I took my girlfriend to the Aurora Hotel for the weekend as a surprise. I read all the reviews and decided it was worth the extra money for the ocean view and I was right !! I will try to address a lot of the negative comments I have read. Upon arrival one of the women at the front desk even walked us up to the room and showed us how use the Keurig, apparently many guests have issues with this, and although not entirely necessary we appreciated her proactive approach. There are no elevators but the stairwells are open and well lit. Room 313 just happens to be the corner room, on the street side ( a quiet hill street but not nearly as steep as the mountain some reviews make it out to be), and the room also has a beautiful glass railing balcony. The size of the room is small but efficient, I appreciate the modern and updated style very much. The shower was very nice also, not cold at all. I can't speak directly to the comments on "thin walls" because Room 313 is isolated by a stairwell and the corner so that no rooms are next to it, but we never had an issue with noise from inside or out. Breakfast in the morning was very nice, and also the wine and cheese on friday on the roof deck (keep in mind this is not the Hilton but it is Avalon style, small but beautiful). Also the hotel was very clean. For our next visit we would love to stay here again, they even gave us a $50 gift card for our next trip ! read more

I'm not picky about where I stay, but this place was certainly a treat! 1 night, 2 people for a standard room on a Friday night ($175) which looks like: http://www.auroracatalina.com/plan-your-stay/plan-your-stay-in-catalina.htm We made a reservation by phone and the receptionist quickly booked our room along with two Catalina Express tickets (at no extra charge). The room itself was compact, modern and sleek. You get 2 shower robes to wear (which you can purchase at the end of your stay if you so choose). What really got it going for me was FREE COFFEE!!! They have Keurigs conveniently placed in your room AND the lounge with UNLIMITED coffee & tea packets. Breakfast was included in the package, but don't expect your beloved bacon, sausage, and eggs to be there. Service was SPLENDID. Richard greeted us at the front desk and was friendly, helpful, and patient with my touristy questions. He was even kind enough to guide us up to our room! HOWEVER, the bathroom is VERY small for the standard room. I personally had no complaints about this, but here's a heads up in case it might be problematic for you. The hotel is hard to find because the street sign is hidden from plain view. If you really can't find Marilla Ave. on the map of Avalon (which you can grab on the Catalina Express), ask a local to point you in the right direction. There is a very small hike from Crescent Ave up to the hotel, but once you get there--FREE COFFEE! (Don't judge me, I'm an addict). read more

Aurora Hotel is a sweet little spot. Modern feel to it. Nothing extremely fancy, but just enough to spend a nice weekend on Catalina and not have anything to worry about. The friendly staff was more than nice. Coffee and snacks at all times in the lobby were also a bonus. A little continental breakfast too! The rooms were clean, some had an amazing view and their robes were a nice addition to the stay. If you stay here, you will see what i mean (the robes). The roof deck was also pretty nice. Lots of places to relax, soak up the sun and enjoy the view without going far. Breakfast up there was great! read more

Quiet atmosphere. Very accommodating staff. I was in corner room 13. Small br/bedroom, and balcony. Bed was comfortable for my needs.. I would have liked fruits, snacks avail 24 hrs. I had early trip out of avalon. I did partake in the "continental breakfast" Staples offered. Nice if fresh fruit was offered or breakfast rolls in a warmer to accompany coffee. I thought that the Aurora would have a "wow" factor. Hotel is Nice and Cozy, fit weekend needs for sleeping. 5 stars for accommodating staff. Not handicap friendly. read more

We stayed here for a brief getaway and we enjoyed our visit very much. We arrived several hours ahead of check in and we were very happy when they let us check in and go up to the room. Room was on the small side but had everything we expected, well appointed, modern and with a balcony view of the bay. The staff were very friendly and helpful with good local knowledge and advice. The hotel is close to the shops and restaurants and was conveniently located for all our island activities. My wife also was very impressed with the spa services and enjoyed her treatment very much! We highly recommend this hotel and we will return here in the future! read more

