If you are near downtown Munich, this place is an absolute must. Get ready. It's busy. But for good reasons. The ambience is warm, decoration is spot on and very Bavarian, the waiters are friendly. Unfortunately, they were understaffed, so the end of the night was slow, but I decided not to hold it against them because the food was amazing. If it's your first time, your must try the ox dish ("Du Ochs"). The meat is juicy, perfectly cooked and seasoned. The fried onions and potatoes complement the dish well and the sauce makes the whole thing exceptional. Put simply, don't judge German cooking until you've tried this. Our waiter was warm and gave us good suggestions. He was just dealing with a lot of customers. It's not surprising, however, given the quality of the food we got. It's a busy spot in a hotel so def make a reservation. They brew their own beer and make their own bread. Ambiance is cool, it's a much bigger space then it looks from the outside. Don't be surprised if they seat you a table larger then your party requires and then ask if they can seat more people at the other end. Spaetzle was their version of Mac and cheese, perfectly gooey with some crispy fried onions on top to add another dimension of flavor and texture. It came with a small salad in a mason jar that had a wheat beer vinaigrette. The brats were def more of a European style then we get in the states. The flavor was nice but be ready for big chucks of spice seeds inside. read more

What an awesome surprise just down the street from our hotel. I got the chicken with dumplings and mushroom sauces, everything was so good. My husband got the veal with Potatoes and sauerkraut and it was so tender. We did their version of flights getting .1l of each the Dunkels, Weissbrau, and Helles. All were good, but I preferred the Helles. This is a must go! What made it even more special was Josef our waiter. Outstanding service explaining every detail and even showing us other meals. After a full day of travel we were ready for some German food and beer. Based on a good rating on multiple sites, we gave this place a try and were not one bit disappointed. I had the lager and it was absolutely tasty, with a oaty aftertaste; plain delicious and at a great price for a 12 oz (€3.40). For dinner I had the schnitzel, which was served with cranberry sauce and fresh cut French fries. The schnitzel was crispy and tender, while the sauce was the right amount of sweet. The brew pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas and the front part of restaurant was very vibrant when we walked in. It seems this might be a place that sometimes requires reservations, so check ahead. If that fails, there's 3-4 seats at the bar. While we didn't check it out, there's also an outdoor area, though it was closed while we were there. As for the neighborhood this brew house is located in, some nearby stores are certainly a bit sketchy, but don't let that put you off. Check out Schiller's! read more

The basement is a tourist dungeon. I booked a tall table and arrived on-time. The ground floor was lively but less than half full. I was shown to a table in the basement - what I would say was the worst table in the house that had obviously been placed there as an afterthought, near both the kitchen and bathroom doors. I asked for another table. I showed the host my booking confirmation which indicated a tall table, all of which are on the ground floor. She said that the app always shows a tall table (not true: there are three table types bookable on OpenTable) and that all the tall tables were occupied. I was reminded of the old Jerry Seinfeld joke about the "holding" bit being the most important part of "taking" a reservation. The host did, begrudgingly, give me a table on the ground floor. Upon reflection, I realized that the basement was full of tourists while the locals were sat at the nice tables upstairs. I think sticking tourist marks in the basement dungeon is a lousy way to treat customers. The ground floor dining room is actually quite handsome in a chic-rustic sort of way. Although I was tempted by the schnitzel and several other meat dishes, I ordered the cheese dumplings. The dish was tasty and well-prepared with good ingredients, but it was badly over-salted which, in fairness, is a consistent facet of cuisine in Munich. The worst part was the portion: It was small - way too small for 17 Euro dish. It was more or less the same price as the schnitzel plate, which comes with two big pieces, fries, and cranberry sauce. After finishing my dish I was still hungry and had to order a side of fries (the soup on the menu was out), which also were badly over-salted, obviously frozen (not cut fresh), didn't come with any sauce, and cost 4.5 Euros. The house-made beer was the best part of the experience. I had both the hefe and the dunkel, and both were better than any of the high-volume producers in Munich. I would come here specifically for the beer. I'm glad - sort of - that I came here one time. But I wouldn't come again - definitely not without the company of a local. Yelpers have gotten this one wrong. 3/5 stars read more

