Super glad I keep calling Automated Gate Services every couple years to help me out with my electric gate. It had been making strange rattling noises and randomly stopping mid-opening or mid-closing for the past week or two. I called yesterday and asked for someone to come by this afternoon to check it out for me. Palani, my technician today, called me at 11:20 saying he was in the area. I let him know that I wouldn't be home until after 1 and he said no problem he'll stop by later. Palani called and came by about 2:00. He was knowledgeable and thorough in assessing the issues, explaining them to me, and then tuning everything up so that the gate would run smoothly again. Thanks, Palani! We had to call for multiple services on the same gate, with the sensor being out of alignment. There were separate charges each time, with explanations to distract from the fact that the technician didn't solve the problem. Furthermore, the design defect of the gate itself was the issue; not any physical manipulation by any member of the community. Note that the gate is less than 1 year old at this point. We had Automated Gate recently program a master remote and 5 x remote controls. They charged 2.5 times the price of the remotes and over $150 to program the master (this takes less than 10 minutes, not including drive time -- let's call it $70 an hour). Rather than a long rant about these guys, I'm adding a couple of photos to show the failed work they did. Thankfully I called a more competent company to come out and fix it. And they like to claim I didn't pay for the first fix out of warranty. This is a complete lie. When they did the work my wife paid them. I called them and complained that the repair was shoddy and did not fix the issue. They refunded the charge on the card. Less than a year later the "repair" work failed. read more

Automated Gate Services is a company that stands by its customers. They've installed and maintained several of our gate installations, and have always done a great job. On Friday evening, I got a call from a tenant telling me that the gates weren't closing as programmed. The last time this happened, thieves walked in the next day and stole $4,000 of my tenant's property. But AGS has an emergency number, and someone answered and acted immediately. This time, it was a defective part in a new motor, so everything was covered by warrantee (extra props for honesty - thanks again!), but even when I do pay a premium for after-hours or expedited service, it's well worth it! I am not one to write reviews. As a matter of fact this will be the first one. I Just do not have the time, but as a business owner I felt the need to let everyone know how "NOT" to run a business and who not to do business with. We have used Automated Gate Services many times with each experience being worse than the next. We have used them for both our office property and personal as well. I had them come out to our house to take a look at our gates which were having some issues. The Tech was there a few minutes before I got there and spent that time reprogramming our rear gate key pad. As he was assessing what was needed for the front gates he mentioned that the gate hinges definitely were the wrong type for our application (which was never previously mentioned on any other service call) and our complete system was obsolete and should be replaced since no parts can be found any longer (system is 15 years old). But he did mention that the hinge replacement should solve the problem. So, I am waiting for an estimate and when received it was for $9,800.00 to replace the complete system and weld new hinges. Once I got this estimate, I decided enough was enough. What through me over the edge was the $316.00 credit card charge for basically 10 minutes worth of work. When they put your credit card on file they pretty much have the ball in their court. My first option was to walk this invoice into there office but with clearer thinking a nice YELP review would do much better. There are good respectable companies out there to deal with. Do not let Automated Gate Services spoil a good experience with someone else. read more

I can no longer recommend Automated Gate Services to my friends. I just had a horrible and very costly experience with them. We have used Automated Gate Services several times in the past and the repairman Daniel was fantastic. He fixed the problem every time and Megan who handled the appointment and subsequent billing was very nice and helpful as well. So this time it seemed like a no-brainer to call them for a problem we were having with our gates. I was told Daniel is no longer with the company so they sent one of the senior repairman. After spending two hours trying to find the problem he said there was nothing he could do to fix it. I was billed three-hundred dollars for his time and still have a gate that doesn't work. They did offer to replace our whole system for $7,500.00. Very disappointed!!!! read more

