Atera Spas, Stay AWAY! From the beginning this swim spa has been a nightmare. After re-plumbing, new controllers, new pumps... The idiots at this company used spa wiring which are much smaller lengths than a swim spa. Gets better, they used spa wiring and spliced the wires together to make the length required for this swim spa. By the way the insulation used to splice, nothing... even better the wires were on the ground so when water got in the circuit breakers would trip... Thanks for nothing! Vinny read more

Horrible dishonest company. Lousy product. Incompetent support. Rude. This spa purchase has been nothing short of a nightmare for my newly constructed house in Utah. I set up spa per their instructions with "Josh" walking me through process via phone call. Water did not appear to be circulating properly but Josh told me to let it run overnight. Awoke next day to find spa had stopped working, was electrically dead, and leaking. I ended up slipping on ice from the leak and fell breaking my wrist. Company claimed it was a wiring issue and would not honor the warranty. The company owner "Chuck" claimed the wiring had "fried" the components Had 3 different spa technicians (all sent by Atera) and 2 different electricians say otherwise. The company owner got into a heated argument with all of them. Apparently nothing is ever his fault. * (It should be noted that Chuck and Josh are not licensed electricians or spa technicians.) Atera had me pay to replace numerous electrical pumps and a new control unit.....which didn't fix the problems. I kept getting erroneous repair instructions from Josh and Chuck. Subsequently had some of the pipe manifolds break. Company said they'd warranty that but then renegged at the last minute sticking me with the bill. After going back and forth with Atera to honor their warranty and stand behind their product, they quit returning my phone calls and emails. The local service company they sent (who I paid for) said they had never seen anything as horrible like this company Per the local service company's suggestion, I had the control unit, heater, and pumps replaced with a different reputable brands.....not the junk Atera uses Now the tub finally works.....because it is essentially rebuilt. All in all, I ended up spending an extra $5000 to get this piece of crap running. Since Atera had me doing my own maintenance I can tell you this tub is poorly designed and built. Hey Chuck, before I sue you and report you to the Better Business Bureau, I'll give you one last chance to make this right. read more

I bought a spa direct from this company, and after many delays, it was delivered. Two years later, it broke down, and I received no service, no support, and the Area service guy refused to come and fix it. It has been down for 3 years, and I threw away $18,000 on this P.O.S. Worst company ever. Never took responsibility for problems with my spa. Blamed me for issues then stopped returning my calls. I know they sold the business. Chiller stopped working long ago. We stopped using the spa for 5 years. But now we are selling the house. We hooked up spa and now topside controllers are finicky. Sometimes the pumps work, sometimes don't. I can't find anything on the internet on replacing Atera Spa controller. Just looking for advice from anyone who replaced their controller. My new swim spa was delivered on Monday and is now filled, warm and running. It took 8 weeks to build but was here in the promised time. The crane over my house was scary but the guys knew what they were doing and got it in place quickly and without incident. It is a beautiful addition to my yard, the kids love it and I am looking forward to getting in shape. The best thing about the whole process was the people there. They were very patient with my many visits and long shopping process. I actually started looking about six months before I purchased my swim spa. They took lots of time with me and answered all of my questions it was nice that they weren't pushy and impatient with me. Overall positive experience and I would recommend talking to them before buying a tub. read more

We purchased 5 person 69 jet AnyTemp Spa. It has been operational for about 6 weeks. Savannah has been great; start to finish of the process. Dallas has just starting hitting 100 F, so We set it to 83F and put a patio umbrella over it to give the Spa a break with cooling. We love it! We have a Bluetooth transmitter on the TV tied to wireless waterproof JBL Charge 3 speaker (in photo). Only way to watch TV! Can't wait for Football in the Fall. We are thinking about installing Equinox louvers over spa in the spring; same as what we have over the patio. Another great product. We have been in Dallas 5 yrs, overhauled and extended our patio with the Spa this Spring and use it more than neighbors that have standard pools. read more

