Crispy roast pork
Marlette C.

We had so much fun dining here while visiting Munich. The place was lively with so many people and live music playing. It wasn't easy to get seated. I asked another patron how to get a table, and she said to just grab anything that's open. There weren't many tables for 2. Most of the tables were long communal tables, which was cool. Somehow, the servers are able to know who have just arrived. We had just found a seat and started looking at the menu, and within a couple of minutes, a server came to take our order. We shared the Crispy Roast Pork because we didn't want to take anything back to the hotel, and the dishes are huge enough to share. It was delicious. There was a lot of sauce, but the pork skin didn't get soggy. Of course, I had to try their beer. I had the Hofbräu Original, which was so easy to drink. I thought I wouldn't finish it, but it's definitely not heavy like the beers in the U.S. I'm so glad the hotel front desk told us this place would be open on Christmas day.

This place is honestly a MUST VISIT when you are in the city. You could check out the Stein lockers, which is really really cool. I bought myself a Stein while I was there. THE BEER IS JUST DELICIOUS! I'm not really a big beer person, but I found that it was nice and smooth. The food comes out quick, but you need to make sure that you act quick on finding a seat or have a reservation because it is first come first serve. This place is honestly very very traditional and the music is amazing.

You can't visit Munich without stopping here! This iconic spot is packed with history, charm, and of course amazing beer. If you can, read up a bit on the brewery's legacy before you visit, it makes being here during Oktoberfest even more special! Right in the heart of Old Town, you'll find both indoor and outdoor seating, with a classic Bavarian atmosphere that's lively and full of local flavor. I highly recommend the schnitzel and German potato salad--perfectly crispy and tangy paired with a pretzel or brat. And of course, the beer! They serve half-liter mugs and the classic giant steins. The house light is my personal favorite, but they've got great seasonal brews too. A must-visit for anyone who wants the true taste (and spirit) of Munich

The most famous beer hall in Munich - an experience you have to have. The place is huge and packed. Tons of people watching with tourists from all over the world mixed with long standing locals. You choose a seat - probably at a shared table - and servers come to you. This choosing a seat process is a little mystifying - we got shooed away from the first table we took that had no signs on it and then laughed as five or six other people experienced the same thing. Maybe put a sign on the table if you aren't serving there? Once we did get seated service was quick and efficient, if gruff. We only had drinks- a mass of dunkel and a mass of Russ'n - a Radler but with wheat beer. Both the beers tasted fresh and clean. Definitely a must do for a drop in!

*Food review only* * Goulash 3/5 * Crispy roast pork 2/5 * Roast onion beef 2/5 This is a place for drinking. This is not a place to eat food. Order the white beer and enjoy the music.

I came here for the first time in 2017 and came back again just last year. This place is amazing to drink at but on my last visit I also tried the food. We tried some sausages and some pork knuckle amongst some others items I cant recall. We sat outside on my last visit but if you can sit inside because its just as equally beautiful. The waiters and waitresses here are super busy so a little patience is needed, especially for a popular spot like this. When in Munich absolutely visit Hofbräuhaus!

Great first dinner in Munich. It is loud, but it's a beer hall but it is fun with the live music. Bread basket (decent, liked a few of the options) 1/2 Bavarian roast chicken (great!) Cheesy pasta dumplings (really good)

Bier is bier, but if you're visiting this is an awesome place to stop. Open Sundays, have band playing, great service and English speaking. Food was okay, hence the 4 stars. It's a bit on the pricey side, but worth the experience.

I drug my wife in to enjoy her first Bavarian beer at Hofbrauhaus in Munich. We walked upstairs to enjoy a quieter meal than would be offered downstairs. The decor was traditional yet elegant with numerous tables. I ordered the Winterzwickl which was a very large malt forward beer yet clean to drink and yes I drank it all. The sausages were good as well as the sauerkraut but not remarkable. The bread basket was surprisingly flavorful as the rye breads had amazing flavor. We ended up taking the leftover bread with us to enjoy on our train ride. I highly recommend a visit to enjoy the vibrant music and beer tasting but would temper expectations on the cuisine.

