Outstanding!!! I brought in my 2008 MacBook Pro because the screen was flickering. After an initial analysis Ray determined my hard drive was failing as well. He said it would be ready on Monday. Check this out, so the little pin on my homegirl's ASUS laptop power connector broke (the one inside the computer), we called ASUS and they said it would be $200 + S/H costs and 4-6 weeks to fix. She had not backed up her recent work (which she needed for a project the following week), the battery died and I don't know if any of you have taken apart an ASUS laptop to get the HD out before; lets just say it's not for the faint of heart (and I like to think of myself as techsavvy, after finally popping off the KB 10 mins into it, I gave up, lol). Anyways, brought it up to Ray at AustinTech. Not only would he end up knocking it out for 1/2 the price and in *3 days*, he asked us if we had another laptop. We did (my macbook pro), he then proceeded to disassemble the laptop and plugged the drive into a drive-to-USB chassis enabling us to get all the data off and she was able to continue working on her project on her home PC while the laptop was being repaired. Anyways, these guys have since gotten me out of numerous jams of all sizes and I just wanted to finally put the word out, I absolutely have no reason to drive down to Fairfax anymore. read more

Recently, I began receiving a hard drive error every time I booted up my computer, and I wasn't sure what to do. I tried to troubleshoot on my own quickly, but it was clear I was going to need my computer fixed by a professional. I've been screwed by Geek Squad in the past, so I thought I would find someone local who could help me out. I read the great reviews on Yelp for Austin Tech, so I thought I would try them out. Even with the great reviews, I was still shocked by the excellent service I received. I dropped my computer off late Saturday afternoon, and received a very reasonable quote to clone my hard drive, and put a new one in. On Monday, they called me to let me know that my hard drive was larger than they thought, so they put a slightly larger one in for $10, would that be okay? Absolutely. But other than that, it was already fixed! Not even 48 hours later, my fiance went and picked it up for me. All of the men who I chatted with briefly were personable, and clearly knowledgable about computers (I guess that goes without saying, but I think it's important to note). Hopefully, I won't have any future computer problems, but if I do, I definitely will return to Austin Tech. Also good to note, they had a huge selection of computer parts/refurbished laptops/everything you could ever need for your computer. I don't know what good pricing really is for that kind of stuff, but nothing seemed excessively expensive. read more

I am not a professional builder. But I have done many builds for not only myself, and my family; but also for several friends. While swapping out power supplies, I had a mobo fail to boot. I tested EVERYTHING. The one thing I lacked? A test bed for the old PSU I was using. After testing everything that I could, I took it to Ray. He looked at my work, agreed it looked right, then said: " I'll call you tomorrow." Not only did he call me first thing in the morning, he told me exactly what the issue was, and how he figured it out. THEN he didn't CHARGE me a penny! Very pleased with how quickly Austin Tech was able to replace my broken laptop screen and get it back to me, and the cost was pretty reasonable. I dropped it off one day, and it was available for pickup the next day, and it cost in the ballpark of $159 I think. No complaints here. I reserve the 5-star rating for when I can tell a business is clearly better than the local competition, and since I haven't gone to any other local computer stores like this, I can't make that call here. Great repair place, highly recommended. This is where we took our high-schooler's computer to get the OS completely wiped, cleaned, re-installed after he got it totally infected, corrupted, and hosed up. It's the kind of place a tech geek will love...racks of equipment, smart staff, and all housed in a nondescript office park location. It tells you from the get go that these guys know their stuff, and aren't into high frills, high overhead mega-box stores. Nothing bothered them...they just got the work done right, on time, for exactly what they promised. Don't bother driving to Fairfax. No need. And do you have a high end gaming PC with liquid cooling? The squad at the blue and yellow store wouldn't even touch it...even for just software work (I'm smart enough to know the HW was fine)...even if I promised to hold them not-liable for ANY hardware damage done by their loading CDs into the optical drive and installing software (insert additional sarcasm here). Don't bother going anywhere else for computer repair. Just to to Austin Tech. You won't be impressed by the storefront...you'll be impressed by the end result. And that's all that matters. read more

We've always had friends help us out when we had computer trouble, which worked great until we started a business. Now, a network, 5 PCs, 3 Laptops multiple printers, routers, modems....etc, we found we needed a professional. I called Austin Tech because one of the guys who used to help us out liked to use their products and services. In fact, I bought a used dell laptop from them 8 years ago when I was a teacher (it still works!). Travis came out two days after my call and in less than 2 hours, he'd diagnosed our ongoing problems, suggested solutions, told us the items needed to fix everything, and said he'd be back to install everything after we'd made our purchase. (BTW, they do sell the items, but I can get better prices "elsewhere"...and I needed to go "elsewhere" for other things anyway, so it was a no-brainer.) Travis is a very interesting and intelligent guy with much insight about computers that is both helpful and informative. I don't foresee any problems with this company. My laptop would take more than 30 minutes to start up, and it probably needed a new hard drive. The owner/tech said it would take a couple of days to be repaired. I got a call a day later and it was ready to pick up. It cost me a little over $200, which is far better than buying a new laptop. It probably would have cost me 800-1000 dollars; I didn't have. Only true computer store in loudoun county. I laugh at my friends who complain about how much cables and computer parts go when they go to best buy or whatever. Being a Computer Science major and former IT worker, this is the only place i go for any of my computer needs. Prices are comparable to online shopping, with no waits and knowledgeable owners on site all the time. fortunately for me it's VERY close to my work so it's not a pain to get to. Happy to have found this place as they saved me time and money by taking my Mac here instead of the Apple Store! Also liked that I could support a local business. They had no trouble resolving the issue where my mac would just randomly shut down. They fixed the fan and did some other minor things they I should have probably been doing to properly maintain my mac that is almost 6 years old now. It has been almost 5 months now since I took my Mac here and I haven't had any problems with it randomly shutting down so I am a happy customer. Would take my computer here again. Turn around was quicker compared to what I would have gotten at the Apple Store. I thought the price was reasonable as well. I took my laptop to the Geek Squad at Best Buy (in Gainesville) and they had me pay 149.00 up front. They had my laptop for a week, running different tests on it and even erasing my data. It wasn't ready when they had told me it should be ready. Finally when I go to pick it up, they told me they didn't know how to fix it and they would have to ship it to HP which would cost more money. So I got my computer back and luckily they gave me a refund. So I took my laptop to Austin Tech and they only had my laptop for around 4 days, and during that time they found out what the problem was and fixed it. It only cost 105 and they didn't even have to wipe all my data off my laptop (although there wasn't much on it after the Geek Squad wiped it). This place was way quicker and cheaper and less of a hassle than the Geek Squad. I am very satisfied with my experience with them and would give them more than 5 stars if I could. read more
