Please, please save your money and save yourself a LOT of stress by avoiding this hotel at all costs! Do not be fooled by the "renaissance" label for this hotel. It is Horrible.
Most tourists come to Naples thinking that they want to stay there a night or two to go to Pompeii or to the Amalfi coast. From our recent experience, it is better to do a day trip from Rome, where the hotels are better quality (the Westin in Rome was lovely). There is also a Ramada Hotel in Naples and the Hilton is being remodeled and will reopen in February.
But Naples is not much to see, crowded with lots of graffiti and not very clean, so I would recommend a daytrip from Rome or staying at the local hotels (not the Marriott Naples). An overnight in Capri or the Amalfi is a better decision. In fact you could totally skip Naples, as visiting Pompeii is an easy day trip from Rome. You don't need more than a day to visit the ruins.
We are Marriott Platinum and Hilton Diamond members, and I've never seen such a shabby "Renaissance" or such careless employees.
We had two rooms booked which were supposedly "upgraded" to the 6th floor. We walked into our room to find lots of stains on the walls including unidentifiable splatter and stains on the walls. Huge cracks in the floors. There were no water bottles in the rooms for Elite members. I uploaded pictures to Yelp.
Just after check in, I went downstairs to speak with the gentleman at the front desk to advise him of the stains and show him the pictures and told her that this was not a clean room. He seemed unconcerned, and said that the splatter on the wall was probably coffee! I asked him to have someone clean it and to wipe down all the stains on the walls. They tried but they could not be removed...that's how long they had been there. Usually hotels try to paint over these to make the room presentable to guests, especially if they call themselves a Marriott Hotel. Not here.
We booked the "advance purchase rate" but found that the rate was at least 60 Euros cheaper per day after the fact. In fact, it was even cheaper the day of check-in. They try to lock you in to an expensive rate, so that you cannot cancel the reservation or depart early.
The WiFI was Non-existent! They said that they sent the "engineer" to fix the Wi-Fi, however they did not. My husband and I attempted to log-in multiple times and the service was literally the speed of dial-up...in the 1990s. With the 8 hours time difference between Italy and the U.S., we thought we would get back after our tour and login and work, but that did not happen. Again, the staff seemed unconcerned & gave us the runaround.
We asked to be moved to another room the second morning, because we Really needed to connect with work, however the young lady at the front desk advised us that the engineer had "fixed" the Wi-Fi and that it should be better and she could not move us.
The Wi-Fi did not improve at all. I have uploaded screenshots of the Wi-Fi speed test that show that it is equivalent to dial up; This is unacceptable for any hotel in 2017, much less a Renaissance Marriott hotel.
Finally, when I asked for a refund of our prepaid stay, a supervisor named Anna, did not reach out to us until 11 o'clock the last day of our stay. She was kind enough, and she moved us to the first floor which are basically small meeting rooms that they put a bed in. Still very plain rooms but at least the Wi-Fi was better there. However these are actually meeting rooms and not guestrooms. However, it was too late for us to connect with our work and clients as it was Saturday, December 30, 2017. She gave us a transfer to the train station (15 Euro value). We spent 780 Euros for the 3 nights for one room and used points for the other room. That was such a waste of points!
I have reached out to Marriott Customer Care (customer.care@marriott-service.com) for a refund of our prepaid stay and will continue to do so until I see a resolution to my satisfaction. Make sure to be vocal if you have issues at this hotel, because otherwise they will continue to take advantage of guests, and to "bait" them into pre-paying for what they think is a Renaissance-quality Hotel, when it is barely a 2-Star Hotel.
Please see the pictures and videos that I have uploaded.
They managed to not "check me out" such that I would not be able to post my review on Marriott.com. Anna the supervisor said that she would check me out and email me my statement, but three days later I have received nothing. I had to call Anna while still on vacation and ask her why I have not been checked out and did not receive my statement or credit for my stay. I believe this is a tactic so that I cannot leave a review on the Marriott app or website, which is what most Marriott Elite members review before they book a hotel stay.
Finally, the breakfast was mostly desserts and cakes, & the staff was rude. AVOID THIS HOTEL! read more
