We purchased or home before it was built. Our builder installed wooden side gate was already repaired once and now was sagging, warping and just getting old. It was time to replace it with something sturdier and less likely to warp, shrink, fade. I did a lot of research on what materilas would best hold up to the brutal So Cal summers we have. I also had to keep within the Architectural guidelines of our HOA for fences. I found a company in Orange, CA, called SoCal Gates. I established contact with the owner, Ray, who is a really knowledgeable and personable guy to work with. We scheduled an appointment for him to come to our home to show us color samples of the composite material we would choose for him to use in our steel framed gate. Ray arrived, and had us look at the different colored composite samples while he took his measurements. He then went over with us the color choices and which ones would intergrate best with our home's exterior colors, including the tiled roof and front entry door and garage door. He explained how he visualized the gate would look, once mounted. We agreed on the materials and and the price. He mentioned that his installation pricing included the removal of the gate from the cinder block wall it was attached to, but did not include the removal of the old fence post or the haul away fo the old fence. After hiring another fence company to remove the fence post, back fill with concrete and haul away all of the old fence, Ray told he would've done it had I specifically asked him, for an extra charge. In fact, he told me how to remove the old post myself, so that gave me the impression he would prefer to just to install the gate with the old fence gone and the area prepped for his installation. After the HOA approved my gate plan, It only took a few weeks for Ray to build our gate and to schedule a date and time for the installation. On the day of the installation, I watched Ray assemble and install my agte, He is meticulous and thoughtful throughout his installation process. He showed me how to change out the composite planks if I ever needed to, and how to program our electronic lockest. We are very happy with out new sturdy, side gate. Ray fabricated custom gates for us approx 4.5 years ago and we love them! I reached out to him regarding restraining the wood slats, which have weathered over the years, and he informed me he now uses a composite material for the slats. He removed the old wood slats and replaced them with composite and I love my gates even more now. The composite material is maintenance free and should last a lifetime without needing to be re-stained. Ray also replaced the slats in one day, from measuring to installation. read more

Ray is a nice guy and I'm sure his gates are probably okay, but his business practices should be better. Gave me a quote over text after I sent him pictures. Shows up and tells me "oh it's going to be way more" , well maybe don't give an estimate with just pictures without measuring.. my original estimate went up an extra 3k. About two years after my gate was first installed, the closer bracket stopped working correctly. Ray returned and replaced the bracket at no charge! He also noticed the hamper was damaged, and within a few days, he removed, rewelded, and repainted that part of the gate. We had vinyl gates in our RV parking that just got blown right off their hinges by the Santa Ana winds that wiped out Altadena and Palisades. I knew I definitely needed something more sturdy for the future. I called So Cal Gates and two other vendors for bids. Manny came out and brought sample materials that he uses so I can make a more informed choice for a set of gates that would hold up to the wind. I was impressed with the quality of the materials used. I opted for having the gates Zinc sprayed and powder coated so I would not have to be out there painting every couple of years. This wasn't my cheapest bid but his reviews here on Yelp and being able to feel the materials were a huge factor moving me forward to choosing So Cal Gates to do this job. He also has other features like self closing, lock box for your convenience and other options that really didn't fit what I was trying to accomplish. It takes about two to three weeks when leaving a deposit for your gates to be made and for him to contact you for an installation date and time. They arrived in about two and a half weeks, on time, and finished the installation in a couple of hours. My walls and pilasters were not exactly made to line up by the builder so Manny had to put in the extra effort to get the gates lined up correctly. The gates came out very nice and will serve their purpose. I paid about $6000 for the two gates that it took to cover my RV parking, the other bids I got were close to the same with little difference in price but the Yelp reviews and seeing the materials to be used left the stress out of using a contractor for the first time hoping you won't get ripped off. It was a Friday night and we found ourselves trapped behind our automatic security gate. After trouble shooting what we could, we ended up calling just about every business we could on Yelp to get some support and leaving messages everywhere. Within just a few minutes SoCal gates texted us back and started to walk us through fixing our gate opener- this was even before we paid anything. They simply wanted to help.
