Best car inspection and service experience by far!! Vincent was extremely helpful. He first inspected the car free of charge and explained patiently what needed to get done. The full service for the car was detailed and thorough, and at very reasonable price! He even fixed a big dent on the car body without me asking and free of charge. I would highly recommend auto headquarters and would definitely come back in the future. Kevin helped with scheudling the appointment and was very fast and clear with response. Great five star experience! Thank you! read more

You will know you've come to the right place when Kevin welcome you with his professionalism and perfectionism. I just bought a 10-year-old 2006 Impreza a while ago, and it has been taken care in Kevin's good hands since the first week I got the car. I did a lot of research on many Subaru fan forums and other places, and quite a lot Subie enthusiasts recommend Kevin for his great skill and experience. These enthusiasts surely won't let any so-so mechanics to do surgery on their babies, therefore I know Kevin is the right person to go to for revitalize my 2006 Impreza. He really did. Though the car looks pretty new and drives like a normal car for most of the time, it has many issues and problems lies in the shadow. Kevin helped me locate both the easily found problems (broken axle boots, worn brakes, etc.) as well as hidden issues (old ATF causing shift hesitation, underperformed engine). I also decided to ask Kevin to change the Timing belt for this old car. During the entire process, I just left the car at Kevin's with 100% peace in mind, and felt quite confidence that he will fix every problem the best way. Even though it was only the very first time I met with Kevin, but I just felt that I can rest assured Kevin will take good care of everything. Maybe it is because the way Kevin explained the problems to me, since it is very straightforward and frank. I will continue bring my subie back to Kevin for all maintenance. In fact, Kevin makes me confidence to buy a more advanced Subaru for my next car. I am already making plans to buy a 2009 Subaru WRX for my next car, and I am sure that Kevin can help me pick a good one and then make it even better! read more

The best Subaru shop I have come across in the Bay Area. I have been a Subaru owner and autocross driver since 2002 . I have built over 5 autocross Subarus and have never come across a shop as good as auto headquarters for truly intelligent and professional mechanics whose attention to detail provides nothing but the best in performance as well as everyday repair and maintenance. If you own a Subaru this is your shop do not go any further there is no need. read more

I've been to AHQ twice now, once for springs install and another for lip + side skirt install on my 2016 STi. Kevin did a great job, was knowledgable, very nice, and the prices were good. I looked at a number of places in the bay area before finding AHQ, and I'm glad I was patient and did some research I don't like just anyone touching my car, but Kevin is first rate and this is definitely my goto shop in the South Bay now. We talked about other possible modifications to the car, pros/cons/prices/etc... He knew his stuff and wasn't trying to sell me parts or give me garbage advice. If you have a Subaru and are scratching your head about where to take it, call AHQ first. Even if it doesn't workout for whatever situation you're in, you'll be glad to have this place as an option in the future. read more

After some research via yelping/subaru-forums, I found out about AHQ. I had emailed Kevin for a quote on how much it was for the 30k mile service on my WRX. Kevin was very responsive throughout the email conversation, which is very much appreciated since I had hit my 30k mile mark already and really wanted to book an appointment soon. Got out to AHQ the following week and met Kevin. He was very friendly and informative about cars and what type of service he is providing and such. Additionally, he provided a lot of advice/info/pointers on how to maintain my car better, which is great. He was very open to questions. After getting my car back from AHQ, i immediately felt the difference. Kevin did great work on my car and my car definitely felt like it performs smoother than before. I would recommend taking your car here for a tune up or anything else car related as it will be in good hands. read more

Regular car service isn't that stressful, but when you have a repair that prevents you from using your car, that's major stress. I had a cracked radiator, dripping fluid, losing pressure, fear of overheating in my turbo Subaru. Messaged Kevin through yelp, had work quoted faster than the dealership could provide a quote, and work done next day. I probably got lucky to get such a quick turnaround, and Kevin made drop off and pickup super convenient. He kept up communication well and made me feel that my car was in his hands. I wouldn't think twice about going back. Car feels great! (I added transmission and oil change to the radiator, because of the ease of the process). Pros: Communication Honesty and openess Fast excellent service Better experience than stealership Cons: Parking is tight, possibly because there are so many projects read more

What can I say? I've been coming back to Kevin to service both my STI, and my new addition to the stable, the 99 Miata. I brought in the NB for a full major tune up; all fluids flushed, new spark plugs/cables, timing belt changed. As always, my cars drive much happier than it did when it came in. Keep up the good work Kevin! read more

I've known Kevin for 15 years. He is technically skilled and honest. Don't be surprised when he notices problems with your car that nobody else has noticed, that's a good thing. He very detail oriented, some may say a perfectionist. This is exactly who you want to take care of your car when you demand perfection. You can't find a more qualified, capable and honest mechanic, his rates are reasonable too. read more

