When we came last January for a trial day I knew that we would have substantial challenges moving into a classroom setting. Our son was diagnosed at an early age and does have severe symptoms, as well as being non verbal. But after spending the last four years with various agencies in the DTT model at home, we were ready for a change. After our intake assessment, it was clear that our son wasn't ready for a classroom setting. So instead they made the offer for us to access the clinic for ABA and push into the Academy over time. He's really blossomed in this model. He's totally acclimated to the classroom now, and will be moving into the classroom full time soon. Any complaints I've had have been met with solutions and if there was a problem they could not solve they referred me to someone who could. Mr. Sam and Karlie are great teachers, and the classroom is amazing. Music therapy is twice a week and they have clinics for OT and speech. Once a month there are Saturday camps, and Friday evening camps as well. These don't have an additional cost except for siblings and as long as you have therapy hours available. Holiday events have been so much fun! The school doesn't require verbal only like every other competitor in the area that refuses to serve any other population other than tier 1 verbal kids. So that was a huge plus for us. The program is year round. Overall we are really satisfied, and look forward to the 2019-2020 school year.

The driving and the distances to family homes often precludes a substitute if a session is cancelled last minute. (Especially in a county as huge as LA) Parents also commonly have to cancel at the last minute . Most parents would prefer someone they know to do these sessions , not some random other employee. What parent wants a sick therapist bringing germs into their home? I know from personal experience that Yvonne Bruinsma and her staff genuinely care about these kids. She isn't doing this to make money. This isn't a place that runs kids through a cookie-cutter program -- they took the time to truly get to know our son and built plans specifically around his strengths, his challenges, and his personality. You can tell they think carefully about striking that perfect balance between keeping him comfortable and pushing him just enough to grow. They've also been incredible partners to us as parents. They've coached us on how to reinforce his goals at home, which has made a world of difference in his day-to-day progress. When we needed help coordinating with his private school, they stepped up without us even having to push -- working directly with the administration to tailor a schedule that fit seamlessly with his school day. On top of all of that, our son received speech therapy through KidSpeak here for a couple of years, and the results speak for themselves. He graduated from the program and is now communicating like other kids his age. The speech therapy team was absolutely phenomenal and played a huge role in getting him to where he is today. Every interaction we've had tells us the same thing: these people are in it because they care about our kiddo. They go above and beyond in ways we never expected, and our son is happier and thriving because of them. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

My son was in and out of treatment at ROWI's Thousand Oaks location for several months. For the…read moremost part, it was a great experience--ROWI has a strong team of therapists and a solid program designed to support kids struggling with mental health issues and substance abuse. However, we later discovered that ROWI had not drug tested my son for several weeks, despite the fact that he was supposed to be tested weekly. Unfortunately, during that time, he had been using drugs. As soon as we found out, we immediately reached out to his therapist to discuss the situation and determine the best course of action. Had we been informed sooner, we could have addressed it right away, so learning about this delay was incredibly upsetting. When ROWI became aware that he was using, they abruptly discharged him over the holidays, leaving us in crisis mode with no support system in place. It was an overwhelming and distressing situation, and we had no idea how to handle it. What made it even more painful was that not a single person from ROWI reached out to offer guidance or support, despite the strong relationships we had built with his team. I struggle to understand how a treatment center that specializes in helping teens facing these exact challenges could dismiss a patient so suddenly. It was an incredibly disappointing ending, and I believe new families entering the program should be aware of this possibility.

On multiple occasions, Teresa ignored us at check-in and check-out because she was talking on her personal phone or sometimes because she is chatting with others. She always makes us wait without acknowledgment, and when we did approach the desk, she was visibly irritated and made rude facial expressions. Worse, Teresa is always spoking loudly about other clients and their children, mocking and making disrespectful comments where everyone could hear. She was even talking incredibly loud about her own personal matters, including how she's having a baby, getting tax money, and was being mad because her baby's father gives money to his other child's mother -- all conversations we can hear in the waiting room. The last incident was especially upsetting: she openly gossiped about my niece, and her parents by name to another staff member while we were sitting right there. This made us feel disrespected and humiliated in a place where families should feel supported and safe. I want to make it clear that this type of unprofessional conduct will cost you clients and money. Families will refuse to come to a place where they feel mocked, disrespected, and gossiped about.
