This is for the Augustiner beer garden not the hall..and this is the place to go if you want the massive outside beer garden experience. People sitting and enjoying their day and their beers everywhere. Like a huge picnic. Some even brought tablecloths for their tables. Amazing experience. You funnel into the beer and door are, fill your tray, grab a beer and pretzel, check out and pay then find a table. Repeat if you like. We ate heartily, had big beers, and relaxed for quite awhile to take it all in. Great way to end our little beer tour.
Augustiner Keller is one of those places in Munich that effortlessly blends tradition, atmosphere, and great beer. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the shade of old chestnut trees and the lively buzz of both locals and visitors. It feels authentically Bavarian without trying too hard. The highlight, of course, is the Augustiner beer from wooden barrels--smooth, fresh, and easily among the best you'll find in the city. The food matches the quality of the beer: hearty classics like roast chicken, pork knuckle, and Obatzda, all prepared well and served in generous portions. Nothing overly fancy--just solid, traditional Bavarian fare done right.
We went to both the beer garden and the restaurant here and enjoyed both experiences. Generally, this is is an absolutely huge space. It's a five minute walk from the train station but feels very tucked away. Lots of trees and shaded nooks to explore and relax - a very comfortable spot. Restaurant: we sat outside on a pleasant patio and received prompt and friendly service. The beers we had were delicious, and we were happy that the restaurant had a bit more variety than the typical beer hall. We shared spatzel and a salad with breaded chicken breast - both were well prepared and refreshingly light compared to other meals we have had. It made for a pleasant afternoon. Beer garden: we liked that there were options for both self service and table service. Self service has a cafeteria style place for food and drink. Less options for non pork eaters but we grabbed a pretzel and beers and were happy. Service was admittedly grumpy but it was the day before Oktoberfest so I can imagine the stress. All in all, two enjoyable afternoons!
Excellent Bavarian food! This is the kind of restaurant I envisioned visiting in Munich. It looks like a place you'd find replicating Bavaria in Epcot. The Augustiner Beer is my favorite so far in Munich. I ordered the Hefferweitzer and loved it. I am not a beer drinker. At all. But when in Munich... The sausage was good (even if it doesn't look like anything special). I ordered the Bavarian raviolis which was okay. Someone at our table ordered the pork knuckle which was served roasted with crackling skins and dumplings. The food is very heavy leaving no room for a sweets at the end. I consider the beer as my dessert. The place is huge. Multiple levels with outdoor seating. Private rooms available for large crowds.
Close to the main train station and a little bit of walk from Old Town, Augustiner-Keller is an authentic beer garden. Aside from the occasional bus load of tourists who get dropped off here, this is mostly where locals go for a beer garden. The grounds are huge, with luscious green trees covering some areas, and live music playing. The ambiance screams summertime in Bavaria. What I like about this particular beer garden is that there is a service area and another self-serve area. I prefer the self-service area, because you can pick and choose what you want from a cafeteria-like line-up instead of trying to figure out what each item is on the menu. Even with an English menu, it's not always clear what it is until you see it. With self-serve, you can. We got the roast pork in gravy with red cabbage, sausages with potato salad, and cheese spätzle with fried onions. All were pretty good considering they came from a cafeteria line-up. The roast pork came with some crunchy cracklings too. The potato salad had a good tang. The cheese spätzle was like the German version of mac n' cheese with fried sweet onions on top -- the ultimate comfort food. Note: Augustiner beer is only available in 1L mugs. This beer garden is family-friend too, as evidenced by many young children drinking beer with their parents... I mean, there is a children's playground.
This restaurant is absolutely massive!! Definitely the largest dining hall and Biergarten I've ever seen! It's lively and full of good vibes. Everyone around us seemed to be having a great time. I started with the asparagus cream soup and it was peeerfect! Rich and creamy just how I like it. We also shared the Tiroler Bergbauernsalat, which came loaded with bacon, croutons, lettuce, Parmesan, and mushrooms. It was fresh, hearty, and hands-down the perfect salad with a glaze of balsamic vinaigrette. Of course I had to get the pork knuckle, it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Absolutely delicious! I also ordered the Pfefferschnitzel, thinking it was going to be a classic fried schnitzel, but it turned out to be grilled. That one was on me... I misread the menu. :( Unfortunately, I didn't like it. The noodles on the side was bland and boring. The peppercorn sauce was too thick and not very flavorful. I'd definitely skip that one. Overall, the restaurant lives up to the hype. Worth stopping by!
Very old, traditional, and classic Bavarian beer garden and restaurant. This is a popular place so the staff hustles. Ate lunch here before an event and wanted a traditional dish. Co-worker had the pepperschnitzel with spaetzle. He said it was excellent. I had the wienerschnitzel with potatoe salad. It was spot-on! It doesn't any better than this.
Augustiner-Keller was the best introduction to German beer and cuisine. We didn't have a reservation but were fortunate to be seated after 5 minutes. We were led into the giant hall and seated at the communal tables. It was easy to start conversing with our neighbors. The place was bustling with activity and yet our waitress was so attentive. Our food and drink came quickly. Highly recommend the pork knuckle. The beers are fantastic. Cash and card are accepted. When you pay cash, tell them how much you're paying or else they'll keep the change automatically. I didn't know this and ended up tipping over 20%.
BEER! and more BEER! When in Germany. Loved the drinks here (better than Hofbrau). We tried the original,dunkel and wheat beer. All were good. It's again communal seating like all beer halls but I liked that they seated us after a wait so it was not chaos. A bit more understated and elegant than the other one. But both are worth going to! Food here was decent too. We got the pretzel,risotto and some potato ball thing with mushroom gravy. I'd go back if I was in Munich again!
Augustine Keller is a gem. It's a Bier Garten that has a strong commitment to giving back to the community. They are involved in various charitable initiatives, supporting local causes and making a positive impact in the area. You can go down into the "Keller," or cellar which was an adventure down a windy staircase. I had their salad. It was huge, fresh and flavorful. The inclusion of pickled mushrooms was a unique and thoughtful touch that added a tangy goodness.
My wife and I were on a five day trip to Munich and a friend of mine recommended this beer garden. It was packed at 7 PM on a Tuesday and I ordered half a pork knuckle. I also ordered a beer of course and the service was great. I loved the outside feel on a perfect day. The pork knuckle had lots of meat and a crispy skin from roasting. Delish! There were tons of people enjoying their company and drinking some great German beer. You have to go here if it is nearby. A true German classic! read more

