He really (mostly by phone or video call) encourages the student to think independently and do the necessary work on a regular and ongoing basis. From listening to our daughter talk about her friends at other schools not having a good sense of why they are applying to certain colleges or understanding the college application process, we can have the sense that many high school's guidance counselors are overwhelmed with the number of students they need to work with and a lot of students are left to figure things out without much real guidance. Our daughter received lots of feedback and practice with writing college essays and answering the application questions. Trevor has been very helpful with the ins and outs of college financial aid. The guidance that Trevor Ramos provides has been invaluable. We are currently starting with our son who is in tenth grade with Trevor.

Mr Wade was able to upload Dr Bruno's teaching procedures for homeschoolers. Didn't try to dig deep into parent's pockets but sold these CDs for only $20. I used this CD while I completed my internship for Ed Credential. My study provided evidence for a 16 yr old with cognitive impairment to increase his spelling ability by 300 new words within 9 weeks. Dr Bruno provided me an insight into my future research while supporting individuals with Dyslexia. God rest them in a world of peace. Thank you for a job well done. As I wrote earlier, I am working on my dissertation and the need to remove labels from special education services. In no way am I suggesting that we do away with SPED. According to IDEA, special education is a service and not a placement. With this knowledge, then none of our children should be labeled as a special education student supported by special education teachers in a special education classroom. Our children are students first supported by a teacher, in a classroom meeting their needs. They are wonderful students that require support through special education services. For some that may read this, I am suggesting People First Language. This project was conceived by my high school students who wore this label with shame. Together, we authored and submitted Resolution #25 and after one school year finally received full support from the CA Federation of Teachers Union. I will follow up with CTA and NEA, this year. But, my students and I are not stopping there as we are in the process of contacting our Congress and Senate representatives to ask for Resolution support to adopt People First Language across our country. This is their time for the Me Too! movement. If we can achieve this, then more students will accept the fact that they are not lazy, dumb, or too stupid to learn and will turn from being a 'special ed student' to a 'scholar with choices' for their futures. Secondly, I am planning on opening up a non-profit that will continue Dr. Bruno's and Mr. Waid's work. I would like to hear how these two very simple individuals made such a huge impact on our lives. It appears that the staff at Van…read moreBuren elementary school is not prepared, capable, or qualified to teach, direct or instruct students in any matter. A few rotten apples sure does ruin it for the teachers and staff that are passionate about what they do. Over the years there have been a number of incidents which have occurred, several meetings with the principal were held which amounted to nothing. Pure nonsense came out of the principles mouth so that we would be on our way. I have visited the school on several occasions, the office was in it utter chaos!!! The moment I entered the office door I counted at least eight students a few laying on the office floor!!! I literally had to step over a little girls head. I am insisting on changes being made!!! There is a lice epidemic in which my niece and nephews have come home with lice for the past two years!!! A year ago a student chopped off my nieces hair in the middle of class and now the student who was responsible for the incident is once again in her class!!! My nephews hands were bound behind his back with zip ties by his first grade teacher in front of the entire class!!! Because he was biting his nails!!! The teacher was reprimanded but later allowed back at the school. Today my nephew was punched in the eye by a fellow student, he was sent back to class and the excuse was that the incident would be investigated. This school is one of the worst I've ever encountered!!! Unfortunately it is the only school convenient for my brother and sister in laws hectic work schedules. However the children come first and changes will have to be made one way or another.

I was Overwhelmed and at no to end to my focus. With just a phone call KIM McCLAIN became my ADVOCATE EXTRAORDINAIRE. Very empathetic she too is a parent. Being a parent does not stop her from maintaining professional. MS. McClain assisted me with not only bullying but an IEP, and getting an outside reassessment. Because i had ignorantly signed off to my child's rights because i was misinformed and scared. I felt like i had failed my child by this action. However; thankful for the referral to Ms. McClain she had the OC district shaking and in less than a week questions were addressed and the district was LISTENING. I am thankful and excited that we have Ms. McClain on our team not only as a professional but as a friend. She is true to her CAREER as a fighter that knows special need legalities and school systems. Please if anyone is questioning the systems of Special Needs Kim McCLAIN is the A+ ADVOCATE for special needs and any school system Bullying.

We were given a list of non-public schools to choose from during a time when a public school wasn't the right fit for her. After touring several different non-public school options, CLU was honestly the only choice I felt comfortable with. Compared to the other options, it was a smaller, more nurturing environment for her to heal and grow within, which was exactly the type of space I was hoping to find for her. She's made so much positive progress during her time at CLU that she will be transitioning back into a public school setting starting next school year. A huge part of that transition being possible is the safe, loving community that CLU has provided for her over the past few years. As for the negative reviews on this page, it seems like most of them come from families who have never attended CLU, or who interacted with CLU's previous leadership team. My daughter attended CLU under the previous leadership (led by a woman named Ginny), and now attends under the new leadership team, lead by Jen Mize. While I never had an issue with anything under Ginny's leadership, I will say that there have been so many wonderful improvements and expansions that have come from Jen's leadership so far. Everything feels much more organized, and Jen has really excelled at building a warm, mindful space centered around inclusion and care. Every time I go to the school for an event or volunteer opportunity, the space is filled with love from the entire community. As happy as I am for my girl as she moves forward on her path, I'm a little heartbroken at the thought of leaving this community. I'll have to see if she can come back to visit. :)
