When I arrived, he was actually near the front, seating guests, serving food, and making coffee. The interior is very cute - I love the Christmas lights and letters over the bar. The fare is simple, fresh, organic, and affordable. They offer a prix-fixe menu for something like 9 euros which includes a side (which varies daily), a salad, and a choice of one of three main dishes. Both the side and salad are vegan, but the three mains include a vegan, vegetarian, and meat option. Overall, I'd recommend it, if you're visiting the area.

Having a small buffet means that jf it's crowded it can take longer to get the food that you want (because someone else is blocking you) or people become impatient and jump the line to weigh their food as there is no arrow pointing which direction to go around the buffet to get in line to weigh your food. I thought the food was good but not great enough to return back for more. The seating is communal meaning that you will have to share with others. I didn't really like that concept but it didn't take away from my experience. Ensuring that your parties are not mixed with others, waiters take your drink order and then provide you with a receipt. Along with this receipt you'll take one form the buffet after weighing your food. At the end of your meal, you'll need both receipts to pay for your food at the cashier register before exciting. Customer service was good could be better, they just all seemed to be in a rush (around 1:30-2:30 pm).

On a Friday around 1pm, right after we sat down, the restaurant sudden filled up with additional customers to about three-quarters full. Approximately two dozen seats inside and another dozen street side tables outside. Inside it's got a mom and pop traditional restaurant feel--a handful of two and four tops, a drinks fridge/wine chiller, a small corner bar, with medium-toned wooden tables and chairs. We checked in with the staff inside and they gave us the option to sit in or outside, we chose outdoors. Menus are scanned via QR code and if I recall correctly they have mostly Italian with some English. We ordered: - seasonal artichoke and vegan bacon pizza €16: first of all, the scale isn't obvious from my photo--it was a 12 inch pizza, for an individual pie--HUGE! Glad I saw the table over receiving their pizza first so I didn't make the big mistake of ordering more than one. Flavor--the artichoke, cheese and crust were a great combo, and the plant-based cheese stood out as one of the most strikingly similar cheesy textures out there. The bacon was visually and texturally dissimilar to the real thing, it looked dry though wasn't, and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't bacon. At least they hit one out of two on this pizza. It was a satisfying pie. - ratatouille €6: which ended up being sautéed beans, peas and asparagus. If there is one thing I noticed eating at a few different Italian restaurants in Italy--they overcook their vegetables, and this was on trend, a tad over, though still edible. The flavor was good but needed to tone down the salt a notch. Food arrived in about 15 minutes, the pizza was hot and crisp at the crust. Staff was friendly and checked in once during the meal. I especially wanted to love this tiny place set off of restaurant lined Via della Lungaretta in Trastavere as the signage touted "cruelty free" and there is not a plethora of vegan restaurants in Rome. The sandwiches pictured on the menu appeared appetizing, although most featured fake meat which should have been the first indication that I was about to be disappointed. I ordered the focaccia vegan, and on the recommendation of the only employee on duty during the busy lunch rush, my mom ordered the vegan burger and my dad ordered the vebab. The customer ahead of us had placed a very large order so we had to wait about 30 minutes for our food at a place touted as "fast food". Each sandwich came with a salad of lettuce and tomatoes, which was fresh and nice but nothing special, as well as a side of some unidentifiable potato concoction that resembled fingers and, maybe this is the American in me, was in serious need of ketchup. When our food was finally ready, I was so thankful I had saved the majority of my water bottle, as my sandwich was almost completely bread with a tiny slice of frittata in the middle. The bread had been previously frozen (I was looking at it in the freezer in front of my seat) and was therefore very dry and I could literally only choke down about half of it (I only ate that much because at this point I was starving). My parents had similar experiences, and my dad's fake kebab meat had a very strange flavor. The adorable couple from Hamburg, Germany who arrived after us summed it up quite eloquently and politely by saying "um... We have had better!". One star for the very sweet service from the woman working there all by herself, and also for the baby who kept waving and laughing at me.

Inside is very small and 2 people were already occupying the only seats, so I ate on a bench just down the street. Wow, this sandwich was so good! The sauteed kale, marinated mushrooms, fresh greens, roasted red peppers and their mock meat came together fantastically. The bread was so soft and not at all chewy. Perfection. It kept me full for hours. I would 10/10 eat this again any day.

During our previous visits, we had excellent experiences with both the food and the customer service, which is why tonight's experience was especially disappointing. We ordered the carbonara and spaghetti, and unfortunately, the pasta was undercooked, very chewy, and cold. It was not at all the quality we had experienced during our previous visits. When we asked the waiter to take the carbonara back because it was not edible, his attitude was extremely disappointing. Rather than offering to replace the dish or addressing our concern professionally, he told us that the manager had approved it and that we could simply take the food home. What made the experience even worse was the atmosphere of this location. The restaurant felt more like a factory than an authentic Italian dining experience. We noticed the staff using walkie-talkies to communicate with the host, and as soon as customers left their tables, the waiter would communicate with the host to immediately send new customers in to fill the space. It gave us the impression that the priority was turning tables over as quickly as possible rather than providing guests with a pleasant dining experience. The constant rush was noticeable and took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal in Rome. It is very unfortunate because we have visited Osteria da Fortunata several times in the past and genuinely enjoyed both the food and the service. Tonight, however, the cold and poorly cooked pasta, the attitude of the waiter, and the rushed, factory-like atmosphere made this a very disappointing experience.
