Charming, Clean Urban RV Park with Great Hospitality…read more We decided to spend a night at The Camp after being drawn in by descriptions of vintage trailers, though we didn't end up seeing any during our brief stay. When we arrived, we accidentally pulled into the wrong campsite. The manager kindly pointed out our mistake, but rather than making us hitch back up and move, he generously let us stay in the spot we'd pulled into since it was right next to our assigned space. That extra bit of flexibility and hospitality was very much appreciated! The park itself was exceptionally clean and featured a great little dog park for our pet. I thought it was clever that the bathrooms and laundry facilities are housed in portable units, which surely keeps overhead costs down without needing permanent structures. However, the laundry facility was out of order during our stay. It also would have been nice to have a picnic table at our site; I noticed none of the sites had tables provided. Overall, it's a convenient, well-kept spot to stay in Bend, and we would happily return.

One of the most exciting parts was crossing the river several times. In some places there were bridges, and at one point we had to carefully balance across a log, which made the hike even more fun and memorable. We visited in April, and there was still a little snow on the trail. The weather was beautiful, but I would recommend bringing traction spikes if conditions are slippery and hiking poles for extra stability. The waterfalls were spectacular, and the scenery along the trail was breathtaking. It was a perfect mix of adventure and natural beauty. I'm sure I'll return one day with my kids to experience it all again.

The campground itself is pretty similar to what you might find at the other Hoodoo ran campgrounds, though it always feels a bit cleaner than the rest. The sites come with running water, shared bathrooms, picnic tables, fire rings, and a parking space. You will want to bring plenty of cash for the fees and if you bring more than one vehicle you will need to pay extra. This campground is right next to the lake and has an awesome trail that runs around the perimeter of the lake. There is a boat ramp at the end of the lake and if you just have paddle boards and kayaks you can just launch them right by your campsite. In addition to the boat ramp, there is a very nice shallow swim area. This has a gradual slope that allows the sun to warm the water up pretty fast. Overall I would say that this campground is slightly nicer than the other campgrounds in the Cascades, but the location is what really pull it up to five stars. When I have the time and money, this is my preferred campground.

The campground wasn't too full when we stayed and had ample space for all of us. Noise was not an issue here and quiet hours were observed. The campsites has picnic tables and even ground. Restrooms were interspersed throughout the campground and there was a water pump where we could go to pump clean/drinking water. One of the Best Parts of Bend Was Right Outside Our Hotel…read more While staying in downtown Bend, my family and I were looking for something outdoorsy and close by, and the Deschutes River Trail ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. What started as a casual morning walk quickly turned into a beautiful four-mile hike filled with rushing rapids, peaceful river bends, towering pine trees, and some incredible Central Oregon scenery. One of the best parts of this trail is how much the landscape changes as you go. At some points the river was calm enough for paddleboarders floating by, and at others the rapids were roaring against the rocks with serious energy and sound. The trail itself was also a nice mix. Some sections were smooth and paved, while others became a little more rugged with dirt paths, rocks, and small elevation changes that made the hike feel adventurous without being overly difficult. I would still consider this a very approachable hike for most people and fitness levels. We saw walkers, runners, families, and people out with their dogs enjoying the trail. Pro tip: bring water, especially on warmer days, because parts of the trail are fully exposed to the sun. Another thing I appreciated was how accessible this experience was from downtown Bend. We were able to walk straight from our hotel into what felt like a completely different environment surrounded by river, forest, and nature. We eventually wrapped up near the Old Mill District, which made for the perfect ending with shops, restaurants, and a chance to relax after the hike. Sometimes the best travel experiences are not the big tourist attractions, they are the simple moments outside on a trail reminding you why places like Bend are so special.
