We definitely didn't bring any with us, but decided we wanted to go to the snow when we got here. We didn't want to drop a ton of money on clothes, so we were planning on searching thrift stores for snow pants, gloves, and boots. Luckily, I found this shop on Yelp before we started our hunt, so we made it the first stop. They had everything we needed and more, and almost everything we got was in nearly new condition for SUPER cheap. I found Columbia snow pants (basically brand new), Columbia boots (a little beat up but got the job done), and good snow gloves. My boyfriend found brand new snow pants, really nice & new snow boots, and brand new gloves. Total for everything was $204! We still can't believe it, and are so grateful. Everything kept us totally warm during a couple days on Cypress Mountain. If we lived closer, we'd definitely be shopping here more often!

I came in on a college budget hoping to pick up a used soccer ball or tennis racket to help emerge from winter hibernation and be outdoors, but the selection and prices made it so I got both! Consigners set the initial prices and get 50% back, so it's luck of the draw as to whether you'll get a good deal. Got a Dunlop racket ($33) that works like a charm, and the used tennis balls ($0.50/ea) are really worth it if you don't mind a Sharpie'd "T" on it. The soccer ball, I made the mistake of buying a lower-end Tektonik ($17) one. BIG mistake. After one use, it began cracking apart massively -- likely an issue of the ball being stale and/or overinflated. Although this is mostly the fault of a bad consigner, I was disappointed that I couldn't get anything back for it after I called and warned them about the other two they had on their shelf. Part of me is kicking myself that I didn't go for the nicer, likely better-maintained $22 Puma ball on the rack -- ended up dishing out another $25 for a new one at SoccerWest anyways. But I'm wondering whether I should sell my new ball to them when I myself have to head out of town, or whether I should go through the effort of selling it on Craigslist/Marketplace to give someone (and probably myself) peace of mind. TLDR: Know what items to buy used, and which are buyer-beware. Quality control can only go so far.

Plogging is jogging with picking up litters. We gathered quite a lot of litters and enjoyed walking with strangers. After we came back to the store, they served us nice refreshments (from neighbor bakery and coffee roasters!) and raffle for their jacket. $50 shopping voucher for all participants. What a generous gift! Repeating of pick and walk made me tired honestly but I'm glad they organized such wonderful event. I want to try next time too :)

I'm a sucker for people who are good to my dog. =)

I started a hiking group this summer and I found myself in need of proper hiking pants. This weekend I had some time to go shopping and thinking they must have a good selection because they have a large store, I went to Mountain Equipment Company (MEC). Big mistake. Incompetent staff and pants made for women with no butts. Disgusted, I went to Valhalla Pure, where I should have gone to in the first place. Moments after I walked in Valhalla Pure, an employee asked if I needed help, which I appreciated, as I desperately needed help, and it had taken a long time to find an employee at MEC (who turned out to know nothing about women's hiking pants). I explained to the employee what I was looking for (hiking pants that FIT me), and he was SO HELPFUL. He showed me a couple of different styles and brands, explained their features, and chose sizes that would fit me based on my body shape (he was absolutely spot on about the sizes). The result was that I ended up walking out of there with two pairs of pants. Next time I need something, I am definitely going straight to Valhalla Pure.

The store sells a lot of your favorite Canucks players jerseys, shirts, and other fan essential merchandise. But unfortunately, they were WAYYYY out of my price range. For example, for a pair of Nike Canucks shorts were being sold for $70 CAD!!! And as far as their hat selection goes, I felt like it was just OKAYYYY. I wish they offered more variety as far as their hats goes. The store itself has two levels. On the ground level, they sell kids and other Canucks knick knacks. The second floor is where the jerseys and clothes for men and women are. In the end, I only came out of the team store with one Canucks shirt. And lastly, a huge shout out to their staff that works at the store. They were all mad friendly! 3.5 stars rounded to 4.

This particular MEC is very shed like. A big box but not a big box because it's not Walmart? Why kid yourself, it is still dehumanizing how you know you are a chicken in a chicken coop. Walking in narrow robotic aisles. Meh to the crappy interior and ugly exterior. Ok. But what about the goods? Was looking for a few items where the online status shows availability but not on display and no salesperson around to ask or their automatic response is "whatever you see is what we've got". A statement that is more of laziness than true. ...Then why does your online presence say otherwise. So many items are either not priced or mispriced...it is frustrating. Again no salesperson to be found. Only cheerful ones are those going on a break or leaving for work. Then they will answer "whatever you see is what we've got". Terrible experience.
