A Very Happy Birthday! On the day of my visit, it was my birthday. My daughter and I paid a visit to my brother, who lives a few miles away in Audubon. After we left him, the two of us were literally starving. On the way home, I drove through Audubon Shopping Center for a place to get a bite. I saw the bar and "bingo!" Ale House?!?! What could be better than a beer and a sandwich? There were about ten regular customers at the bar, and all seemed to be enjoying themselves. My daughter and I decided to sit at the bar rather than at a table. When my daughter mentioned it was my birthday, I was surprised and felt very honored that just about everyone wished me a Happy Birthday. We sat next to a couple and got engrossed in a great conversation. We ordered our beer and a menu special: a prime rib sandwich. Oh, wow, it was mouth-watering and so delicious! I savored every morsel of that sandwich! The Audubon Ale House is a bar's bar. By that, I mean that it's an actual bar that doesn't pretend to be otherwise. The customers all seemed to be regulars, and the vibe seemed to be right out of "Cheers," the TV series. If I lived in the area, I would probably go very often, just for the food and to meet and know some of the regulars. I highly recommend you try this place. They have various specials each day of the week. They also have outdoor dining, and that would be a lot of fun when it gets a bit warmer. read more

I moved to Audubon about a year ago and I've been looking for a place where I can enjoy an occasional Happy Hour on my way home from work. I stopped in a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed with the vibe and atmosphere. There was a regular in there who's every second or third word was an "F" bomb. My wife & I stopped in the Audubon Ale House on Saturday 8/26/23. We've been there before but it's not our "go to". It's a typical "dive bar" but the food is good, and we wanted a change. However, on this particular night there was a guy (Bobby) sitting at the bar being loud, obnoxious and downright vulgar. To be clear, neither I nor my wife are easily offended. We both drop our share of "F" bombs and we appreciate dirty humor. But this guy was absolutely disgusting; saying sexually explicit stuff for everyone to hear. Every other word was "F***" or "Motherf*****". I realize that an establishment can't control who walks through their door, but Management can ask offensive people to quiet down and/or to leave. And it was clear that Bobby was a regular; he knew just about all the patrons and the bartenders by name. Sadly, not a single employee said anything to him about his language. From my seat at the bar, it appeared that Bobby was making the bartenders very uncomfortable as they tried to minimize their engagement with him. As I said, this is a dive bar, so I'm not expecting white tablecloths and tuxedoed servers. But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect some minimal degree of civility. So, I can only assume that Management doesn't care about the negative impact of Bobby's behavior on other customers. Otherwise, he would've been banned from the bar long ago. I know this place has a lot of regulars and they won't miss the revenue from me & my wife coming in every few months. But eventually the regulars will die-off or move-on. Do you not care about attracting new or additional patrons?? Bobby was a disgusting human being, but I'm even more disgusted with the owners/Management for not doing anything about him. I would seriously recommend avoiding Audubon Ale House at all costs. There are nicer bars in the area, with food that's as good or better. And you won't have to apologize to your wife/girlfriend for dragging her into such a vulgar environment. Won't be going back. Lunch is above average bar food so if you are looking for local eats you won't be disappointed. Nothing blew me away but the food was prepared well and tasted good. Good amount of taps for a bar this size and they did a great job on the rotation. Troegs IPA as well as a Pumpkin beer were in the cards for this review. Served in a fresh cold pint glass each time which is important for me. Bathrooms are a disaster. Prepare yourself before you go in. They have a take out section with a good amount of craft brews including a Wegmans version of put your own 6 pack together. Not a big fan on how they have what beers are eligible to be in a 6 pack are set up. Pricing could get tricky when adding higher priced beers to the craft pack. I'd go to using a marker on the bottle cap like Wegmans does. The sticker deal is kinda crazy. You'll see what I mean when you get there. This is not Capones level selection but very solid. Solid happy hour crowd. Older and blue collar but an active spot. read more

