They told me I had a leaking valve cover on my engine. Even though I brought my car there for an oil change 1 month prior. Update: I've spoken to the owner Zain about this whole situation. He took credibility for the actions of what happened in his business. He was able to replace the part that was damaged. He also accommodated for both of my kids on their birthday by buying them a bounce house for a day. The owner was a down to earth man who cared for his business and his customers. They will try to price gouge you, lie to you and then when their initial repairs fail and they are forced to repair it again they don't renew your warranty so you're just stuck with their shitty work. In full disclosure, I did not have any work done here. But I ran out of here as as fast as I could, after they got my car down off the hoist! Every single spidey sense was going off that I was about to be taken to the cleaners. I will explain. Range Rover dealer suggested my son's car may be needing new front brakes soon. My usual place is not open on Sunday, so I decided to come here. I called the night before to make sure they could do it, and asked for a ballpark estimate. Price I was told was about $350-$400; a bit on the steep side but still much less than dealer. Then I arrive Sunday morning. Spidey sense trigger 1: Guy behind counter quickly asks if I was given a price when I called. I said I did, but did not tell him what it was. So they quickly take the car back and raise it on the hoist for the free inspection and call me back to show me the "pretty thin" pads. Spidey sense trigger 2: the tires are still on! Know how hard it is to inspect pads without taking tires off. Spidey sense trigger 3: tries to tell me the pads are worn badly by how much the pistons are expanded. I ask if he looked at pad thickness. He says he did, and they are beyond thin. I ask him to show me. Spidey sense trigger 4: tries to show me pad thickness looking thru wheels. I am able to see one and say it does not look bad. His response: that's the outside one, the inside pad is always thinner. Spidey sense trigger 5: he tries to tell me I need all 4 brakes done. Rear brakes are only a few months old! I tell him that and he quickly drops it. I am thinking to myself that I do not really need new pads now, but may soon, so might as well get them done while I'm here. We go up front to get price. Tries to sell me the 'top of the line premium' brake job with lifetime warranty on parts and labor for $695. I tell him the price I was given over the phone. He tells me he tries to be just a little below dealer prices. So I question his pricing. He gives me pricing for their middle and budget brake jobs, neither much lower. Spidey sense trigger 6: lifetime parts and labor on brakes? It's a wear item. Would love to see the fine print on this warranty. Spidey sense trigger 7: tries to sell me rear brakes 2 more times after I tell him they are new. He is pretty masterful in putting on the friendly but firm hard sell. I come to my senses and decide I need to leave and go elsewhere. Spidey sense trigger 8: tries to negotiate price pretty quickly and aggressively when I tell him I do not want to have work done. I cannot comment on the quality of their work, but do certainly have a strong opinion about how reputable their business practices are. I will never go back. P.S. My car was sent to them for engine rebuild for $3500. It's now sitting on the shoulder of the freeway. Dont do business with these people! District manager called. Told him Billy wants $15000 for a job he said costs no more than $5000. Zain then avoids me for two weeks as my car sat in their yard. No one calls. So, now I'm out of $3500. I went here because I had a coupon for an oil change plus inspection. They were extremely nice but Really didn't do much of an inspection and I asked them if they could take a look at a few things (which I told them if there was a fee for that that I would pay it as my car had been running terribly). They said everything was good on my car except I needed my brake fluid to be changed as it was dirty. I didn't do the service because I know I need new rear brakes but they did not mention that because they obviously didn't inspect the brakes. I'm assuming they didn't check the brakes because two other places including my dealership also told me I needed new brakes. Are use that as kind of a test to see how observant they were. They obviously were not. I then went to get my car checked at a different shop because it's been running awful ever since the oil change. I needed a new fuel pump and a tuneup which has nothing to do with them but obviously they didn't check that. When I had the tuneup performed they also did an oil change along with it because my car was two quarts low on the oil and the oil was black as mud. This is synthetic oil as well so the oil was extremely dirty after 1000 miles on the oil change and I know cars can lose some oil but I've had no oil leaks and it had been confirmed that I had no oil leaks so basically I was 2 quarts low and within a month and a half mile oil was extremely dirty and witnessed it because the place I took my car to showed me. I don't know if they used some funky arse oil or what but I don't believe I will be returning to them for any service whatsoever. Also, when I was leaving after my so-called oil change there were two pieces of wood stuck under my car from where they had jimmied it on the