I had such a fun time here! I do think this location is more for professionals, or avid climbers…read more There are no belays, just bouldering! We got a day pass for $28 each and since it was our first time we got free rental shoes. I didn't have time to check out the sauna, but it is included in the pass and I peaked inside and it was very nice. They also have a full gym and classes that are all included in your pass! We only spent 30 minutes there then went next door for food and coffee, but I went back after and some people were there for hours! I think the enjoyment level here depends on what you want to experience.

At the beginning of the school year we came every Saturday, but as schools gotten busier we havent been coming so frequently. It is the most affordable bouldering place ive ever been, they provide bandaids when you get scraped, have very attentive service, inclusive staff and events, and very kindly use sustainable paper towels at the handwashing station with high-quality lotion available after. They always provide chalk and shoes and I think the routes are super fun and also inclusive! I also like having the opportunity to use the other gym amenities with the daytime pass, and it is all kept very clean. One time I came in with a sprained ankle and used two punches because I thought my ankle wouldnt get in the way too much, but after a few minutes I realized it would and I didnt want to stay. They refunded my punches so now I have them for another time! I love this place and have brought almost everyone I know here with me. I would definitely recommend it.

Who doesn't like to be healthy? I do, but sometimes it's hard to do so in a way that's affordable…read moreand fun. For me the answer to this quandary is rock climbing as it is an affordable way to stay in tip-top shape and each experience you have when climbing is unique. Moreover, rock climbing provides a full-body work-out. It helps to build lean muscle mass across the entire body, including forearms, biceps, shoulders, back, core, glutes, quads, hamstrings, and calves. The Mesa Rim Austin affords those who are seeking it an opportunity to get in shape, challenge themselves mentally and physically and get customized lessons for those who are just starting out. What's more is that this location also has general work-out equipment like ellipticals, stationary bicycles, free weights and treadmills. For the price of a monthly membership of $25.00, you can climb and have access to rock walls and gear as well as work out equipment and a dry sauna (that's a steal). The staff here is helpful and offers training for those new to rock climbing and provides guidance when you get 'stuck' and/or are unsure of how to maneuver. The facility is always clean and uncluttered with debris and has plenty of room for large groups of people so you won't feel claustrophobic when here. In coming here, I have also gained a new community as this location has a tight-knit community, making it easy to meet new people, find climbing partners, and form new friendships. If you can swing it and add rock climbing to at least 2 days per week to your health regimen, you won't regret it. #bewellcentraltexas

I will say that the front desk staff usually seems very busy, and compared to another climbing gym we frequent, we didn't feel super welcome (might have been because we came with a Groupon?). On our first visit, I had to ask where everything was -- there was no orientation or offer to show us around. I noticed that others were getting orientations, so this might be hit or miss. The bouldering space itself is quite spacious and has lots of different levels of challenge suitable for both kids and adults. There was lots of padding, and I really like the central "rock" island where you can actually climb on top of it. I would say I feel a little intimidated to visit for more than the bouldering, given the fact that the staff doesn't seem overly welcoming and friendly.

Honestly, that's bad business practice. You're basically asking people to pay $30 upfront, risking them deciding not to stay--and potentially losing out on a full monthly membership. It's a tiny fee for them, but it's a huge turn-off for anyone genuinely interested. If a business can't trust people enough to offer a real trial experience, I'm not willing to hand over my money. There are plenty of gyms that actually want to earn your membership, not scare it away. No thanks.

I like that there is an on-site coffee shop and food truck, and plenty of outdoor space to relax, in addition to additional gym spaces upstairs and downstairs. The front desk staff always seems very helpful -- if you're new to the gym, they'll happily give you a tour, and the introduction to climbing with a harness was very helpful. The gym has a variety of self-belay climbs that you can do, which is what we've stuck to so far. I do find the animal-themed ratings a little difficult to understand. Also, I would say most of the climbs--even the "sloth" rated ones--are a little more challenging that I'm used to (both for belay and bouldering). For our birthday party, they actually reserved the entire kids' room just for our party, which I thought was a fantastic deal. The kids' room is definitely not just for beginners, either. They patiently gave the group a lesson, and we had a dedicated guide for our entire party (he even gave latecomers their own lessons). The kids got to try pretty much all of the climbs, which took most of the 2 hours, before they got tired of the room and wanted to venture into the larger gym space. We were able to bring our own decorations, food, and beverages, and they supplied all the plates, forks, and tablecloths. Memberships and single day passes are a little on the pricey side, so I'm not sure how often we'll come back, but it is a really nice space, and I'm happy to have it available in our community.
