Rock-About Climbing Adventures and our guide, Russell, were excellent. I would use them again in a minute. I trusted them with my teen-age son (and myself) and they did not disappoint. We had very limited climbing experience--limited primarily to artificial walls we climbed on vacations, school retreats, rock scrambles on mountain hikes, and the like. As our first experience top-roping on granite, we could not have enjoyed it more. We learned a lot, pushed ourselves, met nice people, and created a wonderful memory. I can recommend Rock-About and Russell without reservation. Now, I would like for my wife to climb with them. Back to Texas, I guess!

This is a long review. Trust is not easily given when it comes to the safety of your children. I had read the reviews and spoke directly to Adam, the owner operator of Rock-About Climbing. Adam set my mind at ease with his years of experience and the training program of his instructors. One of the key elements is you know your child best. Do they listen and follow instructions, are the respectfully to themselves and to others? This will have a huge impact on the child's camp experience. I have twin boys who are good listeners and eager for challenges, yet are comfortable to say I'm not ready to take it to the next level without shame. My sons attended camp twice this year. They had amazing experience both times. They were full of stories to share with us at dinner. Adam and Chris (Lead guide instructor) are wonderful working with kids and teaching them skills and techniques for climbing. They have a strong emphasis on safety and listening to instructions. Be prepared to hear stories of push ups or jumping jacks if you step on a rope, walk underneath a climber or don't follow instructions. This IS NOT a drop your child off and pick up at the end of the day and whatever happens-happens camp. You know your child best so please make sure they're emotionally mature enough to listen, be respectful and want to learn. It's your child and our child safety and experience on the line. Our boys had a fantastic time despite a few challenging students. I give Chris so much respect and gratitude how he handled a challenging participant. On the last day they take the students to Enchanted Rock for their final climbs. One of my boys, whom I thought it would have been his twin brother who did this climb, made it to the TOP of the 70 foot rock face. His eyes literally sparkled as he told us about the view from the top and the lake he saw. He admitted he was scared at times, he would take a deep breath and tell himself, I've got this. My other son was fatigued from the heat and listened to his body. He made it 1/2 up the epic wall. He was not shamed by the instructor. He was congratulated on listening to what felt appropriate for him during that moment. The highlight of the day was the Snow Cones at EnchantedRock after a hot day of baking in the sun. I highly recommend this camp for their expertise, attention to safety and passion for teaching. Prepare your child with proper hydration. Most importantly be respectfully to other campers not to send your child if their not emotionally or mature enough to listen and be respectful. This is not a boot camp or drop off & pickup kinda camp. My sons are hooked and look forward to climbing with Chris and Adam again. They asked me if they could climb with them again next week?!?!

Rock-About Climbing Adventures did a fabulous job at introducing my two kids to rappelling. The safety of my family was top priority and they provided a wonderful experience, which has left us wanting more! Our guide, Adam, was attentive, informative, and (hard to find these days) a good listener. He paid attention to us and our conversations and referred back to it all throughout our time together. That personal gesture added so much to our experience and made us feel special. Thank you Adam!

My boyfriend and I were visiting Austin for the first time last March and among food trucks, music venues and bar hopping downtown we wanted something unique to round out our visit.....enter Rock-About. Neither of us had ever climbed before (save for a trip with girl-scouts at age 10) so we were a little anxious to start with an all day outdoor excursion. Luckily we had an amazing instructor 'Bird Dog' who took us through safety training, led us up Enchanted rock with his comedic relief and had an incredible day of climbing in the sun. We opted for 101 Basic Rock Climbing which was perfect - there are 5-6 different rocks to climb depending on where you end up on the dome, all with varying levels of difficulty from easy to moderate. I really like to push myself physically and ended up with the moderate climbs which were perfect for my first day and felt like I got the most out of it. I strongly recommend this to locals and visitors alike - it's an incredible experience (even if you're not the most outdoorsy/adventurous type) you will not be disappointed.

