We stopped at Hofbräuhaus München while exploring the city. We only came in for drinks and had beer and wine, so I can't comment on the food, but we really enjoyed our stop. The atmosphere is exactly what you picture when you think of a traditional Munich beer hall -- huge, lively and full of character. It was fun just walking through, seeing the different rooms and experiencing the atmosphere. Service was good, and I appreciated that there was wine available for those of us who aren't beer drinkers! Definitely worth stopping into while in Munich, even if you're just coming in for a drink. It's such an iconic place and a fun part of the Munich experience!
Housed in a grand Renaissance Revival building that echoes traditional Bavarian folk culture. Is this loud fun beer hall. The crowds out front and the music inside pulled us inside. The detail on the ceiling is just magnificent. We asked a waitress and she seated us at the table with a couple from New Jersey. We started with cold Hofbrau, and a pretzel. We shared a sausage platter and had to buy a small roll separately. Hofbräuhaus München is a world-famous, historic 3 story beer hall & tavern in the heart of Munich's Old Town. It is was founded in 1589 as a royal brewery for the Kingdom of Bavaria by Duke Wilhelm V. It features the legendary ground-floor Schwemme (beer hall), which seats around 1,000 people at massive communal wooden tables, there is also a shaded inner courtyard beer garden with chestnut trees for summer visits.

It was really cool to experience this place. I especially liked that they had a good selection of NA (non-alcoholic) options on the menu. The experience was a little overwhelming at first since there was no greeter or host--you essentially just walk in and choose a seat wherever you'd like. The waitstaff we had was okay. He was neither particularly welcoming nor rude, so I'm assuming some of that may just be part of the German culture and service style. There was a good variety of food options, and overall, we were mainly here for the experience, which made it worth checking out.
I unapologetically LOVE Hofbräuhaus! Though the replica in Vegas scratched that itch in between my 14 years of being away, nothing can beat the original. For the uninitiated- Seating is first come, first served (almost anywhere). No reservations. Communal seating. We visited in August, in time for their summer menu. We went with sausage platters, cheese sausage and "spicy" sausage, with potato salad. Not mind blowing, but still delicious. We also ordered a couple of rounds of their wheat beer offering. Very satisfying! The ambiance is top notch with the band playing traditional music. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Would recommend it to all visitors to Múnich and hope to return soon!
Fun place to experience for a crazy busy and loud atmosphere. Especially when we went during Oktober Fest. Quite touristy but worth a visit. Find a seat, get a beer with some food and enjoy the experience!
Come to Hofbrauhaus for the atmosphere. Walk in, find a table and enjoy the typical Bavarian pub. Rowdy, friendly and full of life. We sat at a large, long wooden table with a German couple and a father and his young son. Loved the Bavarian music in the Braustuberl. So fun and full of life. Everyone was raising their glass and singing along. Asked our waiter what was his favorite nonalcoholic beer. His answer was...."water." After trying the nonalcoholic beer, I understood his reply. Yuck! For dinner, my hubby had the beef goulash with a huge bread dumpling. I tried the summer menu assorted vegetarian dumplings. Beetroot, spinach and mountain cheese with market veggies and hard cheese. Both were good, but I would not get either again. Would definitely come here again for the atmosphere. 35,000 people visit on any given day. About 3000 can sit in the building and another 4000 in the Biergarten at any given time. Amazing!
huge beer hall near Marienplatz. seat yourself kind of place, so walk around and look for a table. or, join some people and make new friends! the wait staff is great, but on a busy day (like the day before Oktoberfest when we went), expect a little bit of a wait. the beer is tasty and the pretzels are massive. it can be a little loud, so don't expect to hold an intimate conversation. all in all, a great time and a great place to swing by in Munich!
One of those places you have to visit if you're in Munich. Like paying your dues! We visited during Oktoberfest shortly before food cut off / kitchen closing. We had a "spicy" sausage platter, sauerkraut, potato salad, a pretzel, and curry wurst with fries. Basically, we're all there for the beer and things to help you not die so you can have more beer (food). Hard to say if the food was an end of the night thing, a super crazy busy weekend thing, or if it's just meh all the time. The beer, fantastic! The space? Gorgeous! I'm so glad we came. Next time I might eat somewhere else and just come here for a liter and enjoy the beautiful patio / terrace / backyard area. It was really nice. If you're bringing older people or anyone with mobility issues: sit inside! The outdoor area is cobblestone without grout and very uneven. We were lucky to get a table but it was super angled and the wire chairs have to be portioned just so for it to work. Worth coming to visit? Absolutely. They also have a good gift shop if you need some things to take home.
ITS SEAT YOURSELF AND SHARED TABLES!! Also try and grab a spot in the patio area. Take a full lap around this giant place before grabbing a seat. This is the most German experience I've ever had. They had a band playing polka, giant pretzels, giant steins of beer and plenty of sauerkraut. The thing that I hadn't before is a pig nuckle and the outside was a bit overcooked but the middle was tender and paired nice with the kraut. Skip whatever hotdog/sausage dish, there was no flavor, but everything else was a decent. I wish the pretzel was fresher, but I think that this more a drinking hall that has food than a place to eat. If you're a tourist, come here for a shared plate or two and beer or three.
This is a huge beer hall. You just sit where you want with anyone. Service is nice but busy. Usually one waiter per 6-8 tables. So expect a wait. Take your time to enjoy the atmosphere. Beers come in large (mass) or small. Yes it's cold. They have a German band that plays music. It's decorated nice( Bavarian). We ordered the pork knuckle with potato dumpling. The pork is delicious with a crispy skin. The potato dumpling is ok . Not my thing. You can just stop in for beer if you like.,
If you're looking for a classic Bavarian beer hall, Hofbräuhaus is definitely worth visiting. We ordered the Bavarian roast chicken with a bread basket and a beer. The food came out pretty quickly, and the portions were decent. The atmosphere is what really makes this place. It's huge with plenty of seating, and the live band creates a fun, lively vibe. The only downside was the service, which wasn't the warmest. I wasn't a fan of how much they charged for still water. We paid the same price for a small bottle of water as we did for a beer, which felt a little unreasonable.
When in Munich do as the locals do; go to a Hofbrauhaus. Sausages and pork knuckles were great. Don't forget about the liter beer. Band playing inside was a nice touch. Only draw back on a great night was the heat inside. Great experience.
We had an amazing time here at the Hofbräuhaus!! The vibe was great, very busy with people drinking and having a great time all over. That being said, the service is not set up to be fantastic. We had an amazing server, but expect to seat yourself and wait a long time for your server to come back. I recommended ordering everything you want in one go! 3.5 stars but I'll round it up to 4. This is definitely a tourist trap but at least it's rather clean and generally friendly. The front has a gift shop, which confirmed tourist trap status. There are seats outside and inside the beer hall. You'll find a long table to sit in, unless you have some reservation. You get to share a long table with random folks, such as a French Canadian couple that sat across from me. I went for a pretzel for a bit of an appetizer. It was a solid pretzel but not amazing. It was firm on the outside and rather soft on the inside. The pork knuckle was probably the highlight of my meal. The skin, while quite limited in size, was crispy and the meat was tender and nicely flavored on the inside. The apple strudel was pretty terrible, with flavorless apples and a stodgy pastry. The apple spritzer drink was refreshing and not too sweet. Service was friendly, which was better than I expected. My server, while not always around, was patient and friendly to me throughout. There was live music while I was there, but I heard it's not always available. Yes, a trip here is a bit of a must in your trip to Munich, but you will end up finding better spots. read more