I live close by and always passed by the shop and noticed there was always multiple Subaru's in the parking lot, I have 2 Subaru's and had some performance/tuning questions so I decided to stop by and I was extremely impressed by their knowledge and all the information they gave me! I do all the work on my cars myself, but if I didn't I would most definitely be taking my car here! If you own a Japanese vehicle take it here your car will thank you. read more

This shop came highly recommended by other car enthusiasts so I decided to stop by. The owner Kevin was very welcoming and was open to diagnosing my vehicle and making recommendations. I have been back to this shop 3 times now and each time they were very thorough, explained each situation, and did quality work. Kevin has went out of his way to explain anything I had questions about. I feel that this shop is very honest, has reasonable rates, and has very knowledgeable mechanics. I highly recommend this shop, great work Auto HQ! read more

Had a great experience here. Kevin and Vincent are generous with their time and knowledge, and I really have to credit them for not charging me beyond an inspection on my WRX. It has a long list of issues (more than I want to pay to fix), and they were honest and highly professional about it. I'll certainly go here for any future car inspection/repair work. read more

Years after having had a relationship with Kevin and Winston, I would say they are the most honest and meticulous mechanics in the bay. They are friendly and will go out of their to help a loyal customer. I made the mistake of having my engine rebuilt at Subaru and a poor job was done on the engine. Kevin and Winston will be the only ones who will touch my car from this point on and there's many reasons why. They don't take shortcuts, they don't like vehicles to return with an issue, they take every measure to make sure the job is done right and with quality parts, they use techniques that can only be developed over years of experience and not through a shop manual and most of all, they give you the information and let you make your best informed decision. If it weren't for Kevin and Winston I would be in deep shit and I owe them for saving my car and my money. Don't hesitate to bring your car here, Kevin will treat it as if it is his own, and treat you as if you were his friend. read more

I haven't taken my car to a shop in five years because I can't find one that's run by decent people. THIS IS THE BEST SHOP I'VE EVER BEEN TO. The owner stayed late to check out my car, gave me an in-depth response of what had happened to the car the next day and also was the only shop around that actually understands Subarus. I took it to another shop before this and they couldn't even find the turbo, and then AH tracked down my low performance issue with my 05 OBXT in less than 30 minutes. Great people, awesome shop, honest work, Subaru Guru's. What more could you ask for? read more

Kevin is the MAN. He is a knowledgeable, honest and reasonably priced mechanic. Some of his services may cost a bit more because he uses quality parts and fluids. If he doesn't think your car will last much longer, he will discuss this with you and ask if you want to use less expensive parts for the repair or forego it all together. The first time I had this discussion, I had asked him to do an engine gasket repair and had been told at the time that it wasn't worth it. I might have insisted, because I remember being told to go home, talk it over with my wife and if I still wanted to do it, to call him back tomorrow. After coming to my senses and considering that I had been told that he didn't want my money, I sold the car. Over the years he has talked me into giving up several cars rather than having him do expensive repairs. When I used to think about car purchases, I considered Honda and Subaru first since those are his specialties; however, since learning that he will work on other brands, I've broadened my horizons. I'd never go anywhere else. I see his business profile on Yelp says he is a perfectionist- he is. Take this into account when interacting with him. He is often in the shop, not by his phone and he doesn't have a secretary who might drive up his prices to answer or return his calls. Be patient, your car will be happy you were. read more

I scheduled a pre-purchase inspection for a Subaru Outback that I was thinking about buying on Craigslist. I was coming in from out of town and wanted a mechanic to check the vehicle before I bought it. In the end I decided not to buy it and I'm grateful that Kevin saved me from buying a heap of trouble! read more

Everything about this shop is awesome. Kevin and his team are head and shoulders above any other shop in the Bay Area. Whenever I take my STi in for service I know I'm getting quality work at a fair price. Kevin is an uber Subaru mechanic - super knowledgeable, trustworthy and fair. My STi is 6 years old and Kevin is great at inspecting my car and letting me know in advance the work that I will need down the line. With Kevin and Auto Headquarter, I feel that my STi will run for another 6 years! I can't say enough good things about Kevin and Auto Headquarter. read more

Today we went to Auto HQ for a used-car inspection. We were iffy with all of the rumors about Subarus, but otherwise the car to the untrained eye looked pretty good. Still on the fence, we brought the car in for an inspection by Kevin before we would purchase it. WOW! Good thing that we did bring it in because the car would have been a money drain for all the necessary repairs. Kevin noticed many issues with the car (previous repairs from accidents, loose head gaskets, rust on the bottom, too many issues to list) that would have amounted to thousands of dollars for repairs. Kevin was honest and very helpful in our search for a used car. He even gave recommendations of what type of car I should buy. This inspection was really a lifesaver and it showed how knowledgeable and detail-oriented Kevin is with his work. I would highly recommend this shop to anyone. read more

Very knowledgeable. Much better than the dealership, in my opinion. I am not doing any fancy performance tuning, just regular Subaru maintenance. read more

