Every since I was a little kid watching the History Channel like a total nerd, it has been my dream…read moreto see Pompeii. So, when we booked a summer trip to Italy, there was no question that Pompeii was a must see. Booking a hotel was easy because there's really one property with great reviews and that's Hotel Diana. For 75 Euros a night, the price was just right. Due to some absurd travel delays, we ended up rolling in on the last train of the night from Naples. . . and it, apparently, went to the wrong train station in town. We called the hotel at 11 PM and explained our problem: the train station was now closed, there were no taxis, and we were the only ones there. The front desk clerk called us a taxi, who showed up shortly and gave us a ride. I didn't realize how wrong the wrong train station was until we drove over 20 minutes just to get to the property. For the record, the "right" train station is literally half a block from the hotel. Oops! Make sure you're choochooing into the right place, friends. When we got there, we were checked in promptly and given keys to our room. The room is sort of garishly decorated, but whatever. It was clean, it was a good size, and it had an ice cold ac. The bathroom was a good size and very clean. Despite our late arrival, the front desk agent pointed us to a pizza place down the street that was still open. Can I tell you? Literally the best pizza I have ever had. Phenomenal! And like, half a block from the hotel. Pizzeria Alleria, check them out. So good we went back twice. We slept well, grabbed the free breakfast in the morning (which was fine), and headed to Pompeii. Now, for some reason, I thought the Hotel Diana was right next to Pompeii, but it is not. You've got to walk about 10 minutes, which isn't much. Well, it's supposed to be 10 minutes, but we made a wrong turn and it took us quite a bit longer than it should have. Oops. There also seemed to be a rather happening hot spot right down the street from the hotel, so if that's your thing, that's a plus. Check out was easy and they helped us figure out the train schedule, which was much appreciated. All in all, I would definitely suggest Hotel Diana. It's got a great location, friendly staff, and great pricing.

While it might not be the Ritz-Carlton it certainly will make you feel like it is. Best…read morecappuccinos I've ever had in Italy! Great service. Ice cold AC. Spotless clean! My only suggestion would be a little bit more soap and shampoo and adding conditioner. But they are so hospitable and everything is so perfect they are getting five stars anyway!! And I am a bitch of a critic!

This was hands down the best hotel of our Italy 2017 extravaganza…read more Upon checking in, the staff was pleasant and accommodating. They had us check in in no time. As soon as we walked in the room, I was impressed with the layout and the bed was so comfortable. We arrived at night just in time to grab some dinner and drinks. The grounds of the Hotel Forum are almost it's best quality. Beautiful The food was magnificent. The wine delicious. This place is also right next to the south gate of the ruins, an d it only takes literally 3 minutes to walk there. we loved this place. great location. Clean. The restaurant does a great breakfast and even better dinners. We'd definitely come back here.

What a well done rather elegant hotel in the heart of…read morePompeii, just off the town square, about .8 mile from the entrance to the ruins (Take a taxi back if you walk up, because we walked 4 miles according to my Fitbit for the 4 hours we spent at the ruins, and there was no way my wife could walk back to the hotel - call a cab and spend the 10Euros. But...our room 56 is a bit contorted to get to, but that is part of the fun. Elevator to 2nd floor, then up steps to the left, open the door to cross the rooftop lounge area replete with greenery and lounge chairs, the up a few steps through a metal door, immediately left up the ramp to the short hallway with 3 or 4 rooms - 56 is on the end all the way up the ramp, lol. The card needs only be held to the keypad, easily done without removing if from my wallet which was nice - you see those electronic keys here and there in the US, but more so in the EU I've found. The room's tile floors, sofa, large bathroom with lounging tub and accessorized with a couple tubes of foaming bath gel made for a nice hot water soak after all that walking among the ruins. The bonus for us in room 56 and I suspect valid for the other 2 rooms on the top of the place, is that our little balcony looks right at Mt. Vesuvius - what a great view. The topper is the out of the way, courtyard, off the street placement of the hotel. The fruit trees, the courtyard area with ample chairs, lounge chairs, large umbrellas covering some of the tables and chairs all create an elegant, private, quite place to relax...because access is off the street and you must walk back to the courtyard you'd miss the place entirely but for the sign and taxi stop with their name at the curb. The king size bed is great, looking forward to the included breakfast in the morning - warning for the physically challenged, lots of stairs in this hotel even with an elevator - so if you need to, tell them up front about any physical limitations. There was another couple from the UK staying there, but the rest we saw and heard were Italians, to me a good thing. Also, the front desk staff had great English, was very helpful with recommendations and directions, and very good service for small things like calling a taxi for us and advice about visiting the ruins (slick rocks, uneven surfaces so proper shoes and advice that was practical, helpful, and thoughtful). We'd stay here again in a heartbeat and we haven't even tried the restaurant yet - top quality all the way around. 4 stars not 4.5 or 5 due to the stairs and convoluted layout of the place, but everything else is wonderful. Only small dings as to why not that 5th star are upkeep issues and rooms rather convoluted in layout. Our room for instance; plastic housing on the provided hair dryer broken off in part, towel warmer at the tub very rusted and peeling, left bathroom sink cracked leaving spider web cracks in basin. Just needed some replacement of the those things. About 200 Euros for the night.

We pulled up after a long day of speed-walking through the ruins of Pompeii, hot, sweaty and a bit dusty, to be seated at these really pretty yet somehow cramped tables. The setup was nice and the staff was friendly. They made it a point of making an announcement ahead of every bottle they poured, but we were spread out and the waters' voices didn't really carry. We were greeted with a bubbly and individual charcuterie boards, with more meats than cheeses. The main was a small serving of big tubed pasta (like rigatoni, but bigger...a *bigatoni*, if you will...ha, see what I did there? BIGatoni. Hey, where are you going) in a red sauce. The pasta was super al dente, even by Italy's standards. The sauce was zesty and a little loose. Dessert was a kind of trifle, with fresh fruit and sweet cream in a jar. Each course was paired with a wine, naturally. The wines were good and flavorful, and everyone at the table enjoyed the pairings. We were given a bit of time once the meal was finished to walk the grounds, and I can see how this property would be popular for parties, galas and weddings.

The staff are incredibly friendly, prices are reasonable, and you stay at a beautiful resort with horses, chickens, other farm animals, a winery, pool, etc. It was perfect and if we come back to Pompeii we will be staying here for longer!
