5 stars for the Decathlon shopping experience. An European brand that started in France over four decades ago, I am surprised it took this long to arrive in Vancouver. Decathlon brand sells in over 60 countries, and has at least 1500+ stores worldwide but as of now, we only have this single Metrotown location in all of BC. (More Canadian locations in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, etc)
I think Decathlon is a good ethical brand for its sustainability efforts and for upholding the core value to promote healthy living by ensuring sport activities is affordable and accessible to everyone globally.
They are able to offer quality sport items at affordable prices because they have their own private labels and in house brand. In addition to sports equipments, they also have their own line of sportswear clothes and shoes for adults and kids.
I find it quite easy to shop here with their wide array of sporting goods. Also, most items here are likely available with a demo equipment for you to try. It's a convenient shopping stop when you can look for camping gear, tennis racket, sleeping bag, tank top, indoor soccer shoes, or kid's gifts and a swimming cap all in one location.
The store practices a hands on approach with a welcoming vibe that encourage customers to "try" so you may find customers sitting in camping tent to test out its sizes or laying in sleeping bag; kids riding around on their demo bikes and teens playing badminton at the Decathlon badminton set on display.
I applaud Decathlon for their customer oriented attitude. I think they foster a better shopping experience for sports equipment than other stores such as SportsChek, with its spacious store layout & friendly staff culture.
IMO, Decathlon offers exceptional convenience when you want to shop for different sports at entry level. And it also offers excellent value on sporting items like an outdoor badminton play set, UV protection caps, plastic pickleballs where you know you are paying for quality products at reasonable prices and the affordability is not due to child labour or cheaper materials. The irony could be that Decathlon is actually "bigger" than Nike and Adidas both combined in India but customers may prefer to buy a Nike brand thinking it's a bigger brand for its perceived name. Of course, it's all personal preference and consumer choice so I simply recommend Decathlon as a great place to experiment, to explore and to experience various sports without pressures to make a purchase. And when you do make a purchase, definitely sign up with your email address for a free membership to easily track transaction history and each purchase is backed by a solid return policy on defective products to show their quality guarantee.
Thus, 5 stars for the Decathlon shopping experience :) read more