This is a very nice boutique hotel. The rooms are small but efficiently laid out. However, the walls are super thin and the bathroom is tiny. The pillows are way too soft just uncomfortable. Roof top view - Awesome. If I say again, I will get a suite because I can't handle the tiny bathroom. Staff very nice and friendly. read more

. When we first checked in everything was great, WE got a Jr. Suite with a Jacuzzi bath tub. Front Desk Kris was really nice and helpful. So the problems starts.. Here we go.. We ran a bath or tired to at least. The bath water started out brown. Okay we on a island so. we start the bath water again.. the water comes out warm at best... then we call her up to the room she come and said oh it's getting hotter.... then I got to get in the tub water was still not hot but needed to relax go to turn the tub on and makes odd loud sounds and the jets on the right side of the tub doesn't work.. so crap that idea. while I got out of the tub the air in which we turned on was blowing huge moth balls our of it and blowing everywhere and smell of gross nasty water like MOLD. WE then called her up again and she apologized and said she was going to send someone up to clean the room. Again Kris was nice but come one the room was filthy. We headed out to have our first day in Catalina. When we got back NOTHING was done in the room like 4 to 5 hours later nothing.. so we asked to switch rooms she said nothing was open till tomorrow. so we stayed in a JR. Suite with NO accommodations not even air!!@! OH here is the BEST part.. I pulled out the sofa bed to lay on it by the window and I honestly don't even know what was on the sheets in a bed still made up I am only assume it was blood, chocolate or soda..(We cannot call anyone at this time because the front desk is closed!!!!!!!) We wake up the next morning and while I went downstairs to ask for a room switch they moved us to a room with a ocean view in which the room was big enough for a Queen size bed and a TV.. NO room at all the bathroom was smaller than my closet at home. Both times we asked for a manager were told She is off site. As we checked out we were told we were getting a 75.00 credit for the room switch.. and waiting for the manager to get in to approve. so we check out and got called 2 hours later stating the credit was coming but noting from the first night!!. I am disgusted at the whole room well two rooms. Walls are thin, Room is dated and Dirty.. definitely not worth the money you pay read more

Wonderful hotel! We've stayed in Avalon before in different hotels but this was by far the best of them all. Very cute hotel. Small.... but all the hotels are. Very clean and nicely decorated rooms. The best part is actually the staff, everyone is super friendly and helpful. Very enjoyable place to stay, read more

This hotel is cute but very overpriced for what you get. Walls are paper thin- people going in and out of their rooms woke me up both mornings we were here. I could hear footsteps outside our door for people walking normally that sounded like it was next to my ear. Up a steep hill which is no fun to return to and no elevator (pack light). No hairdryer in the room, teeeeny bathroom. For $300 a night I expected much more. Roof deck is nice tho. read more

My husband and I stayed here for a quick weekend away. We booked a package that included the RT ferry ride, passes to a museum tour and two nights in a standard room (room #311)...for a little less than $500. ROOM / BUILDING: The decor is awesome...very contemporary and clean. The room is a bit on the small side, but they utilize the allowable space extremely well!! If you choose to stay here, I would NOT take the room we had...it was so unbelievably noisy. The wall in which the headboard is against is shared with the stairwell, so you hear when people are walking up and down the stairs. It's also on the third floor, which is where the hotel has an awesome deck to just chill on. So, you hear everybody laughing, drinking, etc. outside the window. LOCATION: The area of Catalina is relatively small, so this hotel (while not in the heart of downtown) is definitely not far from anything. You do have to walk up a relatively steep hill, which isn't all that great in heels or if you have troublesome knees. SERVICE: The concierge is very friendly and was completely open to suggesting places to eat, etc. During her off hours, one of the front desk attendants (Kristen...who's great, btw) saw us walking on the sidewalk and even waved hello and asked if we needed any help finding our way or anything. OVERALL: This is a very clean, friendly hotel...we'd definitely come back again, but would just make sure not to get the room that we got =) read more