lift. The gentleman seemed extremely happy that I made him aware of this as they probably don't have many pieces of wood and probably would have screwed up either paint or what not on other people's cars. Such a shame because they seemed very honest and knowledgeable but I didn't really get that much of a discount on the oil change and it is what it is I will not be returning to them ever again. Zain, Mike and Mesud are great guys who have high integrity. The first time I came in, they put in a lightbulb for free on my car. After that they checked the brakes (also for free) on my next visit. Love these guys!!! Time after time I receive excellent, above and beyond service. Went yesterday and had all my calipers replaced. They did it while I waited, and replaced all brakes, pads & rotors that were under warranty. They also took care of a couple small items at no additional charge. This kind of service is RARE!!! This place is a hidden gem as far as auto repair services go. If you need any work done, ask for Zain. He goes out of his way to make his customers happy. One time I needed to change the headlight on my vehicle, but I ordered the wrong part online. I took the headlight into Auto Pro and asked them to install it. They came back to me aftergetting under the hood (after working on it for about 15 minutes) and told me that I had ordered the wrong part. He offered to order it for me and found it for much less than what I expected. In addition, he didn't charge me at all for the work that day and told me he'd call me back when the light came in. Every other time I brought my car in for whatever work needed to be done, I got an honest report of what they needed to do, and the price is always lower than the competition. I received a quote from another shop for over $1,000 and when I took it to Auto Pro they said some of what was quoted did not need to be done and did the rest for $400. They fixed a few parts on my van that didn't need to be fixed. I ended up spending over $2,000. When my mechanic I usually use got back to work i told him what was fixed he said there was nothing wrong with those parts. So I just flushed that money down the drain on unnecessary fixes. Total rip off!! Non transparent about price or time it would take. I do understand that once cant say for sure without seeing car, but at least when I ask price for getting a particular job as replacing breake-pads the least they could have done was to give a range. After all its not rocket science. Instead the guy told me that I need to get them checked and it would coast me 40 bucks for that. Only after that they can tell if the actual price to get job done. I immediately sensed that something is fishy and left the place. Moreover when you enter place you see big labels saying that "Give us good review on yelp and google and $5 would be waived off". This shop is worst shop. I went for my car heater is not working. I already told that what is the problem but they reply that is expensive and go with which is not a problem and tried in that way and also they charged maximum amount. The problem again occurs again went to the shop and left the car one day they told that to fix that issue nearly thousand dollars. They charge more they do not do proper diagnosis , waste of time. more over it is very expensive. I do not recommend this shop. This place is expensive compared to dealers. They charged me $ 20 more than a Mercedes dealer for diagnosing engine fault codes. Please check with the dealership before taking the car to these guys. They also quoted me for a part $800 that you can buy it for $200. read more

I chose Auto Pro of Troy because they were convenient to my location and because they had (mostly) decent reviews online. I fully take responsibility for not paying attention to the negative reviews. Well, caveat emptor, as they say... When I first dropped off my car (with a suspected timing belt issue), I was expecting to receive an estimate - or even a diagnosis - within a reasonable amount of time. Instead, I was contacted 2 days later, was told that a $140 electrical test had been conducted (without my prior consent), that they had determined it to not be an electrical issue, and that further tests would be necessary. The next day when I called them, they indicated that it was the timing belt and that they would order and install a replacement. When they next contacted me, they indicated that there was engine damage due to the timing belt. The next day I called them and they told me that some bearings were shot - it would be cheaper and quicker to replace the engine. They told me it would take 3 days to receive it and a few more to install it, and that they would even install the newer timing belt on the replacement engine to stave off similar issues. It would absolutely be done by Friday. Friday came and went. And so did the following Friday. 