I was not in a Namaste frame of mind when I got to Hiking Yoga Saturday morning. I'm slightly…read moreashamed to say, I was a bit hungover and I had contemplated feeding my hangover tummy with breakfast tacos on the way to the session. Quite by accident, I found out at the last minute (they called late last nite while my phone was off) that our session had been changed from the north location (Bull Creek Park) to the South (Barton Creek Greenbelt). I was frantically trying to re-orient myself and my grrl on the new location, my belly was grumbling (hubby gave me a Clif bar-f), and my sis was visiting and was trying to catch up with me while I google mapped. Me and my grrl were about one breath away from saying screw it at 7:30 that morning. I am so glad we didn't miss it. We got there on time and the meetup point was easy to find. I am VERY ashamed to say, after living in Austin for 20+ yrs, that I have never been on the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Partly because it seems so vast and confusing on where to park, where to start, etc. So, while the location change was initially confusing, I was very happy that I was forced to figure this out and now I know at least this leg of the trail. We "put in" at the Scottish Woods trailhead and hiked to Twin Falls (well, until we get rain, Big Rocks), stopping a total of three times to do yoga (about a 3 mile hike). I was actually a little nervous that I wouldn't be in good enough shape for this adventure but it was not terribly strenuous. The trail is rough with lots of rock and roots, so wear good shoes. And the yoga was very simple. Nothing too crazy until our last stop when we partnered up, stood back to back, locked arms and lifted our partner up on our backs. Seemed impossible but was such a great lower back stretch. I will say that doing yoga in gravel ain't easy. I unavoidably widened my stance too much on warrior pose as my foot kept sliding in the rocks. ouch. Our instructor, Chelsea, and her "assistant adjustor" Abe, were very sweet and enthusiastic. There were several in the group with little to no yoga experience (mine is slight as well) and looking around as we posed, there were some who were waay off and were not corrected. It's probably hard to keep an eye on everyone spread out in the woods and the gravel was not ideal, but we got the impression that this was more about getting outside and enjoying Austin than about proper yoga technique. Chelsea was a great instructor tho. We finished up on a rocky ledge overlooking a pond and stream, meditating and listening to the frogs and birds and the breeze in the trees and on our warmed-by-the-sun skin. And as Chelsea quietly intoned "Let's just meditate and be thankful we can spend our morning in this beautiful place with others that feel the same way." I felt the calm wash over me and got a little teary eyed. I'd found my Namaste frame of mind.

The group meets the instructor at the Barton Creek Greenbelt sign and for the next 90 minutes you have the opportunity to take in the serene beauty of the greenbelt. The instructor leads the group through the trail and stops a few times to do poses like standing sun salutations, balancing poses, and various warrior poses. All the yoga is done standing so no mat is needed. Talking is not discouraged during the hiking portion of the class. Make sure to save some energy for the end. It is unbelievably more challenging getting back up the Hill of Life as it was coming down! Hiking yoga was the perfect change of pace I was seeking the two classes I attended. The area is so beautiful, water flowing over the rocks and green is prominent even in the winter months. Other hikers, bikers and swimming dogs kindly share the park. Be sure to make room to let them pass. Note: The park does not have a parking lot. There is however ample street parking.

This is only my second review on yelp as I usually only do this if I am passion it about something. I wanted to share my experience in hopes you will experience the same... On my first visit at the studio my trainer Shane Selberg, spent time helping me get specific with my training goals. He took the time to understand my likes and dislikes as well as the sports I enjoy. He made it very clear that all of this is important when looking at the big picture. After we discussed goals it was time for my measurements. I don't usually enjoy this part of the session, but Shane made me feel very comfortable and was very professional. He used ultrasound to check my body fat percentage as well as percentage of water. I was surprised to find out I still don't drink enough water. :) After reviewing all of his results with me, we revisited my goals to see if they were in align with my data. In my case they were. On to the workout...I loved it! Don't get me wrong it was not easy but it was FUN! Shane trains like no other trainer I have had in the past. Squats on a balance board, hula hooping to Michael Jackson...how could you not have fun! With the fun comes motivation, encouragement and inspiration! Just when I was beginning doubt myself, Shane had words to encourage those last few reps. Not only did he encourage me, he educated me on why he trains the way he does. This really helped me wrap my mind around the big picture. They offer Yoga, Kettle Bell and Boot Camps, I am excited to try them. There are no contracts at 5 fitness and they customize each program to fit the individual. I am looking forward to continuing with this Elite group of professionals and look forward to trying some of the other classes. You have nothing to lose by visiting 5 fitness! Everything I mentioned above is included in your initial visit and the cost is zero. Do it, I promise you won't be disappointed.