We too have been told it's a "power issue" with no valid explanation. We also spent substantially more for a "specialized chip" to make it colder. It never got down to temp. Also, we had our 1st tub installed by an Atera recommended electrician. This tub was up to Atera "specifications". Even then the tub never got down to the Atera claimed 56° without spending money to add ice. This defeats the purpose of what we paid for. We have since purchased a more reputable brand that literally plugs into a 120V standard outlet- no issues heating or cooling. The new brand we purchase also self regulates and sanitizes- again, all on a standard 120v outlet. How is it that this new brand we pitched from able to perform with no issues on a 120v outlet? And we had to pay additionally to hardwire the Atera spa- which just adds insult to injury. It is clear based on reviews and other feedback from people we know that also purchased from Atera that they use the "power issue" to cover up the lack of quality in their product. You can purchase other products that perform and plug into a 120v home outlet. Do your research- you get what you pay for. The owner has now told us they will not have anyone come to help us. Because he was upset when we pointed out These facts. If you stand behind your product then you'd do everything you can to help your customers. We've purchased 2 tubs and paid additional money for the chiller (beware of this upsale as it never gets below 60° & Atera claims 56). We've spent close to 40k in these 2 tubs. We have had our spa for 8 years, we were just in their store last week buying supplies and they told us about getting a new cover. We discussed at length the electrical problems many of their customers are having since my husband is an electrician. If you buy a spa get a licensed electrician!! You will save yourself all of these problems, my husband fixes electrical every day that was done by the lowest bidder! The wrong wiring on a hot tub will mess it up every time. Paid cash for a chiller equipped tub with four pumps. SIX MONTHS LATER we recieved the tub that wasn't even close to what we ordered, was the wrong color, mass damage and only a three pump system. Waiting for the correct panels and cover, we used it for a couple of months and when we needed the chiller it kept overheating and popping the breaker. Another pertinent fact is that their ad is all BS. The phone number is forwarded to Tennessee and the tub thrown together in Florida. A Mr. Graham Montgomery took my wife's call from there and when she told him she wanted their tub because it was a family business and built locally. His failure to correct her about the tub and certainly immoral, if not illegal. We are currently waiting for a response from the state attorney general before we proceed. After we paid in full, Atera sold to LPI. Nine months later we received the spa missing over $2,000 in parts including filters, cover, cover lifts and chemicals. No installation or operators manuals provided so we are on the hook to find a spa service that can figure out how to install and operate. Arizona Attorney General is assisting us but we may need to file legal action to get refund for missing parts. read more

We bought the swim spa 3 years ago. While its fun when its working, our electric bill has gone through the roof. we used to pay $196 a month and its been $322. On their website it says your electric bill will go up $50 more per month. I wish I could sell it to someone and get it out of my yard. very expensive product read more

Our swim spa took over a month longer than the 8 weeks promised but now that we have it we are very happy. Cooling feature is wonderful for Phoenix heat. Also love that we do not need to use chlorine and it stays nice and clear. Our hot tub was delivered right away and we use it every day as well as the swim spa, nice to have it warmer and the swim spa cooler. We needed to stay on top of Josh to get delivery accomplished but he was always very pleasant when we dealt with him. read more