18 days after dropping the car off, at a grand total of $5400, we were finally able to take it home. Six days later, the replacement engine started having the same issues. And so, because it was still under Auto Pro's warranty, we dropped it off with them again. This time, it took them 4 days to run another electrical test (it passed) and then diagnose that the replacement engine was bad. They were going to have to order another one. It took them a further 16 days to order and install it. Unfortunately, that engine had valve timing issues. They contemplated ordering yet another engine but instead opted to open it up and fix it, which took an additional 4 days. We picked it up, and a few days later had to tow it right back. Squeaking and smoke coming from under the hood. Oil in the driveway. Loss of power. The problem this time, costing me another $600, were two timing solenoids. They had the car for only 7 days this time, I believe it was because I called them daily for status updates. They had the car a total of 49 days - 7 weeks out of a consecutive 11, and they still didn't do the job correctly. A month later, the serpentine belt snapped. I went somewhere else this time. The timing chamber lid had not been properly sealed, spraying oil all over, causing the belt to slip and snap. On top of that, it appears that they used an improperly sized bolt (2" too short) and JB Weld paste to keep another critical component in place. This repair cost me an additional $1800. They have very poor follow-up. They were always quick to tell me that they would follow up "in a few hours" or "first thing tomorrow" or "by 6". But very rarely did they ever do so. After so many weeks of this, I started to take the initiative and call them every day for updates. A customer should not have to do this to keep a shop on track. They are severely lacking in their ability to estimate hours spent on a job. They would keep pushing completion dates further and further. They were always quick to tell me things like "it will be done in a few days" or "it's a 13-hour job, so about 2 days" or "sure, it will be done by Friday at the latest". But those estimated days would turn into days upon days more. A customer should not be treated like his time doesn't matter. When we received the car back the first time, the passenger mirror housing had been scuffed up as though someone had used steel wool to clean it. The hood and windshield were covered in a fine layer of oil. And apparently they helped themselves to the change in the cupholder. A shop should be respectful of the property they've been entrusted with. I this review serves as a caution to would-be patrons; and I hope that, if the owner is reading this, he takes appropriate actions to ensure higher quality service. read more

I have left off a long time to leave this review but I must have this known so others don't suffer as I did from this fraud Auto Pro. I got ripped off for the ages, and should have sued for how badly I was robbed.THE ABSOLUTE WORST AUTO REPAIR EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. I brought my truck here one winter because the 4wd didn't work, first thing Daniel the manager at the time tells me is: we can't do that first we have to do all 4 brakes for "safety". I did not have any issue with my brakes coming in, I actually had my front brakes replaced 4 months before bringing it in intending to have my 4wd fixed. I agreed anyways, and they charged me $1000 for 4 brake pads and rotors front and rear, that is insane, but wait things get much worse. They "diagnosed" my 4wd as being a bad transfer case motor, had that replaced for $1000 parts and labor. I get the vehicle back claiming it was fixed and right away noticed the 4wd not working. I bring it back the same day and they kept it a while and tell me it is an electrical problem, requiring special diagnosis $300 (just to diagnose! not to repair!) and then they tell me it needs the GEM module replaced and reprogrammed. Reluctantly I agreed and I get burned for another $1000 parts and labor on top of what I spent. So I get my vehicle and guess what, 4wd still not working. You can imagine my frustration, discontent, and distrust I brought it back in for one last time demanding to fix it for the fortune I paid them. They kept my vehicle for another week without calling me, I ended up calling them to find out an update for my truck and said its fixed, it ended up being a speed sensor. So the whole time, they spent replacing the most EXPENSIVE items first that weren't bad to begin with. Anyways, the final time I picked it up, the 4wd still did not work. And I did not bring it back after the hell I went through. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE. Please do not come here and waste your hard earned money here. We wasted all of what we had saved here and still did not get our problem solved. I hope this review gets posted on the top, and doesn't get hidden just because it is not a 5 star review. I know that now it is popular that if it is not a positive review, it gets buried and hidden from sight as if it doesn't exist. I took it back this am to repair leak & they wanted to charge me another $140 for ANOTHER diagnostic, then there would be repair on top of that. He offered to "work with me" on the price ... until I said I'd have to discuss it with my husband. He just gave me the keys back. What does THAT tell you? read more

Seemed like a nice place. They quoted a reasonable price, were friendly and professional. In the end, the car needed additional brake work and the price rose dramatically. In the end, with their "35% off" coupon, my rear brakes (pads and rotors) were over $500. I checked afterwards and they were actually more expensive than the BMW dealership and their coupon only brought the price a little below the dealership price. They were friendly and professional but I would recommend you go elsewhere. I would have much rather went to the dealership and got genuine parts if I knew what I know now. read more
