This was my first time not using the dealership, I don't know why I waited so long! The women at the front desk were so kind and welcoming, I received a detail report on my car that had photos of all the readings and work done (I have never been offered this service anywhere.... Ever.... It was a huge bonus in my book). The waiting area had ample seating with drinks and snacks available. The price was average and fair. They were spot on with their time quote and I did not feel it was too long. I will be returning for my next car service. read more

This was,by far, the absolute WORST car repair experience in my lifetime. While traveling to visit my 95 year old mother, who, lives in a ACLF 300 miles from our home, the air conditioner quit working on our 2009 Honda Civic. Based on the recommendation of an employee at the Hotel where we stay at when visiting my Mother, I took our car to Sal's Auto ER. After waiting several hours to hear from Mike, the service rep who I dealt with, I saw that I had several text messages from him. He( Mike ) indicated that he had attempted to call me several times, however, I did not receive any calls from him. He ( Mike ) subsequently left several voicemails on my cellphone. This process substantially delayed the time required to repair our car. I was never able to receive a call from Mike due to some type of SNAFU with either his or my cell phone carrier. Mike advised me that the air conditioner compressor had ' locked up ' , which resulted in the air conditioner belt breaking. He ( Mike) advised me that he would have to replace the compressor and belt in order to restore the air conditioning on the car. He also recommended that I replace the serpentine belt, which, had no relation to the air conditioner. This was late Monday afternoon (9/22/2025).In that I needed the car repair, I authorized the work. The next day, Tuesday ( 9/23/2025 ) My wife and I waited almost all day to hear from Mike. When we did hear from him late Tuesday afternoon he , Mike, advised us that although they had replaced the compressor, there was an apparent leak in the system that they couldn't locate and were attempting to restore the air conditioning. Finally, Mike concluded that the condenser would have to be replaced, which could cost, at a minimum over $1,000.00 more. I told him that I was unwilling to spend that much more and we agreed that I would pick the call up the next morning ( Wednesday; 9/24/2025. Mike offered to attempt to get some coolant in the air conditioning system using a can product the next morning. Unfortunately, his efforts failed and my wife had to drive over 300 miles home in the Florida heat without air conditioning. read more

I took my truck here only to be told after a diagnosis test for $ 250 bill that I needed a new engine, but when I came to pick it up to my shocking surprise to see loose parts all over the engine and she expected me to pick it up like that because I need a new engine anyway. So, I had to ask to have everything put back the way I gave to them. My first and last time here, so, big mistake.Horrible customer service. read more

John and the staff mechanics were great. I scheduled rear shocks for installation, but got a battery light on the way to the shop. I had heard a whining noise the past couple days and wondered which part attached to the serpentine belt was going bad and that answered the question. Been going to Sal's for about 20 years. They always do right by you. Best to make appointment to help ensure they have the parts you need and time to get the job done. Can usually provide ride service to/from, or can wait in reasonably comfortable waiting room w/coffee/tea and WiFi. Not inexpensive, but reasonable and occasionally run coupons & promos. I've had the following types of work done, on Acura, Toyota Prius, even Saab: oil changes, tuneups, head replacement, tire mounting/balancing, water pumps, HID headlight replacement (ouch!!), brakes, shocks/struts. read more

Evacuated for the hurricane (that didn't hit) and noticed tire was low on air. Reinflated it and looked for a place to plug the tire. We noticed we picked up a screw or nail along the way. Screw was in center of tread and tire was in good shape. Salt's refused to plug it and said we had to buy a tire. I understand if tire was in bad shape or if screw was on the side wall but this was a year old tire and screw was in the center. No need to buy a brand new tire but we needed to get home and not much else was open. Feel like they took advantage of us since we had no real choice Took tire with screw to place of purchase (where we always go and they give us road hazard ins) and they agreed that we shouldn't have had to purchase a tire. read more

Since my review the ownership, management, and technicians has changed and since my 5 star review is based only on past visits, a family members experience ,which was less than 3 stars & giving them the benefit of doubt to them at 3. Hands down best mechanic shop in town. We have three cars that we take here for routine maintenance as well as for repairs when needed. Every time I've required work to be done outside of general maintenance, I've been explained (in detail) why the work was recommended or required, what could happen if I chose not to get the work done, alternate solutions provided when applicable as well as a detailed quote on the duration and cost of repairs. I've never once felt pressured to get a service or repair completed nor have I ever felt as if the price for said repairs weren't fair. This shop has gone above and beyond in helping all the members of my family and treated us with respect. I've mainly worked with Dustin but I have no double that all his team members would provide the same level of service. You absolutely cannot go wrong here. read more

