According to the proprietors, the Augustus Hotel is a four-star establishment. They are over the moon proud of this achievement and therefore mention it on their website, sales literature, and quite frankly wherever they can squeeze it in. They even have have four stars incorporated into their logo.
Well, I don't know if they're grading on the metric system or what (out of 100 stars?) but in no way is this establishment four stars (out of five). The good news is that at $40 a night, at no time did I think this was a legitimate four-star hotel. The reality is that this is the only hotel in the area and they're doing the best they can considering the realities of the economics. After all, if opening a hotel in this town was such great business, there'd be more hotels in this town.
My room is definitely on the small side. A bed, a small desk, bathroom, and closet covered by a curtain. In college I had a place like this for a few months. In my sophomore year, I think. I don't remember anybody ever saying "congratulations on your four star accommodations"...lol. Not even close.
The interesting thing about the Agustus hotel is that elements of it are actually arguably multi star.
The staff are on point. Professional, courteous, and helpful. The lobby is resplendid-ish in marble and fairly classy. The breakfast was delicious and included espresso coffees made to order.
In sum, Im very happy with this hotel but I'm deducting one star from my review because they claim to be four stars not one or two. It's like if my brother told me that he's on the verge of winning podcaster of the year for his gripping entrée "cello time". Get over yourself, nothing with the word cello in it is winning anything. Or when my parents tell me that Sophie the dog, who is a complete idiot, is "very intelligent". She's doing the best she can with her walnut sized brain. Let's leave it at that. read more
