Y'all. Please go see Eric at this Autozone on Burnet. He was the absolute best. I know nothing about cars, and even though I know a battery check & change is not a big deal, I was apprehensive and had been avoiding the task for some time. I drove in on a Monday at about 6:30pm with my 2017 Honda Civic EX hatchback. Eric immediately agreed to check my battery, explained that although it was still holding a pretty good charge, it had "dead cells" and did in fact, need to be replaced. He quoted me a couple of options (low, mid, and high range), and completed install immediately and also changed my wiper blades. I mentioned that I'd be interested in learning about the battery change for future reference, and he actually (and very patiently) walked me through the entire battery check & change process (tools needed, steps, tips, etc.). I mean...so great! I felt a little wiser about my car, didn't feel taken advantage of, and will happily return for future service. read more

This review applies equally to all Auto-Zones, so far as I know---but for purposes of specificity, I'll tag it to the actual store that I know and love. There's nothing very exciting about Autozone: they've got lots of cleaning products, boring parts, floor mats and other things that have a hard time inspiring me to buy much. What they do have, however, is something that is absolutely *free* and a godsend to reasonably recent-model car owners: the Car-Whisperer! You're driving along, minding your own business one day and your engine light comes on. Like an infant, it won't tell you *what* is wrong, which puts you in a really fantastic bargaining position both vis-a-vis your car (do you make it keep going for the next month or so, or fold and go straight to your mechanic?) and your mechanic (who, as usual, will have all of the information about the actual price and severity of your car woes while you have, exactly, none). If only you had a way to speak to your car. Enter, stage left, the Car-Whisperer. Behind the counter of every AutoZone in America (I'm told) resides a little computer approximately the size of the voltage gauge, which an employee will happily--and complementarily--plug into your car (never fear: they know where the jack is) and which will tell you what is wrong. Or, at least, what your car thinks is wrong. My car? Exhaust was too rich. What does that mean? Buy a $5 bottle of gas-tank cleaner, use some higher-octane fuel, and drive as long as you want until you feel like getting a real fuel-injector cleaning job. Nothing serious. There's no reason why AutoZone should do this for free; and if I were a mechanic used to preying upon the information-asymmetries so favorable to my wallet, I'd be not-too-pleased if everyone knew about the Car Whisperer. I might have to lower my prices. Or be honest. Imagine that. read more

Autozone has lost my trust. 3/3: My car needed a jump start so I drove straight to AutoZone to have the battery checked; they said it was "like new", but the alternator was bad. They referred me to Brake Check #405 for the alternator replacement. Brake Check charged a 190% mark up for the alternator part (compared to the price listed on AutoZone's website) and they put in a remanufactured one provided by AutoZone without telling me. 4/7: My car died while I was in morning rush hour traffic about a month later when the refabbed alternator failed. I took it back to Brake Check and they told me my issue was probably "electrical" but that since it was under AutoZone's warranty they would order an upgraded one and install it for free (Duralast Gold #DLG11051). 4/9: Brake Check installs the second alternator, ensuring me this one is brand new. 5/5: My battery light has been flickering on and off for two days. I take it to Lone Star Auto, they check and tell my my alternator is bad. I call Brake Check and they insist it is an "electrical" issue and that they don't do electrical. Lone Star calls Will Bakel (the Manager at Auto Zone) to come over and take a look (since the alternator and battery are Auto Zone parts, and the two shops are next door to each other). Will says the battery is spewing acid and is corroded and in awful shape, and that it is over 7 years old; he supplies them with paperwork showing my original battery purchase from 2009, but fails to show the record where it was replaced by AutoZone in 2012 under warranty, or that the tech at Auto Zone told me it was perfectly fine just the previous month (on 3/3). Lone Star replaces the battery, but says the alternator is still an issue. 5/6: I take my car to Infiniti to have them check for electrical issues. They do a diagnosis and come back in ten minutes to tell me the alternator is running at 14.8 - 15.2 volts and this caused the weakened battery to die (and spew acid). They said they get many referrals from AutoZone telling customers their alternator needs to be replaced, but that in 90% of cases it is just the battery that needs replacing, and that I probably only needed a new battery in the first place. 5/9: Back I go to Brake Check for the third alternator under AutoZone's warranty. This time I insist to see their paperwork that it is an OE alternator and NOT a Duralast but an Infiniti recommended brand (they installed a Remy #12569). A two month long saga, three alternators and one new battery later, $760 spent, and AutoZone in partnership with Brake Check was finally able to get my car back to driving safely. p.s. - AutoZone provides zero warranty on batteries they've replaced under their warranty. read more

