My wife and I love visiting Safety Harbor. There are so many great restaurant options and it's the best walking town in Pinellas County. Today, we stopped into Athens Restaurant and were surprised how expansive it was inside (in addition to a few tables outside for nice days). Many options on the menu. The House Veggie omelette comes with egg whites, but they kindly swapped them out for regular eggs. Delicious, large, and healthy fare. My wife had the "classic" (eggs and home fries). Everything cooked to perfection, served promptly but not rushed, and by a lovely waitress (Diann). Also, prices were very reasonable. We'll definitely be back! read more

Create Your Own Omelette- WOW. Best omelette I've had in a while. I'm a local and will 100% order from here again. Bacon, onion, tomato, Swiss. That cheese was EXPERTLY melted in the middle almost to a liquid. Yes. Bacon in the omelette was not chewy (thank you thank you thank you) . 1 Slice of French Toast... wow. Great value and sliced so it felt like you were getting more than one piece. We would be content with just that and a coffee. Fluffy and super fresh. Please never change that attention to detail. Cold Brew Iced Coffee- good, not over-iced! Be aware that with delivery you do not get cream or sugar, so you'll have to add your own or drink it black. I requested and they couldn't accommodate, which is totally fine. Still a great value. Another side note, would love if hash browns could come with some ketchup, but that's getting nit picky! Have to mention they did not forget my straw!! or silverware!!! ​My husband and I recently stayed in the Safety Harbor area getting to visit family whom live in the area. Our son and his wife had been wanting to try Athens Restaurant, so it was decided that we would do a takeout order and bring back to our Airbnb. At the time I had no idea I would be doing a Yelp review on this restaurant , and sadly did not take any photos of this most delicious food. Between four adults and two children there were no duplicate orders, various omelets all ordered with house fries and English muffins, pancakes with sausage and sausage with biscuits and gravy. Our grandsons had not eaten with such passion during our entire visit! Everything was delicious , including pancakes that could be held with two hands and were delicious even without syrup. Excellent Greek restaurant and diner in downtown Safety harbor. I sat at the counter area. Service was excellent. I had the Mediterranean omelette: 4 egg omelette with gyro, spinach, tomatoes, olives, pepperoncini, and feta with tzatziki sauce on the side and hash browns and toast. All were excellent, the omelette was a great portion size. I didn't have to wait but as I was leaving around 10am on a Sunday they started to get busy. One thing that I didn't care for off the bat: Christmas music!!! When the waitress acknowledged us after a few minutes, I gently said something to that effect. She looked at us and told us it's the radio station... When she came back to take our food order, she said how annoyed SHE is by the nonstop Santa songs, etc. We all had a good laugh and on we went. Queen Bee asked for the breakfast burrito, which is egg, sausage, peppers onion, tomato and cheddar. For $2 more you can have taters, fruit or grits too. I chose Italian omelet: three eggs with Italian sausage, peppers, onion, mutz...I chose home fries and rye toast, as omelets and other breakfast platters offer toast along with grits, taters or fruit. The taters can be either hash browns or home fries: as you choose. I asked for mine crisp with onions: NYC on a plate, Breakfast Division! Meantime, based on our waitress' conversations as she was hustling, I can say one thing. She (Judy) has a lot of regulars and has been slinging hash here for a good long while. Judy has a very friendly manner and just enough sass to remind me of a real diner like I used to enjoy back in my youthful NY decades. Both our breakfasts were quite generous in size and flavor. Her burrito was a huge parcel of meaty, cheesy, eggy gooeyness, all wrapped in a tomato tortilla! It reminded me of a cross section of a fire hose!! She put a big dent in it, which I find a lil shocking. My Queen Bee has a small appetite but that bugger was addictive apparently. My omelet was well prepared too. Tasty and well balanced rainbow of Italian flavor; a lil less flavorful than Acropol but still quite good. Home fries were kinda crisp and a nice crown of grilled onions atop. They needed a lil more flavoring to rival Acropol but that's what salt and pepper shakers can