My 1992 Honda Civic VX had developed an annoying squeak/rattle in the back that I had no idea what was causing it. I listened carefully to pinpoint, plus lubricated the entire rear hatch seal with Honda Shin-ETSU silicone grease, but no luck. Finally it was time to take my car to a body shop to see if a pro could fix the squeak. I asked my good car service shop, Foreign Affair, for their recommendation, and Tim there recommended Autobahn Body & Paint in Mountain View. Peter at Autobahn was the squeak/rattle expert, and on my visit there he drove the car on a short loop over a bumpy street so he could hear the noise. Then back at the shop's parking lot, he thumped and bounced and shook the car trying to poinpoint the sound. Nothing. Then over the next several days he coached me on places to lubricate the car -- hinges and latches and what kind of oil/lube to use. One at a time, in order, so we'd KNOW which spot fixed the noise. Bingo! Spot three was the winner! The noise was coming from the center latch and hook between the bottom of the rear window and the top of the tailgate. Lubricating that latch with lithium grease quieted the car, so wonderful to have that annoying, loud squeak/rattle finally gone! I really appreciate Peter's experience and methodical approach to diagnose this VERY difficult to find noise! I recommend Autobahn Body & Paint to anyone with a mysterious car body sound that is driving them crazy. Hi! I just wanted to share my experience with you that I had with Autobahn Collision Repair in Mountain View. They are on your list of recommended repair shops and are so being supposed to work directly with State Farm regarding claims. I called to get an estimate and had to wait a week and a half before I could get an appointment. That appointment was only for the estimate. I would be required to come again to Autobahn if I chose to have them do the repairs. I received an email from Autobahn with the estimate, and I had assumed since they knew it was an insurance claim, that they would send the estimate to State Farm. After one week I decided to follow up with State Farm who explained that they had not received an estimate from Autobahn and that State Farm had indeed sent an email to them with a link that they could submit the estimate for repair. So I called Autobahn and explained that State Farm had not yet received the estimate. The gentleman I spoke to said, "No. You have to sign the approval for the estimate." To which I replied that no, since it is an insurance claim, he needs to submit the estimate to State Farm. "He became angry and said, NO! I don't have to call them! They have to call me!" To which I said I will find a different repair shop to which he replied in the same unkind, un-polite manner, "Fine with me!" I have always had excellent service from State Farm since I have been insured with them for 50+ years. In my opinion, Autobahn motors should not be on recommended list for repairs. read more

Brought my car in to get the rear bumper repaired after being rearended on a hill in San Francisco. The damage to my car was only artificial (paint was scraped off) but it can be surprisingly hard to find a good place for paint repair. Peter was extremely helpful in the process of what I needed to do and what he needed from me. He was also very quick with the paperwork!!! A neighbor brushed along the front of our car and didn't want to go through insurance. I got two quotes with Autobahn being significantly cheaper. The first body shop wanted to keep the car for eight days but Peter said they could do it in four days. I dropped the car in first thing Monday and to my surprise, I got a call Wednesday lunchtime to say drop by anytime after 4pm that day to collect the car. They guys did a fantastic job with the body work and were very kind to clean the car inside and out. I could not recommend them highly enough. On recommendation from a friend, I took my 2015 M3 to Autobahn to replace and repaint the rear bumper due to an accident and to refinish the front bumper due to rock chips. Peter and the team went above and beyond to repair my vehicle. My WRX was involved in a hit and run while it was parked. I had my bumper and headlights replaced at Autobahn and it was a pain free experience. I'm extremely picky with who I leave my car with and Peter made me feel right at home. I left my car there on 1/16/2018 and received my car 1/24/2018, they even vaccuumed the inside and cleaned the outside. I wanted to give this place a try based on the excellent reviews on yelp. I guess sometimes these reviews can be misleading. My experience with the owner here was completely contrary to what the reviews will make you believe. The customer service, or rather lack there of was extremely surprising. Rude, inconsiderate and dismissive are some of the adjectives that I can use if I am trying to be polite. I would like to point out that you can excuse the lack of customer service if the owner/workers are honest. However, I was lied to over the phone about quote appointment and estimated time it would take to get the car fixed. The owner flat out denied things he had said over the phone and went back on his word completely. Going as far as saying "I don't know what I say over the phone". How can you trust this business with your car when they can't even stay honest with the appointment timings etc. Steer clear (no pun intended). read more