We were so excited to try this place since everyone was raving about it. Food was great, the service was quick so you just pick your own table and get acquainted with everyone there. We love the ambience, it brings a cozy atmosphere. We were not expecting anything special but we particularly enjoyed our dinner here and met people from other countries. read more
Hofbräuhaus München absolutely lives up to the hype. It was our family's first real experience in Munich, and there couldn't have been a better place to start. The beer was exactly what you'd hope for in Bavaria, the service was friendly, and the food was hearty and satisfying. What really makes this place special is the atmosphere. The hall is grand, colorful, and full of energy while still feeling authentically German. The live traditional music brought the whole experience to life and made us want to stay much longer than we planned. My wife and I were in Munich for a five day trip and we had to visit Hofbrauhaus. I ordered a beer from our super rude waiter, he was super curt and wanted us to cash out because he was leaving for the day. The ambience was cool, with tons of seating and I liked the polka band and the beer was pretty good, just the service was super terrible. Have a beer where Mozart had a beer! One of the nicer folks who've frequented the hall and others you can imagine! I've been here before and it was crazy packed! We declined on eating. This time, my daughters were visiting so I decided to take them there for a historical experience. It's rad! Bottom line and a must do when in München. While my youngest wasn't fond of the cuisine, I had the currywurst and it was amazing. As well, the dunkel was tasty and cold! While Mein Deutsch ist Schlect, most of the servers we encountered spoke English. You're going to be crowded. You might get beer spilled on you but you'll have tasty beer, good food, and an experience to talk about back home! read more