I couldn't have been more impressed with this Autozone. They went above and beyond the call of duty to help us. We went in there to find a battery. Actually, we were just being cheap. We wanted our battery tested for free (Lamb's Automotive offered to test our battery for $20.00. Anyway, Jesse was super helpful. He greeted us right away, tested our battery and our alternator for FREE! He didn't have to test our alternator, he suggested that he could do that on his own. Great! My only qualm is, I don't think their testing equipment is very accurate. It took him several, several times to get a good read on the battery and the alternator. He told us that it was most likely the alternator. Which we found out later it wasn't. He could have tried to make some money off of us by selling us a battery, but he didn't. I don't know much about cars, so I'm always anxious going into Autozone. I try to do my research and talk to people who know a lot more than I do before walking in, so I"m not completely clueless. I've been here before for small stuff (wiper blades, antifreeze, etc) and usually get one of the nice employees.Whenever I need the most help though, I always wind up getting the one employee here who acts like he hates his job and everyone else. As soon as I need a battery or to have them do a diagnostic test, I get the guy who completely ignores me, takes calls in the middle of helping me, and talks down to me. He also overcharged me for my battery (you get a discount for bringing in your old battery), but I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible and didn't argue with him. I've started going to O'Reilly's instead, but sometimes I have to drag myself back to autozone if O'Reilly's doesn't have the parts I need. read more

This AutoZone has been my go-to place for auto parts since Advanced Auto Parts at Burnet and Anderson Lane moved. I've come here twice for small things: a rear brakelight bulb and today, two quarts of Pennzoil 10W30 since my Corolla apparently uses oil really fast in the past few weeks. The store is pretty organized. Their prices seem fair and the service is good. The guy at the checkout counter actually asked me if I needed any help as he walked past me. The Pennzoil 10W30 was only $3.99/quart compared to $4.59 at Walgreens. This AutoZone is located on the east side of Burnet Rd. It faces Burnet Rd clearly and there's a traffic light intersection at Burnet to enter the huge and clean AutoZone driveway/parking lot. The traffic light intersection is two blocks north of Koenig. There's something about going to Auto Zone that almost immediately sets me on edge. Maybe it's that somehow, even though aisles are clearly marked, I still have to ask for help. Maybe it's because I feel like, for the majority of the time, I get talked down to. Either way, this was (in comparison) one of my worst Auto Zone experiences I've had. So, that's saying something. We went in for a simple tire pump. Couldn't find any. Waited in line. And waited in line and that was followed by waiting in line. Mind you, there were only about 4 people in the store, and there were 3 people working there, so I'm not sure what the issue was. Finally we get up to ask where the air pumps are. They very nice guys shows us over to them. They're out of most models. He goes back in the back to check backstock. "Nope, that's all we have." "Well, we found this $20 model that looks pretty good." "Oh yeah, that should do you well. Come over here, and I'll ring you up." At this point, I'm thinking, "Sweet, we'll get outta here without too much fuss." Then the phone rings. The guys who's helping us proceeds to take not one but TWO phone calls as we're standing there in front of him at his register. I begin to see the issue. More and more, these guys are taking phone calls and helping people over then phone, while making actual paying customers wait. We finally see the cashier open up and bolt toward him. The icing on the cake? He rings us up and charges us $29.99 + tax for something labeled $19.99. "Uh, this was priced at $19.99." "Oh, it was probably mislabeled or in the wrong spot, because there's no way this one is just $20." At this point, I'm done. Give me the fucking thing, and let's get the hell outta here. The only reason this isn't one star is that the guy who started out helping us was actually really helpful. Except for when he answered the phone. My check engine light is on. And my inspection is out. Not good. My car was in the shop THREE (not one, not two, but THREE) times last week. And my mechanic still could not figure out the problem. So, I took my sorry ass excuse for transportation over to the dudes at Autozone. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a nice gentleman "Hi, how can I help you?" "Uh, my check engine light won't go off. Can you do that thing with that computer thingy that tells you what's wrong?" "Sure, no problem." Come to find out, some valve thing is clogged, and needs to be replaced. And it is going to cost me $115 just for the part alone. Bummer. But it is nice to know what is actually wrong with the car, thanks to Autozone. Oh, did I mention it's free? Cause it's free to have them check your car with the computer thingy, NICE! read more

