In February 2020 I came to Phil with a basic build for a 1995 Miata turbo engine. It required basic…read moremachining like line honing and boring the cylinders for oversized pistons and a head skim. Throughout the process Phil caused numerous delays, lost parts, and let the work drag on. It was nearly 6 months, in August 2020, before Phil returned the completed longblock to me. While running low boost during break in, a freeze plug popped out. My tuner and I suspected that the head had lifted due to improper installation, in which Phil was paid to do. This would allow compression to get into the coolant cavities and force that plug out. Phil was accommodating and replaced the plug. However, when the plug was replaced the motor had low compression so I specifically asked Phil to test the head. He never tested the compression but "fixed the compression issues" (at my expense) and gave the car back saying the compression was good. He and his partner mechanic claimed the compression was off due to the timing belt being two whole teeth off! Two days after driving the car again, another freeze plug popped out. The car went back into their care and custody in which they decided to blame the tune that the car has been running absolutely fine on throughout its whole life before that engine was built and during. Phil and his mechanic claimed this tune destroyed my engine and I would have to source a whole new block! Subsequent diagnoses by a separate, trusted, machine shop and tuner proved that the gasket blew between all cylinders and into the coolant cavities. There was absolutely no detonation or any potential tune related issues. The trusted shop has examined the head and stated "all valves are leaking and have sealing issues. This could be due to a lack of proper valve guide issues or other valve concerns. The cylinder head is already well below minimum thickness before any additional machine operations were begun." Phil machined, assembled and installed this head and was specifically told it came off an engine that had overheated so we needed to make sure it didn't get skimmed too much. The piston rings were not properly gapped causing the rings to buckle and melt the pistons. The oil squirters were not installed correctly and were found in the oil pan. This was all discovered by a different shop. His neglect and inability to work with his customers caused over a year of wasted time. His lack of craftsmanship and inability to take accountability for his work has left me with an inoperative and expensive engine that has never run correctly since he rebuilt it. He was so concerned with his dog more then work he never verified I needed one box or two. But if your the owner you would think you would know your product. So when I opened one of the boxes I noticed there were two cabin filters in it. Which is actually also a question I asked on the phone that day when I placed the order and he still told me there was just one per box. Mind me these are BMW cabin filters so they are not cheap. So when I called today 8/9/2025 to ask if I could return one because they sold me the wrong amount and made me over pay for something he was very none willing to help and very rude as hell about it and this is the owner. The OWNER of the company said he cant do anything about refunding my order. I just wanted a refund for the extra one THEY messed up and sold me. But some how the OWNER doesn't have the power to issue that refund because under 30 days is too long??? My Audi was serviced on 6/1/22 for a power steering pump, suction pipe and belt replacement. 12…read moredays later the belt snapped and was left inoperable. After speaking with Marcus, he mentioned that due to the pandemic, it was hard on the business and he has let go of all of his mechanics since. I'm not sure if it was because they were not also qualified, but it did seem to raise some concern, due to the quality of work done on my Audi. Call after call, he gives me no indication that he is willing to help my situation. I had my car towed to a shop at my OWN expense, and had another mechanic diagnose the damages. He mentioned the following: The serpentine belt snapped and needs to be replaced, along with the tensioner, intake manifold (flap is broken). It will need a compression test and diagnosis (timing has jumped). I went out of my way to get this diagnosis from another shop, since Marcus said he was not able to. At this point I'm very frustrated and had my car towed to my house. It has been sitting in my garage, inoperable to this very day, which is over a year now. I've emailed Marcus and his website about my findings, and have heard not a single word or how to make things right. As I read some of these posts on here, which are pretty recent. I'm beyond frustrated that customers are coming to you and having work done on their cars. Not only does that imply that you have mechanics employed, but deliberately ignoring my situation. Basically, I just want a shop to do the right thing. I paid for a service, the service failed. The invoice does in fact state it covers 2 years in warranty. They found some other maintenance work I needed so I chose to do some other services as we couldn't figure out exactly where the other noise was coming from. I took the car home and the other noise came on again on the freeway so I recorded it and emailed it to them. I dropped my car off the next day and also spoke to the owner Tony who is a great person. He was very patient, calm and ended up finding out what the issue was, and got it all fixed for me. It was nice to work with Daniel, the Service Manager, and Tony, the Owner and help find out exactly what was going on with my car. I really appreciate their customer service and honesty. Daniel was very helpful and clear in communication. I was happy to talk to the business owner Tony who was very kind, patient, understanding, honest and I love the fact he was willing to take time to have a conversation and get to know each other as people. I like getting to know the actual business owner so I know who we're supporting in business. And Tony and team have definitely earned our business. While the dealership claimed my radiator and hoses were failing, The Garage actually tested them and proved they were in perfect health. Instead of guessing, they performed a resistance test and found the real culprit: a faulty VVT Oil Control Valve. It is rare to find a shop with this much integrity.