Great location, great atmosphere, great experience - only consistency could be better. Service was fast and food delicious but beer was never properly filled to the mark and the same dish looks different, depending on the kitchen it came from. Still five stars as the rest was perfect. read more
Still my "go to" place in Munich. The food is great, and the experience is even better. Service is friendly, but definitely at a leisurely pace. The indoor space is classic old school German decor, and the beer garden is spacious and full of fun, families, food and beer. read more

The food was really good. The ochenfetzen was very delicious. The beef cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. The roasted potatoes are also very good. The spatzel was equally as good. The onions were crispy and delicious. The Apple strudel was also very good. The vanilla sauce is delicious but not overly sweet. I love European desserts. The beer was good also. The service was fairly slow and non-existent compared to the other places we have been too but it wasn't horrible. read more
Really liked the food and vibe here and actually preferred it to Hofbräuhaus. The patio was really nice and we enjoyed sitting there. The vibes here felt more relaxed and less touristy. I had this fried cheese thing with cranberries which was a special. I actually really enjoyed it and I don't always like fried cheese. My friend had some sort of German ravioli thing which she enjoyed. Our server was also super nice and everything came out pretty quick. read more
We wanted to stop at one traditional beer garden in Munich on our last day and this place was recommended by our local tour guide. It is an enormous location with even a gate and driveway to the main building. Inside is lively and busy. Reservations are definitely recommended at night. We went during lunch time when it was slightly less busy. I had the schnitzel and my partner had the pork knuckle. We both really enjoyed our meals and beers. The best part was the vibe of the location. Our waiter was also hilarious and constantly making jokes to every table. It reminded me of Prime Time diner at Disney world in that sense. Definitely check this place out if you're craving a Munich beer hall experience! read more

Great food and service. This place is huge and is packed with customers. We didn't have a reservation but they had a large table at the entrance of the restaurant that they save for no reservations customers. Here we shared the table with other customers which I had no issues with. Just glad we were able to be seated. read more