This place is great - had a dying battery and went to replace it. It was a rainy, cold weekend and I would have gladly paid someone to take care of the mess for me but I put on my big girl panties and went to get a new battery. As I'm googling the battery needed for my car make/model, I realize that they can DO THAT FOR ME and sell it to me straight from the counter. Sure enough, they did a little typing of their own and pulled up some options for me. I said, "no, pass, YES, and thank you." Next thing you know, the guy is installing the battery for me and I walk out of the store in about 15 minutes total. It took almost 7 minutes to watch the YouTube instructional video - so save yourself some time and just get it changed here. Thank you!!! read more

The worst customer service I've ever had. I went in to get a simple bushing after work late one night about 20 minutes before closing and the young native American kid was obviously just trying to get home when I had been having issues with my shift lock release and just needed a little bit of help. It seemed like he was very either agitated or on some type of stimulant because he could not stop moving and fidgeting and it was very disturbing and unnerving to say the least. I went to look for the part myself being that he couldn't find it in his system or in the bushing section and expected me to know exactly what I was looking for. Because of his lack of knowledge, after a quick google search I was still was not able to find the exact item. I went back to the desk with the information I found on the part and he aggressively typed it into the system and aggravated, pushed the screen towards me saying that we don't have it. I asked him is there a reason why you didn't look up the part for my make and model and he did not have an answer for me so I let him know that, "I know you're just trying to get home for the night but so am I and I don't wanna be stranded on the road can you please help me?" he then, proceeded to tell me that I would have to go to some warehouse to get the part. It was very obvious that he did not want to help me and his concern was more about getting home so I said never mind walked out and let them know that I would never come back to that store again. The staff, except for one employee not wearing a name badge (convienent, huh?) were all very helpful. Chris McCune especially was very knowledgeable and helpful. I was having trouble with Emily's (my car) battery. They tested it, gave me tools so I could remove it and looked up what my options were price wise. They were out of the 2nd of the three batteries that fit my car however they did check both on the shelf and in the back where a still wrapped delivery had arrived just to make sure. I did have some trouble returning the new battery into the car as I lost two pieces while trying to look cool in front of Illiana (employee). After a thorough search involving disassembling some other components under the hood I could not find the lost pieces. Chris came out helped me find replacements in the store and even helped me finish the installation. Saw the staff repeatidly do similar things with other customers. Hope I don't have to soon but I will back here if I need parts. read more

Overall, super helpful experience. Jordan Limcauco helped us identify the problem with the battery on my boyfriends car. Once we identified it was the battery that was dead he let us use house tools to fix it. Unfortunately we also needed a jack to lift the car and Jordan let us borrow his own Jack from his car. Unfortunately on the drive home the battery light came back on so we will need to do further diagnosis of the problem but Jason was as helpful as we could have asked for and more. read more

Autozone is my battery place. I buy all my batteries here so I know where my warranty is when the battery starts to die. I rolled into Autozone at 9:20 and Rusty greeted me. I told him I needed a battery and he grabbed his voltmeter and hooked it up to my truck. Once he determined that it was the battery causing the problem he went inside and looked me up. My battery was a year out of warranty but I still qualified for a prorated credit of $78. (Yay warranty!) Rusty put the new battery in and I would've been out the door in less than 20 minutes but he noticed the thing that holds my hood up was broken. I purchased that part and he fixed that for me too at no charge. This level of service is why I come to Autozone. Thanks Rusty! read more