While driving from Tampa to New Orleans in our 1992 Porsche 968, our wipers broke down in a driving rain storm. We pulled off the highway and discovered on Yelp that Sal's automotive was less than a mile away. As the rain began to clear we pulled into the shop. Someone came out to help us and they repaired on the spot. (it was simply reattaching the arm of the wiper, no parts required) When we asked what we owed them, they said 'no charge'. The only place I'd ever go in Gainesville! I'm from out of town and traveling and all I needed was an oil change and they let me come in immedietly and got me finished in under a half hour. The man who helped us was incredibly friendly, honest, and straight-forward. He didn't try to sell us unnecessary things or make us upgrade anything like they do a jiffy lube. I contacted them by email and got a call the next morning, set an appointment for 8:00 am the following day. I was greeted promptly and courteously. They knew I was waiting so the service people moved my car to the head of the line. The work was done quickly and well. The waiting area is clean and pleasant with water, coffee and soda available. A couple months ago my car wouldn't start at the Dairy Queen that's right next to this place, so I had to get Triple A to tow it to here. Turns out the starter was broken and it should've only cost about $150 to fix. They charged me $400. 400 fucking dollars. To change a starter. I'm a college student and had to use my loans to fix my car. So yeah thanks Sal's for taking all my money really appreciated it. Would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

This business, from Michael the owner, to sweet Lisa in the office, is beyond amazing. They were my angels. I recently lost my job, and my car had stopped working. A family friend attempted to diagnose it, and actually shorted the electrical system. Auto ER towed my car, and had it running in just a few days. This car is older, however, has been solid, and my only means of transportation. I am humbled by their generosity, and caring attitude towards me. The car is now running perfectly!! If anyone reading this ever has a problem with their car, or is nervous regarding the honesty of auto repair businesses, you cannot go wrong here at AutoER. I have a 2009 Honda Accord and a 1996 Nissan pickup and have been going to Sal's for all major work for about six years. When I just need an oil change, I usually go someplace where I have a coupon. A couple of times, in addition to an oil change, I have been told I need other work done. On these occasions, I have gone to Sal's and have been told the work was not necessary. Four years ago, Sal's replaced the clutch in the pick up. Just recently, this clutch failed, and the failure was three years beyond Sal's warranty. Not only did the clutch need to be replaced, but so did the fly wheel which was very difficult to remove. Sal's charged for only the parts which I thought was very fair. Based on my experience over the years, this is the only place in Gainesville I will go for auto repairs. read more

I took my 2010 jeep in that was making a strange noise. The mechanic replaced one part and thought we were good to go. However the noise returned so he replaced three other parts until he finally found the issue. Labor charges were waived and they extended a two year warranty on their work! My jeep runs great, no more strange noises and I didn't drain my bank to pay! The office manager is very knowledgeable and friendly and understands what true customer service is! These people tried to scam me into paying close to $700 for a part that costs $150 off of amazon. They definitely tried to take advantage of me because I'm a woman. My mechanic back home looked at the quote they gave me and told me it's only because I'm a woman that they tried to charge me that much. Not only did they quote me $700, the sales guy tried to get me sign up for their credit card to pay off the expense. Don't trust these guys for anything more than a oil change, maybe not even that. They suck!!! And yes, it is so true that only people who are not satisfied with the service that leave a review... don't trust the five star reviews. read more

I have been a customer of Sal's for over 15 years now. My first experience with them was with an older Hyundai that was running very rough. I thought I needed extensive fuel injection system work and was prepared for the worst. They called me quickly, explained it was a bad spark plug wire, replaced them all and had me up and running in a jiff. Had they told me an expensive fuel system repair was needed I would have believed it and done the repair. Bottom line, they have ALWAYS been honest and up front when working on my cars. If you are looking for the cheapest place in town that doesn't really care about their customers, look elsewhere. If you want honest, quality work at a fair price, go to Sal's and you won't be disappointed. read more
