Austin bolder project is all around a great gym. They have so much to offer, classes, a full gym, climbing, sauna & cold plunge, all for a great price per month. I personally take the circuit classes 3-4 times a week and I would highly recommend them. The instructors are very knowledgeable, the programming is great, they do a proper warm up and cool down and they really make sure you understand the moves and know what you are doing. He's a great instructor and I really enjoy his classes: he gives all student feedback on the form and suggests corrections. Also overall, the monthly membership fee completely worth it if you take advantage of all the amenities. Just taking two fitness or yoga classes a week during the month makes it worth every dollar. This was the first bouldering gyn I went to back in 2021 and it still holds up well. They do change up the walls and have cool events quite often. The gym space itself is also really nice. Lots of pull up bars to use. Plus the hang out space is pretty spacious. You will almost always be able to find a seat and work if needed. No matter what, always buy your own shoes. The rental shoes there have zero grip and you will not climb as well. I've never done the classes or used the other services. But overall a good spot. Austin Bouldering Project was a great group activity in Austin. It feels like most days with friends inevitably lead to food or drink, so it was nice to be able to catch up that doesn't involve alcohol! A day pass is 25 dollars but even less if you're a student. I mostly don't love heights so I stuck with the lower difficulty climbs and it is a workout. Tbh everyone is friendly and supportive, but I think the heights and the falling just isn't for Me! read more

ABP is an amazing climbing gym. I am fortunate to have a few friends who climb here, so I am able to climb with the two free guest passes they get per month. I would love to get my own membership here, but it is very expensive, even with their student discount. This gym is great for beginner and intermediate climbers. I've noticed that there are more extensive beginner route options here compared to other gyms. Most of my advanced climber friends have migrated to Mesa Rim (newer and not busy) as ABP is so popular that it gets very crowded at peak times. They recently renovated the entire gym, so it has a new look to it. This is a large bouldering (no top rope) gym that also has MoonBoards, a full weight lifting gym, a yoga studio, and a kids' section. The second floor is great for studying as there are plenty of tables and seating with wifi. The locker room is huge and clean. I haven't tried them, but they have yoga classes and lots of fun social events like trivia nights. The community here is very friendly, and it is easy to chat with others for tips or to work on problems together. The closest parking lot fills up very quickly, but they have additional parking that is a little farther out. There is also a bit of street parking. read more

ABP was my first experience bouldering and I had a blast here! I got a day pass for $18 (young adult rate) which gave me access to climb (unsure if I was allowed to take a class here). I came in with three friends who were also new to bouldering. The front desk staff gave us free shoes, chalk, and gave us a brief orientation about how to fall, and explained the color wheel of climbing difficulty. This information was sufficient to guide us at ABP. I came on a Friday night and enjoyed the vibe of the gym late at night. It was not crowded but was also not empty. There was a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced climbers all together. I thought I would be intimidated by the advanced climbers, but there were plenty of welcoming people at the gym and the advanced climbing walls were a little separated from the beginner courses. I climbed walls that I did not think I could, I even was comfortable jumping down from the top even though it was scary at first! Overall this was a challenging but rewarding workout and it was a great activity to do with friends! Coming here inspired me to want to boulder more in the future. Inside the gym included the area with the climbing walls, classes, a gym area, and even it looked like a co-working/lounging space upstairs. I was impressed with how nice it looked inside and all that ABP had to offer! I would definitely come again and invite more friends. read more

