Came here last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. We have a few restrictions among our friends, gluten free, vegetarian, and pescatarian. We were able to order quite number of dishes to satisfy all the requirements that we had. Service was great and professional. Presentation is really awesome to the point that I forgot to take pictures! Food taste great! A few Indian friends informed me that the taste is so so and it is over price, but I find that to be not true. I enjoyed the food and the prices I think is quite reasonable in the Bay Area. All the food here was super amazing. It's a twist on classic indian food. I loved the pork dosa tacos and the spiral chat. Apricot kofta was creamy and savory and delicious. The spiral potato is a classic twist on a chaat and it was so fun to eat. The pulled pork dosa used a dosa as the tortilla and was such an interesting spin. Will be back! read more

This was our second time trying out Aurum and twice we had a good experience. Since the weather was nice on both occasions we always sat outside. The restaurant is in a cozy albeit busy neighborhood which does come with random pedestrians walking by your table and staring at your plate. Food was very tasty. They really want to emphasize they are modern and besides funny names for their dishes, this also translates into their creativity. They take the traditional Indian dishes and give it a twist, sometimes quite literally like the Mr Potato. Their paneer lasagna is definitely a treat. They offer a lot of good drinks as well. If you get around to doing desert, the chocoholic is delicious. Table service is smooth and attentive. My only feedback really is that the host was somewhat abrasive. When we came in and mentioned we had a reservation at 7pm (we were 5 minutes early), the host misunderstood and thought we said for 7. They looked very confused and answered they did not have one for 7 people. We explained and the reaction was slightly passive aggressive indicating we made a mistake whilst it was the other way around. I can't quite remember our interaction the first visit but when I noticed it was the same person I remembered feeling that the host was not the most cordial. read more

Aurum never disappoints. My friend and I were craving Indian food (well, maybe not so much for my friend) and we decided to dine in at Aurum mid week. We were swiftly seated and found ourselves in the middle of what looked like a heavy round of dating scene at the tables around us. Got started with a mocktail given the driving needs! And trust me, it didn't feel like a compromise. (Thanks, Aurum). The drink was well done with a balance of flavors and spice, sans the alcohol. 8/10 The potato crisps, aka Mr Potato, was well done. If you're not a fan of crispy potato wafers, you might want to skip this. The potato skewer had a nice base of chaat ragda (chick pea kinda thing, I guess). I'd give this a 6/10. For entree, we ordered garlic naan and apricot kofta. Both were a 10/10. Truly. We wrapped it up with a dessert. Chocoholic which is basically chocolate rasmalai. But hey, don't let the rasmalai part fool you, like it it for my friend. The dessert is almost like a chocolate mousse with the goodness in notes from rasmalai. Had a chance to try out Aurum for my parents anniversary, and so glad I did! This is a beautiful upscale Indian restaurant that serves food from all parts of India - and they did a great job of it. I made a reservation here for around 7:30pm and once we got there we were quickly seated. The ambiance was calming and they lit a candle on the table which was nice. Once seated we ended up ordering: *Trio of chicken Kabob - this came with three different types of kabob, the chicken was soft and succulent and we loved all the different flavors. The plating was also fantastic * Fish curry (Nemo) - this was a halibut fish curry, which we enjoyed. The fish was made soft with the skin crispy, and as we kept eating it (with rice) we ended up enjoying the flavor more and more * Kosha mangsho - this was a lamb curry and is a Bengali delicacy (part of India that I am from). We thoroughly enjoyed this with garlic naan *Mushroom butter chicken (Two Good) - this was the table favorite! The chicken was soft and juicy and came in a bowl covered with a pastry puff. The curry was delicious and creamy and gave a nice light twist to butter chicken. I would get this again * thandai panna cotta - for dessert we got this dessert from their Holi Special menu and this was yummy. It was a soft pudding like texture, not too sweet and flavorful. The pistachios on the top added an amazing crunch. We finished this quickly to say the least Overall, really enjoyed the food at Aurum, we were also able to meet and talk to the chef who spoke to us about how he curated the menu and background on the restaurant. This was the most delicious Indian food I've had. All of the flavors of the dishes were perfect and not overwhelming. All six of us enjoyed every single dish. Our server was so polite and provided suggestions of what to order as the menu at this Pan-Indian restaurant has a non-standard assortment of creative and inspired food. I adore the creative names for each of the dishes! Who isn't going to order Mr. Potato... and you definitely should, it's not to be missed! I was trying to find items that were raved about by other yelpers that some items were not on the menu. When I asked, our waiter explained that the menu changes every six months. We ordered: Singju - Lotus root salad with beans and hemp seeds - verrry hot - I'd order it again but