What a rip off. Do NOT go here. Way too much money and they are charging more for their services than an actual Mercedes Benz dealer. Guy named Bruce who has a walking machine set up in his office, acts full of himself and frankly just odd, tries to upsell me on a number of services for my car that my car doesn't need, while he's perched behind his computer. Car is a Mercedes, I own several and I know what the costs are for services. He sends me a beefed up bogus estimate for a transmission service, saying the car needs new spark plugs, must be in the shop several days, although the guy NEVER even looked at my car. When I tell him that I don't want this or that based on the stupid high costs he quoted me, he becomes indignant and tells me he won't do anything with the car. Guy is an oddball, don't know if he is one of the owners or what he is, but if you have a nice well maintained European car, you don't want to go to this oddball place. read more

Rarely do I leave a negative review but I will make an exception for Atlantic Motorcar Center. My wife's 2013 VW Golf TDI needed a clutch and our normal shop was booked eight weeks out so she tried Atlantic... $5,000+ later the clutch is like new. My wife has owned VW's for decades and she knows the difference between good and poor service. Attention to detail doesn't mean you focused on "thank you" brownies. It means getting things right. -Sevice light was not reset. -Tire inflation light was not reset. -Left emergency cable wasn't attached. Sevice light was reset a few weeks later by Atlantic. I resent the tire light and Bruce was seemingly not interested in the emergency brake cable. "We didn't work on that system." I tried to explain that the 1st time I drove the car, albeit a month after the clutch repair, I immediately knew the emergency brake wasn't right. VIP of Bath found the left emergency cable was disconnected and reconnected the cable at no charge. No big deal right? Wrong... We live on a stupidly steep driveway and got lucky this time. When a customer says... "Hey this was working when I brought in the car and now it doesn't" The response should be... "We didn't work on that but by all means let's take a look ASAP." My guess is when they took a looked at the rear brakes, which they sent us pictures of, the cable was somehow disconnected. Who knows... The odds it just fell off are exceedingly low. Finding a place to take your car, that you trust and has competitive pricing is a challenge, especially as of late. My suggestion is to start the process by making sure the owner of the shop is from Maine. Please no more texts. No more emails... We have had enough of Atlanta Motorcar for the rest of our lives. PS That was the most expensive brownie of my life... It was delicious . read more

I went in on a warranty that they assured me they worked with over the phone, although they didn't actually follow through with it when I drove an hour and a half to get there. On top of this, the technician did a $380 vehicle inspection without my consent, they contacted me and told me they would not work with the warranty, so I declined service. On arrival, they charged me for this inspection. Overall a very unprofessional experience. read more

Another new and rewarding experience with Atlantic Motorcar. 10 days ago I was driving my wife home from a Clinic visit and was troubled by poor air conditioning within my vehicle. My wife experienced an abrupt neurological experience which was seemingly precipitated by riding in a "warm" car. She was hospitalized immediately thereafter. I called Bruce to see if my date for air conditioner repair could be made sooner. He said I'll call you right back. 3 days later my car was picked up at my home and returned with normal air conditioner function. Left mirror safety sensor (little triangle) went bad over 1.5 years ago. Said it could not be fixed as the part needs to fix it was unavailable nationwide. Never heard back do I called every 3 months. Said the part was still not available and that I should stop calling. Brought it in for regular service and they said the part had shown up but would cost $2000 to fix it. I said never mind. Just go the service. I got the car back (they did not replace the part) but the sensor worked!!! Obviously their analysis was totally wrong and they had clearly just pushed a wire back into place or simply reset the computer which was all it ever needed. Plus got a second opinion from another mechanic who quoted all repairs that Atlantic wanted to do for 25-50% less. Check all reviews, they mostly all mention inflated and outrageous repair work pricing which took me a few years to figure out. Won't be going back. read more

