I brought my car in for an oil change, vehicle inspection, and to see why my check engine light had turned on. I called at around 8:30 am and was able to get a slot at 9:30 am the same day. I asked for quotes over the phone, and they honored those prices when I brought my car in. The guy at the front was very welcoming when I showed up, and the person who actually helped me was really patient with me and all my questions. This may be specific to my case, but I hate when car shops talk to me like I'm stupid because of my lack of knowledge of cars, so I really appreciated how well everything was explained to me and how they weren't judgmental of my questions and decisions. Overall I paid $300 for oil change, vehicle inspection, and fixing the sway bar end link. He also determined that my check engine light had turned on because I need a new gas cap, didn't charge me for the testing, and advised me on how to order one myself. The parts were reasonable and the repair was done quick. They also quoted me an amount MUCH lower than the amount I paid for when I picked up the car. I called to make an appointment and they confirmed that I was coming in for a simple oil change. We also confirmed my car's make and model. However, when I showed up for my appointment , they checked that I was there for the oil change then told me that they didn't have the right filter and rescheduled for a week later. Today I went to get my car serviced at SF Toyota with my extended warranty and I was told that I needed new tires, (correct) had to replace my filters, had very dirty break fluid and my throttle body intake needed to be replaced. First of all, I was already getting a quote at Costco for my tires for half the price and yes I got Bridgestones...since I had some time before my appointment at Costco I dropped by Auto Stop and met Harrison, I showed him my diagnostic sheet and he said my filters were barely dirty and he tested my break fluid. I brought my truck in to get a CEL cleared .After they performed some test and diagnostics, they replaced some parts and still weren't able to figure out what was causing the CEL. So they told me they don't have the time or man power to fix the problem, you'll have to leave the car with us for days or weeks or I can try another shop. So after paying a couple hundred bucks for the work order, that's basically what I did. The shop I brought it to took only but 3 hours to figure out what the issue was and I got my truck in the same day with the CEL cleared. If you only need a basic oil change, air filter replacement or tires rotated or plugged, then yeah bring it to these guys but anything more intricate, go elsewhere. read more

My girlfriend took her minivan in for an oil change and upon leaving the establishment there was a strange rattling noise coming from the engine. When she asked him what it was he told her to make an appointment and refused to look at the car. We both eventually went back to schedule the appointment in which he wanted nothing to do with us and pretended to be on the phone for about 15 minutes. Harrison & his team are honest, hard working, professional and truly great guys. It's so hard to find honest and good mechanics but every time I've brought my car here, they've proven to me over and over that they deserve my (and my car's) loyalty. My car has had all sorts of issues over the years (tires blew out, dead battery twice now, weird squeaking noises, etc) and each time Harrison will always explain to me in simple terms what's going on with my car, the cost of repair, etc. (one time he even recommended me to Costco because he knew their prices would be better---how honest is that?!) Saw a coupon on their website for a $49.99 oil change/tire rotation special. Called in to make and appointment and confirm I could use the coupon. Came in when they told me to come in and mentioned the coupon. They asked for my address and contact info. Finally after all of that they tell me the coupon is really old has changed and it's now $59.99. The guy I spoke with on the phone confirmed that I had checked about the coupon. I was then told I have a truck so it costs more, though that is not mentioned in the coupon at all. Left immediately. This is straight up unethical. It's hard to find a trustworthy mechanic. This place is awesome! Finding an honest mechanic is almost as hard as finding an honest plumber. Harrison and his crew are amazing. We had our catalytic converter stolen from our Prius (apparently this is very common in SF) and not only was Auto Stop able to replace it within a couple of days and at a price much less than the dealer, they kept their shop open late on the Friday before Memorial Day weekend to install a CAT shield (device that deters thieves) on our other Prius.