We purchased a swim spa in May of 2017. It was delivered in August 2017. It has been, by far, the worst purchasing experience we have ever had. The company has amazing LACK of communication skills. We knew that delivery was approximately 12 weeks from purchase, but as we approached that time frame we had no communication from them with regard to progress or anticipated delivery. If we wanted a status update, we had to stop into the store and even then the sales staff often could not provide information without following up with us later. We rarely got a returned phone call and often our emails went unanswered. The hot tub side of the unit failed in the first 24 hours of operation. After multiple emails, phone calls, videos showing the weird behaviors, and a couple of visits by their technician, we were told that we had a power supply problem from our point of service to the unit. The owner was at our home twice and both times, he reiterated, WITHOUT ANY DATA PROOF, that it was definitely a power problem based on his experience. So... we invested multiple hours and expense to obtain power data to verify his claim. After obtaining power data, devised with the help of the APS power company, we could find no indication that our power supply was faulty. APS monitored our home for two weeks and also verified that we HAVE NO POWER ISSUES. After three months of being told that it was OUR power problem, and that Atera would continue giving us good customer service once we solved OUR power problem, we gave up dealing with the owners of Atera Spas. We ripped out ALL the wiring on BOTH sides of the unit, replaced the control units and top side controllers and replaced about 30% of the plumbing. We found not less than FIVE poorly constructed wire splices between our power supply and their controllers. We also found that the controllers are not UL Certified and are poorly constructed; i.e. the fuses are hard wired into the boxes. In the rebuild, we also discovered that the hot tub pump was faulty - likely a high temp sensor problem that was one of the issues from day one. After replacing all the wiring, 30% of the plumbing, the control units and the top side controllers, we can now use the units, the top side controller can be read in direct sunlight (unlike Atera's) and we can swim with balanced water flow rather than having to swim at a diagonal in the unit that was caused by plumbing that created an unbalanced water flow. It has taken us three months to complete our rebuild. If you want to spend a minimum of $3-5K in addition to the cost of the unit, to rebuild the unit and correct poor workmanship and parts, feel free to consider a purchase from Atera. However; based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company or their products. read more

If you are thinking about purchasing an Atera Spa, DONT DO IT! My spa was purchased there 3 years ago. In November, one of the pumps came on unexpectedly when the cover was down. I couldn't get it to turn off without throwing the breaker. I called and called to arrange a service call, leaving numerous messages, none of which were returned. After 2 months, I found someone else to come and check it out. He was prepared to repair it, and called Atera many many times to purchase the components necessary to repair it, leaving messages every time. None of the calls were returned. Eventually, he called and they actually answered the phone. He told them what parts he needed and they wanted to know who the customer was. He declined to say and they refused to supply the parts because they were proprietary and only they could install them. He said the customer has been trying for 4 months to get you to return his calls and come out and fix it. I finally decided to have the proprietary controller and heater replaced with generic products and in a matter our hours, the spa was up and running. I would NEVER do business with this company ever again. read more

First off, I was very impressed with their Glendale showroom. I thought is was very accommodating to actually throw a swimsuit on and try out one of their spas. I'm going to add this two years later...we had some problems with our spa not heating. I called Josh and we got it worked out ASAP. Nathan came out and was professional, thorough, and just wonderful. Our hot tub is back working and as good as new. Look...I don't recommend businesses to anyone usually. I CAN most certainly and comfortably recommend these guys to you. They are absolutely the BEST! I upgraded my ranking from four to five stars after dealing with them in a service capacity. There is a reason why we went with family owned...it's because you get to deal with the family. This hot tub is a piece of crap!... the equipment that only Atera spas can get is terrible. The customer service was awful. We purchased our 6 person any temp duel recliner hot tub in 2008. Our first indication that Josh and Chuck were a bunch of douche bags was when they were arguing with me (6 months pregnant) about their faulty part. we had the hot tub 2 years. We were having problems with something with the flow switch was making control board to chatter causing the relay to burn out. Of course this was our problem not their product. Warranty was for 2 years we were at the 2 year mark. They were refusing to pay because of a loop hole. So we went down to the store we had called channel 3 and 5 and where going to blast them on tv news. I had all ready blasted them on Facebook. So of course they paid for it. Again though we where in the store for 3 hours arguing with them. It was terrible we should have gotten rid of the tub then. So since then it's been nothing but a headache with this company. I absolutely hate dealing with them. We have had other hot tub repair people come look at it and comment about what a,pain it is to deal with atera spas and atera the company. First of all their parts for this hot tub come from Canada so it takes forever to get anything done. It's a shame because the cooling hot tub idea living in Phoenix is the best when it worked but this hot tub has been broken more then it has actually worked. Every time something has gone wrong it took them a week to get somebody out and it was never their fault. We just replaced the whole control board a year ago and it is now broken again. Uuummmm..... yeah we aren't even dealing with atera we are just craneing that piece of sh%$ over the wall and going to use it for target practice. It will be 2 000.00 to fix. Excellent experience overall. We looked at many swim spa options and Atera's combination of product, price and functionality was the best. When we visited the showroom, Josh did a great job explaining their product and how it differed from the competition. We liked the fact we could swim year-round with the hot/cold option and what won us over was that no chlorine was needed to keep the swim spa clean. This was a significant issue for us since my wife has psoriasis and chlorine often irritates her skin. After about a 10-week wait for the swim span to be manufactured, we received the call that it was ready. The scheduled delivery date was postponed once because a crane driver was not available and we had a small issue about orientation of the swim spa in our yard but those were resolved quickly and we have been enjoying the swim spa for over six months. It has worked as advertised and we are very happy with our purchase. read more