I've accompanied my partner to ABP several times in the past year or so. He has a membership here and has really enjoyed using the climbing gym, sauna, and ice bath. The climbing portion of the gym is sizeable and looks well thought-out. Depending on what time you go, it can get really crowded. This gym also caters to a lot of young people (under 18), so keep that in mind when you go after school hours or on weekends. I can really only speak to the quality of the gym equipment portion of ABP, however, as I am not a climber myself. The traditional gym portion of ABP seems like more of an afterthought. It's definitely built out for climbing first, everything else second (which makes sense given the name of the place). Think: only 2 treadmills, 2 bikes, 2 ellipticles, 2 stair masters, 2 ergometers. It's hard to grab a spot on any of the machines, because chances are, both are in use. They are also typically covered in sweat marks and drops of fresh sweat, because people don't do a great job cleaning them. I will say that if you are someone who enjoys weight training more, there is plenty of space to do that. The weight training space is right next to the treadmills, and it must be 10x the size. The locker rooms are big and clean, and the sauna (at least in the women's locker room) is clean and enough for ~6 people to fit in. Bathrooms are well-kept, too. MISC: there is a work space on the second level where tons of people bring laptops to and get some work done. ABP also has free yoga + other classes for members, which is nice. Parking lot is big and free, too. All in all, this gym is good for people who like climbing as their main workout source. However, if you prefer running, weight training, etc., this is probably not the gym for you. read more

Austin Bouldering Project is the core foundation of climbing in Austin. When it first opened, it was a big space with high walls and incredible amount of diversity in the routes. When you walk in you can feel the energy of the youth working and growing together on routes. I've made a lot of my lifetime friends here and most often we all come back together to climb at this gym whenever we are in back in town. I recommend any beginner, medium, or advanced climber to check out the routes here because there is something for everyone. It's how I started too. read more

Yes, yes, yes! Austin Bouldering Project "ABP" makes fitness fun again! This was my first time climbing and ABP made it so easy. For first timers, you complete a liability waiver, & pay for the day pass ($15). The day pass has no time limit and includes a free shoe rental. Once you're in the system, shoe rentals are $4/session. Lots of wonderful padding across the gym that made me feel completely safe. If this is your first time, there are no harnesses involved such as rock climbing. This a great workout to sculpt your arms and back! Once you're a regular, you'll also start noticing they change out a portion of the space weekly to keep things interesting. Fantastic facility, for the price you pay you get so much (esp as a student) fitness & yoga classes, a good quality gym for a variety of weight training and cardio, a huge bouldering space w/ a good diversity of routes, 2 free guest passes a month and a shared workspace upstairs with a variety of super comfy seating options and fast wifi. I spend hours here i love it I can get a workout or climb in and then get some studying down. Having access to the other location in your membership is cool too but i primarily come here, the vibe and set up is a bit more enjoyable . The staff is super chill and welcoming. Bathrooms always maintained, huge and have access to showers and cold plunge on sundays. The scaling is inaccurate at best. It's overpriced. They've lost all their parking spots, not that they had many to begin with. They overcharge members to borrow any type of gear, and the gym has been under "redesign" for months. If you want to overpay for a 1/4 finished gym check it out. Really loved ABP! I was in Austin for about two months and got a membership to ABP. I had limited climbing experience, and this was a great place to start. The staff are all so friendly, and the membership is really affordable, even for just a month at a time. The space has a coworking space with hammocks, couches, and tables (the wifi is pretty slow, though). There is a complete gym, a huge bouldering space, a yoga room, and locker rooms with showers and a sauna. I loved acro here! It was such a cool way to be introduced to a pretty intimidating form of yoga. Cant recommend or express my appreciation for this place enough! read more

Our family was looking for some fun physical activity we could do all together and found out this was a fairy close-by facility! Their parking lot is a bit small for the amount of people that come here, but there are neighboring streets and lots that you can go to and walk back over. You can prepare ahead of time by signing their waiver online to skip any lines and let staff have an easier time - students get a discount so bring your ID! This place is ENORMOUS from my bouldering standards, with varying levels for all people to enjoy and try (my parents came and finished a good amount!!) One of the things I don't like about climbing gyms is how crowded it can get because people are waiting on routes, but there was never a time where I had to wait here! Really great setters that work at this place, as there were many times I found myself doing fun moves to finish the boulders. They also have a gym section I believe, as well as a training area in the middle of the bouldering gym - there's a climbing treadmill you should check out!! Super clean and open facility, would definitely recommend coming here whether you're a beginner or advanced climber - there's something for everyone to try! read more