do. Good diner spuds have paprika in the mix too. At any rate: would we return here? I'd say yes, because it is a clean looking spot. It provided good food at a relatively reasonable price ($20.50 + tip), as well as a great, friendly and feisty waitress. We've noticed this spot several times walking around downtown Safety Harbor, but usually in the evening after they've closed. We finally made it in for breakfast this morning and had a casual breakfast. Happy we finally made it in! It was "seat yourself" both inside and out, but it was so gorgeous outside that all the outside tables were snagged so we sat inside at a booth. There's also tables and some limited counter seating. The menu is immense, for both breakfast and for lunch, with so many tasty sounding options. I kept it simple with the pancakes, topping them with chocolate chips & strawberries and getting a side of bacon. I also got a hot chocolate, which was honestly my favorite part as a lot of breakfast spots no longer seem to have that. My boyfriend got scrambled eggs with cheese, the home fries, bacon, and white toast. He really enjoyed the eggs, but felt the home fries were a little undercooked. You could tell it was a regular spot for quite a few people; many of the servers greeted guests by names & had great engagement with everyone. We stopped in for lunch on a Sunday around 12:30. We ordered the chicken kabob special, the spinach pie special and the chicken souvlaki special. Each on came with a huge portion of Greek salad. The salad was my favorite part and I would return just for that. There was a big heap of potato salad on top. The staff were busy but nice. It's located on a strip of shops and restaurants in Safety Harbor so you can walk around after lunch to explore or grab a coffee or ice cream. This place started with a four star review...but poor-or lack of--service reduced it to 2 stars, Which in my opinion is don't bother, there are plenty of other good restaurants to choose from. Sat down outside with a friend with about 90 minutes for a leisurely lunch. Server seemed friendly and helpful. Discussed menu options and her recommendations and went with those. Drinks brought out and....,nothing for ?20 minutes until our food was brought out. Shortly after, my knife fell on the floor and my ice tea needed a refill--and nothing again for at least another twenty minutes. No exaggeration on the time. We were the only ones outside, so apparently we were forgotten. She never wants checked on us to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything at all. When she finally did come out, she brought the check and asked if we wanted refills for our drinks. We said yes, and I asked for a new nice, which at that point was a moot point. Was was basically using my fork to try to cut my food... when she returned with a knife, she forgot to bring our refills. She didn't return for another 10 minutes to collect the credit card to go with the check. After another request, she came out with our drinks now to go, since the restaurant was technically closed ( after 2:30). My meal:spanakopita on Greek salad. Salad decent, not overly fresh, served with potato salad and beets which apparently is the norm in Florida.Spanakopita warm , not hot, with the aforementioned problem of lacking clean knife to cut. Great small long-standing restaurant near the spa. Serves lunch or breakfast for breakfast. I enjoyed their excellent, fresh well-made gyro and a piece of warmed baklava. Yeap 2 stars! Located in Safety Harbor, alongside a strip mall. I loved the diner look, very cozy and homey feeling inside the restaurant. Sadly, there weren't anybody there, which is never a good sign especially during lunch hour. They specialized in some Greek entrees like gyros and Greek salad but that was about it. Most of the items in the menu were sandwiches and breakfast entrees. Wish they had more Greek inspired dishes. Upon seating, we ordered the gyro with the side of fries. Did I mention besides us, there was only one customer there. The service was super slow, no one came to refill our drinks or check on us until we were ready to pay the bill. I saw group of wait staff sitting in the back conversing while I was trying to get someone's attention for more water. I wasn't very pleased. Back to the food, the gyro with fries came and it was way too hot. We had to wait till our food cooled down before we could have a bite. No worries, moving on. The gyro meat was great, but the tzatziki sauce was horrible, runny yogurt sauce. There were cubes of cucumber and onion sprinkled atop the sandwich.