Poor customer service, confusing fine print... We purchased our spa from Atera nearly two years ago. The customer service during the purchasing of the spa was great, of course. The main selling point of the Atera Spa is the chiller option. Living in Phoenix, AZ, this is a fantastic option - if it works. Unfortunately, we have never been able to get ours to function properly. Our spa was delivered at the end of October 2011 and was wonderful all the winter. As the temperature started to rise, we started to lower the temperature of the spa. The chiller ran and ran and ran and never cooled the spa. We contacted Atera and were informed it was because the spa was sitting in the afternoon sun. So, this past winter, we covered our entire patio so the spa would be in full shade. Problem solved? Not at all. Once again, this summer the spa still will not get below 93-95 degrees (so much for the promised 30 degrees temperature split from ambient). Again, we contacted Atera and were told to make sure the middle filter was clean...check - gets cleaned every week; then make sure the evaporative coil is clear of debris...check; then make sure the cover isn't loose...check. Still no cool water. Finally (after I showed up in person in the showroom so they couldn't ignore me) they sent a service technician who knew nothing about the spa and in fact started asking us questions about how it should operate. My husband actually ended up finding the chiller plug that was completely burned, indicating a bigger electrical problem, possibly in the compressor. He contacted the owner of the company - again - who, over a week later, sent a different employee out to inspect the spa. He replaced the circulation pump and the heater and then reached the conclusion that the problem was our fault and that our warranty was now void due to bad water maintenance??? He stated we were using too many of the water sanitizing drops (Clear Choice) they recommend and that they had clogged the system. We were using the drops how we were instructed to use them and the water in the spa is clear and not giving us any of the 'warning' signs of overuse that are listed in the owner's manual. On top of that, according to the owner's manual, the spa itself is supposed to give an error message if water flow is restricted so you can shut it off before is does any damage. Never received that error message. I could see the warranty being voided if the technician showed up and the water was green and growing algae, but clear?!?! Needless to say I have once again read everything the owner's manual has to say regarding water maintenance and the limited warranty exclusions and have reached the conclusion that Atera has built in some convenient loopholes to get out of warranty service. The water maintenance instructions are vague at best - basically putting the owner in the position of having to just 'play' with the dosing amount until it seems correct and hope it doesn't clog the lines in the meantime and void your warranty. As a business owner, I understand that warranty work cuts into your profits, but bad word of mouth cuts into your profits even more. read more