I had a pretty serious problem with my Tesla and, at first, appreciated that his shop could see me that day. They explained that they could assess the damage and provide an inspection report which insurance needs. (Most don't charge for this.) After they did this, they then informed me that the cost for the report was nearly $200 which I paid out of obligation. They did not offer to deduct that if they ended up repairing the car. Still, I did tell my insurance company about Atlantic because my insurance company did not have them as a certified Tesla shop. Then I learned from my insurance company that Atlantic refused to do the work. I do not feel good about the business ethic of this shop. read more

Caveat emptor. Car blew its clutch on the way to Maine. I had no idea where to take it. It was fixed there but it cost at least two thousand dollars more than it should have (per multiple reputable mechanics. Maybe they take good care of locals but I would avoid that place at all costs. read more

Living in the Augusta area there are no good options to service my Range River Evoque, so when the instrument panel lit up with every major and minor warning light flashing I thought the problem might be catastrophic. After searching for options, I found Atlantic and spoke with Eric who assured me the car was repairable. As the diagnosis and repair were taking place Eric was keeping me updated with text messages and recommendations. The level of communication through the process was outstanding. Atlantic got the replacement parts from Land Rover promptly and repairs were completed as scheduled. The car is a pleasure to drive again. Eric and the team at Atlantic are a pleasure to work. I have to complain that Atlantic Motorcar is way too expensive. They will not give you an hourly rate and do things you don't request then charge you for it. I paid 159$ to get my check engine light notice stopped while this was also included in the charge for the brake sensor exam. In other words they hit me twice for same issue. They also try to get you to do unnecessary work, replace things that don't need it, and look for anything to do. I've had many a foreign car and been around a lot of garages. They are slick. Pleasant people and quick service but way more expensive than other shops. read more

AMC is expensive and the staff there are argumentative and condescending. I do not recommend them. I have had some work done at AMC on my 2014 Audi Q5 that I don't drive much (in nearly a decade it has traveled only 55k miles). Recently, I set up an appointment for an oil and filter change. When I arrived, I was told that the car was due for its 55,000 service. When I asked what that entailed, I was told that the air and cabin filters would be replaced, in addition to the oil and filter change and a tire rotation. The cost: in excess of $600. I declined that service and was told: "It will be more expensive if you wait." I declined it again and said I was just there for an oil change. So, the guy at the desk recalculated the charge and said the bill would now by over $300. "For an oil and filter change?, I exclaimed. "Well, it's more than an oil change," was the response. "I just want an oil change," I said. "I could get one at Jiffy Lube for seventy bucks!" The response: "Then that's what you should do." So, I collected my key and left. I subsequently traded a few text messages with Bruce, the owner, who essentially defended these exorbitant prices and said nothing about the attitude of his staff. He even went to the trouble of contacting an area Audi dealership so that he could text me later to say the 55k service there would cost me $200 more. Fine, but I wasn't interested in the 55k service. I just wanted an oil change. In the end, I got the oil and filter change I wanted for $92.72 (synthetic oil, appropriate filter, and labor), bought the air filter myself for $35.99 and the cabin filter for another $35.99, and installed both in about 20 minutes. Then, I got the tires rotated for free at the place where I bought them (they even checked the alignment). Total cost for all this, including tax: $173.78 plus about an hour of my time. A far cry from the more than $600 quoted at AMC (and the scary prices at other places researched and reported back by Bruce). While there are certainly going to be instances where I will need certified technicians to work on my Audi, an oil change, tire rotation, and two filter replacements wasn't one of them. And when I do need more sophisticated service in the future, I will not be taking my car to AMC. I'd rather go back to the dealer, pay a little bit more, and get the work I request along with quality and respectful customer service. read more

A light came on the dashboard about anti slip on Saturday. The light was off Monday morning so I started to drive. Less than a mile from home, the car was driving badly. (Not me, the car). I pulled into an empty parking lot and called Atlantic Motorcar. After listening to me, Javier suggested that it be towed in. Yes! They had a loaner for me. Lifesaver. Javier warned it it might be a couple of days because a winter storm was expected for the next day, but no problem having the loaner as long as it took. Later that day, I had a text with pictures of what was wrong. Bucket list! Javier kept me well informed about progress and cost estimate. Having the Jetta loaner (which was a dream to drive) until my Lexus was ready ... all part of the excellent service! read more