I've used another gate service for my ranch gate and they were good, but I thought I'd try Automated Gate since they were closer to my new home. Well their gate expert Mike came out and I had a list of items to be fixed. 1. change code 2. add a hold open feature 3. make the call button ring in the house so I know when someone is at the gate (this outstanding tech even knew about the spectrum system to utilize the proper wires to make it work clearly and effectively). 4. show me how to exit when we have a power shortage. 5. Program two new remotes. He was very professional and polite. Made the job look easy (I guess when you know what you're doing it seems easy). Any way he represents Automated Gate Services as an excellent company that will be my #1 for anything to do with automated gates. Also the prices that this company charges are fair and reasonable. I'm a home owner and have been using Automated Gate Services for many years. They are on time and have all the right equipment to fix the job. I recently had them come out to fix my gate as it was stuck open. I arrived as my gate was 80% fixed. The repair guy told me he had to change my old defective loop modual (what he doesn't know is that the modual was changed for a new one about 8 months earlier). I noticed the one door of the gate was closing/opening slower than the other and I asked him to fix that too. He said no, best to leave it alone. I asked him if he checked out my entire system and he said yes. He had the front panels taken off. He said his work was finished and when he reinstalled my front panels he bent them and forced them back on without using the lock. He said it was an old trick and I told him I didn't like the panels bent and he laughed. I told him I take off the entire housing so not to bend the panels. If he would've taken off the housing he would of noticed the real problem. One of the wires to my battery was broken. That was the cause of my problem all along. I had to call them out for a 2nd service call for the same service tech to find this. He again took off my front panels by bending them again and then took off the entire housing. I am upset because I was charged for a second service call when he should've found this on the original call. I was also charged for hours on the first call that was actually the repair guy sitting with me talking after he was finished. This is very poor customer service and in my mind their satisfaction guarantee was not met. That is why I'm giving them a single star.... read more

This company has the worst "policy" ever. They charge your card before the service man even shows up. I called to complain about this and she told me that they had "sent workers to houses and the home owners were not home"...uummmm I have made MANY appointments with contractors who have never showed up, so I would like to wait until they actually get to my house before you charge me! Then when the guy did show up (40mins after she charged my card), he did all the work in 45 mins, THEN he told me about the additional charges. He did not tell me what it was going to cost before he did it, he just told me what I owed them after it was done. I understand being stood up by homeowners sucks, since my husband has been a contractor for 30 years. But I also understand that is the price of doing business. Long story short it ended up costing me over $4 per minute to get my gate fixed...wish I would have known that before I started having a conversation with the worker. Btw, on the phone she told me it was $135 for the first hour, and when the worker was here I was told it was $135 for the first half hour. It will be interesting to see how long they stay in business with their "policies". Ok, I don't know how to reply to their response, so I'm just adding to my original post: First of all...stop lying!!! I was told it was per hour and I agreed to that. I did not agree to your policy this morning I told you that I would dispute the charge with American Express if your technician did not show up. At no time did I tell you I agreed to your policy. And I NEVER said "I was happy with the completed work" So DO NOT QUOTE ME! I said it was fine, which it was. No offense but the technician was not performing brain surgery, he was making an adjustment to a gate and I do not believe it is his fault for the way your company is run. In fact, he told me he did not know what was "going on in the office" and he said he was going to talk to his boss about it. I told him I spoke with you this morning and that you really didn't care and he said he was going to mention it to his "boss's boss". I find it funny how it is all MY misunderstanding and MY acceptance of your policies, although when you called me this afternoon, you wanted to refund me the money you over charged me. I don't like to leave negative reviews but I not only had a terrible experience with this company, my experience was similar to two other negative reviews on Yelp for this company. They sent a very young technician to fix my gate after pre-billing me a huge amount which I believe was $175. He proceeded to tell me how old and outdated my gate was and how he couldn't do anything for it but change the batteries. He changed the batteries and then I found out they had charged me for more than a 30 minute call, I think it was another $40, even though he just spent the time trying to impress me with how old my gate was and how their warranty works. Told me numerous times to call immediately if I had problems because the warranty was only good for 90 days. Well, as it turned out, my gate, which had just been moving slowly before I called for service, stopped working entirely a few days after the service. I called immediately and asked them to come out since I had been warned about the warranty period. The woman assured me--on the phone without seeing my gate--that it would definitely not be under warranty and that I would have to pay another $175. I was astonished and asked how she could possibly be sure without even knowing what the problem was that it was not under warranty. She was adamant that they would not return without the additional $175. I refused and she "fired" me as a customer, just like another reviewer reported. I would not deal with them again under any circumstances whatsoever. UPDATE: When I eventually got a friend who knows about these things to look at my gate, believe it or not, the only thing wrong with it was a BLOWN FUSE. I am not kidding. My gate works fine now. Unfortunately, my opinion of this business is now even lower. Their technician was arrogant, ignorant and untruthful. read more