I went here for lunch after working less than a mile from the place for close to 10 years. Yeah, I don't get out very much...I'm an "eat lunch at my desk" kind of person. Some co-workers asked me if I wanted to run out and get lunch and I thought hey why not...the location of choice--the Audubon Ale House..The tag line on the menu read "Purveyors of Good Times"...Well I'll have to be the judge of that one. The decor is pretty dated and the ambiance in the place in dark. It looks like your typical blue collar bar/restaurant (not that there is anything wrong with that of course). As we walked in, the bar was surrounded by construction workers at lunch break so we wandered into the dining room area that could probably seat about 20 max. The waitress was very accommodating and looked like she had been working there for years. I ordered the BLT wrap special which didn't come with fries (99 cents extra) and ended up being more wrap that actual BLT. The fries were undercooked and cold. Good thing that I was pretty hungry though and ended up eating everything in front of me. My co-workers ordered a club sandwich, roast beef special and a burger...all about average and all at a reasonable price. Overall the experience was so-so...I would have given it a much higher rating if the environment was more up date and brighter. If you are looking for a place to drink, look no further than this place but if you want food, this is the place I would definitely skip. We stopped by on the way home from outlet shopping over the weekend, hungry and craving bar food type appetizers. From the moment we walked in, I considered walking out the door. I think we were the only non-regulars that entered the whole time we were there. And by regulars, I don't mean Cliff and Norm. The bar area was filled with people that couldn't have looked less happy to see us, and the bartender took 10 minutes to motion to our table from the bar and ask what we wanted to drink, saying she forgot we were even there. Granted, they have a decent beer list. Mostly bottled, but still. The blinds were open, and it seemed like most of the people and the decor were all squinting in the light of day. Don't ask me why we stayed, but we did, and ordered the appetizer sampler, and an order of beef nachos. The bartender asked us how we wanted our wings done (mild, medium, hot, bbq), and we ordered medium. When the food came, the wings were dry with the sauce on the side, so the question probably should have been what sauce do you want on the SIDE. LOL. The nachos had chopped up frozen hamburger meat without any taco type seasoning, and barely melted cheese, with overly metallic tasting olives. The jalapenos and tomatoes were ok, and the chips were crispy, so at least it was somewhat edible. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were good, and the chicken fingers were chicken fingery. The cheese in the poppers was still solid, not melted enough to be oozy. Around our second beer, one patron asked to close all the blinds, mid-afternoon, and everyone seemed more comfortable. I switched from a Blue Moon to a Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and preseason football came on the TV. Other than the iffy food in front of us, we started to not entirely hate our experience. The service was spotty at best, and the bartender apologized when my husband paid our check, saying she'd never seen it that busy before. It definitely seems like it'd be an alright place to hang out as a bar, but when you're advertising "Food, Drinks, and Fun Times!" outside, my expectations are going to be slightly higher. Warning: Audubon Ale House is for locals, only if you're in the area! Most of the reviews are fairly accurate. The Ale House is pretty much a dive, and seems to be 99% regular patrons. The bartenders know all of them, and spend 99% of their time conversing with them and not with you, the newbie. People will look you up and down upon arrival, maybe with a quick judgment, but won't ever give you any trouble. The bar area isn't huge, and there are also about half a dozen four top tables around the bar with a pool table in the back as well. Personally, I've always found service to be just fine. Never had a problem waiting for a drink, or had unhelpful or snooty service, anything like that. Not super friendly, but what are ya gonna do. Food is not great at all; my corned beef reuben was very dry and overly toasted, and the french fries came right out of the bag. And not the tasty bag. The wings weren't bad though. read more

Here is where I have been buying my Dogfish Head 60-minute IPA on and off for the last year and a half. Being that tomorrow is Mother's day and dear old mum hasn't had a Ruben sandwich for a long time. we went out on a limb and tried the grub here. The Ale House has added more dining tables and booths, and service was acceptable. Food came within twenty minutes and it was good and hot. For myself, I had fish and chips and it was more than I could eat. Mum ate the whole Ruben and said it was very good. Waitress came by to check how things were, brought extra napkins out. We were so excited to find this place after a long day at the Expo Center around the corner. Bar food, beer, dimly lit, sign us up. However, very similar to another review, the bartender/waitress was less than remotely excited to see us. I believe we were actually an inconvenience to her (2 of us). I ordered chicken wings which come plain, mild, hot, or suicide, when I asked what happened to medium, I was informed that the hot was super hot and that I should just do that and not worry about medium. I am really disappointed in this local bar. It's very drab inside, not clean and one of their waitstaff has to be one of the rudest people I have ever met. Our table was sticky, the waitress seemed so uninterested in taking our orders and then ignored us. I hear she is like this all the time - why? I've read the reviews and have lived near this place since 2000 so we went in last night to finally try it out. Is this a locals place? Of course it is. Is it full of repeat customers? Of course it is. The place is laid back and easy going where everyone just blends in. If you looking for pampered service with expertly timed service or believe you need to be hovered over by the staff....you will not be and I would recommend you go elsewhere because thats not the vibe. Plan on going in to just hang out, be chill and enjoy the place where you can just have a couple of drinks and some great burgers. Rachel was our server who directed us the burgers and highlighted the top items on the menu. She was friendly with a level of honesty and good sense of humor. She was one busy girl hustling from room to room and across the bar. This is hard work and she kept us taken care of. Job well done Rachel and we appreciated it. We'll be back for sure. read more