Very disappointed with service. Purchased a Volvo with 60,000 miles on it in May 2023..(4 months ago). Brought it in for an oil change today and received a report the vehicle needs: suspension control arm, brake pads and rear rotors, four new tires, alignment to free up suspension.and ball joints... for a cost of $3600. They assured us at time of purchase that the car had been inspected by their service department. Apparently not. Spoke to owner and he said he did above what the state recommends for used cars. All smoke and mirrors behind a pretty facade. The state of Maine should follow CT and have a lemon law to protect the consumer. read more

I was quoted a price to do a diagnostic on my XC90 Volvo. I was charged a hundred dollars more than I expected with no diagnostics. Claimed they could not read the tool. They charged me $221.13 with no results! Plus he presented me with a quote for work I did not need. Not happy. I only went there because I received a post card claiming they could do the diagnostics that I did not have to take it back to the dealer. Long story short, the dealer was able to tell me what was wrong and fixed the car. It was a CEM that was bad. Not happy with this service, if they could not get a reading why did they go over my car with a fine tooth comb, hoping I would obligate to thousands of dollars worth of repairs. read more

I just moved to the area a month ago (January), and the cold did a number on my battery. After stalling, the battery got bad enough I needed to deal with it. I called Altantic Motorcar and they were wonderful. They made an appointment for me within three days of my call and when I took the car (limping) in, they performed an analysis of all of the systems. These folks spotted (and fixed) all of the things that I had known was wrong with that car -- and, more important, included nothing that was not wrong. Took my 2013 Mini cooper to get the hood cable and latch replaced as well as the heater motor repaired, they were very quick with their turn around time even though I let them know I was in no hurry. They were kind, quick with the diagnostics, there were things that needed repair, but I chose only to have the repairs completed that would ensure safety for me and others. There was no pressure, they are very informative, and I will defiantly return for future repairs. Also, after service is remarkable, not only does the owner follow up but a very sweet office lady does as well. I've taken my 2006 A4 to Atlantic Motorcar a few times over the past six months or so. The first time I had to be towed in. I'd called every shop within an hour drive and they were all backed up for weeks with no loaners. Atlantic Motorcar managed some wizardry and came up with a loaner for me, were communicative and transparent about the fact that it'd take them a week to get to with all of their other jobs, and kept me updated throughout the process. Most recently my coolant light started coming on when I turned on my car, but would almost immediately turn off when I started driving. I figured it was no big deal and I'd stop by Atlantic Motorcar on my way to work to top off my coolant (go ahead, laugh at me.) The team at Atlantic Motorcar took the time to educate me about my car (coolant's a closed system, shouldn't just get low), took me into the shop so they could show me what was happening with my car, set me up with a last minute loaner (AGAIN!) and got my car taken care of in a day and a half. Very nice mechanic put air in my tires. However car snob manager told me the tires - which are only three months old - are "second tier, no name" tires. Dude: 1). It's a Hyndai. I don't care. 2). I bought them two days after my boyfriend passed away. I couldn't afford them, but I needed them to drive the 5 hours to his funeral. If Fred Flintstone himself had come along with some carved out round rocks, I would have purchased those, as long as he took Mastercard. read more

They have a alot of computer glitches and thats scary. keep your receipts. I entered my sensitive information onto their loan application and they lost in in the abyss. It took 4 trys to get all my info, Very disorganized. No problem solving skills and dont take responsibility for their mistakes either. Plus they dont follow child support laws. theyve been taking my husbands money for child support for our kids and they have been holding the money and not turning it in as law requires, within 7 days! read more