Unfortunately, the other car backed into the left front corner of our car, so just a low-speed tap caused damage to bumper, fender, hood, and headlight assembly. Good points: Autobahn handled the insurance. They returned the car looking like new - quality workmanship. They use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts. They were courteous and professional throughout. Bad point: There is a pole in front of their building that looks like it would be easy to hit if it wasn't noticed, so beware the pole when parking/leaving. read more

What a lovely experience! I never knew going to a mechanic could be lovely. I got rear ended, my insurance company sent me a link to a couple places. I chose this one only because it was close to my house. The insurance company set up my claim and rental car. I walked in and Peter was so calm and kind and got back to me with an estimate, timing etc. He said I could drop off the car on a Sunday so they could work on it Monday morning. I got multiple estimates from different auto shops for the repair of my back bumper from an accident. I decided on Autobahn because it's the only auto shop that offered to replace my bumper with a brand new bumper and they had great Yelp reviews. I also appreciate them for contacting the other party's insurance company on my behalf to ask for the additional money that was beyond what the insurance company paid me, which was the cheapest estimate. This meant that I didn't have to pay a penny extra. The other nice thing they did was paint an old scrape on the left side of my door for free without me asking. The new bumper and new paint on the scrape look fantastic! They are wonderful to work with, especially Peter and his office assistant. They finished on time as promised and their work is superb! I found Autobahn through my insurance after a minor accident. I was AMAZED by the quality of the work and the service. Now, I'm no idiot when it comes to cars and I'm lucky enough to be with a guy who does know quite a lot, so he handles all the technical stuff. Peter called me the morning after the accident and helped me arrange to get my car towed from the storage lot to his shop. He then got an estimate to me by the end of the day and did a wonderful job taking lots of time and explaining all the damage and how he'd fix it. Peter was very aware of the insurance process and the limits that insurance would pay for and made SURE we'd be under it without sacrificing quality. He worked hard to find reconditioned parts and went to the mat to replace parts that " might not look damaged but could compromise safety in the future." The car was ready two days earlier than the estimate, and everything looked GREAT!! Peter also did a wonderful job sitting down with us and illustrating ALL the parts replaced and their function. He also found a problem that a previous shop had caused and wrote up a report so I could go back to them and get them to fix it. Got rear-ended (on Easter Sunday morning, no less!) and the insurance company of the gent who slammed into me suggested a list of possible repair shops. I researched the Yelp feedback for all, and picked Autobahn based on their 100 percent customer satisfaction rating. I am happy to report that, for once, Yelp was right--and pleased to add yet another 5-star rating. From the moment I brought the car in for an estimate, I was impressed by the friendliness and professionalism of Mr. Joslin. He even called up the car rental company to pick me up after I dropped the car! Throughout the repair process, Mr. Joslin emailed me periodic updates, and dealt with the insurance company on my behalf, ensuring that the paperwork was in good order. He was knowledgeable, reassuring, and correct every step of the way. When I picked up my vehicle a week later, I squealed in delight! Besides the repairs to the damaged area, the entire body had been cleaned and buffed. My 9-year-old car was gleaming, as if it had just rolled off the assembly line. The only good thing that can happen to your car after an auto accident is the bodyshop be able to restore it as good as new. Authobahn did it on my 2010 Accord. On top of that, their service was impeccable. Peter has done an excellent job starting from estimate to delivery. It was absolutely hassle free, and the quality of workmanship was superb. I especially appreciate Peter's diligence and attention to detail when he worked on the estimate. He crawled under the car to take pictures and found the rear reinforcement bar was bent and needed to be replaced. In another bodyshop, the guy just gave a standard answer instead, "We need to take it apart before letting you know if it needs to be replaced."
