The Lindsey Lou taco is flipping incredible. I ate a million, exploded, and died. I have experienced Pork Nirvana.

My favorite here is the fried ribs, the Friday night special(sway fish), and all of their sides, with macaroni and cheese is at the top of the list, the greens are second. Recommend: yes, always. The restaurant is your typical hole in the wall establishment which is where the locals go. A steady stream of regulars were walking in with to go orders. The chicken meal caught my eye. Specifically the 3 pc chicken wing meal with 2 sides, corn bread and a drink. My wife got the chicken finger meal. We both got the Mac-N-cheese and collard greens. The MAC was absolutely loaded with cheese. I hate to say this but it had too much cheese in it. My wife only ate a few bites. The collard greens made up for it, seasoned very well. The chicken wings and chicken fingers were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Unfortunately they only serve wings or fingers that I could see on the menu. I suppose to cut down on cooking times. If in the area we would entertain coming back again.

Yet spending another Thanksgiving meal here at Ole Times. One thing is you never have any…read morecomplaints about the food. The turkey is always done to perfection, the ham yummy and plenty of sides and desserts. The salad bar was completely vacant, however...this was somewhat disheartening, considering how supposedly "health minded" American adults are these days. That was our first stop of the day. Cabbage slaw, carrot salad, macaroni salad, olives, huge delicious slices of beautiful tomatoes, gorgeous slices of cucumbers, nicely green lettuce, several types of peppers and ham. Cheese, salad dressing of every kind...best stop so far! Smoked pork, ribs, fried fish, yeast rolls, sliced roast beef, ham, turkey slices, meatloaf, fried chicken, baked chicken, green bean casserole, mac & cheese, cornbread dressing, turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, lima beans, black eyed peas, creamed corn, greens, rice, fried okra... Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, lemon meringue, peach cobbler, soft serve ice cream, chocolate cream pie, cookies, brownies...oh, I'm exhausted just from trying to list everything! There was so so so much more than what I even listed here, plus the absolute best waitress and Arnold Palmer maker! Why cook at home, burden yourself, spend HOURS cleaning up afterwards and hours more packing everything away? Take yourself and your loved ones out to Ole Times Country Buffet just one time for the holidays and you'll never go back to cooking again! (I sure haven't)

The table was sticky, so that wasn't great. The portions were very small for plates in the $20 range. The chicken and "dumplings" are made with precooked biscuits. Their fried green tomatoes are soaked in sauce. The sauce was delicious but I didn't expect smothered tomatoes. I added the sauce to my salmon with potatoes and veggies as that dish didn't have any specific flavor other than "grilled." Right now, the place seems to be understaffed. We waited for a while to be seated but the restaurant wasn't full. Our appetizer came with our entrees and it wasn't hot. Our server was sweet and she did her best.

Some restaurants become memorable because of one great dish. Others become memorable because every…read moretime you visit, they somehow make you feel right at home. South Kitchen & Spirits in Nocatee manages to do both. Susan and I have now visited several times, and every meal reinforces why this restaurant earned a place on our "Favorite Tables Around Town" list. The atmosphere is casual, lively, and welcoming without trying too hard. It feels like the kind of neighborhood restaurant every community wishes they had nearby. The biggest standout for us continues to be their Chicken & Waffles, which earned our Culinary Duo "Best of the Best" award. I will fully admit that growing up in the Northeast, the idea of fried chicken and waffles sounded completely wrong to me for years. Susan still laughs about how long it took me to embrace it. But after having South Kitchen's version, I finally understood why people love this dish so much. The chicken is perfectly crispy and juicy, the waffles are fluffy and buttery, and together they create that addictive sweet and savory combination that defines great Southern comfort food. This visit introduced us to a few more surprises. The Fried Green Tomatoes completely exceeded expectations. Topped with pimento cheese, crispy bacon, and a lemon vinaigrette drizzle, they had the perfect balance of richness and brightness. Even as someone who normally avoids fried green tomatoes, I genuinely enjoyed these. The Fried Shrimp appetizer also impressed us because the shrimp were large and lightly battered instead of overly breaded. You could actually taste the shrimp, which unfortunately is becoming rare these days. Susan loved the Shrimp & Grits. The andouille sausage had a perfect smoky crispness, the shrimp were plentiful, and the sauce stayed creamy throughout the meal without separating. I ordered the Barney Burger and honestly did not expect it to become one of the more memorable burgers I have had this year. The hand pattied brisket blend burger comes layered with avocado, tomato, American and cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, grilled jalapeños, and chipotle aioli. Every bite delivered heat, richness, and flavor. The service was warm and friendly throughout the evening. Kyle took excellent care of us, and the positive energy from the staff really added to the overall experience. South Kitchen & Spirits is ideal for casual date nights, family dinners, happy hour gatherings, or anyone looking for elevated Southern comfort food in the Ponte Vedra Beach and Nocatee area. Definitely worth visiting, especially if you appreciate generous portions, creative comfort food, and genuinely friendly hospitality.
