He constantly monitors people waiting outside to ensure they are organized and not blocking the neighbors entrances which he assures people was due to the neighbors complaints. He politely asks what country or place you're from , your party size and speaks English well. Multiple people tried to come inside, look at the menu or cut ahead and mess up his flow. Chef Leopardo was not having it and politely asked if he can help them as he guided them outside and in to the line. By the way, take out orders or dine in, same line. 2) Like an air traffic controller, he guides you inside, points out the menu on the wall, asks if you have any questions then tells you where you will be sitting inside due to space and limited indoor seating. He then directs you to the cashier where you place your order and pay for your food. You don't have to order dessert right away. After that, you take your seats at a table or along the wall on stools and wait for your number to be called. It's not a one man show and the staff are wonderfully polite. I noticed they spoke Italian, English and Spanish. 3) We ordered Fettuccine with Bolognese meat sauce (beef and pork mixed). It took awhile to come out and the numbers were out of sequence but it came out hot and yummy. Both of us loved it. He came around and noticed we didn't eat these small dark balls we assumed were peppercorn. He advised us it was Juniper berries. I ate mine and noticed it complimented the tomato sauce very well. 4) Finally, dessert. Only two choices, tiramisu and tortino caprese (dark chocolate cake). Both were great and very shareable. Ambiance (4/5): Open Baladin looks a lot different than your typical Roman establishment. Bright colors, quirky decor, and a beautiful bar area are some of the highlights here. We sat at a table as we wanted to avoid the bar stools (no back support so I've never been a fan). Service (3/5): Typical Italian service. Not terribly attentive or friendly but gets the job done. We had to track down our waiter once or twice to order a beer and close out but that's standard fare in Europe. Food (3/5): My partner in crime had a burger while I had a sandwich with proscuitto and cheese. Pretty much your typical Italian sandwich. Fresh and adequate. Though a bit overpriced. Drinks (4.5/5): This is the highlight. Open Baladin has a fantastic selection of beers including those that I would qualify outside of your typical run-of-the-mill. They have a Belgian beer section of the menu which is always an indication that a bar takes their beer seriously. And most interestingly, for me, they have grape beer . . . say what?! I had never heard of it either. Beer made with grapes, that's a first. While it's not something I would order often, I very much enjoyed trying something new and unique like this. And here I thought grapes were just used to make wine! If you're looking for a cool spot to grab a brew, with a fantastic beer list, and a different vibe than your typical Italian bar, make sure to check them out!
