The Lindsey Lou taco is flipping incredible. I ate a million, exploded, and died. I have experienced Pork Nirvana.

I have never had such a revelation and change of heart about a single food. This chicken will change your life! I have to drive about 30 minutes or more and 20 miles to get it and I happily do so when I get the "Shut Em Down Cravings" Each piece is individually cooked when you order it so you ALWAYS get hot (sometimes too hot to eat right away despite how much your mouth is watering) pieces of chicken. The sides are also good, though truthfully not nearly as good as the chicken, and you get two with your meal. Oh, and their home made baked good are delicious as well. The staff are friendly and quick to point out the best deal on what you are ordering (there are specials almost every day). Plus the atmosphere is VERY relaxed, sort of a diner meets Cracker Barrel (without all the junk on the wall). It is an overall bargain because it is hard to spend more than about $15 for lunch (including a drink) and you always have some to take home. There are other good fried chicken spots in JAX of course, but this is a GREAT fried chicken spot. Heck, now I've got the darn "Shut Em Down Cravings", guess it is a trip across the river for me soon.

We got a variety of things from their menu to try. The kids meals are perfect portions and my kids were satisfied after. I personally tried their bbq melt with 2 sides (mac and cheese, baked beans). I loved everything, but the bbq melt was interesting.. not fully warmed up so some parts were cold. One cool part of our experience was that if you are pregnant you get a free treat of your choice. At this point I was extremely pregnant and the worker noticed and told me about that. I was surprised I could get any dessert even the big ones. I ended up going with their m&m cookie warmed up. The cookie was heavenly. I wasn't expecting much since I primarily view them as a bbq spot, but I definitely want to try more desserts in the future. Overall: 4.5 stars - easily would be 5 if the bbq melt wasn't half cold!

I got cornbread and a drink as well and waited for less than 10 minutes. Customer service was good ti myself and others from what I saw. The portions were huge and I had enough for two meals. Candied yams were good and so was the max snd cheese. I'll definitely be back when I'm in town. It's in a strip mall but definitely not the easiest to find.

The pork chop looked good, but it didn't seem seasoned, and there wasn't enough gravy on it to really be considered smothered. My husband's soda also had a strange aftertaste, which wasn't pleasant. On a positive note, the sides were absolutely delicious. The sweet potatoes, butter beans, rice, and cornbread were all flavorful and enjoyable. That's honestly what saved the meal for me. I know every restaurant can have an off day, and because we've had great experiences here in the past, we'll definitely give them another chance. This visit just wasn't up to the standard we've come to expect from Sweet Mama's.

The desserts were on a table in the back and were pre cut so I imagine they were dried out. I found an empty pan where there was supposed to have been a hot cobbler but it was not filled while we were there. The waitress was friendly and attentive. When I went up the first time there was no shrimp and I was very disappointed. I tried the fried chicken but it wasn't that good. The veggies I tried were good. Some were fresh and some were not. The second time I went up there was shrimp so I felt a lot better about the dinner. The shrimp were done well and the sauce I found was good. The atmosphere is homey/country and nothing fancy. I only saw tables but there was another room that I didn't go in so it might have had some other kind of seating. It's as expensive as the larger buffet's , even with a senior discount, which was a surprise. Tea is an extra charge, so I can't comment on that. I would give it another try if in the area again.

Many recommended oxtails, which I had never tried since I've eaten mostly vegetarian for 10+ years of my life. My doctor has suggested reintroducing some meat to see how I can tolerate with digestive disorders, so I figured give this location and oxtails a chance! For lunch one day, another coworker who traveled from Phoenix with me decided to go to lunch here. She ordered the daily special meatloaf with collared greens and said they were pretty average. She previously had someone bring in lunch from this location, and she remarked the pork chops were very delicious. Likely a case of ordering the wrong item; as another coworker mentioned the baked chicken wasn't that spectacular. What I've learned? When you dine soul food, you don't mind calories. My oxtails were delicious and fell off the bone. It reminded me of pot roast on the flavor and tenderness. Very hearty and filling. I also had the mac n cheese, which to be expected from a soul place, was divine! I found myself wishing I didn't go with a vegetable (broccoli) and did double Mac n cheese. Food for thought for a next visit if I'm sent to Jacksonville again for work as this location is only about 6 miles from the hotel/work office. If you are looking for soul food, give this location a try. It is styled like a cafeteria for lunch, so we didn't find the ambiance as relaxing as other places we went. The staff was pretty friendly and appreciate them offering a side recommendation, though shocked they said broccoli or corn as their favorite. Nonetheless, a great soul food stop if you are in the mood.