This review is long overdue, my boyfriend and I stayed here back in February for our 4 year Anniversary. I have to say it was a memorable experience from start to end. I made my reservations through Richard, he was so kind and attentive, he even sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room and he assigned us a room near the deck patio which had an amazing view of the harbor. If I could describe this hotel in a few words, they'd have to be beautiful, cozy, modern, romantic! Best little getaway ever, also great customer Service, the front desk associate brought us complimentary orange juice for our mimosas during the day throughout our stay. We booked through hotel, ended up being a better rate then any groupon or travel zoo. read more

Aurora Hotel - View from Deck near our room, perfect for a mimosa during the day or a nice romantic evening with music and wine! - Hotels Near Me - Avalon, California

I love this place! I am so happy that I picked this place and it reminds me of a petite version of Hard Rock Hotel. The hotel is located on a hilly road just about half a mile distance from the port closer to the Casino building and is walking distance to all the shops, restaurants, specialty stores, grocery stores. This boutique/spa hotel has a clean, sophisticated, modern look, European streamline furniture with brown-teal beach theme. My boyfriend and I went on a warm, beautiful weekend in September and stayed there for 2 nights. We got the standard room with view of the hillside located on the 3rd floor next to the rooftop deck for $678 including the Catalina express and to/fro cab ride. We arrived to Catalina around one o'clock in the afternoon and their check-in time was 2 pm. The staff greeted us cheerfully and was very friendly that they took us early before our check-in time. One of the guys even helped us carry our luggage up the stairs because they don't have elevators in Catalina. When we got to our rooms, we were completely blown away by their clean bed and it is tempur-pedi-riffic. They have flat-screen TV, dvd player, Keurig coffee machine, small microwave, fridge that has 2 free bottled-water, hairdryer. The rooms are carefully thought through and smartly designed in a way to accommodate every single space. Their tiny bathroom opens to a sliding door next to the vanity table and probably can fit only one person. Their rooftop deck has an amazing view overlooking the ocean, the casino on the left, and the port on the right. Their complimentary breakfast was enough to fill you in the morning (not the typical sausage, eggs, and toast breakfast.) They have muffins, mini-scones, bagels, fruit jelly, cream cheese, fruits, cereal boxes, instant oatmeal packets, milk, orange juice, and coffee. We had a wonderful stay here and we will most likely to come back to Aurora Hotel. read more

This is my second time to Catalina. I want to point out that the front desk staff are wonderful however the room had a lot of issues I wasn't so thrilled about. The sheets and pillows need to be updated severely. The sheets were stained and very old as well as the pillows. Pillow cases were also three times the size as the actual pillows and were just very old. The bathroom sink was clogged pretty bad. For the price of this room I would have stayed at hotel metropole again. Saves you walking up a very steep hill with luggage. The walls in this hotel are paper thin. You can hear the neighbor across from you using the bathroom. The AC unit in my room didn't work well and was very loud. But again, the hotel staff is wonderful. They just need to make some updates in the rooms. read more

My girlfriend and I just had a wonderful stay here over Memorial Weekend. We got the "Catalina Art Experience" package and it was perfect; everything we wanted to do and then some. The pottery class was fun, interactive, and educational and Chihuly's work in the museum speaks for itself. The hotel itself is quaint and well-maintained; Hailey, Fabian, and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't change a thing; definitely recommend! read more

PROS -Clean -Updated / modern rooms -Free WiFi -Great views (room 313) -Friendly and accommodating staff -Mini fridge, microwave and coffee machine in room is always useful. -Great use of the small space -Great location since it's just a block or two off of the main strip, you don't get all of the busy street noises. CONS - The rooms are quite small. I'd say 13x12 - The bathrooms are super tiny 3x6 and leave little to no privacy with just a frosted glass sliding door to separate you from the rest of the room. -THE HILL! I'd say the hill is about a 35% incline and isn't usually too much of a problem if you're in relatively good shape. It's not Fun by any means but it's do-able. It did prevent me from wearing strappy heels out to a "nice" dinner since it seems a bit ridiculous to get a taxi ride down or up the hill. OTHER The bed is one of those "memory foam" beds. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. I like a firm bed so I was ok with it. My husband likes a softer bed so this was a problem for him. He woke up every morning with back pain. Poor guy! Over all, I really enjoyed my stay at the Aurora however, because of the hill and the bed that my husband just could not tolerate, I'll have to look else where should we ever return to Catalina. read more

My favorite hotel on the island. It is my home away from home, since I'm here a few times each week.