ask to dial down the red pepper just a touch. Mr. Potato - spiral cut potato on a skewer deep-fried played it on a delicious savory sauce... excellent! I'm not Pasta - definitely for fans of paneer & spinach, like me. Two Good- mushroom butter chicken served under a crust of puff pastry - golden umami goodness, would order again! Dal makhni - side dish of beans, sufficiently tasty. Save room for dessert! They have several creative, tempting options! We enjoy the toffee pudding. This Indian restaurant had such a wide array of dishes, there were something for everyone, but not as much for vegetarians. Several dishes with lamb, seafood, chicken, etc. The service was excellent at the restaurant! After the appetizers, they swapped out our plates for clean ones. Stopped by for lunch earlier today and was very impressed! The food tasted amazing and the ambience wasn't bas either. I tried their lunch special which was worth the $30 price - it included an appetizer, an entree with bread and rice as well as dessert. The naan was very soft and fresh - which is rare in the bay. Paneer tikka was soft and flavorful. Apricot kofta was perfect - the gravy did not have too much butter or cream - which is actually a good thing. For dessert, I liked the gulab jamun better than kheer. Kheer had an almond flavor in the cream which I personally am not a fan of. Service was good. I heard about the chef on the food network in the episode when he beat Bobby Flay. Since then I have been wanting to try the winning spinach and cottage cheese dish. So I did. It's called I'M NOT PASTA - spinach paneer lasagne and it's everything I thought it would be. Additionally we tried SMOKEY - jhalmuri This is a take on the traditional puffed rice mixture. There is some smokiness infused in the jar and the taste is enhanced with mustard oil and I tasted some hint of wasabi peas. A little spicy for me but delicious. MR. POTATO - potato spiral chaat. This is fried potato served with garbanzo beans curry. It's mildly spiced and tastes good. SIVAS - apricot kofta. This has very little sauce but the kofta dumpling just melts in your mouth. Lastly the dessert chocolate rasamalai. It was the Cherry on the top of our meal. It had some chocolate mousse, some dark chocolate and some rasamalai. All in layers. And every bite was delicious. I bookmarked this place ages ago and finally went for dinner on Saturday night. We reserved a table online and only outdoor seating was available. We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation and were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy, but it got pretty packed as the night went on. Right from the start, this place didn't scream "upscale" to me, except for their prices. The overall dining experience was pretty ordinary. For drinks, we ordered Green with Envy, Tango in Goa, and Pomelo Paani. Our appetizers were Brassica Beats, Gilroy & Punch. For mains, we had Moga, Revive, Rice, Garlic Naan, Laccha Paratha, and finished with Ghevar. The drinks and food were just okay, maybe because I had high expectations. The ambience is fantastic. Very welcoming and cheerful. In some ways it made me hungrier(?) I started with a martini and fried okra. The okra was cooked well, was crispy and the spices were just playing with my taste buds in a nice way! Followed it up with chicken biryani, which to me is always a go to dish in an Indian restaurant. Aurum made it better with the flavorful rice and well cooked and succulent chicken pieces. I had the opportunity to go to Aurum for a work event and it was an awesome experience. We ordered several appetizers: roasted cauliflower, fried chicken, lamb chops and more. They were all delicious: the chicken literally crackles as you cut bites, but is super juicy, the cauliflower was perfectly cooked, just a little crunch, and the lamb as well as the romanesco cauliflower it comes with were great. Our mains were similarly expansive: chicken biriyani, and "spinach lasagna" were the standouts. Fun story: the "I'm not pasta" dish is the one Chef Manish beat Bobby Flay with, and it's so good. This chef beat Bobby Flay! Chef Manish Tyagi's menu features delicious Indian food paired with local California produce. I love the "I'm Not Pasta" (Spinach Paneer Lasagne), which is the winning dish from the show. It has brown garlic, fenugreek leaves, and mozzarella and is really delicious! The "Dum Khumb" (Mushroom Pot Pie) is another favorite and includes chantrelle, shiitake, oyster mushrooms, and lababdar sauce. The sauce is savory and tasty, and it's topped with a flakey crust. When served at your table, your server will mix it up for you. It goes great with some naan for dipping! The Rockstar (Curried Lobster) had nice presentation, but personally, I wasn't really a fan of the flavor. For appetizers, I highly recommend the Cali (Artichoke Chaat). The artichoke was slightly crispy, and the sauces paired perfectly with it! Definitely get this! I enjoyed the Indian take on their Arancini. They had lentils, bell pepper, coulis, and a papaya relish. For desserts, the Toffee Pudding and Ghevar are the way to go! Food overall 3/5 The starters were really below average 1. Spiral Potato Chat - the spiral potato didn't work for me with the ragda and the rest of the dish. Looked pretty but taste was meh. 2. Cali chaat - the fried artichokes were good but again the combination of those with yogurt and chutneys didn't taste right to me. Mains: 1.Raga kofta - the kofta was decent, the gravy was ok. Nothing special to write about. The makhana/fox nuts were almost inedible. Note- the paneer spinach lasagna seemed to be the more popular choice, will try it next time. 1. Roti - no option of plain/butter naan. Roti was good. Desserts - this was the highlight of the dinner. Really well made desserts. 