I had a flat tire and needed to find a place to repair it. The roadside assistance service I called recommended Pak Auto Services. I drove over not sure what to expect and was greeted by Sammy. Sammy was terrific! He was polite, professional, and so helpful. Within 10 mins of my arrival, I was back on the road. He had repaired the tire and without prompting checked all the others as well. It was so fast that I couldn't believe. The place was clean, well organized and had a small waiting room. This place offers a relatively low diagnosis fee, but I'd be cautious about taking your car here for diagnoses (there's a reason why it's cheaper than other places). I had an intermittent no-start issue. Took my car here for a diagnosis, and they spent only a few minutes to run a battery test and came back telling me that it's a battery issue and it needs charging. I knew the battery is fine because I had it tested the day before. So I asked them to look further, and instead of doing a thorough diagnosis, they pressed the start button a few times and immediately made the conclusion that it's a starter issue and it needs to be replaced. I was surprised by how hasty they were so I asked how do they know, and the guy told me "well I'm a mechanic". Later they gave me an estimate of $1000 to replace the starter. Luckily I decided to take my car to the dealership instead, and turned out the issue was neither the battery nor the starter. read more

Warning to all new customers being referred to this business they stole cash out of my car. I want to start off by saying I was referred to this business by Costco because they refused to put in my OEM wheel sensors in my car. I called this business because I needed an alignment and the wheel sensors installed. The story was pretty simple I dropped off the car. I waited 4 hours, received NO PHONE CALL. Decided to walk there ( I live kinda close ) and the mechanic spoke to me. Told me he installed the sensors but couldn't get them to work and fixed the alignment. This is where the story gets sketchy. He couldn't cash me out because the other guy was on his lunch. I waited around 30 minutes and the other guy shows up. I pay and get in my car and noticed that a bunch of items in my glove box and arm console were in the floor. I keep cash hidden in my car that would take someone really digging around to find and it was missing. At this point I was stuck in traffic and decided not to turn around until I had time on Monday. The service techs are helpful. I took my truck here to have the Getaround devices uninstalled. Had an issue with the driver side door not unlocking. Called to get name of company that installs and the woman who answered the phone was very rude and lazy. She said she didnt know the name of the comapny that installs. I asked her to ask the mechanic who worked on my truck because he knows the name of the company (Radio Dimension). After he gave her this information and relayed to me, I thanked her. She hung up. All I have to say is just don't, any engine problem they jump to the "You got a blown head gasket, it will cost $3,000" . They're also kinda freaking rude front desk guy, forgot his name Moe or Babesh, or something, anyways mechanic comes barreling down trying to intimidate me into doing the work and how he's a pro and has gone to school for this kind of work, LMFAO, anyways. Went literally down five blocks to an other row of auto repair garages on Folsom street and found one that was willing to take a quick look and they diagnosed it as a dirty mass air flow sensor they charged me $100 to clean it and tightened a hose of some kind. Car works now and it only took 60 minutes worth of super freaking fast work. read more

Pak Auto is awesome! This past Saturday I had gotten new tires from big O tires. I waited close to three hours for them to install them. They then told me that I would need a wheel alignment and it would be an additional two hours! There was no way I was going to wait two more hours. On Monday I was referred to Pax Auto by the place I get my oil change done. I just came from there and I'm extremely happy with their service! I was in and out of there within 20 minutes! Got stuck late night on a misty evening driving down 101. I had called few different mechanics to see who was open and could take my car in luckily The voicemail gave an"emergency contact" I got in touch with Tariq at Payless Towing and was able to tow my car in to the shop after hours. Next morning I got a call from Bash he looked everything over and recommend just enough to get me going. I ended up getting new tires all around, a wheel alignment and some suspension work. I started coming here because it was close to work and easy to drop my car off. I came back because I liked the service and work done. The guys that run the shop are really nice and always explain everything that needs to be done or if we can wait on something etc. And when I go to pick my car up, they actually take the time to show me the old parts and what was wrong with them. I really appreciate that. You can tell they work hard and are busy but they still take the time for really good customer service (like helping you back out onto Folsom). Owned by 2 brothers in their mid twenties but they are pretty knowledgeable in my opinion. I came here for an alignment for $55 which is very reasonable. He told me my camber was off and might need extra adjustments of the shims to correct it and could cost me an extra 35 if needed. He offered to show me how to adjust it myself so i can save the extra $35. I informed him that the truck was lifted and that the suspension was not yet level. We ended up leveling out the torsion bars to correct the height which in turn corrected camber issue and set the toe straight. Was still only charged $55. This place is not like the many other shops in san francisco. These are young minds with a fresh perspective. read more

Short review: scammed me out of $1000 across 2 different visits without fixing the problem, leaving me without AC on a cross country trip. Took my car in before moving cross country for an air conditioning repair. They spent a while looking for leaks and couldn't find any. Didn't seem legit but they swore the system was fine and recharged it. A week later it was blowing hot air again and was clear they didn't fix the problem. I brought the car back in immediately, as it was a few days before I was leaving San Francisco. All of the sudden they were able to find multiple leaks in the system and needed to take the car overnight. They told me to bring it in and I did but they were inexplicably closed early (they had confirmed they'd be open at the time). I had to take time off of work because I needed this fixed before driving to the east coast, which I stressed to them. They replaced the condenser and "fixed" the leak, then charged me for the Freon again, despite the fact that I had just paid them $150 for a worthless fix they did the week before. Total cost was extremely high, and within the week I was without AC again driving through Arizona and Texas. Would NOT trust or recommend Pak Auto Service. read more

They "saved" us when we found ourselves in a fender bender on a Sunday (seriously, the owner saved us). They took our car (even though they were technically closed), and finished working on it by the next day. Overall, they're awesome. Pros: *They did a great job in a short amount of time. *Their price wasn't unreasonable (not as good as my local mechanic, but not a rip-off either). *This is a family run business, and they're really sweet, friendly people. *They try to save you money by salvaging what they can Cons *They over-salvaged by not replacing our tires. Details: We were fine with replacing a few tires if that's what the car needed, but they determined that it was unnecessary. Later, we noticed a strange thumping noise when we drove on the highway. It got worse over time, and then whenever we took a sharp turn, the wheels made a scary squealing noise. Turned out that the tires Definitely should've been replaced (rubber was damaged and had an edge that was nearly flat). Now we need to make another trip to a mechanic, pay more in fees, etc.. all after driving around with a bad tire for several weeks. I still think they did a great job, as our car was in really bad shape when we took it in. read more

Went here for a STAR-certified smog check. My car failed the first time, unfortunately, but the mechanic gave me advice on how to improve my chances for the second check. His advice worked and the car passed. Plus, they gave me a 25% discount on the second smog check since I had already paid full price the first time. I would definitely go here again. The pros at Pak Auto did a thorough inspection, found the problems and then came up with a cheaper more optimal solution to fix the problems that saved me more than $1K.