I had the spa for 1 1/2 yrs...So many Problems with electric , change the computer The drops that you use in the water never the right amount have flakes in spa all the time... They are nice until you pay them.. After that you don't count !!! Now my spa licks water and I call them and this guy tells me to fix it my self because other wise they have to charge me $150 just to come to my house... I left messages with the guy who fixes them no call back and also talked to them 4 times ...nothing has change Hey someone will call you and you have to pay ahead of time..and that was 4 weeks ago .They don't give a shh....t,,,,Don't buy from them !!!!!!!! very expensive it does not worth the money.. Terrible customer service. Subpar hot tub. Maintenace calls are a nightmare. It took me two weeks and six calls to finally get someone out to the house. After the maintenance tech found the problem, it was up to me to order the part. God forbid if the office actually called to check up on the call or to confirm any parts that are needed. When I bought the spa Atera had all 5 star reviews. Now I see more accurate reviews. What a piece of junk! I gave up arguing with them as nothing is ever the problem with them or the equipment. You have to push the control panel buttons until you either get lucky or you just give up. I will throw the piece of crap out and get another brand as soon as I can afford the new one. Do NOT buy anything from this place. I bought the spa and it was delivered with a destroyed cover. Their initial response was "not our fault," you bought it when it left the factory. After much arguing, they agreed to send a new cover but insisted that the warranty on the acrylic was now void because it didn't have a cover for a few weeks (I am not kidding). Then we had a problem with the wiring. Without ever looking at the dedicated breaker and line, they insisted that my electrician (fully licensed) had not wired the outlet properly and that my warranty was void. I had another electrician come and look at the wiring and he said everything was done correctly. However, he did inform me that the hot tub appeared to use "cut all corners construction" and you should really get a good hot tub. The last two years have been filled with problems (thermostat, heater, pumps etc). Do your self a favor and avoid these people. The product is poor and the people/service are horrible. read more

I purchased my Atera spa 3 years ago and have loved every minute of having it in our backyard!! We were originally sold by the family owned and operated aspect as we run a family business as well. It was also great to discover that the company focuses on an American-made and environmentally-friendly product. However, living in Phoenix means one thing - HOT! We were thrilled with the fact that we could add a chiller option to our spa so that we can use it all year. Our old spa would get up to 107-109° in the summer and was far too hot (and dangerous) to spend any time in. With our Atera spa, we can keep it at the exact temperature we want even in the blistering AZ summer! My sister and 2-year-old nephew were here visiting last week, so we turned the temperature down to 80° so that my nephew could swim - he LOVED having his own 'personal pool' and my sister and I loved that we could enjoy a nice massage while he played. :) She is moving back here in February and asked for the contact info so they could look into purchasing one for their new place! Another huge plus is the Clear Choice water treatment system that is used instead of harsh chemicals. I was having such a fit keeping the chemicals balanced in our old spa and was noticing some health problems that I thought could be attributed to it. Sure enough, no problems at all once we got our Atera spa with the Clear Choice! Super easy to maintain and is done by use - great for when we go on vacation because we don't have to worry about coming home to a green spa!! We have had one instance where we had to call for service (I let our two dogs in and we ended up with a VERY clogged filter that tripped the system :/ ), and they had a technician out two days later who had it fixed in about 15 minutes. My husband and I enjoy relaxing in our spa almost every evening before we go to bed and we sleep so much better afterward! Thank you for a wonderful product!!! read more

We purchased an AnyTemp Swim Spa with delivery in July of 2016 and couldn't be any happier with the service or product. First, the customer service was by far above the rest. Josh spent an unbelievable amount of time coordinating efforts to ensure we obtained the backyard we envisioned. After the spa was delivered, we experienced a problem with system circulation and Chuck personally walked us through steps to resolve the problem over the holiday weekend. In fact, if we weren't able to fix it via telephone he was going to send out his son to ensure our spa functioned properly. Now that is true customer service! As far as the spa itself, if functions perfectly and the AnyTemp addition has been wonderful during these hot Summer months in Arizona. My biggest concern was the unknown when it came to the electric bill; however, we haven't noticed even a slight increase. Overall, I would highly recommend this company and product. read more