This is a 5/5 review of a German beer hall experience. My son and I had the seasonal venison in cranberry sauce, which was first rate. The atmosphere was electric, I think because this was match day between Munich FC and Madrid. At noon, the "Om Pa Pa" band started playing, and everyone joined in. Make sure you purchase a giant pretzel or cheese bread from the woman selling them from table to table, as they are quite good.

We went for a walk back to Marienplatz and passed by to Hofbrauhaus. It's a Bavarian Beirgarden in the city of Munich built in 1529 We got in and seated any where you want. We want to order their pork knuckle unfortunately their kitchen was closed. We ended up ordering their HB beer , watched live Bavarian music band and met Estafano from Rome. We had a great night enjoying the live band. The place was beautifully painted with murals. Old furniture's and decor back to

I swung by here several times while in Munich and it was always a good time. Sometime dinner (pork knuckle) but always beer. I am a lightweight so I ordered the Ruß'n (wheat beer with lemonade) Shout along when you can and have cash for a giant pretzel.

By visiting Munich, I feel like you have to stop by this historic beer hall, but I found it to be loud, dirty, and with mediocre food. The indoor beer hall has live music and rowdy people, making it hard to have conversations if catching up with friends (1 star off); the courtyard is quieter and more relaxing. Both the tables and floor have a persistent stickiness (1 star off), perhaps from spilled over beer? I don't think they are thoroughly cleaned. Lastly, the food is average (1 star off); there are better sausages and meats elsewhere. The only item that stands out for me is their Bavarian cream dessert with macerated strawberries -- kind of like a Bavarian pudding or panna cotta. You pick any table you wish to sit at, and a waitstaff will come to you. The menu is already on the tables. I like the tables by the entrance with ample lighting and great view of the decorated arched ceiling. Hofbräuhaus is mainly a stop for historic significance rather than present enjoyment.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to dine in this beautiful 150 year old restaurant. My review comes after its closure but it serves to honor the restaurant in hosting my visit. The Building is amazing where the walls and ceilings act as palettes for beautiful painted art. Stepping into the restaurant feel as if one is stepping through a time portal where one feels they are dining 151 years ago which is how old the building is. The ambiance is quite lively and energetic. Although the highlight is the space, the food is also very good. Their pretzels are served warm and fresh with a firm exterior and an interior that melts as it enters one's mouth. The soup is flavorful and healthy with not even a drop of oil pooling to the top. The schnitzel is as tender as it gets. The servers were knowledgeable and fast but it is always so busy that the restaurant should consider increasing staff as to improve customer service. Perfect location right in the heart of Marienplatz where the Glockenspiel is a stone's throw away. Overall, a wonderful restaurant to dine with great food and a beautifully historic setting!

We waited a bit outside - maybe about 15 minutes before we were given a table. Our waitress was great, but it was very obvious that they had a lot of tables to take care of in the extremely giant beer hall. If you need anything after you order and in between getting your food and paying, you'll need to wait a while. That being said, I think we're just used to extremely fast service in NYC. I had the Pork knuckle which was a whole roasted pork knuckle with home-made dark beer sauce and potato dumpling. We also had the Crispy roast pork with home-made dark beer sauce and potato dumpling. Both were excellent and the beer was also quite good. I had their signature wheat beer and then an Oktoberfest beer (because why not) and really enjoyed it. I do think I liked their signature wheat beer better, and would've gotten another one of those over the Oktoberfest one.