Let me just start by saying my only gripe about ABP is the route level postcards could be replaced with posters to save paper. It's not necessary and no one is realistically going to carry that around while climbing. Picture for reference :) Prices are reasonable especially if you're a student! Chalk bags can be rented but they tend to run out quickly. The facility is clean, the shoes aren't that worn down, and my hands don't turn black when I'm climbing. It's actually a problem when I climb at high traffic places. The routes are extremely fun yet challenging! Currently, there's a baby's face on the wall for a purple route.... keep Austin weird? Gym is spotless and full of different bands, ropes, foam rollers, weights, etc. to keep in top shape. It can get a crowded during peak hours though. I have yet to try the yoga or fitness classes but that's available for no additional cost. Ladies!! The restroom has hair ties, tampons, hair tools (yes, curling irons, hair straighteners, blow dryers), and a sauna. Why would you want to leave this place? My favorite thing about ABP isn't what I mentioned above. Nope. After an intense workout and climb, I can walk right over to Austin Eastciders and reward myself with a nice, refreshing cider. ABP often hosts special nights for a discounted rate and freeee beer! It's a blessing and a curse. read more

(Summary at bottom) I've been here once before and while visit Austin again yesterday I decided to go and bring along my sister who has never climbed before. From the beginning the experience was flawless. They still follow very strong covid processes (I.e. required masks and a really cool forehead scanner for body temp) which many, including myself, appreciate. Once our temps were checked we went to the counter to rent shoes and purchase day passes. The employee working there was so nice and helpful just as they have been before. She also allowed me to show my parents around as they wanted to see the gym but not climb. Once in the gym, there are endless problems that require everything from 0 experience and strength to problems that would likely challenge pros. These difficulty levels are organized by the color of the holds which makes it incredibly easy to understand and follow. This was great as I could warm up, practice on ones I could do, and also push myself far above my limits. The other great thing about ABP is that they change their problems every week so you're constantly being fed new challenges. This gym also includes a full workout facility, multiple classes, a large space for kids, recreation space to hangout or work on a computer, and more. The atmosphere is beyond welcoming and energetic while also being a calm and relaxing place to hangout. While the gym is sometimes busy, I never found myself waiting to climb as there is so much wall space with all difficulty levels on each wall. ABP has truly built the perfect bouldering gym! I mostly climb at gyms out west but have heard of the Bouldering Project gyms all over. I know they have their own style of bouldering, but honestly this one has a gimmicky style that makes the boulders mostly bland. I took a friend and they noticed the footless starts, goofy dynos, and sharp volumes. Hardly anything worth repeating. There's better gyms out there without the soccer mom music. read more

I love ABP! Going here is like a second home. The first of many good things about ABP is how often they change out their routes. They have a map of where they change out routes so if you come every week there's always something new to work on. The yoga classes here are also great and there's always a variety between the classes. I've tried their Vinyasa I + II, Yoga for Climbers, and Acro-Yoga (while they were piloting it) and all the classes were great and well-paced. I've also tried their Barre class which was a nice change of paced and provided a nice workout! The facility is nice because it's so spacious and the gym is fully equipped along with a nice study/work area on the upper floor. The staff is always really helpful and nice if you need anything. Parking can be tricky if it's during a busy hour but there's plenty available. in the front, main or back lots. read more

My other favorite climbing spot in Austin! This is such a great spot and would recommend it over Crux if you're looking to start climbing. The reason why I say that is because I feel as though they are more "beginner friendly" vs Crux. I know Crux has some beginner routes but these just hit differently haha... The pay is around the same as crux as well. I think their pricing went up during covid. Had to pay $20 for a day pass. They also have punch pass options and memberships. (discounts for students) They also have an indoor gym and classes (yoga) you can take advantage of as well. I love taking my friends here who are trying to get into climbing and just wants to do it casually! I know that even for more serious climbers they'd come here as well but think it's more on preference on crux vs ABP! read more