Came for the couples massage. Holy Moley! Best Massage EVER! Carmen and Maria were our masseuse and they did an amazing job. They were very thorough and helped focus on our needs (back and leg pains). I'm surprised the package came with hot rocks massage and a foot scrub. My wife and I came out of there totally relaxed. Couldn't recommend this place enough. Will looks to staying at the hotel next time. Ticklish people approved!! read more

Stayed here for 3 nights with my girlfriend over spring break. Honestly could not be happier, I booked us the standard room with "partial" ocean view but let me tell you that it is most definitely closer to a full ocean view. The room was extremely clean and the bed is incredibly comfortable. Yes, the showers are on the smaller side but we personally did not mind. If you're a dude who's 6'3 you might struggle. Any room on the third floor will have a balcony which I really recommend. It's super nice to chill out there and watch the stars at night. The staff were all incredibly nice, let us check in early and held our bags for us. The breakfast in the morning is a nice touch, don't expect a 5 star buffet but the food was good enough. Bagels, fresh fruit, etc. much more than just cereal. The rooftop deck is also a very nice touch, amazing view of the water and just a really nice vibe honestly. 10/10 would (and will) stay again! read more

I can only echo all of the other positive reviews. Really cute, clean rooms that use the small space very effectively. Bonus points for the Keurig, robes, flat screen TV, and wonderful smelling bath products. The staff and the rooftop deck take this hotel into the 5-star category. They operate more like a B&B than a hotel. Super sweet staff who personally call you to let you know your room will be ready 3 hours early? Yes! Our ferry was switched from a 2:15 pm departure from Marina del Rey to a 9:15 am departure, putting us into Avalon 5 hours earlier than expected (and 3.5 hours earlier than check-in). The woman at the front desk called my cell phone to check on when time we were arriving and when I mentioned that we'd be early she told me that one of our rooms would be available when we arrived so we could store our luggage while we explored the island. They also called me again later once our other room became available. On checkout day, they also stored our luggage from our 11 am checkout to 5:00 pm, when our ferry finally departed (so we could get lunch and do the Jeep Eco Tour). Above and beyond a normal chain hotel. The rooftop deck is where we spent most of our mornings and evenings. Morning: brew a K-Cup, head down the hall to the deck and drink a cup of joe overlooking the entire Avalon Harbor. Evening: grab a bottle of wine, head down the hall to the deck and watch the sun set on the Pacific Ocean. There was never more than one other couple on the deck any of the times we were up there, and many of the times, we were the only ones. Even though the walk from town center was a little longer, I really enjoyed being up and away from the heart of city. And even though I cursed the hill a couple of times we walked back to the Aurora, mostly I was happy to burn the calories of the dinners and lunches we splurged on! Mostly. ;) read more

My husband and I just celebrated our 2nd anniversary and decided to get a couples massage at the Aurora Hotel and Spa. Lavina and Grace were just awesome! The room was set up so nice with candle light. The tables were sooo comfortable that we almost fell asleep. They have a flat screen TV that plays beautiful scenery of water falls, rivers and mountains etc with soothing music. The oils they used smelled so good. It was such a wonderful hour of pure delight! I highly recommend getting a massage at the Aurora Hotel and Spa. read more

