I recently had the privilege of supporting a good friend in hosting a free Texas Native or Adaptive Plant Swap - OR Buy-Back. It was my own first experience with such, tho I've often been "gifted" with Native Texas plants or trees, or traded for them.
It was held right here and is repeated annually in early Spring. It is a true and simple nature park with quality, in-town hiking. The "organizer" also helped totally "rehab" this lovely Western Oaks Karst Preserve, along with professionally trailed "trail" and Natives" volunteers who want to to support this process.
It is a LOVELY setting, beautifully cared about, and as such has been providing many with both the gratification of spending quality hiking and visiting time peaceably and in beauty.
Now...keep in mind, ALL this was done both with volunteered time and materials and good-will, "sourced" foliage or donated, quality seeds. At almost every Season now, you'll immediately see and sense the fine results.
The Karst Preserves "sign" is subtle but once you've been there you won't miss it. It is on a major corner just west of your turn onto Davis Lane if you are coming off MoPac South. Parking is free on the street or in many cases in non-busy times, across the street where there is commercial (also free) parking. read more
