to Compact Car Service for seven years prior to this error with only good things to say, and I completely understand that mistakes happen. The most egregious part of the entire experience was their response. When I reached out to Compact Car Service informing them of the error, they informed me that there was no possibility they could be responsible and would take no steps to even look at the car or acknowledge the possibility. Since they would not acknowledge any possibility of wrongdoing, I was forced to file a lawsuit. Compact Car Service, I imagine through their insurance company, brought a team of lawyers to argue that no wrongdoing had occurred. Fortunately, the judge agreed with the findings of the other mechanics, and they were obligated to make a $5,000 payment (an amount that does not come close to making me whole, but at least it's done now). If you come here, hopefully nothing goes wrong with your car because if it does, it will be a six-month legal battle and extremely expensive to get them to take any form of accountability. I imagine someone from the company will contest the contents of this review, but the case and its conclusion are public record for anyone to see for themselves. I advise in the future that Compact Car Service understands that mistakes can occur and at least tries to act like the responsible small business they claim to be.