I've used Atlantic Motorcar for years and spent thousands of dollars there and I've finally said NO MORE! The pluses of the business are that it's clean, modern, and the associates are very knowledgeable. The prices for service are also very reasonable for foreign cars. But here's why I will never ever bring my car there again: his name is Bruce. Bruce runs the business and whenever I've had to deal with him I always feel like throttling someone afterwards. Anyone else and I'm fine, all of the other employees are very courteous and pleasant to deal with. I don't know where Bruce learned his people skills but you'd think you'd be a little kinder to people who call you wanting to spend significant chunks or money at your business. He's very condescending and makes me feel stupid every time I talk to him. This last interaction I had with him left me speechless. Rude doesn't even begin to describe it. Maybe he only acts this way towards women, I kinda get that vibe from him. Or maybe he's just a jerk to everybody. I also think I've been talked into unnecessary service on my Volvo. Every time I'd get an inspection there I'd walk away with a long list of stuff that needs to be fixed. When I go to the local oil change place, my car passes. Funny how that worked out. If you need service on your Volvo, spend the extra couple of bucks and take it to the dealer, not to Atlantic Motorcar. It's worth it if you want to have your car serviced and keep your self-esteem intact. read more

Once again, my repair needs were fulfilled completely at Atlantic Motor Car. This time, I had my car detailed, and I'm in heaven! Every time I drive, I find another out-of-the-way place that has been cleaned and is gleaming; it's the gift that keeps on giving! A friend I was driving to the grocery store just marvelled at the interior and concluded, "It's like a brand-new car!" The exterior is well-done also, with tires washed and polished - who does that? It really is like a new car, even though it's nine years old. Ask for detailing at your next appointment, and you'll be very pleased with both the mechanical work and the detailing. read more

I don't write ratings much, but Atlantic Motorcar saved us this morning. Our Audi Quattro A6 wagon had its battery die. When I called Falmouth, I got forwarded to a voicemail and when the woman called back she didn't seem to even know what an Audi Quattro was. Frank, at American said he knew the battery and thought he had one more (he'd put one in a Quattro 2010 last week) but he went out to the stock room and checked before he was off the line. I drove up and had the battery in in less than an hour and a half (and they didn't screw up the radio as had happened the previous time I had the battery put in - some special code needed). Great job and very friendly people with everyone asking if I was being assisted. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

I guess there are not any no star reviews. Too bad. I called Atlantic concerning a problem with my BMW. I was told that the first diagnostic would cost $129. That's OK. I was then told that the second diagnostic (if required, ha ha) would be $80 or $100 or maybe more. Odd as I would have spent $129 for essentially nothing. It gets worse. I was told at the same time that they would do nothing for me if I did not submit to an initial inspection which would cost $120 as they knew nothing about my car.. Let's see, the total likely cost to (maybe) ID the problem could be $339 before they started to fix the it. Wow !! Anybody want to buy a bridge ? . read more

Written by my husband, Tom ~ I have taken my cars to Atlantic Motorcar for the past 11 years - Toyota 4Runner, BMW 528i, and Nissan 240sx. I have never been disappointed, and they have never recommended an unnecessary repair. In fact, Bruce, the owner, has talked me out of several preventive repairs that I thought were necessary. For example, my BMW is well-known for having a weak, mostly plastic cooling system that usually has to be completely replaced preventively after 100,000 miles. With Bruce's help, we nursed the original cooling system all the way to 174,000 miles before replacement. Atlantic Motorcar also includes without extra charge a national warranty on its repairs from Bosch for 24,000 miles/24 months. They have honored this warranty several times on the BMW, which is well-known for having gaskets and seals that tend to have short lives. Their facilities are spic and span clean, and loaner cars are usually available. The staff are friendly, helpful and have always taken me back into the repair part to show me the parts in the car that have failed and need replacement before they begin repairs. Atlantic Motorcar also has a small used car lot full of reasonably priced European and Japanese autos. In fact, after I recently sold the BMW, I purchased a used Volvo wagon from this lot and have enjoyed it immensely for the past month. If you are tired of having to drive to Portland dealers to have your car repaired, or would like to have someone explain in plain English what repairs your car needs , by all means consider going to Atlantic Motorcar. read more

Our car was under warranty and Atlantic motors service indicated several items that needed repair. They were not sure which items would be covered by the warranty and went ahead with the work even though we specifically gave instructions that no work should be done until we knew which items would be covered . It was their responsibility to confirm with us which items were to be repaired BEFORE any work was done. read more