OK my review is based solely on the fact that we stayed one night here, and the next night at hotel Catalina. The room was clean, the staff was friendly. My view was decent. All good things. But the price was way over priced for that tiny room. My wife and I both complained about the size of the shower being smaller than on a cruise ship. Again, it was clean, comfy bed all good enough. Just waaaaaay over priced in my opinion. Do yourself a favor, book one of the suites over at hotel Catalina. We literally just checked in, and it's way better. There is a GIANT whirlpool tub, the TV is at least double the size ( so is our room) and the shower is significantly bigger as well. The view is the only thing slightly lacking however, the garden view we have is not too shabby. The cost? Literally less than half. I only wish I would have e taken the chance last night as well. Would have saved a bunch of money! If money is no option, I'd still book over at hotel Catalina, and take a bath in all the money I saved in that big whirlpool tub! read more

Aurora Hotel - It did have a very nice view. - Hotels Near Me - Avalon, California

4 stars for the look of the rooms and the "extras" (more on that later) plus the rooftop deck 2 stars for the location, size of room, uncomfortable bed, and service mix up equals 3 stars total. We paid $285 for one night at this hotel on a Tuesday night. Our room was considered an "ocean view" so it was a bit more. Our friends got the "balcony ocean view" so their's was over $300. PROS: -the room and hotel have been recently remodeled so everything LOOKS very nice and feels new. when you look closer, you can see all the old imperfections in the walls, but that didn't really bother me -our room had a Keurig with available K-cups, a fridge, a microwave, a steamer, and free bottled water. very nice touch with the Keurig. -the rooftop deck is really awesome. great view of the ocean and they had tons of seating (various kinds of chairs, beds, etc.) up there and it all looked new. one issue was that only one thing was shaded, all the other seats were out in the sun...some umbrellas for the other seats would be nice. CONS: - OMG the location is a pain. it's one of the furthest hotels from the dock, but if that's not enough, it's also up a huge hill...with a steep incline. it's super inconvenient and that fact ALONE means I'll never stay there again. there are too many other hotels that are just as nice and right on the beach with comparable prices to have to hike to my room after a long day and night of being in the sun and drinking -the rooms are TINY...and I mean REALLY tiny!!! Now, the room part wasn't a huge deal since it was just 2 of us, but the bathroom barely fit one person. my husband took twice as long in the shower because it was so small that he had to contort himself to rinse off since he couldn't move in there. there's no counter room at all and there's not a regular bathroom door. it's a frosted slider that goes across, but you can still see and hear so we had to ask our friends to step out of the room when we had to use the restroom. -the bed was one of the memory foam mattresses, i know a lot of people like those, but we were uncomfortable in it. lastly, they ask you when you make your reservation if it's for any reason. we marked anniversary because our anniversary was was 2 days before and this trip was part of our celebration. when we checked in, we said that again to the person and he said "oh congratulations, i will send some champagne up to your room later." I thought that was a nice touch except for the fact that not only did he send it to the wrong room (our friend's) even though it was a totally different reservation, but he sent it with 4 glasses instead of 2. Now, I don't want to sound selfish, but it was OUR anniversary, not their's..why would he send an anniversary bottle of champagne with 4 glasses? it was weird. Upon check out, they gave us each 2 $50 gift certificates to come back and stay again. This hotel LOOKS really nice, but bottom line it was way too inconvenient to ever stay at again even WITH the gift cards. read more

This is probably the most modern hotel on Catalina Island. I thought the prices were very reasonable. The beds, the room, the hotel was all very nice, comfortable, and modern-feeling/trendy. My only gripe is that the location was a bit tough to find. Also, the room is small but it's like that no matter where in Catalina you stay. We will definitely stay there again when we head back to Catalina. Thanks for a great stay! read more