1. Ghevar- ghevar was delicious- light airy yet flavorful. The cream on top was also delicious with flavors of saffron. 2. Chocolate rasmalai - very tasty! The thin layer of chocolate on the rasmalai made the combination come alive. Service 5/5 The server was really patient with us when we asked about some ingredients in the dishes and was able to accommodate a change in one of the dishes. The service overall was very fast, the food kept arriving without a wait time. Ambiance 3/5 The ambiance is good but could have been great. Nice quality food and unique contemporary combinations. Smokey - Jhalmuri, a Smokey twist to the Kolkata classic. It has a strong Smokey flavor. If you enjoy that you'll love this. we went today for our Valentine dinner, thinking it being a "Michelin star" restaurant, it will give us a good experience. But it was the worst one from the beginning. They didn't have enough heaters for the outdoor seating, so choose to sit inside. 1. When we entered, we were just told that you can find the table on that side, the person just pointed towards the side. 2. there was no conversation, one person came and picked the candle on table and lighted it up. Not even a smile. 3. Order started coming and we got a first course from the list. We just asked about the item, we were told , " you choose the vegetarian option, it is vegetarian". 4. Another item came, I again asked about the dish, and again we were told that it is vegetarian. We were expecting to know what is made of but it looked like the server was not aware. it was a soup of broccoli and peas with something white on the top. The server said it is "cream". 5. I requested that we also asked for a coke and sprite. Then we received to empty glasses, with two closed cans And the server left. Being a Michele star restaurant, this was not expected. By this time, I was loosing my patience level. 6. There was no room on the table and another item came, we picked up the empty plates and the server kept the salad on the table and took the empty plates from us. 7. The plating of the salad was not same. This was it for me. the server was not around so I went to the person at the entry door to tell about the experience and show the difference in plating for the same salad. 8. The person had the audacity to tell that wait I am attending other customers. Then I had to say that "I guess we are also your customer". Then he came with me to our table and even after seeing the difference in plating, he was saying it is same salad. (To mention, salad was our least favorite out of all) 9. then after few minutes, Mr. Manish (the chef) came and asked about the concerns, we told him all the points. He saw tha difference in plating and told that being a busy day it would have happened (no change in plating, we still continued). He then explained about the dishes, the "cream" on top of the broccoli and peas soup was a puree and not cream. 10. Next item we received in the course was the entree, that was ok But we were provided with serving spoons to eat in place of regular spoons. 11. Now it was time for the dessert, being valentine day, they were only serving one dessert and again, the "cream with lemon zest " was really cream in my wife's plate, but in my plate, it was like frozen. I couldn't cut it from the spoon even after hard press. After raising the concern again, the server changed the plate. Not it was time for the check. 12. The preset price for the whole course was $199 and we received the bill of more that $265. Adding $40 for large guest count and when I asked about it, they say that we do this on all "special days", even for a couple. It could be just our experience, but it was not expected on a "special day". It was exceptionally bad experience. we would never go back and would never recommend anyone to try going there. Good and attentive service. Ambiance is questionable, loud and odd arrangement of tables. Food was good, but not great. The Two Good was tasty, but very little actual chicken or mushrooms. The bay area has a ton of Indian restaurants and I am usually skeptical when I see another new one. After dinner last night, I see Aurum as a good addition! They have a unique menu and tasty food. It was funny that I could smell the masala from a block away. If you are lost looking for them, just follow the smell. ;-) We sat outside to enjoy the weather and also avoid the cooties...the vid is still a concern though a smaller one these days. Our waiter was super nice and attentive. The panner tikka was good. The only disappointing dish was the ceviche, the salmon tasted very fishy and the sauce it came in was meh. The chicken biryani, kofta, and goat cheese/spinach parata were extremely good. The toffee pudding was a very good ending to the meal. Overall, a solid 4 stars! read more

