Since Sarah T.'s review said nothing about Pierre's services as a hair stylist, I thought I would write a review since he has been styling my hair for 28 years. I have very curly hair and Pierre cuts it perfectly. He adjusts the cut based on things like the time of year. (For example, my hair is straighter in the winter so he cuts it to maximize the curly look.) I moved to DC in 1984 and tried several other stylists before I found Pierre. He immediately got rid of the "football helmet" I was sporting! I was thrilled and have continued to be so over the years. When I moved to NYC for a couple of years, I flew back to DC so Pierre could cut my hair. He also styled my hair for my wedding. When Pierre moved overseas (temporarily), I was devastated. I tried a couple of Georgetown salons that were highly recommended, but came away disappointed and with the "football helmet" look again. When Pierre decided to move back here, I was SO happy. As the years have gone by, I now can also review his ability to color hair. He assesses my hair color every time and creates the proper formula to restore its color and highlights. (NO STANDARD FORMULA - He creates the formula based on what he sees in your hair as it is on the day he is coloring it.) He also fixes hair damaged by perms and what not and unscrews what other colorists (or you and Ms. Clairol) have screwed up, If you go to him for damaged hair or a big color job, be sure to discuss price before you get into the chair to avoid surprises. I think his prices are reasonable and in line with other high quality salons. As to Sarah T's review, I can only say that, over the years, I have never heard a racist remark or heard a racist joke from Pierre, so I have no idea what she is talking about. Also, I have never seen a television in his salon EVER. He used to play classical music or jazz in the salon, and I have never heard him play it loud. (He was playing opera today at a very low volume.) He has always been extremely courteous to me and to my husband (who has also had Pierre cut his hair). I will say this - it is one thing for a hair salon owner to have an individual doing mani-pedis in his hair salon, and entirely another to have a solo stylist cutting hair in the middle of a nail salon (with 4 pedi stations and multiple mani stations as in this case). I don't think these two businesses are particularly complementary, and the salon's atmosphere has changed along with Pierre's business model. Having said that, Pierre could be cutting and coloring hair in an outhouse and I would still be going to him with pleasure. My personal concern is that he will decide "to hell with all this" and move to Puerto Rico and I'll be back to "helmet hair" and a date with Ms. Clairol. read more

Just recently visited Attia Salon again. Very strange to see the below review, so I decided to write my own. Pierre is a true talent...a luxury, the man knows what he's doing. I first visited the salon after hearing local television personalities use his services. All I know is that people in the public eye MUST look good, so I tried. And he's worth it! Avoid. like. the. plague. This is not a review of Pierre's services as a hair stylist. I get my nails done at Vicky's, which now shares the salon space with His Royal Highness. It is a most unpleasant environment when he is present. This man is terrible. He is racist, has a taste for younger women which he announces loudly, makes inappropriate jokes, is disrespectful of the nail salon employees AND clients, watches soap operas on full volume, speaks loudly on the phone when he has no customers (he rarely does, but there are always people getting their nails done). I can't believe he's still in business but on principle you shouldn't give this man your money. Oh, and he just started a pretty vitriolic diatribe against me when I asked him to turn the telenovela down. Amazing. read more

I was traveling, had some down time, and my hair style was badly in need of some new thoughts. I was staying nearby, so went to yelp for advice. The reviews intrigued me because they were so different, the location was perfect for where I was staying, and I was feeling bold - so I took a chance. First note - the name has changed - it is now Pierre Richard's Hair Studio. I walked in and Pierre was at lunch. A quick phone call was made and he returned immediately. I was then treated to an amazing experience - and walked out with the best haircut / style I have had in years! The experience report: Pierre educated me about my hair and scalp. He talked to me about my lifestyle, and took my complete lack of patience for styling my hair in the morning into consideration. (I am a up early, run with the dog, shower and bolt out to work type person). He then proceeded to demonstrate his artistic abilities on my hair. The cut / style report: my husband was not aware I was even considering a complete change. I got home and immediately faced shock (it was a drastic change), followed rapidly by a "wow - that looks really good on you". I have subsequently gotten more unsolicited compliments on my hair than ever before in my life. As far as upkeep and ease of management for me - it is outstanding, and I could not be happier. Many people have asked me who cut my hair so they could go, unfortunately Washington DC is a pretty far trip from Pittsburgh - but I am seriously considering repeat trips just to keep getting my hair done by Pierre. And final note - I have no idea who Sarah T. was talking about - as it was not the man I met. read more