Dictionary.com definition of spa: spa [spah] --noun a luxurious resort or resort hotel. Although Aurora Hotel & Spa is a decent place to stay, by NO means should they have the word "Spa" in their title. In my opinion, spa makes it sound much nicer, as if they have spa-like amenities, which they don't. Perhaps, more accurately, call themselves Aurora Hotel and a Regular Room with Massage Beds. It just doesn't seem quite as appealing though. For a surprise birthday gift, my husband took me to Catalina Island for the weekend and he booked everything through the hotel, boat transportation both ways, taxi service to and from the hotel, flowers in the room for my arrival, and a couples massage for the two of us. Upon our arrival to the hotel, we were kindly greeted by the front desk people, Richard and a woman (which I forgot her name, but really friendly.) Our room wasn't ready so we walked to town to kill some time and when we returned, it was the LONGEST check in process ever! However, when that was finished, I feel that we got the best room (Rm 313) they had to offer, 3rd floor, corner room with a balcony and a view. It was a little small but quaint and they have Kurieg coffee machines which was a bonus. They also have Rusk toiletries for their guests which was also nice but unfortunately, housekeeping did not replenish what we used when they cleaned our room. The bathroom was very small and the sink, well Barbie would feel at home with it, being it was so tiny. But, they do have a nice roof top lounge area on the 3rd floor. So why only two stars, you ask? For the extreme price paid for the weekend, I expected much more. When it was time for our message, we were taken to a regular room, 216, which was very surprising. That hardly qualifies it as a spa. I was asked about any special requests for my massage and two things I specified, she did neither. I don't know if that was more annoying or hearing a child crying or the people talking outside the room on different occasions. It could have been that awful, loud, squeaking cabinet in dire need of some WD40 that she kept opening to get towels or how she kept stopping to do whatever it was she doing, approx 5 minutes one time. Maybe it was when she climbed on me and straddled my back. That was a first! Regardless, it was ALL BAD! There was nothing relaxing about that over priced, terrible massage. (In all fairness, my husband was happy with his massage therapist, Sarah, but he also slept during his, which I did not.) The icing on the cake though was when my husband realized our return tickets were 1 1/2 hour before our confirmed itinerary showed. He went to the front desk, since everything was booked through the hotel, and even though she admitted it was the hotels fault, she said WE had to go take it up with Catalina Express. We were not even offered a ride but were told if we had to pay the difference that they would reimburse us. Off we went to fix a mistake that was no fault of our own. Once we went back to the hotel with the receipt showing we paid the difference, Richard was back at the front desk. I actually felt sorry for the girl co-worker of his. Richard repeatedly told my husband that they were not responsible to pay us, but she already had, and that we needed to submit our receipt and a refund voucher to Catalina Express. Really? We had spent OVER $1000 with them for these two nights and we got that kind of treatment? It's one thing to get mediocre services but to be treated like am idiot, well thanks but no thanks. I'll spend my money elsewhere next time. read more

Great massage therapists and rooms with amazing views. Comfy robes. Relaxing rooftop patio. Skip the breakfast.

I was looking for the perfect way to propose to my girlfriend and the Aurora Hotel & Spa helped me along the way. I was immediately given an upgrade room (311) upon arrival on 12/23/14. Anyone who is looking to impress their significant other-I would recommend the "couples package." This package included: 2 nights stay, a lovely handbasket full or cheese and snacks, a fine bottle of wine, rose petals on the bed, and the most importantly-the couples massage that was on site! I was resting after a lovely day on the island with my fiance (I proposed that day on the top of the island) and we heard a knock on my door. It was our masseuse! We walked down one story to an intimate, relaxing bedroom transformed to a massage parlor. It was amazing! After the massage, we dined at a local steakhouse, celebrating the proposal. The booking of the trip was a breeze and the staff helped me along the way. Everything from the Catalina Express to the cab to the hotel, to dinner and accommodations were all taken care. First class experience. In the lobby is fresh fruit, k-cup coffee and tea and the happy staff. The balcony is a perfect place to start the day with the continental breakfast, or end the day with some wine and a sunset. You could spend the entire day up there relaxing, reading or getting some raise. The room was small but very nice. The boutique style room made me feel like I was back in Paris and the Temper-Pedic mattress allowed for the best sleep in years. I will be back to the Aurora Hotel, reminiscing on the greatest day of my life. Thanks Aurora Hotel & Spa for making my day to remember the best day ever! read more

