It's an interesting coastal town and heavily touristy. You can choose to lounge, sunbathe, grub or scarf food, shop, sightsee, tour and go hiking. A couple days' stay or less is good enough. It seems the primary attraction is their Duomo. Even with just that I was satisfied with our visit. While it's also one of the best points to reach the islands, it isn't the only point. Of course, it's more expensive here for spending. It's definitely romantic.

Dramatic jagged cliffs, glistening Mediterranean water makes a once in a lifetime trip to the Amalfi Coast. The most exquisite coastlines in the world.

We traveled the Amalfi Coast in a small group van with a tour guide. It was absolutely breathtaking but, i don't think I could have driven it myself. The turns and tunnels were at times scary but, it was so worth taking to see the beauty. The day was gorgeous and the weather was perfect. We drove the entire coast and made stops along the way at the various scenic overviews and small towns like Minori and Maiori. Of course with all the lemons around we had to purchase some of the famous Limoncello. Then there are the shops in Vietre sul Mare that sell the local ceramics and pottery. It was the real thing that you will have a hard time finding anywhere else. We found a small shop that offered to ship some back to the states for us. We especially enjoyed stopping in Amalfi and touring the town. We visited the Cathedral and had a special pizza for lunch followed by Gelato for desert.

Very old church in the middle of the town

This is one of the most beautiful coastline in the world... it was given UNESCO designation and it so deserving. I've never seen a more beautiful landscape in Europe. It is a 50 km stretch of super windy and hilly roads that can easily tumble into the sea. The sea itself is a deep dark azure that sits below darkened rocky shoreline and hides the quaint and picturesque fishing villages that have turned more towards seaside sleepy resorts. I do understand the negative reviews... we were told that the public transit here is a nightmare. It is slow... unreliable... and not comfortable. I did a private tour and was comfortable in a cushy chair with perfect AC. I totally recommend to enjoy the landscape and it is an absolute nightmare to navigate. If you think google maps is gonna help you... uh no. Only the espresso infused and brave could do this driving without having a heart attack or plummet off the cliff. I do have to admit that the towns are quite cute and some have some unbelievable food. You do have to be wise as some are just plain bad tourist traps but if you find a nonna making food, consider yourself lucky that you will be eating like a queen or king shortly. There are many little towns that dot the coastline but Positano, Sorrento, Salerno, and Amalfi are the most stunning. It can be quite expensive as well... so if you're wanting to enjoy the coast for a few days, bring a gold card at least... ok platinum.

It is difficult enough to plan an engagement, let alone trying to plan it from a different country where you don't speak the language. However, with the help of Valaria, everything I was nervous about went smoothly. In September, I decided to propose to my then girlfriend on a boat, while at sea, with Positano in the background, on our first visit to Italy! I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do but thanks to Valeria and Francesco, I was able complete my vision. Valeria helped me arrange a violinist, a photographer, champagne, flowers for the special occasion. Francesco, who is Valaria's husband is the captain of the boat who picked us up from Santa Caterina hotel boat dock and hung out with us happily for hours. My now fiancé thought that it was just going to be a private sightseeing cruise as Francesco hid the violinist and the photographer below deck until it was time to propose. I was totally surprised! He also popped the champagne for us. Francesco took us around and gave us a tour before I proposed. He dropped us off at different ports in the Amalfi coast and always waited for us patiently while we enjoyed ourselves on land. Even while eating, shopping and drinking. He was never too far away and reachable via cell phone at all times. He also had the best attitude! He was such a pleasant guy which was an added bonus to our already perfect day. After I proposed (and she said yes!), I finally felt relaxed enough to actually enjoy the sights as Francesco offered to take us wherever we wanted to go such as The Blue Grotto, Capri, Positano, around Amalfi Coast, and so on. He also offered to let us jump in the ocean which we did (one of our best memories from our Italian trip) while they captured our moments in photos! Thank you to Exclusive Cruises for making our day and being so accommodating in every way. I couldn't have done it without you! We will always recommend you guys to anyone who asks. Thanks again!" -Glenn

We cruised on a small boat with just the two of us and our wonderful captain, Luigi. I'd highly recommend choosing a private tour if at all possible because you can go to areas the bigger boats can't, you're not confined to a set agenda and you can jump out of the boat when you want. During our tour, we left early in the morning from Positano and first cruised around the private island of Li Galli before heading east to Praiano and Amalfi. Along the way, we saw the Furore Fjord, Devil's Mouth and Arc of Lovers, and we jumped off the boat at a secluded grotto for a quick swim in the Mediterranean. From there, we cruised to the Isle of Capri, through the famous Arch of Love and visited several of the island's renowned grottos - again jumping out for a swim. On the way back to Positano, we stopped at the town of Nerano for a late lunch. It was truly a magical day along one of the most beautiful shorelines in the world, and a huge reason was our extraordinary tour guide, Captain Luigi!
