We searched and searched for a reputable company to build two gates for our property. It wasn't until one of my neighbors referred Garden Passages to us that we stopped our search. They were professional from the start to finish. Great communication, pleasurable experience at measurement, and the installer (I might add had to do his work amongst three other contractors.) did it with grace and extreme craftsmanship. Even after the fact when I needed some additional materials for surrounding wood posts they were there for me. If you need a gate in Southern California, this is the company you have to call. read more

Outstanding - definitely 5 BIG stars. We discovered GP through a neighbor who purchased 2 of their gates several years ago. He was very pleased and would purchase them again. It is definitely a family business. David met us at the workroom, walked us through the process and endless options, helped us design our gates and provided a quote. Dave "Dad" came to the house to measure and finalize color and details. Christine handled all of the back office tasks, scheduling and on-going communication. Installation was executed perfectly by one GP's recommended installers (Terry). It was seamless from end-to-end. They are "statement" gates, definitely an investment, high quality and the perfect addition to our new 6 foot cut-face block walls. We love them - beautiful and functional. read more

I found Garden Passages through the internet while looking for new gates for my recently built Block Wall Privacy Fence. I was looking for well built and durable fence gates and I really liked the various unique designs shown on their website. The process takes a little time and planning, but if you are looking for a well constructed gate with a unique design then these guys are it!!!! The process started with a meeting with David Sr at the Garden Passages office to chose a gate design, stain, hardware, and initial measurements. I ordered two Tuscan style gates from Garden Passages and they were recently installed. I received exactly what I expected and I am extremely satisfied with the final product including the install by "Super Installer" Terry Busac they sent to install them. From start to finish working with Dave Sr on design, Dave Jr and Terry Busac on install, and Susan, and Christine the support staff everyone was very pleasant, efficient, and professional. Their communication was great throughout the process. They were seemless in all communications in each part of the process. I even made a last minute change during the install and they got it done without any problems. I highly recommend Garden Passage for your gate needs. read more

I wish I had the option to leave a 10 star review. This family owned business has exceeded my expectation. Starting with the Customer Service and can do attitude, they welcomed me in with an appointment where I sat down and went designed the gate exactly how I wanted it. Down to the color hardware and color wood stain. After a short production time, the gate was ready! All the staff were very friendly and full of helpful information. I always felt included with what was going on which made this gate buying experience very enjoyable. Thank you read more

We needed to replace the original backyard gate in our San Clemente home that was built almost 20 years ago. I called and emailed many different businesses with no success. When I reached out to Garden Passages, it was a wonderful experience from the start. Staff communicated clearly and quickly regarding options, cost, and timing. The appointments to measure and install the gate were timely kept. Customer service from everyone in this family owned business was phenomenal. And, above it all, Garden Passages built a brand new, high-quality, beautiful custom gate to match our home's existing front door. If you need a custom gate made, don't hesitate to reach out to Garden Passages! Highly recommended! read more

Excellent company! David Jr is knowledgeable, Kind, and reasonable. My gate is gorgeous!!

I can't say enough about my super custom gates. I now have three after the initial entry gate was installed over ten years ago. This family business is delightful to work with and they stand by their work. Despite the cost of materials increasing dramatically, including wood, my gates add value to my home and were reasonably priced. From design to installation, the Daves and the entire team aim to please and do. Reach out to Garden Passages now! read more

We needed a new gate for our new house. I sent out 3 price quote requests through Yelp. The two other companies got back to me very quickly, but with just a number, nothing else. But when David Jr got back to me, he had a design of the gate and an itemized quote for me. He even invited me to stop by to check out their showroom. Although Garden Passages' location is the farthest ftom my house among the 3 companies, I still decided to pay them a visit. I was completely sold after I met with David Jr. and see their work. David Sr. is just as professional and helpful as David Jr. When he came out to do the measurements, he showed up on time and helped me select the color of the gate. He even gave me some suggestions on our landscaping work, which is well appreciated. Since we needed the gate in a hurry, David Jr. put a rush order for us and it was done two weeks sooner than we anticipated. Terry, the installer is just as awesome. He worked 5 hours straight on installing the gate, and did an outstanding job. What a great team! If you ever need a gate, Garden Passages is your choice, you will not regret. Trust me!!! read more

My husband and I are so grateful for finding Garden Passages! We had received an estimate from them last August, and decided to go with another (cheaper!) bid for 2 exterior gates with attached panels. We had the cheaper gates & panels installed and after one rain & wind storm, they were a mess. They had swollen, and the wind had battered them to the point that they didn't close properly. This was only one month after they were installed for $2,500 - they looked terrible. That was basically money we threw away, because we decided in March to call Garden Passages back and have them take out the monstrosities that had been installed, and put in their product. David Sr came out to Orange Park Acres to measure, David Jr did the design, and we had gorgeous, custom gates and panels made and installed within 3 weeks! The installer Terry was masterful....and a perfectionist, which we totally appreciate. Also, after reading a negative review about Susan, I have to give a shout-out to her. She was always kind and professional on the phone.....really delightful, actually. I cannot recommend Garden Passages enough....the people are true professionals, the gates are gorgeous and they work perfectly, precision crafted, and lovingly installed! It was more than we had planned to spend, but in the end - so WORTH IT! read more