We stayed here during our honeymoon in Catalina and loved it! Yes, the rooms are small, but you're on an island. How often are you really in the room besides sleep? For the size factor, the rooms are well laid out and they make room for all the necessities. The hotel staff are very sweet and do a great job at feel like family while you stay. They recommend restaurants in the area to try, activities to do, etc. he hotel also has a complimentary breakfast are in the mornings with tea and coffee (which is also offered throughout the day along with flavored fresh fruit water, which I loved :) ), however, the breakfast is just ok. But that didn't ruin our stay. We loved staying at the aurora hotel and we enjoyed that it was off the main street and great value for the price. We will stay again on your next trip to the island read more

Great room but quite small. The glass door to the bathroom was a little trippy especially for privacy issues (I like my privacy while in the bathroom whether I was dating someone or if I was married lol) but overall it was a nice room. In addition, the robes were so dang comfy and the bed was super soft. Service was also great, everyone is very nice. I also like the fact that they could store our luggage before check in as well as after check out while we waited for our departure time. read more

Upsides: Super clean and fresh hotel. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the main stretch of town and up a little hill. However, it is totally walkable from the port. The room is small, but efficient with the use of space. Everything was clean and modern. Keurig and coffee in the room, two bottles of water in the fridge, and a delightful box of chocolates and comfy spa robes waiting to be used. Downstairs was more coffee always available, and fresh fruit water for the taking. Breakfast was a delightful array of food- from warmed muffins to fresh mini quiches. The rooftop deck had an amazing view as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Downsides: the walls are PAPER THIN. We could hear our neighbors entire conversation and they were just talking normal. Our room's view was of the neighbors house- not super cute- but we were hardly in our room so didn't bother us too much. read more

This place was terrific. Our stay went perfect at this hotel, customer service was great, the room was nice and clean, the view of the ocean on the patio was absolutely beautiful. The breakfast was descent nothing to really complain about. Beds where comfy, robes made it feel like a nice relaxed stay. overall terrific. Will be coming back!! read more

Had a great time even with the rain and wind!! Made reservations with Ruben to do an offseason package. I'm not super rich and do like to go to places when it's not very crowded. I got a deal for a room with a view for one night and round trip ferry from Dana point. It's off the main drag but is great! Rooms are stylish modern and smaller but effiecient use of space. HIghlights are the temperpedic beds, plush robes, rooftop deck, use of complimentary laptops, fridge, dvd player etc. Service was fantastic! Helped and exceeded my expectations with every request. Helped in terms of things to do and finding good places to eat ( Read my review of the Lobster trap). Decent comp breakfast too. Cool part was the rooftop deck which looked like the top of a chic club. Also it had a great ocean view. I took a bottle of champagne up there with the girl and we drank it like blinged out rappers and looked over the ocean. It was raining, cold and gloomy but we didn't care. I do apologize for the cork flying over someone's house but I suppose that's what wannabe rock stars have to do! More importantly the girl I took was stoked! Like a side bed was fun, shower is super nice and I really liked the complimentary shampoos and stuff. THE most of important part of the hotel was the PHONE CALL. We had a ferry going back to dana point at 4:30. We were changing and getting ready to leave for the day at 10:30 when the phone rang and the hotel told us because of bad weather, our ferry had been canceled back to dana point and we needed to haul butt to the only ferry of the day which was at 11:45am but going to Long Beach. They said the storm was coming in quick and there weren't going to be any ferrys the next day or day after. Fearing we would be stuck but greatful for the call, we made it off (as well as tons of other people) the island. I went downstairs, chit chatted with Ruben, and he apologised for the weather. Do people really blame other humans for bad weather? I told him no worries and he gave me some vouchers for some discounts the next time we come back. Trust me we will! read more