This place is amazing! So much fun to come on every Wednesday morning. The parking lot in front is usually busy so I would directly park in the back, there're more spots available. It's not very busy during weekdays, but still you can see groups of people bouldering there. They changed the circuits every week so you can never get bored. I just came here 4 times in total but totally love bouldering already. It's really clean and well organized inside. And if you want to come more frequently, it's better to buy punch card and your own climbing shoes. I bought my shoes at REI, because you need to try those shoes on to see if they fit you well, I've done a unsuccessful purchase through Amazon, but ended up returning that order... overall I strongly recommend this place! Parking sucks. The staff is rude, they seem personally irritated to have to turn their attention away from their computers to make eye contact and to take your money. The place is not family friendly. I brought my two kids, 12 and 9. I got charged the adult price for both kids. After being there for 45 minutes I got chewed out by a mullet-ed and ironically mustachioed employee for being on a bench while my daughter was climbing on the other side of the wall (btw my kids are way better at climbing then most of the people there 3-4 times their age). Standing on the pads makes my back hurt and I needed a break. Meanwhile, on other occasions I have been there and spoke to the owner while my kids climbed and I wasn't given any flack about not being on the pads. Crux is laid out so much easier for me to stay near my kids without having to stand awkwardly on the pads and staff are much cooler to people who are under 20 and over 40. Unfortunately, since its so far from my house we have had to resort to going to the other climbing gym in the area. I loved the vibe of the place, everyone was so friendly and helpful. The set up is fun and easy to pick up how the color wheel works. I also like how clear it is when they change up the walls. These are all things that the other gym does not come to par. Lovely climbing gym in Austin! I had some time to kill on a Saturday afternoon, so I visited for a few hours. They have so much climbing space! More wall space than my climbing gym in Dallas. I got a $18 day pass + $5 rental shoes. Unfortunately, the rental shoes are very slippery, so it limited my climb quite a bit, but still had a great time! And the yoga studio is so cute! Very high ceilings, well-ventilated (feels really nice when you're flowing!), good acoustics so the instructor's voice is clearly heard. They also provide mats, blankets, and blocks, as well as cleaning supplies. I also checked out the fitness area, which has some weights, mats, equipment. In the bathroom, there are lockers with keypads, sauna, and showers. There is also a mezzanine space to chill, hang out, study, read, eat. read more

I joined Austin Bouldering Project a couple of weeks ago, and I really love it. The prices are reasonable. You can buy a day pass for $18, which gives you full access to the gym, a 10 day punch card for $150 (which is essentially a discounted bundle of day passes), or a membership. I knew I wanted to go regularly, so I bought a monthly membership. There's a $40 starting fee, and after that it is $75/month. That costs more than, say, L.A. Fitness, but you're getting an awful lot for the money. There is a robust training area if you want to focus on strength training, a yoga studio with regular classes, and of course the bouldering area itself. As a member, you also get discounts on equipment from the shop and have the option of charging things to your tab, which is then charged to your credit card at the end of the month. There's also a sauna, which is great after a few hours of bouldering. I am fairly new to bouldering, but what I can say is that there are plenty of problems at a variety of skill levels, which means that there are plenty of problems I can handle and plenty of problems I can't. That's great, as it gives me something to look forward to. I was nervous about joining because I'm not in great shape, and I always associated a specialty gym like this with serious people. It is certainly true that the people I see at ABP seem to be more generally enthusiastic about fitness than people at other gyms I've gone to, but I have to emphasize that everybody is kind and respectful. The staff is helpful and the other members are there to work out and have fun. I've recently started attending yoga classes here as well, and again I would say that everybody is kind. My first time bouldering ever and I loved it! There are so many different challenges or "problems" as they call it and they change something up every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. They have several levels of difficulty all laid out throughout the gym and even though there is a lot of people, it is fairly easy to find a problem to do without having to wait in a line. The mats are extremely thick and cushiony and even though I'm afraid of heights and was afraid of hurting myself via falling, once I saw how safe everything was, my fear was diminished. Everyone is very supportive here, cheering each other on to reach the top or happy to offer pointers if need be. The people here are very much part of the techie millenial crowd. I just LOVE coming to ABP!! It gives such fun vibe and they have everything that you could ask for - yoga classes, weight room, study area, and nice lockers. I got my monthly membership with a student discount for around $65 and if you could make it to ABP once a month, you will get it back. Plus I like how you could spend the whole day in it if you wanted to. They change the wall structure every 2 weeks so you will never get bored of it too.