This seemed like a local hangout. It's a small dining room with a pool table. On the right is a beer takeout store. The bar is in the very back and it was crowded. There were a few TVs. They offered a large variety of ales. We tried the Shock Top pretzel and it really tasted like pretzel. We wanted to order food from the happy hour menu but had just missed it by 20 minutes. We ended up trying the Ale House Sampler which had four wings, four onion wings, two chicken tenders, two jalapeño cheese poppers and two mozzarella sticks $10.50. The wings and the chicken tenders were good. The sauce for the wings had quite a kick. The mozzarella sticks were quite dry. The onion rings and the poppers batter were too heavy. Next time we'll get wings only. The burger and the fries were quite good. Waitress was friendly. Will go back and try happy hour. read more

Great food & drinks! My daughter picked this place for lunch without reading the reviews, which was a good thing because if she had we would have missed out on one of the best meals we have had during our stay in PA. The place isn't much to look at, but don't let that scare you away. The food is first rate. Son in law has salmon a few times a week, and he said this was the best he has had in a long time. Husband had the wings and loved them, and there were enough in the order for him to share them. Prices were very good and the service was exactly right. Not too rushed and there when you needed refills or anything else. Which was pretty amazing since the bartender was doing double duty as the waitress. Can't comment on the inside since we sat outside which was very pleasant and didn't even notice that we were located right off the parking lot. Epic beer selection, and the wine was also very good. This is not "fine dining" but it doesn't pretend to be. It's pub food done extremely well and delicious. We highly recommend this place if you're looking for good pub food. read more

Just left after waiting for 20 minutes after putting our menus down and having a server pass us 4 times without even asking us if we needed anything. She had the most miserable puss on her face too and acted like we were bothering her when we asked for the check. There were 2 other people at another table who were totally ignored the entire time as well. I guess this place only caters to the regular crowd and couldnt give a shit about gaining new customers. The service is awful. I went with a group of 7 people on a Saturday night. The place wasn't crowded at all. It takes a long time for anyone to come take your order. The food was OK, typical bar food. hmmmm where do I begin..... well if they have "best burger" award it must have been voted that back in the '70s around the time the place was last cleaned. They didnt take our resturant.com certificate but offered to comp us $10 for the inconvenience. We visited this resturant 8 years ago and since we had the certificate we were trying to remember why we never went back... well there was certain reason. My engine 53 burger (ordered medium) blackened w blue cheese, was completely tasteless and some were around well well... my hubby's cheddar and bacon burger (also ordered medium) was completely the wrong burger and when we sent it back they merely took off the onion ring and sent it back out, completely overlooking the fact that perhaps we would notice that the burger has BBQ sauce he didnt want. They were kind enough to make up for it by removing our burgers from the bill which left us paying for chicken fingers that were standard bar fare and WAY overpriced onion rings (8 rings for $5.99). All in all the rings and fingers were decent so my 10yo was happy but we left remembering why the last time we were there he was two! oh i forgot... the kids speghetti and meatballs... my 8yo daughter loved the meatball (she is not very discerning) and we had a hard time finding the noodles in the over abudance of sauce... but for $3.79 was a good value since she ate it, but that is about all I can say about that! My girlfriend and I went on a Wednesday evening so she could enjoy "all you can eat Crabs" 19.99. I went home with a VERY happy woman. The server was attentive and kept the crabs coming withOUT wait. I had chicken parmagian which was very tasty. We are going to return to try "two meals and two drinks for $20 on Tuesdays, and the rack and a half of ribs 17.99 on Thursdays.