Been wanting to come here for years and finally did. Not too bad in terms of crowd, self seating seems to be the way of it. Everyone had small beers, I had a weis and some pretzel. All were good. Traditional German music started later and we listened for a while and took it all in. Grabbed a shirt at the gift shop on the way out on the way to more touring. read more

We had so much fun dining here while visiting Munich. The place was lively with so many people and live music playing. It wasn't easy to get seated. I asked another patron how to get a table, and she said to just grab anything that's open. There weren't many tables for 2. Most of the tables were long communal tables, which was cool. Somehow, the servers are able to know who have just arrived. We had just found a seat and started looking at the menu, and within a couple of minutes, a server came to take our order. We shared the Crispy Roast Pork because we didn't want to take anything back to the hotel, and the dishes are huge enough to share. It was delicious. There was a lot of sauce, but the pork skin didn't get soggy. Of course, I had to try their beer. I had the Hofbräu Original, which was so easy to drink. I thought I wouldn't finish it, but it's definitely not heavy like the beers in the U.S. I'm so glad the hotel front desk told us this place would be open on Christmas day. read more
This place is honestly a MUST VISIT when you are in the city. You could check out the Stein lockers, which is really really cool. I bought myself a Stein while I was there. THE BEER IS JUST DELICIOUS! I'm not really a big beer person, but I found that it was nice and smooth. The food comes out quick, but you need to make sure that you act quick on finding a seat or have a reservation because it is first come first serve. This place is honestly very very traditional and the music is amazing. read more

The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, the attitude of one staff member turned this into a place I would never want to visit again. Mr. Gashi pointed his finger at us simply because we did not leave a tip, and then proceeded to clear away all the plates while we were still eating. "Gashi, you said that we were the first Asian customers who had never given you a tip. But you are the first German person we have ever met who left us feeling this disgusted. Before demanding a tip, perhaps you should first ask yourself whether your service actually deserves one." read more
You can't visit Munich without stopping here! This iconic spot is packed with history, charm, and of course amazing beer. If you can, read up a bit on the brewery's legacy before you visit, it makes being here during Oktoberfest even more special! Right in the heart of Old Town, you'll find both indoor and outdoor seating, with a classic Bavarian atmosphere that's lively and full of local flavor. I highly recommend the schnitzel and German potato salad--perfectly crispy and tangy paired with a pretzel or brat. And of course, the beer! They serve half-liter mugs and the classic giant steins. The house light is my personal favorite, but they've got great seasonal brews too. A must-visit for anyone who wants the true taste (and spirit) of Munich read more

The most famous beer hall in Munich - an experience you have to have. The place is huge and packed. Tons of people watching with tourists from all over the world mixed with long standing locals. You choose a seat - probably at a shared table - and servers come to you. This choosing a seat process is a little mystifying - we got shooed away from the first table we took that had no signs on it and then laughed as five or six other people experienced the same thing. Maybe put a sign on the table if you aren't serving there? Once we did get seated service was quick and efficient, if gruff. We only had drinks- a mass of dunkel and a mass of Russ'n - a Radler but with wheat beer. Both the beers tasted fresh and clean. Definitely a must do for a drop in! read more

We went here for dinner on our first night while we were vacationing in Munich. This is one of the places on my hit list that I had to do first. This place is iconic. The atmosphere is exactly what I wanted. Live German music while we ate and drink. The music and the festive vibe there is just electric so many people having fun. Large beer, brew pub with long bench tables to eat at. Nice big gift shop to get your souvenirs. Our waitress who was dressed in a traditional dirndl was super nice and helpful. She was extremely patient with us as we could not decide what to eat for quite a while. I had the German pork knuckle, my son had a schnitzel, and the wife had a pretzel. We found out that pretzels in Germany are not served hot or with dipping sauces. Just the pretzel and butter, and it was still good. I had never had pork knuckle before and I was very pleasantly surprised. Loved it and it was very filling. And of course, the beer too was great. read more
Bier is bier, but if you're visiting this is an awesome place to stop. Open Sundays, have band playing, great service and English speaking. Food was okay, hence the 4 stars. It's a bit on the pricey side, but worth the experience. read more

Honestly this place has such a fun atmosphere. There is live music and the ground floor is communal seating where you sit yourself. It's such a refreshing casual space that you can relax and enjoy. The food was Bavarian traditional food. Had the pork knuckle which was a bit salty for my personal taste but goes well with beer. The skin is crackling crispy and the best part. read more