It's hard to find a honest and trustworthy mechanic. I have been coming to Auto Headquarter for a few years now, It's like having a friend who always look after your best interest when it comes to maintaining your cars. I recently had a HKS coil over installed on my 94 RX7. I came to Kevin for suspension tuning. As usual, his attention to detail was beyond expectation. Kevin first re torqued all nuts and bolts to ensure safety and reliability. He then took his time to understand my driving habits so he could find the optimal setting for both the street and tracking setting not just a cookie approach like many on the market. After the tuning, the car handled just like the way I would imagine. The suspension feedback had well communicated. Auto Headquarter works on my Subaru BRZ on occasion. They always do super solid work and have fair pricing. Kevin always remembers my car even when I haven't seen him in over a year. He takes the time to tell you what he's doing and why. When you ask him for advice he gives you clear, sound suggestions. I started going here 2 years ago when I was working around the corner and I'm still going back even though the office has moved. I've had him do spark plugs on the BRZ and suggested my friends go here to fix the installs they may have botched. I trust the business with my car, which I'm sure as other enthusiasts know, is not something that is easy to do. Kevin is also super helpful over the phone when asking questions or going over options. read more

Kevin performed a pre-purchase inspection on a used Honda that I was interested in purchasing. He was professional and inspired confidence even though we had only just met. I was impressed with the thorough evaluation and write-up, and the price was very reasonable. I was also happy that I was able to make an appointment for this service in the evening. Kevin really cares about taking care of his customers and giving good advice. You can feel confident that he will try to do right by you. I brought my Subaru by because I was worried I had a head gasket issue. Kevin confirmed that I did indeed have a head gasket issue. Instead of quoting me a price to repair it, he suggested that it would be best for me to just sell it and get a new car, because it might not actually be worth it to fix. He also gave me a really detailed explanation of what the problem was, even though he didn't have to. Thanks Kevin! read more

Had a headlight out on my 2007 WRX. They got me in immediately and changed the bulb for free. Seems like these guys just love cars!

Just had my 60K major done this week. Before that, Kevin took his time to review all previous maintenance records and answer every single question I had. It has been only a couple of days after the maintenance. The car definitely runs smoother. I'll update later for more. But Kevin's professionalism and attention to details was noticed when I picked up the car: 1. After careful examination, Kevin cleaned my almost new air filter and put it back in. He not only saved me some money but also showed what a trustable mechanic/owner he is. 2. Based on previous alignment report, Kevin recommended alignment job. Through test drive and tire wear check, Kevin decided that it was not necessary and saved me more! 3. adjusted the tire pressures to the ideal level and notified me. I knew the pressure has always been high in the past few years but none of the dealers from previous maintenance(I have pre-purchased maintenance up to 50k) bothered to let me know 4. In addition to all these great services, AutoHQ's price is fair comparing to the dealers. P.S. It's truly impressive that Kevin replied all emails timely. I've never met any owner like that. read more

This review is for service done several months ago. Here is what I know: Took my 2012 Subaru Impreza in for its 30k service. Read the Yelp reviews and felt that I would get quality service at a good price. When I went to pick up my car, the first thing I was told was that the nothing was done to the transmission because it was not in spec'd for this service. I thought it was odd that I was being told specifically about this but did not give it too much thought. Shortly after this service, while on my way to and from Lake Tahoe, the AT OIL TEMP light came on. This had never happened before. I had not taken my car on a longer trip prior so I thought maybe driving up the hills worked the CVT a bit harder than normal. I made it back fine and took the Subie in to the dealer as it was still under warranty to check it out. I was told by the dealer that the issue could not be duplicated and that there were no error codes being given. I continued to drive my car and the AT OIL TEMP light would come on. It happened when I drove up certain grades or when I was driving 70+mph for 10-15 minutes or longer. If I stopped the car for a few minutes or got off the freeway and drove on city streets, the light would turn off. This has gone on for 30k miles (my car has just under 60k) and I chalked it up to a quirk. The car was fine other than that. I took my car to the dealer today for a different issue (still under warranty) and while there I talked to the service advisor about the ongoing AT OIL TEMP light problem. Its happened everyday for the past 4 days and I made it a point to get it documented (again) by Subaru incase more issues came up. I was told today that after not being able to duplicate the problem (of course not, the car needs to be driven for at least 15 minutes at speed) they decided to check the fluid. Apparently, the AT OIL in my car DOES NOT APPEAR to be the fluid that Subaru puts in its cars.. It appears to be "gear oil" is what I was told. WTF?!? I am not saying this was done by Auto HQ. I am just telling you what happened and when it started. Prior to the 30K service my car never had a warning light go off. After 30K service I got that one light all the time...the AT OIL TEMP light. I will be picking up my car today and will monitor the AT OIL TEMP light. I will edit this post as needed as time goes on. read more