FANTASTIC experience with them this weekend!! They have a package deal with the Express which is pretty sweet...all inclusive transportation for the round-trip ferry and taxi to/from the dock. We felt that the price is a REALLY great value with everything they provide, especially after hearing what our wedding party guests were experiencing at their hotels. The staff was extremely warm, welcoming and on point with anything and everything we needed. We enjoyed an awesome Wine and Cheese experience on the roof top the day we arrived which had incredible views and a cool, modern lounge vibe....the other guests were all very friendly and the staff interacted with everyone as if we were all family. The junior suite we had was perfect for our needs and had been recommended by the gentleman I had made the reservations with.....awesome recommendation by the way James, thank you! The whirlpool tub was exactly what we needed to soothe our wedding day jitters and the view from the bathroom windows was picturesque. The continental breakfast had a nice variety and you're able to refill your water bottles with filtered water down in the lobby. Handheld steamers and other amenities that come standard in the rooms were a really nice touch. I especially loved that they supplied battery-operated candles to set the mood and special soaking scents for the tub. Coming back to the hotel after our dinner parties and late-night Chi-Chi club dance experience was like coming home to your own home....warm, welcoming, with soft lighting setting up your senses for "quiet" time. It was very quiet at this hotel...street noise was not even a factor. Our massage experience was very relaxing and was uncomplicated as it was 2 doors down the corridor from our room. Both therapists were great and got all the post-dance knots out!! My husband and I will DEFINITELY be back to the Aurora Hotel during our future visits to the island. read more

We had the nicest stay at the Aurora Hotel & Spa!!! Their staff, especially Paul, made our stay extra special!! They are so friendly and accommodating. I knew our room was on the smaller side and it didn't matter. It was very clean, very well equipped and quite comfortable. The air conditioner worked fantastic which was a big help with the heat and not something I'm accustomed to on the island. The morning breakfast was just perfect and having coffee available at all hours is a real plus! We will definitely stay again at the Aurora!! Thanks Paul and to all the staff!!! read more

I have yet to stay there, but when I went to the island yesterday to see my long lost college buddy SC (Facebook rocks!), she took me to see the property. The owner Kathleen has done a great job mixing modern with the oceanic charm that is Catalina. The Aurora suite is all sweeping ocean views, dark woods contrasting against blue (I love that color combo, very Boule on La Cienega) and modern lines. read more

I came here for one of my best friends weddings and had a fabulous time. They rented out the whole hotel (18 rooms) which worked out perfectly. They got married on the roof top and it couldn't have been more lovely. The rooms are small but nice and the beds are super comfy. There is a Keurig in each room :) the only thing which felt way too small was the shower I felt like I was taking a shower in an RV, I couldn't even bend over to shave my legs and I'm not very big. But other than that I have no complaints. The continental breakfast in the am is quite a generous spread with lots of fresh fruit and options. This hotel is very cozy and modern and Diana the manager couldn't have been more hospitable. If I ever return to Catalina I will definitely stay here again read more

My husband and I stayed here at the end of January. When we arrived, the hotel attendant checked us in right away and showed us to our room. She told us about their continental breakfast and wine tasting that they did in the evening. She was very nice. The room we stayed in was facing the water and had a great view. The room itself was small but for two nights, it worked for us. The bathroom was also a little small, but I feel like everything on Catalina Island is like that. The hotel was clean and quiet at night, which was great. It's in a good location, too. Also, there are a lot of places to exit the hotel as well, which I thought was convenient. Cute hotel on a cute island. It's exactly what you would expect. read more

My boyfriend planned an early Valentine's Day weekend get away. We stayed 2 nights and 3 days. The Aurora was beautiful!! We arrived on the island at 9:30am check in time was 11am but our room was ready so they lets us settle in early. The hill Aurora sits on that people complain about walking up is a complete joke and if that was one of your problems you need to get out more. We got the standard room with no ocean view and honestly you don't need to book the ocean view room when they have a top deck patio that over looks the island....can you say breathe taking. The staff was also friendly check out time was at 11am and our ship out was at 3pm, the hotel will hold onto your luggage in an office room if you would still like to roam around town and get a bite to eat like we did. The room comes with a Keurig, refrigerator, microwave, safe, and a hairdryer so ladies no need to try and find space in your suit case for yours. The hotel also has continental breakfast, I suggest going to the top deck and enjoying it there....I will definitely book my next trip to Catalina here. Thank you Aurora!! read more
