Germaine is an artist. He does fantastic work. His designs are some of the best in the city of Austin. Highly recommend him for bathroom remodels and kitchen remodels. As an aside.... People that give negative reviews of contractors who never hired them to do any work for them seem incredibly petty to me. I don't understand the mind set of someone looking at dozens of pictures of high end bathroom and kitchen remodels and thinking, "that's who I'll call about my siding project." All the superlatives and endorsements in other 5-star reviews here are absolutely correct and warranted. Germaine is a whiz at what he does. He's knowledgeable, resourceful, honest, professional, collaborative, creative, perfectionist and funny. I had occasion to see some of his other projects in progress and they were all top notch. I saw someone compared Germaine to a surgeon, which I can see why from several experiences with him. He might be a talented surgeon for remodeling, but for repairs, I'd describe him as an extremely experienced internal doctor, who knows exactly what is going on inside of a house. Before finding Germaine, I assumed all handymen would come to see a problem first, and they would go to Home Depot to purchase whatever needed, then finally fixed things. Of course, the time they spent coming to your place, going back and forth to a hardware store will be all on your bill. However, Germaine diagnoses issues just by looking at pics, and when he arrives, he walks in with the parts (if necessary) ON HIS HAND, and starts fixing it right away! And the best part is that Germaine fixes things permanently, whereas my previous handymen tended to give temporary adjustments. It's like good doctors identify core issues, rather than giving pain killers. So, when you contact him, expect he'd ask you to email pictures of the problem. Then he will reply you with the EXACT cause of the issue, cost, and a range of time/date he could visit you. For small repairs, he may also give you a brief instruction if you are willing to do it by yourself, instead of charging for simple jobs (I fixed my kitchen sink disposal and a toilet before with his guidance). The last thing I'd like to share is that he also stands by his work. Once he fixed a shower leak, but I saw it was still leaking slightly and contacted him. He suspected the part was defected, came with a new part, which was about $50 out of his pocket, and replaced it right away with no charge. That was about 2 years ago, and the shower is still in a great condition. Whenever Germaine visits us, my husband and I are pleasantly surprised how knowledgeable he is about mechanics of a house. I bet he could build an entire house all by himself. read more

Germaine is the combination of an extremely talented orthopedic surgeon and equally skilled plastic surgeon in the home remodeling world (I work in the medical field). He's a perfectionist with fantastic design ideas. He spent the past month remodeling my bathroom in my house that was built in 1951. Germaine of Austin Maintenance was recommended by a friend as a responsible, capable and reasonably priced source for home repair and remodeling. The scope of my experience with him -- all positive -- has been for repairs and chores 'round the house that are outside of my skill set. He is much, much better than other handymen I tried before him who were sometimes inept, unreliable or overpriced. I highly recommend Austin Maintenance. Among the many things he did in two visits in August were assembly of furniture and a complex armoire, mounting of a plasma TV (at a much better price than Best Buy et al), hanging several huge (60" x 60") framed pieces of art, adjusted a warped window, repair maladjusted window shades, applied weather stripping to doors, repair outdoor barbeque and filled in decaying wood on the porch. He provided a professionally detailed invoice and accepted PayPal. So he is good. Note: Yesterday Germaine came over immediately to unclog our food disposal and kitchen sink - a God-send as Thanksgiving holiday starts tomorrow and we never would have been able to get someone here. He is very busy due to the fact that everyone wants to use him, so he does everything in his power to get the project scheduled in a timely manner. Austin Maintenance rebuilt the tile enclosure for our bathtub and did a wonderful job--especially considering how we aren't currently in Austin and did all communication by phone, email, and text. We are at our home in Austin only seasonally and while we are away we rent the house to short-term tenants. While a tenant was there the tile soap dish in the tub enclosure fell off the wall. Didn't seem like a big deal. We had a handyman come out to fix it, and bad news--years of leaky grout had rotted all of the boards beneath the tile. Based on Yelp reviews, I called Austin Maintenance. They came out super quickly and made a temporary repair (that was better than expected) while preparing a quote. Designing a project is tough as it is, especially when doing it remotely. Fortunately, communication with Austin Maintenance was timely and made what seemed to be impossible, possible. We picked out tile and plumbing in Detroit and had it delivered to a local tile store, where the crew picked it up and brought it to the house. Even more challenging was the timeline. We had only about 48 hours between tenants. The crew started at 4 p.m. on a Sunday and wrapped up around noon on Tuesday. Truly impressive. read more

We have now used Austin Maintenance twice - I cannot say enough good about them. Our first project was..well..not..typical shall we say. Long story short, our new groovy washer and dryer wouldn't fit through the opening into our laundry room - I know, don't say it. Austin Maintenance didn't even flinch. Germaine remodeled my 917 square foot condo and I am extremely please with the job. He took out a wall, removed a popcorn ceiling, put in new floors, tiles, baseboards and installed a sliding glass door, a window, new ceiling fans and painted the entire interior and built a deck. I can't recommend Germaine highly enough. He's not just highly skilled and professional, he's also honest and has great taste. He just completely redid our bathroom, taking a huge amount of initiative because we weren't quite sure what we wanted. He had us send him pictures of things we liked so that he could get a sense of our style, and then basically picked out every element for us, even showing us plans for a custom vanity and cabinet that a subcontractor was building for him in another bathroom he was doing that could be replicated for us (and it was, beautifully). We actually had the whole thing done while we were away and came back to a new room that we immediately loved, totally in our style. He kept to his budget and then went above and beyond, even offering to help us with some other household things that weren't in order. He won't want to do anything but top-quality work, and doesn't like to skimp on materials, but it's so refreshing to have someone who takes pride in his work, that we wound up feeling like we got a great deal even though we wound up spending more than we initially, probably unrealistically, hoped to. read more

We then had a large 2500+ square foot 4/2 house remodel that included a tear down to the dry wall, changing a half bath to a full, and opening the kitchen to the great room. Not only is he incredibly reasonably priced, but he also provides excellent design input, does quality workmanship, has a small well run crew, and good subcontractor relationships, and he is also timely (completed our entire house remodel in 4 months). We had two separate major water events in our house about 3 months apart. Bith caused by pluming isseus on the second floor that caused damage to both floors. We now have a marvelous remodeled master bath and a remodeled kitchen. In addition he handled all of the damaged sheet rock repair/replace, flooring installations, and on the way made suggestions beyond our vision that really added. He was unbelievably professional and tolerates nothing less than perfection. it is very evident that he really knows his stuff. His pricing was extremely competitive and there were times when we had to be out of town that I turned over the keys confident in the trust I had in him.