I have had the top of the line swim spa for about nine months and I really love it. I was a little concerned at first about the swim feature until I was able to dial it in. The stream was too forceful even on the lowest setting until I figured out how to divert the water from the center more outward to the sides. That also helps me stay centered when swimming so it doesn't push me into the sides as much. Part of the workout is staying centered in the stream. The chill feature is wonderful in the summertime and in the winter, I just keep it hot all the time and only open the spa side of the cover when we want to use it as a hot tub. It is surprisingly inexpensive to operate. I also have had great success with the Choice water treatment. I like that I don't smell of chlorine after using it. I had a couple of issues with the operation and they were handled professionally and promptly. read more

I have been dealing with Chuck for over 10 years now. We got our first tub in 2005 and have love it. We love the tub so much when we moved and bought a new house one of the first places I needed to go was to get another tub. Chuck has been in the business for decades and really educated me on all the new things in hot tubs. There chiller feature is great here in the AZ summers. I can now have a cool place to soak. We have been very happy with our spa. It is the VS7 and, although it may be built for 7, we use it just for the two of us and it's been fabulous. It arrived here in Connecticut just after Christmas 2015 and the "hot" tub was great during our snow and other chilly weather. Now that it's summer and hot (for CT standards) we are enjoying the "cool" tub at water temp of 85 degrees. It's been perfect for cooling off after a long hot day. Our first "spa" - and the investment was definitely worth it for us - a bit more in electric costs per month, but the benefits outweigh that. The "clean water" system is wonderful....no chemicals, no bother, just some trial and error to get the best dosage for our usage. Thank you Chuck and Josh - we love it! read more

I had placed an advertisement last October as a senior disabled veteran with spinal nerve damage that needed a used hot tub spa donated for physical therapy in my new home. I expected a fix-up spa or perhaps one that I could obtain at cost. Instead I received an email from Atera Spas. They were about to retrieve a large spa from a homeowner that no longer needed it and instead of selling it the owner had agreed to donate it to me if I would split the cost of delivery. As with most spas kept outdoors in the Arizona sun, the wooden sides would need to be replaced. I agreed to pay half the delivery cost and took delivery a few days later. To my surprise, not only was the spa itself in super condition, Atera donated some chemicals and a slightly used cover. I have since had new sides installed and used it daily since arrival. The quick response and courtesy shown me by the Atera staff was much appreciated and the extra effort expended to donate the spa was more than I had expected. read more

AVOID this place. They have no service department. Avoid these liars. My tub had a faulty pump due to a manufacturing defect. Chuck came by and told me the warranty was void because the GFCI was in the main breaker panel and not the sub panel. He seemed very happy to be off the hook. This is up to code and would have no effect on the pump. The. Most disappointing thing was his delight in my misery. He told me a new pump costs $450 but he would sell me one for $230 ( this is what I could buy for online) plus $150 for installation. I gave them my debit card info. Their "service" dept. is comprised of one person who is Chucks son. He told me there was nothing wrong with pump just. Change the GFCI to the sub panel and he would not charge me for the call. I hired an electrician to move GFCI. STILL NOT WORKING. Nathan came by put pliars on pump shaft and pump worked. For about three days. They charged me $300 for service calls; refused to return my calls for six months. I took the pump to Perry's pool pump. They replaced the winding switch, also known as centifigal switch at no charge. Pump now works. They are refusing to discuss returning any of the $300 for service calls that did not fix the problem which should have been under warranty. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO HOME DEPT,LOWES ,COSTCO OR SAMS. These guys will tell you anything. The location of the GFCI will not affect the pump. They lied to me about the delivery date twice. They lied about everything. They are way overpriced for the quality of product. If you price one they will try to gouge you. I got them to come down $2000. They told me they would call when my tub was being constructed so i could see the frame and plumbing. They never called or returned my calls. They missed the delvery date and when i called Josh said he didnt know anything about it. They missed the second delivery date. Huge $8300 mistake to deal with these liars. read more