We feel that this is the best Indian Michelin star restaurant in the Bay Area. They have brought back their "Cozy" (maggi) menu item. They had discontinued this item previously but it seems they changed their formula a little bit for this. We felt that it was better earlier. It had more burnt garlic kind of feel to it earlier. Now it's a bit more Rameny. The food is always absolutely delicious. We have tried many vegetarian options here over a period of past year. Their famous potato spiral chaat was okay we felt. Among the veggie appetizers, if they bring back their maggi with old formula that would be amazing. Among thei desserts, Ghevar is the best dessert we have tasted in Michelin starred Indian restaurants. Followed by the kulfi and then the chocolate rasmalai. Their service is always nice and always receptive to constructive feedback. They're always pleasant in their service. Table and chairs were were nit comfortable and not fit for this location and restaurant of this caliber. We choose to stay outside due to stlll COVID and nice weather. Started with appetizers Arincini and Mr. Potato, both were underwhelming, small quantity and taste was nothing special, my family commented their potato was little burnt. For the main course we had Raga Kofta and Mushroom Pot Pie and we had olive naan and goat cheese kulcha, all were delish, we needed more bread so we tried garlic naan, overall main course was great. Came by for dinner the other night and it was a tasty experience. Made a reservation online and our table was ready upon arrival. Street parking was plentiful in Los Altos. Staff wore masks covering their mouth and nose and some wore a gaiter... Both indoor and heated outdoor dining were available. Indoor dining was definitely on the "cozy" side with minimal spacing between tables... Started off with the La La Lamb and it was quite tasty. The tandoor lamb chops were decent sized, and well presented. Flavoring was on point too. Moved on to the confit butter chicken and it was decent. Some of the meat fell off the bone while other parts of the chicken tasted better with more curry... The garlic naan was fresh and tasty and complemented the curry in the butter chicken perfectly! Ended the meal off with the ghevar which was a slightly sweet and light way to end off the meal. I had saved this place for a special occasion meal. My expectation from this Indian restaurant was for it to have either a unique twist/interpretation of regular Indian food and/or exceptional flavor which is difficult to find in other places combined with some amazing ambiance and service. It has after all shown up on the Michelin guide. Since we went on a weekday, their office special menu seemed like a reasonable option as we could sample upto 6 dishes between the two of us. First of all the ambiance is mediocre, orange painted walls and some ceiling vents that needed cleaning. We got brassica beats and lasooni kebab for appetizers. The cauliflower bezule were these greasy little bites with a very crispy coating. The sauce it came with was fat heavy as well, it could have helped to have a lighter sauce to avoiding weighing down the combination. The chicken kebab was dangerously tethered between the fine line of being undercooked and beautifully cooked, I felt like it crossed the line into the wrong side in some places. Next came our main dishes: ghee roasted mutton and apricot kofta. The kofta was in a cream heavy curry, I could not distinguish the flavor of the apricots in the kebab, they just felt a tad bit tougher than the regular paneer/potato koftas. The mutton gravy was mild as well. Overall the appetizers and curries felt as if they were safely trying to tick off boxes rather than experimenting. Though it was difficult to find anything obviously wrong in the dishes at the same time it was difficult to fall in love with any of them. Finally we got toffee pudding and tapioca kheer for dessert. The toffee pudding was warm and not overly sweet if the brown sugar syrup was avoided, I liked it. The tapioca pudding on the other hand felt extremely sweet and had copious amount of saffron. If the expectation is to have a decent Indian meal in a relatively nice setting then this is the place for that. My expectations though were different and it failed to live upto them. read more

A great upscale dining experience! After being on our bookmarks for a long time, we finally went to Aurum. We reserved a table a day before and chose to sit outside. We were seated promptly and they had heaters set up for every table. It was great! For food we got these: ~ Mr. Potato: A yummy potato chaat. It was perfectly crisp and served with yogurt and chutney on top. ~ Fayro: Paneer Kebab that were well marinated, grilled and served with chutney. This is a MUST-ORDER for sure. ~ Garden: Aloo Mutter Kofta in a green sauce. This was good with naan. Would order again. ~ Garlic Naan, Olive and Thyme Naan: Both were SO good. The kids loved the garlic naan as it had LOTS of butter and tasted amazing. All the food was great and served fashionably. The taste was great and the portion size was as expected from a fine dine restaurant. The servers were friendly, gave attention to detail and helped accommodate any request. ONLY flip side is that they do NOT allow strollers inside and do NOT provide high chairs. Would not recommend visiting with a baby or toddler. read more

6/8/2022 Aurum 132 State St Los Altos, CA 94022 On our recently started ongoing search in downtown Los Altos, we went for Indian and came here for a late lunch on a warm Wednesday afternoon and sat outside. The menu appears limited; no tandoori or kebabs for example. We both ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala which was curry according to our waiter. We also had the Garlic and Olive & Thyme Naans. Both were good and we preferred the Garlic. Our Chicken was tender and moist in a delicious mildly spicy orange sauce. We were told we could specify the heat level at spicy or very spicy, spicy next time. Service was outstanding. Food was great but pricey. Parking in Los Altos is a breeze. Definitely repeatable, only wish they had more menu offerings. read more