Service was good. Food was decent and the outdoor seating was nice. The meat was tender but also tough. The Pfefferschnitzel noodles were homemade and good, but a little undercooked. Overall nice restaurant and good service with good food. Would come again. read more
WORST service EVER! I have never experienced the rudeness of a wait staff in my entire life. We came in, sat ourselves outside, the waiter came over( wish i knew his name but he wasn't wearing a name tag) and pretty much told us what we were ordering.. he just wanted to give us beer and I don't drink beer, I wanted a water abs my friend wanted something else them beer. He got mad when we said, I'm no beer for me can I have a .... He immediately was annoyed and tried to push it on us but eventually walked away. He came back in through all of our drinks at us and then asks us if we want food. We said YES we are starving and ready to order. He walked away and didn't come back for 20 min. WHEN he returned he said we had 2 min to order before the kitchen closed and all they had were two options from the menu left. We were like what?? 2 options out of the whole menu.. he proceeded to yell at us screaming out the 2 options. I was so hungry and there was literally nowhere else open so we just picked one of the options. My boyfriend asked about Apple strudel. And if there was a slice you could order. The way to literally told him that he's was gonna kick him out for asking that question. We were really confused. We ate our food and quickly got the help out of there.... Never again!! read more

Great service, amazing beer brewed to perfection, flavorful and just hits the spot. I had the beef with potato's and steamed veggies and was all very good. The overall atmosphere during the day is fun, energizing with a great mix of locals and tourists. Met a great family from Scotland that was visiting Munich for holiday and they were inviting and had a great conversation with them at the shared table over some food and beers! read more

This is a must stop for anyone who has never been to a traditional Bavarian beer garden. Housing people in the 1000's it is a chaotic scene so if possible, ask around ahead of time to go with a local who can guide you around. For example, be careful not to sit in a reserved space, sometimes with table cloths, otherwise sit at open, self-serve tables with nothing on them. What you must order is a beer Krug, or a very large mug (1 liter or 33 oz) because they are fun to carry (with your palm) toast to and drink from. The lager, poured straight from a wooden barrel, is smooth, refreshing and well balanced. But you can also try a "Radler" which is a blend of spritzty lemonade-like drink with wheat beer, which makes for a sweetened low alcohol option. The food is squarely Bavarian - so lots of pork, potato composite, pork ribs, pork chops, cabbage salads and there's even a kiosk selling grilled fish. There are pretzels, sausages, other unidentified sliced meats and even a lousy attempt at a pasta dish. The entire experience is very festive and feels like you're amongst a very large summer camp because you're outdoors amongst the dirt and trees. The food experience is interesting - and worth trying, despite a lot of it being on the dry and/or salty side. But I've been told that is very traditional! That's all... read more

Went solo and sat next to some amazing people. Had great convo and beers. Food was good. My first time here. Definitely would want to venture back during Oktoberfest festivities. read more
You can't go wrong with the food here. However the biggest treat is the beer. The service can be a bit slow at times, but this might be due to not being German. The vibe here is awesome with everyone outside enjoying beer and food. Reminds me of a picnic atmosphere. If you find yourself in Germany you have to find this place. read more
Eating outdoors in May at a beer garden in Bavaria what more can you ask for? The Radler beer/lemonade is amazing. It comes down real sweet and smooth with zero aftertaste. The edelstoff beer was fine. For food we had the The kasespatzle (buttery pasta without the butter), the brotzeit (combo plater of everything) all were good. The standout however is the haxnpfander. It's roast pork(crispy skin), veal, dumplings and sweet red cabbage. German cuisine at its best. Folks it's not just the food, it's the soccer fans attired in FC Bayern Munchen singing their hearts having a stein just before the match. Even this jet lag tourist hasn't failed to enjoy this very European moment. read more
I have this spot bookmarked but can't remember which food show featured it. We arrived around 9:30 on a Tuesday evening and they were busy. Biergarten/Rustic decor and loud/upbeat atmosphere where a big group could break out in song with raised glasses at any minute. We ended up sharing a table with another party of two who happened to be locals. It ended up being an even better evening as we had introductions and connected. We ordered, based on our server's recommendation, Augustiner Edelstoff (Lager). Very light/crisp and paired well with dinner. The Zwiebelrostbr (Grilled Sirloin Steak) was tender and tasty although some parts were over cooked -was supposed to be Medium). The side roasted potatoes were pure comfort-delicious! Nurnberger sausage plate was served on top of Sauerkraut. 6 sausages that were tasty and paired well with the abundant bed of Sauerkraut. Our neighbor advised me not to eat all of the huge portion of Sauerkraut-I wisely listened. The Kasespatzle was amazing! Just the right amount of cheese with the fried onions taking it over the top. We had a second round of Beer. This time a Dunkel (Red) and Weissbeer. Both were enjoyed but heavy when compared to the Lager. Our waiter brought out complimentary Pear Schnapps shots which was a nice touch. Prost! He was upbeat, engaged, having fun and took great care of us. We saw a huge outside seating area. About a 10 minute walk from Central Station. Great spot for Beer and Local flavor! read more