I've gone here numerous times in the past year for various reasons: battery; wipers; air filter; and check engine light (x2). I've been treated fairly and courteously on almost every occasion. My only gripe is that they guy who replaced my battery scoffed at my measly $8.00 tip for changing out the battery for me. He made me feel like an idiot for only having $8.00 on hand when my battery died. I felt bad for a while and I almost went and got him a larger tip, but I forgot about it. When I like to "get in the zone," I come here. Everyone is so helpful here when I show up and say something stupid like, "hi, I need those sticks that move back and forth that go on my front window." "oh you mean wiper blades?" "sure, whatever." I have a leak in my transmission, and it's easier to keep filling it up than to get it fixed. So I am at auto zone often, mainly to pick up "tranny fluid," which sounds really gross. I have to admit, that when I go to auto zone, I make it a point to fix my car in the parking lot. I like to feel cool and fit in, even in a goofy ass tutu or pigtails or whatever I'm sporting on that day. So, yes. Autozone is helpful, doesn't make me feel dumb, and they are always running sales on cool useful shit. Get in the zone! read more

So this is not my typical got to Autozone in the Austin area, however it is near my girlfriends work and since we share a car I will occasionally send her for parts. Three weeks ago we had a cylinder misfire and needed an Ignition Coil, Spark plug wires and Platinum Spark Plugs. So we spent about $150 on parts, and I usually have about 2-4 projects a year. So lets just say that holds true for the entire time I have been driving, that means that in my lifetime as a driver I have spent between $3,500 and $5,500 at Autozone Stores. I recently had a repair done on my vehicle to replace an Autozone part that failed after just under 8 months. When I took the part in to get it warrantied the "Customer Service Manager" could not find a Warranty record for the part on my or my shops account. He wrote my contact info on the box and said someone would contact me. That was Saturday 5/21 on Monday 5/23 around 2pm I called the store because no one had contacted me. I called again around 2pm on 5/24 because neither the "Customer Service Manager" or anyone else had called me. They put a manager on the phone who told me that he looked into the matter further and said that he had no way to verify that the part in the Box was a Duralast part. Also since whoever performed the transaction at Autozone did not include the warranty information there was no way he could refund my money. So I called the corporate office thinking that they would understand that there was a clerical error made and just make things right. No they give my information to a District Manager in the Austin area named Omar who proceeds to gave me the third degree and then argue with me about what type of car part I actually purchase. Even after I explained to him what happened and how it happened, he put the ball in my court forcing me to expend more of my time to find the work order to get my refund. This is the first time I have ever had to try and use the warranty plan from Autozone and it will be the last. Congratulations Autozone you have LOST a life long customer over $110 part and treating your customers like a criminal! read more

My "check engine" light turned on 2 days ago. It was steady, not flashing, indicating a problem that was not an immediate threat. After trying the usual "fix" of removing and then replacing my gas cap, and resetting the warning light (see Google searches), the light remained on. Dealer inspection costs over $135, and even "YourMechanic.com" charges $84.99, but Autozone did a quick check using their electric analyzer that plugs into the outlet below the dashboard, and said all I needed was a replacement gas cap for $14.99. I'll know in about 150 miles if the warning light turns off (they said it could take that long), but for now, I'm happy that Autozone does diagnostics for no charge. They get to sell parts when needed, and we save money -- a "win-win." read more

Thanks to Hugo at the AutoZone on N Burnet Rd. Issues aren't issues if they happen on your schedule. In my case, my battery died at my client's home Saturday night. Luckily, I got it to start one more time and this allowed me to reach AutoZone minutes before closing. The store rep, Hugo was extremely polite replacing my Duralast(under warranty) battery, getting dirty and burned a bit since my engine was hot. It's no fun having a dead battery or having to replace it minutes before your store is closing to go home yourself. So it's nice seeing a professional, polite attitude. Thanks again Hugo. read more