We got right in after maybe a 5 min wait and we were seated quickly tomorrow private table upstairs. There were 5 of us so it was very spacious and not too loud. We enjoyed beer and wine first and then we enjoyed several dishes that are in the pictures here. All were very good as most food in Munich at these restaurants is. Our server was very polite and she took our orders and suggested some items as well. Food came without too much delay and was very tasty. We stayed and enjoyed for at least 2 hours then back to the festivities once they cleared the bomb threat and started letting everyone back in. If you're in Munich for any reason - Schneider is a great place for some beer, wine and german food! Keep Munching!

Located just behind Old Town on Frauenplatz, it's a little off the beaten track, but not too hard to find. This Bavarian gem has been around for over 125 years. The food was so good. Here you will find traditional German, Bavarian food. We stopped by for lunch and it was packed with mostly locals. We were seated a large table with 3 other couples who were all from the area. One person brought his dog who kept running under the table to sniff my leg. Minus the dog, this was a treat and everyone was so nice. We even toasted when the cold Augustiner beer arrived. Again, we were told to order the sausages so we did. I ordered the 6 and my husband ordered the 8 sausages with sauerkraut. These looked like what we call breakfast sausage, they're thin but pack a a ton of flavor and were delicious, especially with the fresh sauerkraut. The staff was friendly and helpful with an English version menu. The atmosphere was cool and very authentic. Exactly what we were looking for when in Munich.

We got the Glöckl Platter which was a mixed plate of sausages. I could not decide which sausage was my favorite because I liked all three. The sausages in Germany taste more pure and less processed than the ones from the United States...and of course they are better in Germany! The side order of roasted potatoes was also delicious, with a crispy bottom, kind of like a cross between hash browns and home fries. The portions were smaller than other beer gardens I have been to though (1 star off). I was not familiar with German beers, so just told the waitstaff the glass size (1/2 L or 1L) and one was selected for me. It was light with some hops -- great with sausages and for summertime. We sat outside at a table squeezed between many other tables, but did not mind the crowd. It was great for people-watching in a busy part of town on a relaxing summer evening.

The Worst Experience of My LIFE !!!! (Das Schlimmste…read moreErlebnis meines LEBENS !!!!) This restaurant visit ruined what was supposed to be a wonderful day near Christmas. The service was shockingly unprofessional, unfriendly, and, most disturbingly, blatantly racist and discriminatory. Here's what happened during our visit on 20.11.2024, from 19:00 to 20:30: (Dieser Restaurantbesuch hat einen sonst wunderschönen Tag kurz vor Weihnachten vollkommen ruiniert. Unfriendly and Hostile Behavior When we ordered drinks, the female server practically threw the beer mat onto our table, displaying an outright lack of courtesy. (1. Disruptive Conduct During the Meal While we were eating, she carelessly threw items intended for other tables onto ours, disrupting our meal in the most unpleasant way. (2. Inappropriate Comments During Payment During the payment process, which we handled one by one, the card machine malfunctioned briefly. The server sarcastically remarked, "Thanks to the energy of the table..." or in German, "Die Energie des Tisches..."--a completely unnecessary and rude comment when we were simply sitting quietly and waiting. (3. Insulting Treatment After a Complaint After one of the guests at our table expressed dissatisfaction with the service, the server retaliated in an incredibly degrading manner. She used two beer mats to carry our used napkins into the tray, as though we were disgusting or unworthy of respect (see below illustration). This happened even after I had tipped for my part of the meal. (4. Dismissive Attitude While Ordering At the start, when I tried to order food and drinks together, the server rudely interrupted me, refusing to let me finish my sentence because I mentioned food (Schnitzel) before the drinks. (5. The service was not only terrible but deeply offensive. As a scientist, I am committed to reporting facts accurately, and every detail I've shared here reflects the absolute truth of what we experienced. This dinner, so close to CHRISTMAS, should have been an enjoyable and peaceful experience. Instead, it was destroyed by the disgraceful behavior of the staff. I do not know what we did to deserve such treatment, but I strongly urge anyone considering this place to think twice. If you value your peace of mind, avoid this restaurant--it could ruin your day too!