Pierre is an artist -- he really is. He is a wonderful stylist and always manages to cut my hair in a way that is most flattering to me. As for color, there's no one better. He is an expert at repairing bad color jobs and always manages to blend the color to make it look natural. I even brought my daughter to see him -- she had ruined her hair with Sun-In, and he corrected the color so that it looked natural and blended with her new growth so she never had to color it again. I haven't seen Pierre in a few months as two of my dogs died unfortunately and I was not in the mood for really anything. But thank goodness I went the other day as I feel and look so much better. I have been going to Pierre for I think 17 years. When I first went to him, I came with fried blonde hair. It took some time to repair all the damage, but Pierre made my hair look natural and wonderful. I now take my daughter to him for haircuts. She is only 7 but I told her when she is old enough, she can for sure have Pierre color her hair. She wants purple but that all may change. My only hope is that Pierre does not retire, as I have no idea what I will do as he is the only hair color artist that I trust! read more

I was visiting my husband who stays in DC at least two nights a week and was badly in need of hair repair and a cut, so I called Pierre's number and discovered that he had moved even closer temporarily in a salon called Designo. I had grown out my gray stripe in front about three years ago and had loved for a while but was having an increasingly ambivalent relationship with my increasingly gray hair that is also fine, curly, and was becoming quite frizzy despite efforts to control it. So, I broke down and had it colored, which was a disaster!. Brassy which toner wouldn't fix. Pierre fixed it quickly with pigments and no harsh chemicals and gave it shine I hadn't had in ages and subtle light-catching touches. A woman who had seen it the day before was amazed it looked so healthy overnight. And a terrific haircut! My husband said it is the best haircut I have had in really long time or maybe ever as I have bounced around various salons in Richmond, VA, including three with stylists ostensibly expert in cutting curly hair but results have been disastrous to mediocre. (One damaged it so badly I finally had to get it all cut off really short to at least get rid of most of it.) Frustrating and not cheap. He knows how to cut curly hair even as his technique is different, and I confess I was getting nervous at first. He nearly completely snipped off the wiry hair just in front of my ears because he said I didn't need it anyway, which turned out to be so true! He told me that my hair curled differently on different sides of my head so he worked with that. I also very much appreciated that he didn't push pricey products, which nearly every salon does and many haven't worked for my hair in the end. I have been suckered into many of those and often end up giving them away or tossing. He used a clear gel on my hair and told me just to go buy it at Sally's Beauty. Perfect! I plan on figuring out travel to DC to visit Pierre again. He told me it may take a while for the pigments to infiltrate the gray for maximum sun-catching effect, and plus, I would like to have another haircut from him. He listens but tells you what he thinks, so I trusted him. Be aware of a couple of things. His prices are different than the salon he is working in so ask when you call (his phone number is the same) and because he is working independently in the salon he only takes cash or checks. I didn't have a checkbook, so he trusted me to mail it to him when I got home! Sarah T's review makes no sense at all to me either as this man was really pleasant, uber accommodating, and talented man who was very respectful to me, other employees, and people who called when I was in chair. For my part, I know of few blatant racists switching back and forth between English and Spanish as he did with the woman who shampooed my hair and always with a smile. My generous take is that Sarah T. perhaps posted her review for the wrong salon, which I have noticed occurs occasionally when people are reviewing products and is clear have posted to wrong site. Or else she is delusional and likely lives a lonely life is she hated this extremely pleasant man. I advise ignoring this vicious attack. read more

Pierre is a genius with color! He is the only person I will let touch my hair. Visit him and you won't be disappointed! His technique will leave you with beautifully natural color, your friends will be shocked to hear you've done anything to it. Not to mention he always gives me the most flattering style- I always feel my best after I see Pierre! read more