This review is actually about 16 years overdue. In 2007, we totally remodeled our swimming pool, hardscape and landscape and we were fortunate to have found Garden Passages to provide four new custom gates and acpool equipment enclosure. The center post on the equipment enclosure finally became loose at the base and I called Garden Passages to see if they could help me out. The following week, the owner David came out to survey the problem. He advised he'd be sending out his installers to fix the issue. Our gates, 16 years old, all look like they were installed yesterday and I couldn't give this business a stronger recommendation. read more

I had three gates make from Garden Passages. About 4 years after installation they needed to be replaced. They had been refinished twice in the four year time span to protect the would and restore the appearance. The wood is splintering and all the screws used were just drywall screws and have stripped out. The frosted glass inserts should have been sandwiched between two pieces of glass instead of with the frosting on the surface because if you touch it with any cleaning product mild or otherwise, it takes the frosting off of the glass. The gates were a very poor decision on my part and now need to be replaced. They did look nice for about 6 months but after that started to deteriorate. read more

We had been needing a gate for sometime, we also had an idea of what we were looking for, we just could not seem to find anything local. I found Garden passages on Pinterest and then reached out to them via email. Unfortunately they didn't service our area but did offer that if we were "diy people" that they would be able to make the a gate in raw form and we could stain and install ourselves.. so that's what we did.. we sent a picture of what we were looking for and all dimensions. A few weeks later we drove down to Huntington Beach and picked up our gate. Garden passages supplied everything we needed to install. I am incredibly happy with how it turned out and would recommend them to all! Thanks guys!! We love our gate! read more

Grade: A+ Love our gate! Excellent craftsmanship and quality. Installed with the greatest care. Dave and his company came highly recommended by neighbors. Dave was on time for our first consultation and showed me his portfolio (images of gates, samples, etc). I selected a few wooden gates with grills and claves to show my husband and family. We told him we'd like to order through them and on our 2nd consultation, Dave finalized the details and sketched our gate for us. We were all excited as the gates in our neighborhood look fantastic, so we were confident they would deliver. And they definitely delivered! I wasn't here for the installation, but my husband raved about the gate and said it looked awesome. He also commented that Sean, the installer, did an excellent job. They also installed some small touches that set them apart (e.g., door stoppers, protective studs). When I got home, the gate was more beautiful than I imagined. Perfectly crafted and stained. Worth the price! The gates seem to run about $900-$1500, approximately, depending on the thickness, grills, handles, etc. Installation was a separate charge of $185. Dave said it would take about 5 weeks but he was able to move up production and we received the gate in about 2 weeks. The gates on their websites do not do them justice (hope they update their site with additional photos!). Highly recommend Garden Passages, and could not be happier with the final product and service! read more

Short and sweet I ordered a gate from Dave ( the dad ) he gave me a great tour of the business and showed me how each gate is made custom to my specifications. Gave me a hundred choices and would even customized it further from that point. Multiple choice of wood, stains, hardware and sizes. Super nice people in a family business. Very reasonable prices. They have me a six to eight week turnaround time. It came in six weeks The installer was very meticulous and he gate was hung perfect. I can't say enough good things about these guys. read more

Noticed a few neighbors upgrading their front gates -- a defining element of a home. When I asked who they'd used for their gates they all kept saying Garden Passages. I called for an appointment and was accommodated quickly. From the receptionist to Dave, the designer, the process was straight forward and they were helpful and not pushy. The process was clearly defined and they were true to the timeline. By the time Dave Sr. came to do the final measurements, the excitement began to build. I can't say enough positive things about my experience ordering three custom gates from the family owned Garden Passages. Originally I planned to hire a carpenter to build the gates but that went nowhere fast. Then I yelped 'gates' and found these guys and they were awesome. I met at their office in Huntington Beach initially to go over my ideas. They gave me some great suggestions and a price at the first meeting. Later they came out to measure and match color stains and shortly after the gates were professionally installed perfectly. I thrilled with how great everything was handled and with their quality workmanship, definitely five stars! read more

Overall, the quality and look of the gate is excellent. The 2 stars has to do with the disconnect between staff. What I was told at the time of the on site quote by Dave Sr. turned out to be not true according to Dave Jr. So after a few calls to try to clear things up, I scrambled to rent a concrete saw ($105 at Home Depot) and cut the wall that night. This unnecessary expense could have been avoided if I was given advanced warning so I could borrow my friends. But to avoid delays, I did it. Then, Friday came and went, no final measurement. Then the holiday weekend came, more delays. Then emails, no answer. Finally 7 days later I get a call. There was an apology, which was appreciated. There was a promise of an "upgrade in the wood thickness," which was appreciated. There was a promise to not delay the original installation date, which was appreciated. The installer came when I was at work and very nicely installed the "NON-upgraded" gate. Since then, the gate has worked well and looks good. And.... I've never heard from them again. I guess it might be awkward if I run into my neighbor after all of this.... read more