A friend of mind recently purchased through Atlantic Motorcar Center and raved about their salesman Dave. So when we were ready to shop for a vehicle, I decided to try them first. Dave (and Ashley) were nice, friendly and sincere people. I was able to drive a variety of vehicles within my price range to get a feel of the difference in handling. Once I found the right car, I was offered a fair price on the vehicle AND on my trade-in---they also secured me a low financing rate. The most pain-free car buying experience ever. Don't Go Here. They can't be trusted. I'll never go there again. My wife and I had brought our cars there for a couple of years. These guys were expensive, but seemed to do good work. But then I noticed that when we brought our cars in for oil changes, with increasing frequency, other repairs needed to be made. The final straw was when my wife's car now needed new front tie rods. I asked if it could wait, and was told it could wait until the next oil change. When it was time for the oil change, she also needed an inspection. She was told the car wouldn't pass inspection unless the tie rods were fixed. My wife decided to take her car to another mechanic for the inspection. The mechanic inspected the car and it passed easily. Today, my wife brought her car in for another oil change to a new mechanic who specializes in her make of car. The mechanic looked over the car , the car was fine. My wife then mentioned her concern with the tie rods. The mechanic again found nothing wrong. That just started me thinking about how many other times we paid Atlantic to 'fix' problems with the car. Don't go there. read more

I called Atlantic before I brought my 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 to make sure they were familiar with the car - immediately they took a pretentious tone and asked if I had read their website. In fact, I had and there was no mention of servicing Jaguars. I was in a tough position because not many mechanics do ) they are 40 miles from my house). Bruce convinced me that he was familiar with the car. Sadly, I had to have it towed to him. I admit, these cars are tough, take a long time and can be expensive. Bruce was upset that I had work done by my local mechanic before bringing it to him and questioned if he wanted to get in the middle of it. Mind you, my local mechanic had just put new tires on it and suggested new bushings. It was idling high and my local guy admitted, that he was not familiar with the engine and that I should find a specialist. I had already found Atlantic and intended on bringing it to them for more advanced repairs and maintenance. The care was towed to them on a TH - it was over a week before they looked at it - at that time Bruce called with a 4K etiolate - no concerns - suggested a systematic approach. At this time, he stated that he had trouble finding some parts. I found one in question on ENAY in 5 minutes, shipped from New Hampshire... I am now his shop person. A week later, I get a call on TH stating he did not get to my job and that it would be early next week. The end of the week comes and he tells me that after $1600 in work - they found coolant leak - that they did not see before - because the car was not running - fair enough but this was a major leak that was not there when it was towed (I drove it for 1 week after buying it from Chicago via Memphis). This is where the shop really failed. I went to visit with Bruce and gal about next steps - in conversation he revealed that he worked on "one of these" a couple years back and some more over the years - a total of maybe 3 or 4. All of them ended with major engine repair. Again, fair enough but he lead me to believe he had much more experience that what was now revealed. In the end, I decided I could not afford what was next in line for the car. He suggested selling it as is for scrap or putting a ton of money into it by pulling the engine and rolling the dice. My gut feeling said it was time to pull the cord. Not on the car but on Atlantic. It didn't feel right. I called AAA to have it towed. When I meet he AAA driver their, Atlantic treated me like I was a virus. Mind you, I did not tell them I was bringing it anywhere else - but was putting it in storage. I had just paid them $1600 for repairs that are suspect - labor time listed as 5 hours - online forums suggest this job is 3 hours by mechanics familiar with the care - more for those that are not. They charged $120 for a vehicle assessment - which entails a road test - the car did not start, let alone drive... I had to find a shop guy that would help me put it into position for the tow. I am not upset with the cost of the repairs - though think they were inflated. I am upset with the time line, the inferiority complex Bruce displays and the customer service I received when I did not finish the job with them. Bruce knew I was there, having it towed, I just settled the $1600 bill and he did not have the courage to even come out to me me, shake my hand and say good luck. I can tell you this - I will not be bringing my Saab or Lexus their for a carpet cleaning. read more