We happened upon Schiller Bräu after taking an all day tour. The Yelp ratings and its proximity to our path back to the hotel attracting my attention. We arrived about 7 pm on a Tuesday and the outside seating and upstairs inside seating was mostly full; not promising for our party of eight weary and hungry adventurers. We were immediately noticed and despite not having reservations they opened the downstairs area and seated our large party. There two amazing and hard working servers who at once started looking after our needs and wants: Beatrix and Joseph. They were serving the upstairs areas carrying large platters of food upstairs and then checking on us as they came back down to the kitchen giving us fantastic service. The dishes were absolutely delicious. Four of us had the Curry Coconut soup; I HIGHLY recommend it if you enjoy Madras Curry in a Thai inspired coconut milk and chicken stock. I had the duck which was great. My wife had a delicious Goat Cheese Salad which was beautifully presented and flavorful. Others in our party had Schnitzel or Roast Pork and were pleased. The portions are generous. The house beers were very good, I had the Dünkel and my wife enjoyed their Helles. Really though it was the fantastic service and our wonderful servers who made this great meal a truly fantastic experience. Find this restaurant and if you are very lucky get to know Joseph and Beatrix a bit. They are so full of life and genuinely wonderful people it was a privilege to meet them. For my final night in town, I wanted to make sure that I had a great meal with some tasty beers. After seeing several recommendations and reviews, I decided that this would be the place to go. I am so happy that i did choose to come here as everything was excellent. I was also glad that I made a reservation ahead of time. My table was waiting for me when I arrived. I started the evening off with their 5 beer flight. You get their four beers plus the beer of the month. They all were so good. I also enjoyed a pretzel and three spreads with the beers. The dinner options all looked so good. But since I had not had schnitzel since I had been in Germany, I had to order it. It was so good! Seriously - do not go here. Went with a group of 4 tonight after I had found this place on Yelp, and it was my top choice of restaurants to check out for our trip in Munich. But once we got there, after being seated right away, it took them about 15 minutes to bring menus, another 20 minutes to take our drink and food order. Beers came after 20 more minutes, but time was ticking by and our food still hadnt come. We realized that service in Europe was slower than service in the US and we were patient. And we waited. And waited. Two of us in the group asked for glasses of water and the server told us he would bring "one for us to share." We thought surely he meant a bottle of water to share, but no, he actually brought one glass of water out for us to share. Didn't come by to give refills at any point after that for the water either. And this is where it gets really bad... We were still patient. Food still hadn't come. We looked at what time we got there by the time printed on our train ticket, and we had been there for over two hours and the food STILL hadn't come out. The server kept saying 10 more minutes at this point. After 20, half of our groups dinners came out and mine didn't. Kept getting told two more minutes. After 15 MORE minutes, I told the host to let them know that I didn't want my dinner anymore and to cancel it. It was going on 9 and we were tired and wanted to go to sleep, not wait longer for food that I had ordered an hour and a half ago. Once we said something, the host said he could go grab it from the kitchen now, and I told him no and that I wasn't hungry anymore. The server kept telling me 2 more minutes despite me telling him that I wanted to cancel the order. We asked for the check, and as they were getting it, the server still brought me out my food. Then, on the check, they still charged us for it. Unbelievable. We were so tired that we couldn't bare to say something and have to stay even longer. They offered no discount on any of our food either. It tells me everything I need to know about how they view their customers and their time. I understand if somewhere is understaffed or busy, but this was beyond any excuse. As someone who carefully plans meals on vacations and uses Yelp to find the best spots around town - trust me - DO NOT go here and waste hours of precious vacation time. read more

They were delighted to share! This local place was busy! Based on other reviews we had to try the schnitzel. Joseph was our server and was the best by making us at ease with a menu in English. A lucky yelp find, for sure. The neighborhood near the Hbf and the hotel we were staying at is...varied? colorful? Anyway, this is a pretty nice restaurant that's a little off the beaten path, but it was a good find and closer than walking in to the old city. I am laughing though, as others are commenting about the temperature inside...it was definitely warm in there, dress in layers. This is also one of the few places we say, maybe only, that did its own brewing - not sure if that's as popular in Europe as it is in the US, or if we just weren't at the right places, but that was a fun change, some new things to try. Food was also great - I had roast pork in gravy with two kinds of dumplings (mmmm, carbs and gravy) plus the crispiest pork skin I can possibly imagine. The pork was good, tender and flavorful, but I found myself wishing for a lot more gravy to eat with the dumplings. It was a busy night, but service was good and as with most places on my trip, I thought the price was pretty in line with what we got, no complaints there. So if you're at the Le Meridien or near the Hbf, and want something closer than the old city - this is a great option, in my opinion. read more

The restaurant is part of a hotel. Came here based on the reviews but was not impressed with the service, particularly with the person managing the bar and seating. He was rather unwelcoming, and it wasn't just to me. Someone asked for a clean fork and he told them they were on the table to which the guest responded that there weren't any in the canister on the table. The waitstaff was fine. Food was great though. I liked this place. It's a small (compared to the big names) brewery that brews their own beer and they have delicious food. The beers were good, I had a Weiss beer that I really liked. For food I had the sausages. It was delicious and came with lots of sauerkraut and yummy mustard. Got into Munich late after a cab ride that just about killed us. So this was close to the hotel so we stopped in. They were very busy but accommodated us. Place is really nice and a bit small but was very clean however it probably was about 90 degrees inside. The beer was outstanding and we got a couple different kinds and the sampler. There was a very good food selection and very much enjoyed our selections. The venison dishes were really good and nice treat being that isn't served in the states. After our meal we sat outside in the patio area and had another beer which was very nice. Definitely a place to check out. If you are not use to traveling the area can be a little bit rough but honestly it is safe. Also the bar area is very small if you are on your own. read more
